The sets The sets 7720 and 7722 are 4.5v as they come with battery wagon however on the last pages of instructions of 7722 it shows how to change the motor and make it a 12v one. The sets 7710 and 7715 are push-along so you can make them 4.5v or 12v as you wish.

I don't think the printing year can tell much about the version of the instructions. It is more important to check the ID code of the instructions. Like Lego boxes, (almost) all of them have the same copy right year but the content may be different. So what are the ID numbers of the two versions of your instructions 6392? Now, I remove one wrong answer from each row: From the first row, I remove 7750 From the second row, I remove 7727 From the last row I remove 7720.

True. However, I think the answer of this quiz will be interesting for fans of 12v trains. :-)

Very nice! This answer is correct but NOT the answer that I intended! :-) I still don't know how this difference in instructions of 7735 appeared. Both instructions have the same Id number 120418. It could be a mistake that TLG corrected later. I don't know about that. But the answer I have in mind is not a mistake that was corrected in later releases. It would be nice if you upload a copy of the two versions of the instructions of 6392 that you mentioned to me.

If so, which one it is? could you find and send me the links or scans of the two versions? :-)

By instructions, I mean "book" or "manual" or whatever you would call them. In the photo, there are 13 instructions, or 13 books,.... whatever. Each book or instructions have guides to biuld several models. For an example, the instructions of the set 6923 have two versions. Starting from step 15, the design of the device on the top of the model is different between the two versions. Compare https://swooshable.com/sets/6923-1 http://www.peeron.com/scans/6923-1/9/ I claim that there are two or more variations of a book of a set. Otherwsie, the quiz would be meaningless.

So far, only ONE AFOL has given me the right answer :-) Hi everybody, This one is a real challenge! After the quiz N2 that we had as warm-up, here we are with a harder quiz. I am really curious to know if anybody knows or can find the answer of this one. I would consider a prize for the winner(s). If you are sure you know the answer, please "DO NOT SPOIL", but only pm me. But if you have any guess together with some reasons for your guess, you are very welcome to comment under this post so that we can discuss about it and who knows, maybe we get multiple responses. Here is the question: WHICH INSTRUCTIONS have MORE THAN ONE VERSION? The sets in question are 7710, 7715, 7720, 7722, 7725, 7727, 7730, 7735, 7740, 7745, 7750, 7755, 7760. I believe you cannot find the answer by googling (I couldn't). Good luck :-)

Quiz N2: what do you find uncommon in this photo again?!
Reza replied to Reza's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This answer is correct. Bravo! I would try to split the current blue battery item on bricklink. For sure. I am currently busy, but will do it at some point soon.- 6 replies

Quiz N2: what do you find uncommon in this photo again?!
Reza replied to Reza's topic in LEGO Train Tech
NIce try but I didn't not mean this. Actually the magnets can be taken off without any damage. I have seen few experts telling me that this is hard and that it can break the magnets. I have done it many times but never broke any of them. Whenever I get some free time, I will upload a video on how to do it safely.- 6 replies

There has been some rumors that I am not capable to make new quizzes. This is NOT true! I come back with new quizzes. For warm-up, let's stick to 4.5v battery wagons again! After the successful quiz N1: which was followed with a new item on bricklink: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=x488c03&idColor=5 now again: what do you find uncommon in this photo? I have told the answer to few friends. Please do not spoil. If you know the answer, you can pm me then I comment that you know the answer so that people can think about this photo for few days. There are gonna be harder quizzes, so prepare for them! ;-) :-) Have fun.

Request for technical advice: 4.5V battery box, 12V conducting rail
Reza replied to DameVeraLynn's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I assume that the list of motors you wrote in my thread are exactly those you had 30-odd years ago. The same assumption for your 2731a and 2731b. (are these assumptions correct?) You had two black motors 08 6 and 29 6 from 1986 and one from late 1982 (41 2) . You also had 7755, 7865 and 7745. Then 7755 comes wtih 41 2 because it was not released after 1984. Then you got two other motors in 1986 with 7865 and 7745. Their production date is close so it doesn't matter which came with which. I believe that 2731b was never sold separately. So if you didn't buy it (or were given) from a friend or a cousin, then you got 2731b with your 7745 and later you bought 2731a in a service pack. Does this sound correct? -
Request for technical advice: 4.5V battery box, 12V conducting rail
Reza replied to DameVeraLynn's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I bought last summer the boxed set 182 coming with a similar 4.5V battery box. It did not work. I had also bougth 7722 from Ebay missing the battery box. After reading on how to restore and getting rid of corrosion, I worked on it for two hours. Finally I plugged-in and turned the switch and then, the noise of motor running. Being alone in my apartment, I made a loud cry for this glory! I cannot help with this. But I have a question. Could you tell me if you got this with your 7735 or 7745? Could you check the number written under the motor of that train with which you got this 2731b? -

