  1. Just seen the little Zavvi promo clip for the Villians Icons set and it features Marcos Bessa as the designer. Now my excitement transferring from the Harry Potter theme to the Disney line this year makes perfect sense. I got back into Lego with Bessa's Ewok Village and clearly his design style is still speaking to me.
  2. It certainly would, but I think we know of all the polys for this year. Probably as I can't see it being any cheaper. I'm not expecting it to happen at all to be honest. As much as I appear to not be the only one who thinks the Villians Icons would work well as a bookend along with a Heroes Icons, Lego never does the expected.
  3. Well it is in one sense as a reflection of the wave overall, but then why shouldn't Dobby come out on top for once,
  4. Honestly I don't know at the point. There's so much material they could cover and then you find one of the sets is not even film related as such so goodness knows. Top of my list would be a Heroes Icons to match the Villians, a tower with Rapunzel, Eugene and Mother Gothel, and something Brave related so we get a Merida minifigure.
  5. I have to say that after seeing more reviews I think I'm going to have get Dobby. I don't go for the buildable creatures normally, but he is very cute and I think he and Groot will get along nicely. The fact that Dobby gets a heart of gold also really shows some designer love to me. The train on the other hand doesn't look so good to me now so think I'll be skipping it, and I still can't fathom why no one is mentioning those light grey rooves.
  6. I have to say, Dobby looks even cuter on video to me. And although I do find it odd that things like the weird colour roof choice for the Express's carriages just don't get a mention, I do love the train otherwise. Like you, the Battle of Hogwarts seems less impressive in video; the interior is non existent!
  7. Cheesey Studios on Youtube has reviews of all the new sets apart from the Expecto Patronum set.
  8. Ouch that trunk set is not worth that. I can see why people might be more inclined to get this one than the house trunk because of the Quidditch torsos, but the house trunk is regularly reduced to £40 ish. The train is also a lot more than the last system scale which I'm guessing is due to the track being included because there's not much more there otherwise. Yes there are two carriages but everything is smaller. Are you tempted by any now you know the prices?
  9. I know, but according to @bRICKbRAT there are 5 more possible unknown sets. Guessing they must be August releases.
  10. Do we know when the rest of this year's unknown Disney sets are meant to be releasing. It feels like too late in the day to not know about them for them to be June releases so maybe August?
  11. Honestly, probably not. I don't need another train and the minifigures are mainly reuses. Sure Harry's glasses print is cute, the photo album cool etc, but the grey roofs are just wrong and I don't need to buy the whole set for the little things. I think my only Harry Potter purchase this year from now will be Gringotts and maybe the advent calendar
  12. That set is great! A good compact little display piece and a highlight of the year. The amount of minifigures and the Grindylow is fair value too.
  13. I've refrained from commenting because basically this wave really hasn't excited me, but as you've mentioned it, here goes. To me this wave feels very incohesive. The train is the standout set for me; yes it's small and shrunk, but it's cute and colourful and a different station to the last models and even though I have the large Hogwarts Express I would still be tempted to get this one out of nostalgia for the first movie. Yet even this set seems sloppy. Why exactly would they make the rooves of the carriages light grey when no other Hogwarts Express has ever done so and the large D2C Hogwarts Express, supposedly the more accurate display model that was only released last year, features black carriage rooves? The two tones between engine and the carriages just makes the model look bad to me. I've even re-watched the movie scene to see if I'm missing the fact that light grey is more accurate, but no, on a re-watch, it isn't: the carriage rooves still look black, dark grey at very best. I think there's going to be the same situation as there was with the previous clash between castle roof colours and people will be swapping out the light grey for black. As for WWW, this would have been great if we didn't have DA, but as we do we can see how WWW can be done better so this one isn't very inspiring, new minifigures and a few interior details added aside. Moreover, as we are waiting to see how Gringotts has turned out, I think this has just made a lot of people nervous that whilst it should be detailed and grand, Gringotts is ultimately going to be more compatible with this model down the line. Then we have not one, but two buildable creatures. Dobby has arguably been done well and they managed to capture cute not creepy and I think there will be a market for him even if it's not us on this forum, but the patronus as well in the same year feels like overkill. I can't fault the designer who has done an admirable job, but when it comes down to a patronus on a black base, I think many of us, and the wider market, would have gone crazy for an 'Always' diorama and not a buildable power ranger mech. The Battle of Hogwarts feels very lacklustre. I can't help but look at it and think Hogwarts is bound to fall when all it has is one long thin wall to fight over. Yes I know the parts remake themselves into the bridge when combined with the other sets, but looking at the wave purely on its own it feels very anti-climatic. Even one knight statue would have added a bit of presence to the scene. Still don't know how Promobricks thought we were getting McGonagall and a statue up to as recently as they were saying when they seemed to be waiting on permission to release details. Then the Quidditch trunk is a good way to get all four house Quidditch torsos, but is essentially another expensive gimmick. I'm really hoping this is just a temporary lull and that next year will come back with a bang, because this year the theme feels a bit fatigued.
  14. The new face print for young Harry in the Hogwarts Express has a double line between his glasses lenses. Is this to represent them being all taped up before Hermione fixed them do you think? It looks like it to me which is really cute if it is.
