Toy Story 7597 Western Train Chase
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think Kris Kelvin shared a picture of the set and started a discussion earlier in this thread. -
Welcome Aprendiendo. It's always nice to see new members join EB and share their first posts in the Train Tech forum. I would encourage you to share a little bit about yourself in the Train Tech registry if you're a big train fan. Nice job at programming your High Speed Train. Watching the video really shows that this is certainly a high speed train. How difficult was it to power your switch tracks? It would be interesting to see the design. I know very little about LEGO Mindstorms, but it's really fun to watch the touch screen change both speed and switch track. I could just imagine the possibilities of programming a larger layout with lights and other actions all automatically. Thanks for sharing!

REVIEW: 8683 LEGO Minifigures Series 1
WesternOutlaw replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Excellent review WF! - our Principal of the Reviewers Academy. I wanna Cowboy I wanna Diver and I wanna Magician I must admit that I'm a bit envious that you and CopMike have a wonderful collection of these minifigs. I will most certainly buy some and even perhaps a case of this collection. Oh, so much to buy this year, I don't know what's next??? I've got my sites on a few of the exclusives, City, Atlantis, and now these. It's nice to read your analysis of these splendid figs. I hope that we can find these in most stores that sell LEGO. -
Great news! Just catching up w/ all the comments. While it certainly is a great set, I still can't believe the Monorail didn't make the exclusive cut. In rergard to this set, I applaud LEGO for creating something new with the tram. The bus looks like a larger version of that from 7641 City Corner, but I love that lime green as well. Looks like City continues to be a nice theme for LEGO and I'm sure we'll see more down the road.

I don't own one, but it was made by Rose Art: LINK

MOC: Modified 10194 Emerald Night
WesternOutlaw replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nicely done! I love the extra length of the passenger/dining car. With the lights, you've really added an aura of elogance and mystery. Great job. -
Hi Melfice. You certainly have a fine collection of LEGO Trains started. Despite some criticism of the Cargo Train Deluxe and it's battery powered RC system, I actually think it's a great train. I've got it running around my Train Town now. I like the diversity of the cars and it's able to climb elevated track quite nicely. Every LEGO train fan should own at least one Hobby Train. It makes a great parts pack, and the Swiss Crocodile is a lovely model. I leave mine displayed on a shelf. It is 4-tracks long, so does take up some space on your track (for just an engine). Please continue to enjoy our LEGO Train forum here on EB, and feel free to share those MOCs and set reviews.

Awsome! This MOC really captures the essence of summertime fun. I really like the water and the tire swing.

Thanks. Glad you like it. I actually searched for a similar topic thinking that favorite MF may have been discussed before, but could not locate one. I don't frequent the SW forum very often, but if there is a similar topic, I'm okay w/ this being merged/added to the original. Excellent! It's interesting to read your thoughts. I like to create polls like this, especially when the collection spans many years. That would be me. I had considered originally adding but thought it was getting pretty "low on the totem". It's neat to see votes for other than System sets. I suppose LEGO did a really nice job on the design if the Midi. I have seen it in the stores, but didn't want to buy since it's not minifig scale. It is a pretty nice set though - esp. for 'swooshing'.

As the fastest flying falcon in the Star Wars galaxy, LEGO has offered a number of superb Millenium Falcons. ALL THINGS CONSIDERED (design, playability, size, piece, selection, color, price) which is your favorite?

Moved the topic to the Town Forum, but I think this image may have been posted in another thread once before.

Thanks for the tip ISC. I was actually thumbing through the SW Location book in the book shop a few days ago. I didn't purchase, but it is another excellent resource. I have an Indiana Jones book that has similar maps and such. It provided some inspiration for my Desert Adventure I built last year. Good price Big Cam. I saw it on Amazon (for I think $15). I didn't order and ended up buying for full price at my local TRU. ($21/$22 USD or something around that amount). I didn't want to run the risk of getting one beat up in the mail or scratched before shipping. My copy is in pretty good shape. I like the book so well, I think it's well worth the price.

Thanks for sharing a review. It's a nice set and I like the color. I've added a poll and front-paged! EDIT: and congratulations for being our 300th EB Town Forum reviewer!

Toy Story 7597 Western Train Chase
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for the tip, but some TRU stores won't price match with their web site - at least mine doesn't. -
I'll most likely buy the Cargo Train, but I'm not a big fan of "Big Red" (the passenger train). I utilize a 9V layout (because most of my track is 9V), but I currently have the R/C Cargo Train Deluxe running on the layout because it's able to make the climb over the bridge pulling a lot of cars. I also like lots of cars/rolling stock, and LEGO passenger trains just don't afford that opportunity (unless you make them yourself). The Emerald is a bit short. I also like the R/C aspect and the (beep beeeeeepppp) horn of the Cargo Train Deluxe. I suppose the Power System isn't as important to me as the set itself, because one can always slap on a 9V motor without too much difficulty. I still think it's the better system, regardless of the additional functionality with PS (that's just me though). LEGO did need to provide a more economical solution to the rechargeable battery - I suppose this is it.

I apologize for bumping an older thread, but I would like to comment. I've only made a few posts here in the SW forum; but recently, I picked up this book. I realize that it's been out for some time, but what a fantastic pictorial of Star Wars sets. While the images are stunning; as others have commented, the history/timeline on the first few pages is a wonderful resource for SW sets. As I carefully thumb through the beautiful imagery, this book makes me want to break out some of my older SW sets and start building. I've been out of SW for a long time, only picking up a small set or two on occasion, but I'm tempted to order the Death Star now. I'm reminded why so many of you love the SW theme. Great book and one day, I may just create that Hoth diorama I've always had in the back of my mind. This book provides much inspiration. I'd love to see the same idea incorporated in other themes.

"Where did I put those extra 9V motors"? comes to mind.

REVIEW: 8683 Minifig series 1 -, minifig #11 The Nurse
WesternOutlaw replied to Holodoc's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It's Nurse's Week here in the U.S., so great timing! She's a nice little minifig indeed. I really like the syringes and the medical record tile. -

I've merged your topic w/ this discussion of the Toy Story Train. -
It was great watching your minifig collection construct this classic 9V set. It's a very nice way of sharing an image review. This is a 5 star set for me. I didn't even know this set existed until I purchased the Classic Train 3225 several years ago on Ebay and started researching early 9V sets. Now why can't LEGO offer a train car collection like this one now? It would make a neat set and not drive up the price with a motor and track. My favorite car is the red gondola. I like those red hinge pieces that seem to have been replaced with those that have the grooved hinges (making movement much more difficult). I've added a poll to your review. I hope to see more from you Sammy. Thanks for sharing.

Tunamint: I've been meaning to comment about this fantastic train MOC for some time. You truly captured the essence of Classic LEGO trains with this beauty. What really stands out for me is the little red DB engine that almost looks like a shunter. I love those red train doors with the DB decals. With the white strip, it just looks clean, neat, and classic. It's nice to see the angled/upside down windows which makes the figure inside very visible. Your train includes a nice collection of rolling stock that would make this a 5 star set. Great job and I'm glad to see it blogged by Classic Town.
