  1. Just thought I would share what I have been working on lately. First truck is a wrecker with hog steering, true duals, 4 pf functions (boom lift, boom raise, winch, towbar), and manual towbar tongue and stabilizers. 2nd Truck is just a red day cab with blue fenders. And here they are all together. Not 100% Complete, but figure I'd show what I have so far. Questions and comments welcome.
  2. Well, if you wait a couple months, maybe the use of the servo motor would work with the switch. It would be full steer on the trailer when the truck is turning, but have return to center when the trailer is straight.
  3. Looks Great! Now just to add a fifth wheel to it. I have used "2legoornot2lego"'s idea of the quick coupling fifth wheel. Works good but I'm gonna try a new idea so it works more like the real thing. By the way, I tried out your design for steering. The only flaw I noticed is the pin connector are friction pinned, making it hard to steer. I was thinking of using the original steering parts, and cutting 1 in half to use like yours and be frictionless, but I can't see myself cutting Lego pieces. Glenn
  4. I didn't mean to sound upsetting. If that's the way it sounds I'm sorry. If you enjoy the way your building your moc than that's all that matters. I enjoy watching the progress that you are making. Someday I hope to make a decent moc without using other ideas. But I am still a beginner with the studless. Building sets make it look so easy. Then making the moc is another story. I'm only 30 but going from studded to studless is teaching an old dog new tricks. Haha
  5. I agree with VFracingteam. Part of making a moc is experimenting as you go. Sometimes the whole model comes apart because of 1 little detail you didn't like. For instance, I had my moc of the 8285/8258 rotator tow truck I presented. I rebuilt the whole chassis to try to make it stronger. Looked ok, but still failed. So now I'm working on a 2nd tow truck design based off the 9397 log truck. Functions work great, but looks like crap so I'll be tearing the back half apart again. I'm going to try to incorporate your steering idea as well. Its all about trial and error. Even the best like Sariel and Crowkillers made many many versions of their mocs before presenting the final product. Btw, your moc is looking great. Would love to see how it looks next to the 8258 crane truck. Glenn
  6. Could you take a picture of your steering without the wheel on? Trying to see how you achieved the pivit inside the rim. Thanks.
  7. I found this when brousing for new parts: 87082 - Red Technic, Pin Long with Friction Ridges Lengthwise and Center Pin Hole Only 1 comes in this set: 9446 - Destiny’s Bounty
  8. Only thing I'm looking for in 2013 is a flagship model in blue, or at least a 1000 part count in blue theme.
  9. Haven't tried the b model yet. It's on my list of things to do. 9397 is worth the money just in parts if you don't like the model. There are tons of gears and specialty parts in the kit. I personally am making my own version of it. One as a tow truck, the other as a red regular truck. Can't wait til next month when I get to build the real set. I'm not really into flying sets, but that helicopter looks too good to pass up.
  10. I'm not into the supercars, although 8880 was a great experience. But if they made a blue one, I would buy at least 2.
  11. Just like the topic says, where are all the blue kits? Looking through my collection of spare parts, all I see is black, grey, red, and yellow. The 2012 trucks have red frames with black bodies. A red plane. Why couldn't either the tow truck or log truck be blue? Most of my mocs are black cause that's all I have in variety. I can't believe kids don't like blue (if they get to pick the color of models during testing.) Yes, it's nice to see orange in the mix. But I want huge blue kits!! Who's with me!?
  12. I organize my spare parts the same way as bricklink does: axles, pins, liftarms, etc. I had them in drawers but since I am over the road in a semi truck they all are in ziplock bags in a box.
  13. Sorry if this is a repost from someone else, but just seeing if there is anyone else as excited as I am. I overlooked the 8292 Cherry Picker when it came out. But since then I've bought the 8052 Container Truck, 8109 Flatbed Truck, and 8071 Lift Truck. I wanted to complete the "set". After a year of trying to get a good price and fighting to win the auction, I was able to get 8292 used for $80 on Ebay. I can't wait to see it at home and build it. Anyone else have a similar story?
  14. I started with the basic building blocks, but my first technic set was the 948 go cart. I still have the instructions. I probaly should try to build it just for the significance of it.
  15. How did you do the variable speed of the rotors? Looks realistic. Nice entry.
  16. All of them will be going in their "stock" locations. (Hood, doors, gearbox). The four functions are boom lift, boom extension, winch, and wheel lift. Glenn
  17. Hey guys, I just ordered some of the new parts that come with this set. Waiting for a chance to go home to add them onto my tow truck version of the log truck. Black Pin 4560174 - $0.18 each: Extra Long Light Bluish grey Perpendicular Connector 4652234 - $0.48 each: Number 13 (4558775) and number 14 (4558740) Black Panels - $0.80 each: Number 5 (4558774) and number 6 (4558731) Black Panels - $0.76 each: Prices are in US Dollars. I'm a truck driver so I have to wait a couple more weeks then I'll be home. I'll take pictures of my MOC and post them. PS - Tried uploading pictures from flickr but it didn't allow me.
  18. Don't know if anyone can help me out, but I'm building the truck with my parts and I'm having a hard time building the hood, firewall, and how the windshield attaches to the roof. If anyone have pictures of this it would be great.
  19. Got mine on order finally. Toys R Us is running thier buy one get one half off, so I got the Unimog for full price and this one for half. I drive tractor-trailer cross country so now I just have to wait til I get home again to build them. From pictures I started building the frame with my collection. I was surprised it's almost as long as the 8285 Tow Truck. Real stiff constuction as well. I'm thinking of turning my version into another tow truck. We'll see how it goes.
  20. From watching the videos, I think another good mod would be to add the 8869 PF switch for easier use of the functions. Right now there is a good deal on ebay. I just picked up 3 of them for $5 each.
  21. I beleive that it is still a 5 x 11. The bottom holes have pins going into the bumper.
  22. I saw this model today, and I think I'll modify it to look like this with the trailer: The Lego truck looks real close to the same design.
  23. First thing I did with this set is swap strings with the 9395 Tow Truck. String is perfect length for it now, plus I get more length for the truck. Cool looking set but like most I'll prob take it apart for the parts.