  15. Does anyone know from either setting it up physically or from digital constructing the length and depth of this new combined Hogwarts model?
  16. I figured the Queen of Hearts isn't such an odd choice when you now consider the Villains Icons set; the Queen of Hearts card is featured in the set, but her minifigure isn't unlike the other Villains. When I get the Villains set I will be displaying the Queen of Hearts next to her card and this may be the only intention Lego has for including her in the CMF. Again there is reference to Ursula in the set, but she has a minifigure in another set. Not that I wouldn't mind a Alice set.
  17. Thanks @OttoRiver :) Clearly the Renaissance is winning in minifigure terms which isnl' suprising really considering it is called that precisley because if was a good era for the company. I've tried to use your list to put together what this year alone has given us. Obviously there is a wider range on shelves with the Winnie the Pooh set and others etc, but tried to see what this 100 year celebration has given us so far.
  18. Golden Age - CMF - Pinocchio, Fantasia, Snow White Sets - Villains Icons (Snow White) Package - Silver - CMF - Queen Of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) Sets - Celebration Train (Peter Pan), minidoll book (new movie), Brickheadz (Maleficent, Tinkerbell), Villains Icons (Sleeping Beauty, Alice In Wonderland) Transition - CMF - Cruella (101 Dalmations) Sets - Brickheadz (Cruella) Bronze - CMF - Robin Hood Renaissance - CMF - Pocahontas, Mulan Sets - Disney Duos (Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas), Micro Agrabah (Alladin), Villains Icons (Little Mermaid, Alladin), Royal Clamshell (Little Mermaid - new movie) Post-Renaissance - CMF - Stitch Revival - CMF - Tiana, Dr Facilier (Princess and the Frog), Baymax (Big Hero 6) Sets - Celebration Train (Moana), Disney Duos (Moana), Brickheadz (Moana) So apart from the package era which didn't really produce much of note, the CMF has covered most eras of animation, but there are very little true sets. Pixar has got the one system set, whilst the Villains Icons, Celebration Train and Castle D2C are being used to provide sets that give a wiser coverage without really tying to anything specific. That being said I wonder if we are being too optimistic hoping for more system sets like the UP house?
  19. Exactly. The thing is it's so good they must have had this plan surely? And it must have been frustrating for designers to see criticisms of the model(s) if they knew of a bigger picture. That being said, why wouldn't they try and keep it going for longer when they have revealed their master plan which shows the potential for this system? All I can think is, from what I have seen elsewhere, whilst people see the new photo and think it looks really good now, it has been revealed at a time when a lot of people have become fatigued with this system, and even the theme itself, and have very recently sold or are currently selling off this Hogwarts system. So whilst this plan might have taken a while to come to fruition and it looks great it's also kind of killed itself off slowly and this is now the last hurrah. It will be fascinating to see where it goes. However, something I feel also that does not bode well for it is the lack of small sets this year. A castle section like Polyjuice Potion, maybe representing the Final Challenge etc, could easily have been offered this year but for some reason they have stayed completely away from that price point in this theme, arguably aiming to make parents and grandparents spend more when they pick up a set for a child from a recognised theme. Then again, on the other hand maybe they don't want too many sections on the shelves at a time and when the Hospital Wing, Sirius's Rescue and Polyjuice Potion retire at the end of this year they will be replaced next year with other sets that can also either add on to this new larger model or recreate it by being of similar configurations as those sets that are retiring. That way 2024 will see the largest castle sections remain on shelves and some smaller ones to keep the connections going and then 2025 will see a new system. I honestly don't know; it's never easy to second guess Lego!
  20. Interesting thank you (hope the dentist wasn't too bad!). I presume Technic and Speed Champions won't necessarily get any Disney coverage. Buildable figures is kind of the Disney Duo set, but if the leaked concept set art from that survey is to be believed then larger buildable figures is clearly something they are thinking about and could appear this year or next. But I'm not sure they will go into Busts and the new castle D2C is basically the equivalent of the Star Wars UCS. Therefore they seem to have covered most bases and I'm really hoping that what is left is more traditional system scaled stuff. Anybody care to try and work out what coverage we've had from the different Disney animation eras e.g. Golden, Package, Silver, Transition, Bronze, Renaissance, Post-Renaissance, Revival, Streaming.
  21. I'm sure they extended the supposed retirement date of the Chamber of Secrets from end of 2023 to end of 2024 so hopefully that means they may still be thinking of adding some more. Not all the sections to make this monster model will remain on shelves until then mind you, but I think this new configuration for the sets really shows the potential this set up has.
  22. Ah I see. Told you my brain wasn't working tonight! Not that I've watched that movie in a long time. Atlantis does feel like a forgotten treasure.
  23. Ah maybe. That would be a bummer tbh. Would really like some more nostalgia rides with sets based on old films. Never watched that one that I can remember, but in the same kind of vein mine would be the Atlantis sub. As that movie never seemed to garner the same attention as others I can't see that every happening either. Good suggestion. If my brain was working properly tonight I might try and work that one out. 😆
  24. I wouldn't mind that if it's a 'Goodies' bookend to the Villains set. A detailed Rapunzel's Tower could maybe also work at that price point, but there's just so much material it's kind of wide open to guesses really.
