Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
With the train quickly rolling toward Cassandra Crossing, Conductor Max, Jim Butcher, and Pete have jumped off the train and walk toward town. The others aboard the crocodile locomotive are feverishly attempting to slow it down. With the rickety wooden bridge in the distance, will Brakes successfully slow or stop the runaway train? or will Cassandra Crossing be the end of the Emerald's remaining crew, passengers, and the townies escaping Willoughby? What ever happened to Grill 'n George and Jethro? Are they dead or alive somewhere along the danger tracks? and will Herman ever change his underwear? (Steve Thomas is steering the Crocodile in the forward cab with Mark. Brakes and Schmelt are in the rear cab. The others are on top of the roof) -

Max flings the cabin door open and jumps off the train in fear! Steve jumps in his seat to help steer the train. Hey! why is this seat so warm? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! (as he roles into the forest underbrush) Herman and the Mayor are able to pull Arin up from the side of the croc. Grease confronts the Mayor who disregards his trigger happy finger gesture. Are you okay Arin? Here, you guys help this lady. (gives Schmelt and Grease the "evil eye") The train continues rolling quickly down the track! Brakes continues to work in the rear cabin trying everything he can to slow it down. (if he would just get his nose out of the Reviewers Academy long enough to fix the train) -
Highlighted/blogged on RailBricks. Nice job! I have a thing for green passenger wagons.

I wonder if they're some sort of mile markers.

Love the colors. Blue always seems to go so well with yellow. It's interesting to see the triple wheel trucks. Does the inner wheel create friction? I found this issue with the Harry Potter coal car/tender.

As the Mayor attempts to pull Arin up from the side of the train, a pair of skid-marked underwear flies from the roof landing on her face... -
Last year, I got busy with Wild West interest and wanted to add a train to the Grave Stone genre. I would start with a lonely little station (the Abandoned Station) and begin delving into train MOCs, which I had never tried before. The result was the Ghost Train collection, initially posted to the EB History & Adventure forum, since the genre related to the Wild West. Since these creations also relate to trains, I thought I would resurrenct the sub-theme and share the entire collection here in the Train Tech Forum within a single post. So, I give you Ghost Train - prepare to embarq for mystery... The initial creation that started the sub-theme, the Abandoned Station. Waiting for the Ghost Train to come can get pretty tiring, especially without dinner: Out of the darkness comes a mysterious train. Are your eyes playing tricks on you? It is the Ghost Train, as real as the the flesh on your bones. The light-up boiler draws you to the locomotive, as your heart begins to beat faster: A skeleton crew maintains the train. The eyes of Shorty McBones, the coal shoveler, glow as he's been staring at the light-up boiler for many years: The first wagon designed for the Ghost Train is the Haunted Train Coach. A glow-in-the dark apparition with yellow hands provide some humor on the "lighter side". A skeletal hand can be seen coming out of the Mysterious Mail Car: My favorite of the Ghost Train cars is the Frightening Freight Wagon, or should I say Fright Wagon? The Witch's Shanty would provide a mysterious trackside structure. Outside is the witch as she summons the Phantom Rider: A werewolf can be heard howling in the distance near the Moonshine Still: Some skeletal railroad workers are busy working their fingers to the bone: And lastly, the Rickety Water Tower provides water for the Ghost Train: Some additional images of the train: And the station: A behind the scenes peek of the moving ghost train can also be found here. This concludes the resurrection of Ghost Train. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks for sharing Steve. I really love these classic western trains. The colors are so vivid and the detailing ornamental. These locomotives look like the engines (SavaTheAggie) creates in Lego. Great history here. Nice!

Jim Butcher makes a running charge for Arin pushing her from the train with force. Arin tumbles over the side, but successfully grabs the side railing. She hangs on tightly as Jim then jumps from the roof top tumbling as he lands on the ground. HELP ME! (hanging from the side of the crocodile engine near the rear cabin door) -
Well hey there fellow train fans! It's Conductor Brickster with another interesting TRAIN TECH topic, this one dealing with Train Signs. "Train Signs"? you ask. Yes, train signs. Many people spend a lot of time building their trains (perhaps even entering them in contests) and designing fancy layouts and towns; but one of the many forgotten details is the train sign. If you have a train running around your track right now, how many signs do you have? If the answer is NONE, don't feel bad, but realize that you are one of many builders that don't spend the little extra time designing train signs for their layout. Some of us are fortunate enough to pick up a sign included within an old station set, but never get around to building one. Take a look at some of the creative signs featured in the picture above. Have you created a simple design for a rail road crossing? Do you have any tips for aspiring train sign builders? Care to share some train sign creativity with other train fans? Discuss TRAIN SIGNS here.

