I may put a tan deck on the next ship lol which i loosely assembled a hull. Plans are to be a merchant vessel for now... Have to have something to hunt. As far as winding down... Ive been spending alot of time winding lately... I built my own crude cord winder and am making quite literally my own rigging... After shes strung I'll move on to sails... And lastly crew

The detailing on the chain holes it appears to be the frame for a window with the 2x1 slope in front is what I was wondering about

My original idea was a captain that was on a blood hunt so I thought why not make it look something straight from hell... I mean if an all black ship works why not a bloody one. As i built i took ideas from different parts of builds i seen on here... Im sure you can recognize some of yours lol. After all imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

I actually find the red quite striking on this ship but would be curious what it would look like on white... You would loose that prefab rear though. This is a quality build and it is a ship i would gladly purchase. You have my support sir. I do enjoy the curve of the rigging as well I am curious how you accomplished the inverted brown

It would be awesome if you made it sorta in the national treasure movie style where you went through the catacombs to get to the secret subbasement hideout lol... Im not as familiar with architecture from this period as I am with later periods but i know it would be cool.

One of my parts boxes came in... Still waiting on my red hulls though... But i got the detail parts swapped out. I forgot to snap a picture but the doors are now black instead of brown. I ultimately decided to go with black gun port covers instead of red after reading more about pirate techniques used. And this would make her appear to be lightly armed from a distance. As opposed to the other practice employed by merchant's of painting on fake gun ports. You might notice I've started adding the dead eyes on the mizzen. So I have changed the masts a little (using the short boom as previously discussed) Apparently it was common practice to fly no colors or another ships colors to lure you close before hoisting the Rodger The rear of the ship has changed slightly... Im still needing to change the window frames I'm also playing around with lanterns off the masts as I've seen in some pictures so this is first draft. You can notice the bell in this picture as well. So hopefully the next update will have the red hull and rigging done... It is very time consuming lacing the dead eyes. I've also started another ship to take a break from rigging and waiting on parts. However shes not worthy of pictures yet... I started to use the same greenhair method as i did on this ship then decided I would try the sebus one piece side method... But thats for its own thread ... Not sure if I'll do a Wip on her though.

Does the whole warf have a sub structure then or just certain elements... Even a simulated tunnel would be cool

Do you have the brewhouse started? Will this have a german feel? The tavern is it attached or part of the brothel... Or perhaps a link to pictures would work lol.

Long Term Sail Storage (advice, tips, and tricks?)
Roadmonkeytj replied to Lord Valgor's topic in LEGO Pirates
Even though you came to a conclusion in some time ago I can say this for the Lego brand sails from the 90s mine were stored in open Rubbermaid drawers for over 15 years untouched in a temp controlled spare room... They then made a journey in a U-Haul trailer and spent another year in a non temp controlled but dry shed. I simply took them out of the bins and put them on the ship after rebuilding it earlier this year... Now mind you they could use a good ironing but they did not mold nor tarnish in the 16 years of storage without any sort of for lack of a better word... Care. Anything to keep them flat should do the trick... If moisture is an issue silica would help your ziplock but only if you seal it. -
So figured I'd give a short update... Removed all prior rigging and reworked the sides of the hull to add these still early in production stages.... Major shout out to Kurigan for all the help thus far Just a teaser for now but anyone that's seen his ships know exactly what they are I will say this I'm making my own rope to get these done.

Imperial Guards: Bluecoat and redcoat uniforms
Roadmonkeytj replied to Dreamweb's topic in LEGO Pirates
At the risk of being assaulted about the head and ears I believe this is the proper place for my two bits albeit raising the dead. As I wasn't aware of this forum when the original conversation took place. My understanding of the blue coat was as originally released the governors ship sea Hawk which quickly became the clipper. I have a lot of the supporting sets and it was my belief the this was a governors personal army and their sole mission was to stop the pirates and keep the orders of the governors land. Then later as the pirates grew in force the red coats were sent as reinforcement and replaced the governor as the commander as he couldn't fulfill his mission. The Spaniards (the figures in the metal bucket caps) I feel came too late in the era but the sets were based more on the search for gold ... Aztec gold hence the influence of the islanders To me the red and blue were on the same side representative of old world and new. The Spanish had their own conquests and the pirate nation grew the whole period representative of the golden age. All this is highly speculative but it is the way it made sense to me. If the red and blue were different country's then the blue would have coexisted with red not been replaced. That's my theory because I have two versions of the lagoon lock up one with blue and one red both with the common goal of locking up pirates Nations: Blue - new world settlement Later Red - takes over and fortifies new settlement Spanish in other lands in same era Islanders the original inhabitants Pirate nation Loosely based on history largely based on fantasy -
Sadly as much as I appreciate the frigate tutorial as its majorly influenced my own build I have to agree the gentle curve offers a thing of elegance and beauty... To me it's two beautiful ships but one does stand out as more elegant I too agree I loved the red... The tan fits more in your fleet. Cousarmy0001 - are your plates possiblely warped ... I've experienced this on my build swap with a new plate and it's solved

