  1. Thanks everyone for the feedback. That's a good idea. I may wreck a side of the blue building to show some deterioration. It always calls me back - esp. when the wind begins to blow and the leaves change with the colors of Autumn. I like the hands/arms. I did use the new skellies for a few other Grave Stone creations. Here's one: Yes - on the blue house. Most of my bulk bricks are new grey. That's a Mexican flag (created for my Alamo-inspired fort). Although the 1824 may be out of place. I liked the thought of making this creation "South of the Grave Stone border". I actually had it above originally, and moved it down. I would have just added another layer of tan, but I ran out of bricks. There is a hing on one of the sections to return it to the "unbroken state". That's a great idea though. Yes - definately. That's a great part. Thanks Hound Knight.
  2. Train Tech Building Contest Reminder Contest Ends September 30, 2009 With just a little over one week left until the Train Tech Building Contest deadline, you still have a chance to enter. Make sure you hop aboard the Train Tech forum and enter your train creation by September 30, 2009. There's been some fantastic entries in all three categories!
  3. Cale: this is a winning entry in my opinion - simply beautiful. The colors look so clean and neat. As a kid, I had an HO scale railroad display that I received as a gift. The engine was a red, white, and blue diesel locomotive called the "Spirit of St. Louis". This creation reminds me of it so much. Your decals are fantastic. I absolutely love the caboose and the hopper. The trailers are equally impressive. Overall, this is just a terrific MOC. Truly excellent! EDIT: If only it could take the Classic Mining/Logging Train.
  4. Very nice. I love the colors and the strength of this diesel locomotive. This would make a great single train engine Lego set. Nice work on the decals, esp. the larger one. Excellent entry!
  5. Definately the most creative entry so far - very clever! I love the passenger cars. The Fonz gets a for creativity here.
  6. Welcome Selander and Duq. Those are some fantastic creations! I'm glad to see you both joining our train community and look forward to your future creations.
  7. Thanks for the feedback guys. I must say that I'm a little surprised at you not liking the blue structure Steve. For some reason, I recall you building a few brightly colored wild west buildings including blue and yellow (if my memory serves me correctly). In any case, it may appear a little brighter due to the camera flash, but the blue was intentional, and a color I had never used in my WW creations. Perhaps as Batbrick mentioned, adding some additional details to the top might look better. Here's some "behind the scene" images of the MOC. The entire creation that looks much smaller in the picture: The Phantom Rider as he draws two guns against the attackers. An undead Union sergeant cracks through the porch. Its hard to see, but one of the sections is on a hinge to allow reassembly: The blue building. The chain was an extra for detail. Perhaps I was thinking that the top section needed some additional detailing as well: Two skellies in the middle section. I like Steve's idea to add a few different colors to the porch tiles: The middle green building (Sheriff's Office). I initially had the prison much larger and added the middle building later thinking it needed more color: I like this section with the hanging area. I think the coffin adds to the scene. I had thought about adding a hangman - perhaps I might still do so. Here's another shot with the Card Creeper against the wall. I don't have an arch large enough for the gate, but think it would look better as well (at least in my in-house Lego boxes): The prison and ghost tower. I must have rebuilt this section at least three times. I had also considered using a Union flag, but opted to add a bit of a Spanish look to the prison, based on Tierra del Fuego, an actual South American prison: Different angle (from right side): And one last image from the top: In regard to the interior (Klauss-Dieter always asks about the interior), I haven't added anything inside the buildings yet - still under construction.
  8. Thanks for sharing the news B, but I'm very sorry to hear this. It really makes one ask, "What the hell is Lego thinking"? I consider this similar to the discontinuation of 9V trains. So many of us love the theme and have purchased multiple sets. I see kids looking at the Pirate sets in the toy aisle, just as with Star Wars. Instead, we get a watered down Atlantis theme with focus on vehicles like Aqua Raiders. Very sad news indeed - come on Lego.
  9. Excellent review Section8! I had never seen this set before, so it's a real treat to do so. I love the light-up signs. This review deserves a BLOG!
  10. Last Stand at Tierra De Los Muertos The last stop south of Grave Stone is known as Tierra De Los Muertos, a vile prison where only the most evil of men were brought by prison train. No one ever escaped alive from the wretched place and it was eventually closed after years of neglect. Few remember the tortures and atrocities that were a common place within the prison walls, yet the spirits of the dead are known to haunt the place and its surroundings as the last reminder. Two men have come, allied with a common goal, the Phantom Rider and Card Creeper, in search of someone or something locked away in the prison's ghost tower. The dead have been awaken once again and have vowed to stop them. Will they survive their last stand at Tierra De Los Muertos? More pictures coming soon...
