  1. Yes - the track is the same as that of the RC/PF systems - what's currently available. It won't run an electrical current, but it does connect to 9V track and is the same size/dimensions.
  2. I'm glad you guys like this topic. Great thought on the subject. I do the same thing. It's actually neat to see. Lots of diversity in that picture, but the construction bridge stands out for me. That one comes from Tater-Tots on FlickR. It's part of his Holiday Mountain. It is a nice one! Love the idea of a smaller miners tunnel. Maybe something with hinges that opens up. I've seen an old Thomas toy like this - pretty neat. They have Duplo though - and Duplo makes a Train Tunnel. Now the AFOL need one. There's nothing wrong with that. Please share a picture. It's always interesting to see LEGO blended with "life-like" landscaping, especially in LEGO Train displays. I started building a very small tunnel for my Train Town a few night ago. It's nothing fancy; in fact it looks like the small Duplo Tunnel, but it's a tunnel, and it's partially on a curve. I'll share a picture soon.
  3. They seem to be more popular during the Christmas season. The problem; I think, is the price point. When I see LEGO Train sets on the shelf, usually there are just a couple, and they seem to be on the shelf for a long time. In fact, many times the boxes get beat up before the toy store sells them. It will be interesting to see how the Toy Story train sells with the set being tied to a license, and maybe more appealing to the kids. I think we will definitely see all the trains sets in the U.S. and in Europe. City is just too popular right now. It's just a matter of when, but I'm optimistic for this summer.
  4. Yes Tim, I tend to agree with you. Based on the discussion at hand, it sounds like most prefer a large layout. I like the idea of a vertical layout with a high level of detail as well. Thanks Dave. It's great to see you part of the discussion. I bet you've got an awesome layout! I've been working on adding additional landscaping to my Train Town 6 (adding additional trees/greenery and a stream to the desert section). I would love to add a 2nd layer similar to the western layout in the Pizza Display image.
  5. Thanks for sharing the link ML. It's definitely a much better quality picture. Oh, and welcome to Train Tech. Please share some information about your LEGO train interest in the registry.
  6. (extends hand to Staszek) Welcome Staszek. I've seen many outstanding creations from the Poland LUG over the last several years. I look forward to seeing your layout.
  7. Today on Train Tech, I'd like to bring up the topic of LEGO Train Tunnels. Why has LEGO never offered a stand-alone train tunnel set? Is a train tunnel too layout specific requiring extensive building and customization? Would a small train tunnel set similar to that of the Duplo tunnel be ideal for one wanting a tunnel on their tabletop layout? or is a good train tunnel just too large for LEGO? Have you tried building a train tunnel? If so, share your thoughts and building tips.
  8. Thanks Johan. Here's some additional images: I've since raised the bridge to three studs high and have the entire loop of track climbing from the rear to the high point of the bridge. A small forest to the left adds some green and interesting landscaping: To the right is the small desert with Mexican Church: The entire layout shot at an angle: This is still a work in process as I'd like to add some additional landscaping. More to come.
  9. Nice site Legostein. I like the neat and organized look, and enjoy looking at your various models.
  10. Are you sure that's the same piece? They look different, more thin.
  11. Hi All: Last night, I got busy and started dusting my Train Town. As I did so, I quickly found my modulars and road plates rearranged. I thought, what the hay - I'm going to change things up a bit. With the addition of a few new blue baseplates, I redid the town completely. I've been wanting to add a water element and bridge for some time, finally making it happen in the late hours of last night with Pandora playing in the background. While the track is only set one brick high, it does provide the needed clearance for the bridge. Yes, I would have liked to make the bridge taller and raise up the main town/modular section, but such things take some work. In fact, I initially tried doing so with a few books, but thought, this is too much work - maybe Train Town 7 will incorporate the concept. With the addition of water, I've added the cargo pier and crane (from 7994 City Harbour), as well as a small section of desert - still need to add some desert bushes and rattlesnakes. The building you see in the desert is my last standing Mexican Village structure, a Mexican Church (awaiting the new Mexican with Sombrero minifig). One of the challenging things is that the Modulars take so much space on your layout, and they dwarf all other structures. I had to loose my Train Station, and Town Plan Cinema . In any case, I like the water, cargo crane, and desert section. This time, LEGOs RC Cargo Train Deluxe is running on the track. I'll share some additional pictures soon.
  12. Very nice Stefan. Love the theme/movie, and you've done a fine job recreating Jack in LEGO. I think this will be front-paged!
  13. Stefan creates a frightfully fun vignette of Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas:
  14. New City set or another fantastic creation by Brick Town Talk? You can decide over some ice cream.
  15. Why don't you share your review on Eurobricks, in English- more people could appreciate it.
  16. You bet - a very economical way to travel in LEGO City. Trains #1, but I'm also a bit partial to helicopters as well as ships (especially the floating kind). I also like smaller airplanes (like seaplanes) for a nostalgia factor. Thanks for asking.
  17. Sorry guys - I didn't see Darth Legolas' initial post. I think I've set things right.
  18. Thanks to EB member and Harry Potter fan Darth Legolas for sharing images of the new 2010 Harry Potter sets from Figures.com. Train fans are also discussing 4841 Hogwarts Express inside Train Tech, thanks to SuperChris. And special thanks to Figures.com for sharing these early Toy Fair images with the LEGO community via their web site.
  19. Great find Darth Legolas! Front-paged news!
  20. Very nice Legostein. As a huge fan of the 70s/80s Battlestar Galactica, I love seeing a LEGO version of the Cylon Raider, and your details are quite nice. That's a very clever use of the red ruby pieces. I hope you don't mind, but I've taken some photo editing liberty and placed this image on the front page. Nice!