The train continues to pick up speed... Warp 6.5 Captain, I mean Zuloo, I mean Boner, ($hit! would someone just throw me a Johnson Rod already). We're all going to die! We're all gonna die! (begins running in circles again) Don't make me slap you again! Would you pretent to miss and hit Heleanor? -
Welcome Cwetqo. That's quite a collection of sets and MOCs. I particularly like the train pictured in your New Years layout. Reminds me of this LGB-inspired MOC I shared as a building tip: Both of these designs are based on 3225 Classic Train. The tan looks nice with the bright colors. Looking at your train, it reminds me of an LGB starter set. Nice!

Thanks fellas. Here's some additional images, but larger: The classic-style locomotive: Log Car: Barrel Car: Track Car: Box Car: The intent/purpose of this freight train is to haul and construct rails to mineral mines. It's not so much to transport the materials in hoppers out of the mines, for those of you looking for ore.

If we ever make it out of here alive, I'm going to write a book - 100 Ways to Kill a Jethro! -
Excellent WF! I love it. Great job finding all of the our avatars/sig figs. What an ugly bunch of coconuts - and I'm just talking about Hinckley and Shadows. That's a great scene, and I look forward to seeing more of us in acation. Nice job! EDIT: But where's the train?

Do you know where we're heading? We're on a direct course to CASSANDRA CROSSING! (begins frantically screaming and running around in circles until Austin grabs her arms) SLAP! CASSANDRA CROSSING! CASSANDRA CROSSING! CASSANDRA! (Slap!) I'm sorry, I don't know what got over me. -

It's funny watching y'all talk to Jethro like he's still with us. Judging by the way he landed on that spike when he fell from the train, I'd say that he's now in that great big farm in the sky. Perhaps Grill n'George is with him, make'n some holy dogs - but not Scruffy Dogs. The train continues picking up speed as Brakes attempts to slow it down. Come on Brakes! slow this train down! If you don't slow it down Brakes, we're going to derail when we make our next turn! (all the roof toppers suddenly grip the upper side rails turning their heads and bodies, as if to pretend that the train is turning to the right!) (in some sort of strange Scottish accent) Damn it Jim! I'm do'n the best I can, but this bucket o' bolts was never meant to go warp 5. She's out'a control, and now you want me to fix 'er. If we only had use of the dilithium crystals... The crocodile engine passes junction 6 continuing straight. Fortunately, it did not turn to the left. Quick someone! Hand me a Johnson Rod! Would that help us? No, but it would help me. -

In the darkness, some scuffling noise can be heard, followed by whispering, and then laughter. Someone or something just touched my lower right leg... Did it feel like a Johnson Rod? The train approaches the end of the tunnel and as daylight shines in, Jethro can be seen with a cord wrapped around Eleanor's neck. The train exits the tunnel, and Jethro stands up to pull the cord tighter around Eleanor's neck. -
Interesting topic. That would be a nice thought. It's been a long time since Lego offered a decent hospital. I like the bank idea as well.

That's pretty clever, and very original. Nice job. Thanks for sharing. I use to love playing Packman in the arcade!

Oh just duck like all the rest of us. You got a damn hard hat on. - trade you for a soft leather coyboy hat. Max, just let the complainer ride with you in the cabin. He's starting to work on our nerves up here. Just watch out for the old Johnson Rod! -
Interesting thoughts KD. I don't know how real a more complex layout looks with lots of alternate lines, unless created in a more shunting yard style. That is definately a great layout Dave. I bet it certainly provides a lot of fun watching a few different trains running at the same time. Looks like an awesome layout! I'd probably say complex. BTW: No Market Street in that layout?

I was never a big fan of this High Speed Train, but always thought the colors were kind of nice (with the green stripe). Perhaps, I'm just not into the more modern trains, but I do think I like this better than the new RC ICE train. For those of you into modern trains, is the cow catcher-like piece on the engine standard on these types of trains in real life? I always thought it looked a bit awkward.

REVIEW: 7720 Diesel Freight Train Set
WesternOutlaw replied to BillytheKid's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is definately one of those "cute" little train sets. I'm not a big fan of the wagons, but the Red Shunter certainly looks nice. -Reminds me of some of the custom 9V creations made to look like the famous Blue Shunter. Sort of like this one: Is that just a sticker on the blue battery boxcar? -

After much climbing through the forest, the train begins to speed up, definately down hill. The crocodile passes switch #5 heading for a dark tunnel ahead. Just then, townies Charlie and Constable O'Reilly make the mistake of not ducking before being hit by the entrance to the tunnel. WHACK! :skull: :skull: Sorry Charlie... Whispers in the dark... Now they know why we call 'em the "Danger Tracks". The train enters the dark tunnel. Oh crap! I don't think we have any lights.
