  1. Well, I just posted on ebay my 8294 to try to raise money for the 42006 if your interested. Unfortunately after 4 years and two home moves I have misplaced the sticker set. Just can't wait to get my hands on the new one!
  2. Just saw it online as well. Almost same as set 8294 http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/8294-1 8294 was 720 pieces for $60 in 2008. 42006 is 719 pieces for $79. I wonder what makes it much more valuable?? They both have 2 large actuators. $20 for claws and small actuator over medium bucket? Anyway, I saw that the 8294 used is going for more than $100 used on ebay, so I reassembled the set to make sure I have all the pieces and selling it to buy the 42006.
  3. Was able to find time to read the book. Thank you "Sariel" for taking your time creating a one of a kind. I have a couple questions/criticisms. It may be I don't totally understand. Page 72, Figure 7-17. It shows pictures of "parallel levers". I know it was drawn in cad, but the gears are unable to mesh. As shown in the figure, the teeth are in line with each other. I think showing that this is unfortunately not possible with Lego gears may have been good to show. Page 209, "trailing arm suspension". Nothing is stopping the axle itself from rotating and binding. There are only 2 links supporting the axle to the frame. The other 2, as shown in Figure 15-17, are a complex suspension design. I think showing a 4 link triangular suspension, or 4 link parallel suspension with a draglink would have been cool too. Please don't take my criticism personally. Like I said thank you for your hard work putting this book together. It's the first book I have actually read cover to cover, ever.
  4. PLEASE tell me either 42000 or 42006 is Blue!! Other than that, no big thrills to me. Looks like I'll be getting more than 1 Extreme Crawler.
  5. (If this needs to move to another forum, just let me know where you moved it. I only come to the Technic forum.) Just wondering how to keep the instruction books safe, organized, and easy to find the one you want. Right now mine are piled up in a drawer. Glenn
  6. Much better. Great skills on the whole design. Glenn
  7. Figured I would share this here instead of starting a new topic: This is my start to building the 9398. I planned to replace all the red with grey, and white with black. Now playing the waiting game to buy the kit for the rest of the parts. Too bad I have to wait til my birthday in September. BTW, those 11.5 Orange Double Bent Liftarms came 1 at a time from Bricklink. Glenn
  8. Dave, that's not cool to moc someone's moc. He made the crawler out of parts in his collection. I give him 2 thumbs up! While waiting for my official set, I made a grey frame, black axles, and black rear tailgate/fenders to replace the red and white. Now just have to order the "32009 Orange Technic, Liftarm 1 x 11.5 Double Bent Thick" pieces to match the rear fenders. Glenn
  9. I have had Legos all my life. Back in '06 is when my collection changed from a house fire. That's when I went from studded to studless. I now have over 30 sets. Most of my friends and family understand why I love them as a hobby. And if they don't, they do after seeing my collection and what Technic sets can do. I'm 31 and will never give them up. If they are you giving you a hard time, just tell them it's an investment. I mean, when was the last time a Lego set went down in value? Glenn
  10. This is what I posted on the other 2h2012 thread: Stopped at the Lego store today. Models come out July 23rd. Here are the prices: 9398 4x4 Crawler: US $200.00 9396 Helicopter: US $120.00 Glenn
  11. It seems to me that you could reverse the role of the actuators between the landing gear and ramp easily if you wanted to. Great reveiw of the set. It's defenately on my list with 9398.

  13. I did the 8258 mod the hans way. Then I started removing pieces and changing out parts. I got the same result with fewer special parts. His 9397 dual mod may be strong but again a lot of special parts needed to accomplish a simple goal. Maybe I should show off my version but I'm not in the same league. On a side note, hans mods to the 8258's crane are very useful and I use them just as he designed. Runs much smoother and without changing direction the motor rotates. Not bad mouthing his mods by any means, just a different approach to the same goal.
  14. Thanks. Not as nice as Hans or 2Legoornot2Lego, but my mocs are more for function than aesthetics. Hoping it will support the bulldozer and excavator. We'll see. Thanks. I have been racking my brain on how to get the geometry right. Then this last time, it just fell into place as if I knew what I was doing. I'll take closer pics so if anyone is like me and wanted this type of ramp on their project.
  15. First is the 9397 Log Truck. I plan to remove the stakes and install a fifth wheel. I also want to incorporate the 8258 Crane Truck's folding crane arm for foldability and longer reach to load the trailer. I also have the 9397 Red Daycab Truck to pull either version of the trailer. Yes they are the same part number rim and tire. 5571 Was one truck I wish I bought when it came out. Now it's out of my budjet.
  16. Figured I would post some pictures of my latest project. I started making the frame. Then added the flatbed part. I noticed how easy the flatbed part is removeable, so I also made the ramp removeable. Then just added 6 stake sets and use it for logs to go with the 9397 Log Truck. I apologize for the crappy pics. I'm on the road with only my phone for a camara. The flatbed is missing 3 of the 5 x 11 panels on the right side. They are waiting at home as well. So, consider these pics just a teaser until I get home. haha.
  17. Like on an RC car, does the servo motor have an adjustment to where "center" is? It would stink if you could never get a vehicle to drive straight.
  18. I have been racking my brain on how to create a self unfolding ramp for the back of a trailer I'm working on. Hopefully this will give me the geometry to make it happen. I have made Han's XXL Crane and loved it.

  20. That blue body, white frame and boom 8285 would be perfect size for next years model. Only black are the pins and axles. No red or yellow. Brilliant! I don't want to know how much it would cost to replicate that model.
  21. I wanted the black rims as well. The best bang for my buck was to buy a used set of 8146 - Nitro Muscle off of Ebay. Now I have the wheels plus some extra useful parts. Glenn
  22. I was hoping to see some attachments for the 8110 unimog, but I guess they don't see the value in it.
  23. I agree the pictures should be better. I'm trying to take smaller pictures so I wouldn't have to resize them. Instead, they were low quality. And yes, 8110 and 8297 were hanging around. I swapped the wheels to see how 8297 would look, and liked it. Anyone want comparison pics let me know.
  24. Yeah, I tried the LEGO way to add a color to a vehicle with minimal parts. And I want BLUE!! haha. Thank you everyone for the comments.