Can anybody point me to a hopefully tutorial or a good link to making these ... I've seen it done on alot of older posts and I really like the look and want to include this block and tackle on my ship ... He posted pictures of his ship Raven in 2012 so I didn't want to post in such an old thread but pulled part of it out. He mentions his are working ... I would love to know how to tie these to make them work. <quote> Connecting the shrouds to the chains are functional dead eyes made from car wheels. They are a little tedious to string but the end result is fantastic. First as Hawk and now as Raven, this project was started as an experiment to solve a lot of the problem I ran into on Snake, such as tension and counter tension in the rigging. Using these car wheel dead eyes has proven to work remarkable well. Using a pair of tweezers I was able to snug up the shrouds without any trouble </quote>

[Lay-Out - BELUG] Pirates at Brickmania Antwerp 2017

I love seeing animation in displays... Ever since I seen a train layout where parts if the scenery moved as well as the train I was in love... Movement draws the eye I think some clever plate work and some programming with the rc functions and a DIY board and you could simulate a ship berthing put the lines on a winch with a motor joined and that could be amazing on a loop. For yours the only wish I have is perhaps some blue to simulate the wake to hide the wheels. More track would be impressive to make ships patrol. Perhaps a modular design would help in setup. Good work. -

If you want to box up any miss match parts I'll gladly pay for shipping... I have a use if your throwing them out... But love the ship the details all over and the sails... Did you give them a tea treatment or no also was the flag an iron transfer or did you just use the iron on magic tack is what it's called here to glue the paper to the canvas I'm actually jealous that y'all live so close that you can collaborate... Wish I had that opportunity -
I feel like this is one of your better builds... Noticed definite changes in your ships

Advice on how to make a proper Lego anchor( Discussion)
Roadmonkeytj replied to Capitaine Aragon's topic in Pirate MOCs
Are you looking to be historical or just to have fun... I've used chain on my build but it's a larger ship ... What he's suggesting is large ships and later ships used chain... Rope is easy to roll up on the propeller with some additions you can make it look more like a typical capstan... I'm fortunate enough to have prefab anchors but I've seen the approach you used and bar stock used well also seen the large claws used -
The Snot approach works nice on this gives it a decent shape. Fortifications or a oversized crew for boarding will be needed

[Lay-Out - BELUG] Pirates at Brickmania Antwerp 2017
Roadmonkeytj replied to Maxim I's topic in Pirate MOCs
There is so much to look at the pictures in sure did it no justice... The track ship is simply fantastic.... Was it actually the old 12v Lego system or just the trackage with rc components? -
Thanks it means alot hearing good things... I've tried to implement some of the techniques I've seen on here with my own twist and the bricks I currently have... It's been almost 10 years since I've built anything like this. But alas here are some more changes... Black skeletons... Don't know if I like them on the stern but I do on the other parts of the ship there's six total And so it has begun ... Made the dive and started stringing up the masts Picked up some hemp string and it's not as great as Lego string I feel like it looks the part since many a ship had hemp rope Did have to change up the third mast . . . Had it rigged and it just didn't look right so it will be getting a large spanker to remedy the hole And yes it will have rat lines I believe is the correct term however I tied... Yes tied two and now fully understand why nobody likes them lol I originally tried greenhairs one continuous string tutorial but after ripping the mast down and the side walls off too many times to count I had no other choice but to tie each line separately. So far I'm liking it accept for the acute carpel tunnel lol I'm still waiting on a slow boat from Deutchland for some updates to come and a few color changes... But that's another post
