Green Grocer on Sale: LSAH U.S.
WesternOutlaw replied to KillaGorilla's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Life isn't fair, but we have the ability to make it enjoyable or not in how we deal with things. I was planning to buy this set in a few weeks during a planned visit to a Lego store (at full price). If the set was available, I would have been just as happy to find it, take it home, and add it to my Train Town. Now that I see it on sale, that's even better. It's all about timing; and again, how you look at your own fortune/misfortune. As a tip, appreciate every day, esp. happiness garnered from smaller things. Where do you find the Store Calendar? It's not in the news archive. -
Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15

Look! It's junction #5 in the distance, and we're still climbing. I'm getting a funny feeling about this... Well I'm feeling pretty worthless right about now. Maybe you should post. No, that's okay, I've been busy with the Reviewers Academy and building all these great new sets! Meanwhile... So what are you going to do with me? (clenching the railing on the rooftop tightly) Throw that boy off the train, before he causes more damage! If you're wondering what made him this way, it was his momma. Beg'n the Mrs. pardon, HEleanor and Arin. I'm sure you two are fine ladies. -
Green Grocer on Sale: LSAH U.S.

I appreciate this bit of information. Often times, discounted sets sell out quickly. I just ordered Green Grocer after reading this thread, plus received free shipping. That's a pretty good deal. I picked up Cafe Corner recently and just love the set. Can't wait to add Green Grocer and the Fire Brigade. These modular sets are awesome! -
Hi Panda. I'm really enjoying your 12V reviews. You have an awesome collection! I wish I had just a few of these excellent 12V sets. I do have one suggestion for you in regard to your reviews (or perhaps two). Pictures can be up to 640 x 480. I see why you attach a thumbnail (smaller image) with the option to make larger, but I think your reviews would benefit from just deeplinking the larger images. I find that pictures around 450 x 337 work well for reviews, and wouldn't require that extra click. Also, you might want to consider taking some close-up images of single rail cars, as opposed to the complete train on the track. You have shared a few, but many of them are of the complete train looking down at it. You're welcome to take a look at any of my reviews for examples. But again, you have a very impressive collection of these trains, and I think your layout is among the largest I have seen (aside from pictures of Lego train shows). Oh, and I love that red shunter pictured with your buffers (stootblokken).

How cool is this? I've wanted to build a truck like this for a long time now (but in dark blue). It reminds me of a favorite Playmobil truck I picked up a few years ago: Great job Gambort! I love the vintage tires.

To tie or to throw is the question... - is that Shakespeare? The croc continues climbing... The forest is getting more dense. -

Closed - but neat video.

And what a great set to clean! For me, that would have been just as enjoyable. I love these classic town sets! A set like this would make a fantastic "stand-alone set" because it offers so much. From different types of vehicles, a dock, and crane with container to hoist, there's a high level of "playability". These are the elements of sets that can really add interest to play and using the imagination; and it's not tied to any particular licensed theme. Imagination is endless.

MOCs: 4-piece (!) blender, popcorn stand, and more!
WesternOutlaw replied to Still Raindrop's topic in LEGO Town
Colonel's popcorn stand, now that's some good stuff! Very nice creations, and a very diverse collection as well. - great building designs. A collection of the smaller creations would make a neat City/Town Creation Idea Book. Nice! -
K100m: first, let me welcome you to Eurobricks. It's great to have you join us, esp. as a very nice Town creator. It's high quality MOCs like this one with vivid pictures that I really enjoy seeing. I love this little engine! It reminds me a lot of the highly detailed vehicles in 10200 Custom Car Garage, esp with the doors. Very nice! I like all the little extra details like the side hose, ladder, and that classic town fire fighter w/white helmet. This is an A+ creation and would go so well with the new Fire Brigade set. In about 6 hours, you'll find this creation blogged on Classic-Town.net. Make sure you check it out. Top notch!

Taltos: thanks for sharing these creations. I had not seen the Shark Train or the Circus Train before - very nice. I have thought about building an aquarium car once before, after seeing a small Thomas version. I think it would make a clever creation. In regard to your Adventure Train, I can't tell you how many times I've checked your Brickshelf account admiring your fine creation. I'm a huge fan of the Adventure themes, and after seeing your Adventure Train, I wanted to build one myself. As a novice train MOCer; however, I never even knew where to start. Fabulous creation!

Yes, there's been one in fact, The Tragon: I really like the colors and the overall design is outstanding.

Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15

If we throw both of these Farmer John's off the train, we run the risk of condemning an innocent man (if one is telling the truth). What do you guys think? -
Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15

Charlie attempts to push both Jeb and Jethro over the edge of the train at the same time. Jeb grabs the middle railing for dear life while Jethro nearly falls over, before catching his balance... -
Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Sure Pop! Try to pin all of your deception on me. Well, I think this group is smarter than the average bear, and can recognize a bear trap layer, a lyer, and a scorpion tracker (whatever that means). Tried to blame it on Children of the Corn, but we know who hides in the corn fields with harvesting knives ready to backstab their kin! You nearly killed that nerd boy Herman by almost scaring the poop out of his tighty-whities with your stories about knive-carrying scarecrows. Then you almost schmelted poor Schmelt, just cause you don't like that fancy foreign food. -
Wild West is certainly a fun "play theme". As I said previously, Weapons Wagon was my last set that I think I actually played with. That was over 10 years ago. Yes, that's a very good point. Sometimes just having a single "stand-alone" set is much more enjoyable than the entire town, display, or tabletop. What often times happens; however, at least for me, is that the one small set inspires me to build or set up a much larger display with the particular theme (Castle, Adventurers, Town/Train, etc.). Then I find myself in the same rut, displaying as opposed to play. I enjoy music while I work on my displays as well - not to "play" though. Good points - all.

Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
He's lying! He's been part of the Town Council long before I was born. He's sneaky, and he planted all the traps in the farm, and stabbed Schmelt, and was part of the conspiracy back at the mill. Throw him off the train! He's not my dad, he's really Momma! Through Momma from the train! The crocodile starts its climb through the forest. -
This is a silly topic. If you'd like some images for your banner, then you're certainly welcome to send a PM. While I enjoy seeing pictures of people's train towns and layouts, this post doesn't sound like it was intended for that reason. In addition, other members may not like you using their images for your banner, so this is why you need to be clear when asking. In addition, there's another thread related to train pictures with very few responses. Who's WE? If you are letting others post under your account, then you should stop this practice. Eurobricks is intended for Adult Fans of Lego. We try our best to maintain quality topics. This is not one of them. TOPIC CLOSED!

REVIEW: 7745 High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
WesternOutlaw replied to BillytheKid's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Wow Panda, yet another 12V classic! Your collection is truly amazing. I'm loving these 12V trains. This was never one of my favorites; however, after seeing this review, I really like the red and black colors and the overall design. The set certainly has a lot of extra detail that I enjoy seeing, like the interior of the engine (esp. with the old grey space control slopes - nice!) I like your custom observation car. I'd love to see a close-up picture of this MOC. It looks great, and makes a perfect addition to the set. What I really like is the building as part of the alternate model. How great is that to have instructions for a completely different model, and not just a train? This is a fantastic "value-added" feature of this set. On a side note, I think I've got all your reviews indexed and have added polls. If I missed one, just let me know. Thanks for sharing. -
Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15

HEY! Don't mess with Texas! We're fast approaching Switch #4. Good thing we tossed the extra weight. I think the forest is up hill. The Crocodile passes Switch#4 as it turns towards the forest. The sun is setting in the distance. I hope we make it out before it gets dark. I hate the Willoughby forest at night. -
Thanks KD. I always enjoy reading your comments related to any town layout - and you're always honest with your likes and dislikes (I respect that). Yes, I think you're right-on with the need for stickers. I may just have to break-down and put them on. In regard to Cafe Corner, I must admit that it's my personal favorite model. I was NOT planning to buy the modulars, and now that I have the one, I must say that I absolutely love it. I enjoy looking at it (over and over again) - kinda gives me one of those "warm fuzzy feelings". I do plan to buy the Green Grocer soon, as well as the new Fire Brigade. As someone who lives ina very dry, arid climate, without many "traditional green trees" (sort of like Grave Stone), I love having the green plates and lots of trees. - reminds me of Germany! I nixed the Classic Main Street because the style just didn't fit well, and the farm is larger and newer (thinking it blends in more). I love the farm, the red roofs, and the cows. Plus, with Cafe Corner, that's a hotel, and I have a more detailed "Main Street" now. Those cypress trees are from the old Knights Tournament set (x2) purchased in the late 70s/early 80s (dating myself again) . Thank you Dave. It's fun re-arranging and placing new models on the table. Green Grocer will be next. What amazes me is how small the display looks in pictures. You should share your layout sometime. I'd look forward to seeing it.

Nice! I'm going to have to check out this program. My only recommendation for indexing the gifs is modifying your groups a bit. Perhaps "Trackside Structures" would be a good heading for stations, and train-related buildings. Also, maybe have a stand-alone heading for baseplates & roadplates.

Murder on the Emerald Express: Chapter 15

You're a double-backstabbing $OB Mayor! I hope they find out about all the town council members, Je... Just then, the Mayor flings his elbow toward Kill'N George, who falls off the train leaving George in a nearby mud filled-ditch. In the distance, he can be seen holding up his fist cursing, "I'll get you Mayor! and all those that voted me off the i s l a n d "! Switch #4 can be seen ahead. -
Lehmann Toy Trains is a toy company which is part of Lehmann Gross Bahn (LGB) (now owned by Marklin), maker of G-scale trains. For those of you unfamiliar with "G-scale", "G" is for Garden, as in large scale garden railroad. The scale is 1:22.5 (at leats for LGB). I've been an admirer of LGB and G-scale trains since I was a kid, only seeing them in the more expensive toy shops. Playmobil uses a very similar, if not the same scale for their trains and were even sold with brass LGB track many years ago. What I'd like to share related to Lehmann Toy Trains, LGB's fun train for kids, is the fact that they have some very creative train sets and wagons marketed for children. While I've seen numerous Lego train models inspired from real-life trains, Lego train enthusiasts haven't really created too many "fun trains", aside from maybe a handful of Thomas trains. Here are a few example of Lehmann's "Toy Trains": - An exploding dynamite boxcar (I love the thought of this one) - Themed trains like circus, black & white spotted cow, Peanuts, and Disney - Bubble blowing car - Dynosaur cars (to name just a few) I think some of these trains from Lehmann Toy Trains would make great Lego creations. Have you tried creating any "fun trains"? Share your thoughts.