  11. This is a good question Gary. When I was a kid, my grandparents had purchased a 12V train for me while visiting Germany. I ended up taking it back thinking that the 12V transformer would not work in the US. To this day, I wonder if I could have done anything to get it running at 110V in the US. I'd be interested in hearing what some of the other train fans know in regard to this power conversion.
  12. Interesting thoughts. It's always great to see how some think outside of the standard City box - esp. with Pirates and Harry Potter. I've had my HP, Spiderman, and Batman sets in the garage for some time, and although I'm not planning to build them anytime soon, the thought of combining a few of these sets would be interesting. I have used a few of the Spiderman sets in my City before, which I think worked very well. The bridge with Cablecar and Doc Ock's Hideout helped create a neat oceanside setting.
  13. I think we should rename this thread to "Pimp My Camper". Wouldn't that make a great contest? Your mods are very subtle, thus fitting in with the overall look of the camper well. I esp. like the addition of the green plates/tiles on top. Also, great place for a television - fitting for a great leisure activity while driving to the beach. Nice job Matt!
  14. Lego City has offered an abundance of different buildings over the past few decades, but have you ever had the urge to add another theme to your Tabletown? Adventurers Batman Creator Harry Potter Power Miners Spiderman Wild West Is a Harry Potter castle too unique for City? How about an Arkham Asylum? Which themes might lend themselves to adding to Town/City? Which themes have you mixed?
  15. I was just wondering, have any of you utilized HO or model railroad lanscaping with Lego Trains? I see that a few train fans utilize the green grass matting, but how about tunnels, trees, and other model railroad landscaping. I believe I've seen one layout that looked pretty good (will post an image if I can find it).
  16. I waited a long time to buy the Town Plan as well as the modulars, but now that I have them, I think they're terrific sets. The Town Plan is very nice with the three unique buildings, two vehicles, and fountain. I also like the little tree next to the garage, which I use with the Farm. The garage/gas station is my least favorite of the three buildings, although I like the roll-down garage door. Lego's last gas station is far better in my opinion, but the design was meant to match the old Town Plan when Kirk was a kid. In terms of value, I paid full price here in the US from LSAH, but I think the set is well worth it. I'm debating if I should add the stickers to the cinema. Overall, it is a fantastic set, and I have mine next to the Cafe Corner. Definately worth buying! - glad to hear that you picked it up (but not a fan of the Police Station). Perhaps we'll see a revised Police Station as a new modular set.
  17. Thanks KD. Yes, I used the same interior as the Emerald.
  18. Just like your layout Panda, your signs are impressive as well. Any simple 12V tips for building custom signs? I notice that 12V layouts have a lot of light signs (I believe they're part of a light set).
  19. Welcome Fonz. Mentioned in the contest rules: All entries are to be posted in Train Tech with the following syntax: TTCE: (name of your creation) TTCE = Train Tech Contest Entry Please do not combine entries (for different categories) under one thread. Images will be posted to an entry thread managed by one of the moderators. This means you post your entry in Train Tech calling it "TTCE: (name of MOC)".
  20. Hi BMW. It's great to have you join us here on Train Tech. You've been one of my personal favorite builders with your Train and Indy creations. I think you may have seen a few of my comments to your fantastic MOCs on Flickr. In any case, I am really pleased that you decided to join Eurobricks, especially Train Tech as your first forum. I look forward to seeing more of your creations as well as your posts here in Train Tech.
  21. Nice site Pe. Glad to have you join us. I'm enjoying all your fantastic layouts. Make sure you check out Classic-Town.net in the next few days.
  22. There's no better compliment, from a great builder with a great creation such as this.
  23. Very nice Gambort! I love the green & white. You're really becoming quite a master of these 1930s vehicles. Make sure you check Classic-Town in the morning.
  24. For those of you who have entered, I must say that I'm very impressed with the overall quality of the contest entries. It's great to see so many fantastic creations, and also the new interest in EB Train Tech. Keep up the excellent building, and I hope to see more of you participating in the Train Tech threads.
  25. Thanks Z. It was fun! (and a bit different than my normal horror stuff)
