TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Okay, okay, help me with these by labeling your topic with a "MOC" in the title. Always helps. Indexed.- 578 replies

I think the originator was fair in disclosing the origins of this creation and don't think we need to get too wrapped up into what constitutes a MOD vs. a MOC. If he simply changed a few pieces, then perhaps MOD would have been more fitting; but again, it's about his custom creation, not about the name. I usually allow the creator to make the call.

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I responded to this a few days ago but looks like the forum trouble removed the newer material. I moved most of the topics to the pinned topic - rarely did anyone post to it. It's funny that it's received more action as an unpinned topic, but most because of the discontinuation discussion. Something new I just started in the last few months, but it means that I've added a thumbnail image of the MOC in the Train Tech MOC Index with a link to the topic. Visit the MOC Index and it will make sense - just about all MOCs have been indexed in 2012. EDIT: I don't usually index WIP MOCs and never index LDD MOCs. If your title is ambiguous (meaning that it does not say MOC or it's unclear that the topic is about sharing a picture of the MOC - sometimes more to discuss a building technique), it may not get indexed. If it is clearly a MOC and MOC is missing from the title, I will add "MOC:" to the title and index. Oh, and I don't index MODs nor do I do windows.- 578 replies

I instantly though "Ghost Train" when I saw the title to this topic E. Nice little engine. That's a hell of a boiler! You've done a nice job creating an unusual engine based on that classic photograph. A ghost or two or perhaps some skellies can always spook things up. -
Welcome Stephen. Glad to have you join Train Tech. Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself and some pictures. I enjoy seeing a train around the Christmas tree this time of year. Love that Haunted House as well! I don't know much about train clubs in your area, but sounds like Z gave you some useful info above. Enjoy the forum and Merry Christmas.

Hi Wabbajack. Glad you took a little time to introduce yourself here. Looks like you've got a nice train collection started. I have the green cargo train and really enjoyed it in my layout.

Electricsteam: I really like this topic and thank you for starting, but please watch the triple posting. I've merged your previous three bumps to a single response. EDIT: thanks for understanding our site guidelines.

All the more reason not to bump a 10-month old topic. For whatever reason, the creator asked that all images be removed. Topic closed.

Hi Joe. I'm glad you took some time to introduce yourself here. I started my train collecting/modeling with HO scale trains as well, many years before LEGO Trains in fact. LEGO is much different in that it lets you build anything. While I'm not up to the highly detailed trains as some of our expert builders here in the forum, I still enjoy building a few MOCs from time to time. What's nice is that you can share the hobby with your son, something that I'm sure he enjoys. I'll check out your family collection and I hope that you continue to enjoy the forum.

Thanks J. Agree with you on the lights. I didn't have any clear ones close by at the time - minor thing for me. In regard to the decals, I didn't know that. I make them myself. How does one print transparent stickers?

Great set Annie. I would certainly try recreating if you can obtain the right parts. In looking at this wonderful set, it reminds me of a build from a few years back. I've always been a fan of the mail car in 7735 Freight Train Set so thought I'd try building my own version. I didn't have the yellow parts so attempted to build in green. The result was this: Pulled by my own red shunter (like the classic blue shunter by LEGO): Take me to More of this Red Shunter These classic train restoration projects can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, you have to sometimes substitute very difficult parts to find (like the wheels for your Mail Van). Good luck with your build and make sure you share your final creation.

Very nice Kyphur. Your question about the stickers is really a tough one. The benefit would be keeping the originality with the old stickers - truly vintage and as Loco Annie mentions, once you remove, they're gone for good. Removing would create a much cleaner, nicer looking train; but you would have to replicate the stickers somehow (if you can). Based on the condition of the stickers and that this is a restoration project, I would lean towards removing and replacing them with fresh decals. Tough choice but either way, the train is an excellent start/addition to your train museum. Oh, I should mention: since coming out of my Dark Ages, I have not used any sticker on any set for this very reason. They do wear over time and get sloppy, I have (once) made a copy of the sticker sheet for the My Own Train steam engine and reproduced on photographic sticker sheet paper. The result was okay but I eventually removed them as well. I'm not a fan of stickers. Good luck!

Welcome T-Bricky. The Fire Brigade is one of my favorites of the Modular sets. I really enjoyed the build and the finished set. You've got to love the vintage fire truck as well. 7938 is one of the trains I don't own as I find the cargo trains more enjoyable (except for maybe the Emerald). Hope you enjoy the forum and good luck with your future LEGO Train collection.

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
All: in spite of my best efforts to utilize this topic for LEGO Train questions, most ignore the topic and post their questions in the main forum. I'm honestly tired of moving/merging the questions (almost on a daily basis). In addition, more discussion takes place in the stand-alone topics vs. the single Question Topic. I'm going to unpin this topic and let everyone post their questions in the main Train Tech forum as stand-alone topics. Does anyone have any heartburn? Please share your thoughts.- 578 replies
