So I have modified the steering to remove the bump steer. To make it fit with the rim I had to use some un Lego like techniques. and rotate the track rods 90 degrees. I have given a lot of rough treatment but it survives.
-
NOOOOOOOO !!! I still have nightmares about those things I remember all the Lego instructions which had how to build a tool to remove them.
-
I thought about it and will probably add them as a alternative in the instructions but as the parts haven't been in production for 20+ years i wanted to make a version that some who doesn't have the 8865 can experience what it was like.
-
I though about using them but the original uses double wishbones so felt that this should have the same. The original also has a much longer arms on the hub which also give better clearance for the front shocks. My original design extended the hubs and made them more parallel but these rub on the chosen tiers it's OK if you use a larger rim but there not in white and more of a road tread.

I have made a stud less version of the classic 8865 Test Car Instructions can now be downloaded free here I would like some feedback and your opinions. I have tried to keep as many features from the original as possible including the clunky 3 speed gear box. The parts I'm least sure on is the engine also the front grill I have only used parts which have been produced by Lego in those colours which limits some design choices. I would love to have 63869 in red seeing as the Lamborghini got some in lime hoping there may be some in the new Ferrari. The front wishbones are only in grey now and you cant place the shocks in the same place so it now has a more positive rake. The original had more off road tiers and there rims are hard to get in white but it looked closer to the original than the the new ones for the current 1:8 scale cars. Some of the Blue parts are very expensive so i don't know if i should include some alternative colour schemes or can AFOLs figure it out themselves . (i don't have all the needed colour parts to build it but i substituted some of the blue for dark grey whilst working on it) One thing i have noticed building it from new beams compared to my original its a lot lighter but has more flex in the chassis the suspension is still light enough that its not to much of an issue. Here are some close ups of the engine

@Ngoc NguyenYou sir are a gentleman -
I would assume they would still be paying Bell the licence fee as that will have already been negotiated. Renaming the set they will lose any tie up marketing and may have to pay Bell more if part of the licence cost was brand advertising for Bell. Stopping the whole set would be a much bigger financial hit and they will still have all the costs and no sales plus more cost if they have to dispose of the set's they have already made.

So with it only 2 weeks form it's original release Lego must be sitting on a large stockpile and some must have went to stores that's a lot of money even for Lego to have tied up. They can't just dump all that plastic. a recall will be even more expensive even if they can get that info to all stores in a week. I think at best they could drop the licence name and just call it a generic rescue plane as the before with the 42066 they got away with that as it's not a named machine.
-
Seems to have been dropped from the Lego site so I think we can say that this will not be coming out anytime soon which is a big shame as it seemed the best set in the 2H for new parts / value.

Rebrickable has a lot to offer but sports cars seem to be the most popular.

Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Cardboy replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I hope that the powered up remote 88010 works with the new bell battery box as would seem crazy that they would use different internal hardware from the powered up hub as there essentiality same but with a stud / stud-less deigns. -
Technic 2020 Set Discussion
Cardboy replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think Lego are making more of a push of Technic in the US as it's been weaker there than Europe. I think that's the reason we got Dom's charger in Technic not as a creator as an avenue to bring fans of the film to Technic. Also a lot more American licenced sets the Corvette, Mac and now Bell. -
I did build in irl just my photo skills are worse then the CG render also I don't have all the right colours so it's using Blue seats atm. Very nice i was looking at the original 8845 and yes it starts grey then black so you are correct but i quite like the black to finish on the grill
-
yeah that's a bit of a problem the original used plates which were 1/3 high and now we have beams that are 1/2 high you can add another but then it's a bit to high at the front.
-
Thanks for that I had missed that they had rubber colours now i have to re-render all my other models as they also have shiny tyres I did this one quickly.
-
As the 8845 was my first ever Technic model i decided to give it a redesign to modern stud less design. I have tried to keep it as much like the original as possible. This was awkward for the steering as that is 10 studs wide and steering for Technic is all odd, 7 long racks or limited like on the Corvett 42093 and the Race Kart 42048. The wheels are a bit oversized but i don't think Lego do anything closer. and the rear cargo area is a bit gappy. Hope you like it You can get some free instructions here

42107 - Ducati Panigale V4R
Cardboy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not for this but for future applications. The previous damper just uses a simple rubbed collar to create friction on the return which could have easily been added to it with minimal cost. I think the original damper was discontinued for two reasons they were bulky and the first version for the Super Street all broke as the rubber they used was not very good and so they had to replace them. Normal Lego practice the chain is always a bit saggy you can remove a link but then that will put a bit more stress on it so they always play safe, and it's easier to connect if you don't have much dexterity. -

I now have the set what are peoples thoughts on the front shocks? They seem like there just covered springs and no dampening effect winch I find a little disappointing. -
