Shmelt's Birthday! I almost missed the party, but I clicked the umbrella cake. It was like taking the red pill... Happy Birthday Svelte! Hope you had a great one. For some reason, I pictured you a lot different than your photo.

LEGO 7597 Western Train Chase ~$79.99 USD / $109.99 CAD Revised image from www.wikia.com link to sneak-peek image on Brickshelf The new 2010 Toy Story train is being discussed in the Toy Story Discussion thread, found in the Licensed Forum, but I think it deserves its own discussion among Train fans right here in Train Tech. Caveat: let's focus on the train rather than the Toy Story figures and any story relating to the movie. That way, we keep the discussion on the train design, its pieces, and any technical aspects. I'll start by saying that I love the new cow catcher piece. That looks like a very useful part for train MOCs. In addition, I think the picture may be elongating the overall height of the train, but the wagons look like they may be a two studs short compared to the classic 16-stud train car length. I do like the colors of the passenger car, which provides a nice idea for a longer coach.

One of the longest LEGO train cars that I've seen, and very much like the real-life version. Looking at this makes me want to extend my Wild West Pullman coach. Great job Sergio! You've really been sharing some fantastic creations lately.

Building a display for the Emerald Night

Yes- many train fans seem to be doing something along this line. This is what I was getting at: Most of my track is 9V which looks even better with the metal rails. -
Thanks - that's not a bad idea. I'd hate to rebuild once again, but they might look good where the grill bricks are located. Not sure if I have enough though. I may just try it. EDIT: I had also considered replacing the yellow windows with white, but I sort of like the color scheme as it is.

Very nice Ralph. I especially like the excavator. It reminds me of the old steam shovels. The way you designed the arm gives it a real hydraulic look. Nice use of the cheese-slopes as well. Front-paged! I'd stack your creation up against this, but I don't know that it would out dig the old steam shovel.

I stumbled upon some recent Duplo set images recently and they made me think of this topic. For the most part, I think that Duplo track and pieces are just too big for system/standard LEGO, but there are a few Duplo pieces that I would be interesting to use. I especially like the container boxes contained in sets like this that would make an interesting hopper: It would be interesting to see if others have combined the two types of bricks (be it track or other Duplo parts). The down-side is that you loose a lot of the brick-built detail and inticacy with the big Duplo bricks.

Very nice Rupi. In fact, I love your classic vehicles. That working suspension piques my curiosity. Great job and nice photography!

The race is on! -inside the Town Forum that is. Town builders like Rupi have been building some outstanding vintage automobiles lately. You'd think there was some sort of contest. Check out Rupi's Classic 1930s Racer with working suspension as the latest addition.

Fun to watch. Thanks for sharing Iain.

That Re 450 certainly is a nice rendering. I like the slanted front end design. Looking forward to seeing more of your creations ZHB.

Nice job Allan. I love this era. That first one is my favorite and I think it would look very well next to a train loading area. The design looks pretty easy to mimic, but very effective. I may try one of these myself. Thanks for sharing.

It's always fun to see LEGO Town builders take us back in history with older creations. AllanSmith returns EB Town fans to the roaring 20s and 30s with his Old Trucks.

MOC: Santa Fe Western 4-4-0 Locomotive
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for the tip Z. -------------------------------- I've been doing some photo editing lately with various images from the western United States and thought I'd share this recent image. When creating images for my Grave Stone collection, it's much easier because they're black and white with lots of shaded areas - not much thought as to which looks better or the need to remove objects from the image. Using color photographs is much more difficult and requires heavier editing. -
Building a display for the Emerald Night

I don't know about using 1x8 tiles, but why don't you just buy a box of track? Another possibility, which I would probably do if I were to make track, is the 1 x 16 straight train track piece (Part 3228). I suppose these are rather rare though in looking at the sets that offered them. Dwarve's Mine contained 6 and would give you enough length (I think). I think standard RC straight track (with some tiles on top would probably look the best). Good luck with your display, and I hope you share it when complete. -
That's amazing! I'm not sure if Town is the right place for this, but for lack of a more appropriate forum, and since there is no LEGO Superman license, I suppose this is fine. I look forward to seeing your completed creation. Love what you've done so far, especially with the round sections and translucent bricks. You've definitely managed to capture an icey look.

Interesting build CBF. What was your motivation for creating a 7 wide tender? Was it to make the battery box easier to remove? Your pictures are larger than our site guidelines of 800x600. If you post any additional images, just know the limit for future images. Thanks.

Nice layout Cap'n Z. Do you usually use Track Designer before building a layout? I love your brick built roads.