Help: when were your 12v motors released? Let's complete the table!
Reza replied to Reza's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks. Is this in original condition? (coming with original parts,...) I have many questions concerning all trains, in particular 7725, 7730, 7735, 7745, 7750 and 7760. -
Nice story :-) Your train looked so shiny :-) I pointed out two things: 1) the train 7725 does not come with 2731b (or 2731a). The early versions come with normal conducting tracks and the later version (since about 1982) came with 3241c. This would have saved you some money. 2) your motor is the wrong version. But I guess you don't care.

Inside of Black Electric, Motor 4.5V Type I 12 x 4 x 4 (bb07)
Reza replied to freestorm's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Based on bricklink, there are 3 sets having this black motor, as it appears to me that the sets 118-3 and 119-1 are very similar: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=bb07&in=S As far as I know, I only have one blue motor. God knows it is now at the bottom of which box! Maybe you could open your motors and take a photos and upload? If I find mine, I would do the same. -
Inside of Black Electric, Motor 4.5V Type I 12 x 4 x 4 (bb07)
Reza replied to freestorm's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Do the interior of blue and black motors exactly the same? there is a good chance they are since both were produced between 1967-69. If so, then all he needs to do is the buy a working blue motor and replace the content of his black motor :-) -

The black battery case is also expensive: starts from 12 euro on bricklink. You got a good deal! Bravo! -
Help: when were your 12v motors released? Let's complete the table!
Reza replied to Reza's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks. P.S. a set 7725 on bricklink is seen with motor type 1 with the latest production date of 1980 in my list: 41 0. But I will need to see this again. -
Why did Lego never sell 12v trains in United States
Reza replied to Bloodwave's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The train 7720 came also in a US marked box. I don't know if this has some thing to do with 12V system in US, but TLG had experience of selling 4.5V trains in 70s with trains 180, 181, 182 and 183. I am not sure all were sold here, but I am sure 181 and 182 were in Canadian market. So, TLG made a decision based on their experience they had in 70s. It is worth mentioning that most sets released in 1980 were 4.5V and 12v trains and their supplemental sets. What sets remained for the US market then?! Fabuland?! -
Help: when were your 12v motors released? Let's complete the table!
Reza replied to Reza's topic in LEGO Train Tech
So far, the question 4 is almost answered: Based on the data I got, I was expecting to see 7735 and 7745 with motor type 4. I got recently many helps from an Italian 12v lover who has done many contributions in correcting inventories of 12v trains on bricklink. So I told him what I think about motor type 4 and asked him to check his photos. Then he gave me photos of a MISB 7745 coming with motor type 4. This was my face when I received his email and saw the photos It is already added to the inventory of 7745: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=7745-1 We need some photos of a MISB 7735 too, but that will come soon. We have some ideas to answer questions 2 and 3. We are closer to answer question 1; a very hard question. Please check your motors if you haven't done so yet. The most important motors are red ones as they are rare. If you have only few motors, even that may answer (or help in answering) one of these question. Do not forget to mention to what set your motor belong. -
Should 12v train motor bb12vb be split on bricklink catalogs?
Reza replied to Reza's topic in LEGO Train Tech
thanks :-) More and more commented on that thread supporting the split. We are one more step closer to the victory :-) -
Thanks freestorm. This was so useful. I like to see and read French catalogs :-) Checking again these catalogs, I got also an idea for convincing bricklink admins to split the motors bb12vb into two subcategory: integrated pin(type 2)/separated pin(type 3) Indeed, the trains , 7755, and then 7735 and 7745 came with motor type 3. But if you check instructions, the pictures don't show that the pin is separated from the rest. However I noticed that in the catalogs you scanned and uploaded, there were newer photos of the black motors showing the separated pins. :-)

Great idea! I loved the reversing feature. Would love to see a video of your cat watching it! Please stay faithful to all dimensions,... to the original 7720. your other wagons seems to be longer.
