LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
BigGuy4U replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't think so, outside of Lego there's a lot of other recent Legends merch as already mentioned, the Old Republic MMO which is set in Legends continuity is still being supported with new content and updates, the old Legends Star Wars comic recently got a few new issues for Marvel's anniversary, the Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes app had several months straight of content from the Old Republic games a little over a year ago, and they're still pulling content from Legends for the comics and even Ep. IX. Legends is definitely still around even if it's not canon anymore, but I wouldn't expect too much from it from Lego considering how much content the current canon already has to work with, and how little EU material was represented in Lego even when it was still canon. -

Personally I welcome at the very least the $10 mechs, it's very rare that we even get Marvel sets at that price point and it's a nice way to get iconic characters at a low price if you don't want to spring for more expensive sets. -

There's no Venom mech, unless you count the one that comes with the Spiderjet. Anyway, we don't know anything about future waves yet so we don't know who it will be, if there are even going to be any more. -

I wouldn't be surprised if the real issue with "we don't get enough PT representation" is more to the effect of "we don't get enough PT sets with minifigs we want", i.e. standard clones, more Jedi, TCW characters etc. Can't say that I blame them in that regard since I want those too, doesn't help when last year's PT offerings were dominated by the Battle of Kashyyk and didn't give us much minifig variety there. -

Anakin's head is also recycled from the 2018 Starfighter, nothing about him is new. -

That would make sense and I'm hoping they do it that way since the advent calendar is the only set with a code I plan on getting anyway. Even if the codes are the only way to unlock certain things, if it's the same code in every set they'll make their way to the internet pretty fast. -

I really hope they're not in the sets if that's the only way to get them in the game. Just for a quick rundown so far, there's two characters unlocked by code (Death Star Final Duel and Advent Calendar), the Razor Crest, and the I-TS Transport. I find it hard to imagine who the Final Duel character is if it's related to the set, obviously locking Jedi Luke, Vader, or Palpatine behind buying a set in a game that's supposed to be about the entire Skywalker saga would be ridiculous. Royal Guard maybe? I could easily see the Advent Calendar character just being unlocking ugly sweater Vader or Poe in the game though. Of course, we could always get lucky and have it turn out that it's just one code per unlock rather than unique for every single set. The "7-letter code" distinction on the Advent Calendar also makes me curious, since on all the others it's just called a "secret code". -
Eh... Not bad for what they are, but wake me up when they make regular system sets. Also disappointing to hear that the interactive stickers are pre-applied to the pieces which makes some things difficult to salvage if you don't care about the game aspect, though maybe it'll be possible to remove them with some work. The enemy blind bags are a cool idea but again I just don't really like the aesthetic they're going for with the theme right now. For me the highlight is Whomp of all things, I'd say it's actually pretty much perfect compared to how it looks in-game. Banzai Bill came out really good too, although I have no idea why they decided to call them "Boomer Bill". Also surprised to see someone like King Boo appear this early in the theme, and the set itself is kind of interesting since that's actually not how the surrounding area of ghost houses typically look in the games.

The whole thing makes no sense, there doesn't seem to be any sort of consistency. Using female Twi'leks as an example, Aayla Secura and Oola have regular eyes but Hera Syndulla doesn't. It doesn't really bother me that much but I don't see the point of doing it. -

I personally think there's way too much focus on dual-molding around here, it's nice to have but not usually necessary in my opinion, at least not to the degree some people seem to think it is. That being said there are a few minifigs who I think desperately need it like silver leg C-3PO and Bossk, and to a lesser degree Scout Troopers and every Imperial officer ever. -
Personally I prefer the 2019 Clayface because he's a lot smaller, making him closer in size to minifigs and easier to deal with in general (and he has hands!). Honestly though I'd prefer a bigfig or even a minifig based on the DC Supervillains game.

I suppose that makes sense, still disappointing though. There's so much potential there yet all we get is 18 minifigs every few years and a couple extra sets thrown in here and there.- 961 replies

Is it confirmed that the Sesame Street set is getting new molds, or is that just speculation? I have to say it would be nice if the no new molds rule went away. -

At this point I don't know why we don't just have a full-fledged Disney theme instead of the occasional set drop. (Yes, I know the Disney Princess theme is just called "Disney" now, but it's so limited in scope I'd hardly say it counts)- 961 replies

Man I'd love a classic Hawkeye, I'd be surprised if we ever got him though. -
Even in the event the line ends, both DC and Marvel aren't the first time Lego's used those franchises, and Harry Potter came back too. You never know what might happen.

No worries, I think you're fine asking it here. So far there hasn't been anything said here about a minifig or other pre-order bonuses. -

I actually think Luke's hairpiece is pretty spot-on despite the age of the mold. I feel making a new mold for him would just be for the sake of making a new mold and isn't really necessary. Old Ben on the other hand would definitely benefit from switching to the hair used for TFA Han, I'm surprised they haven't done that yet. -
Yikes, I don't know what's worse, dead inside Mario or glowing Mario. I wonder how many kids he's going to end up traumatizing.

If you were 9 in 2009 you'd be either 19 or 20 now, I wouldn't exactly call that being a "kid". Either way, here we go again with the "there were lots of this set at the specific stores I go to so it must not sell at all!" anecdote. For every one of these there's a "well I had a hard time finding this set near me so it obviously sold well!" but we all know that neither of those mean anything. This conversation happened recently in the DC thread with someone who claimed the entire theme was dying for the same reasons. A single store's Lego stock means absolutely nothing, and even if you bump that number up to all the stores you regularly go to that's such a minuscule percentage of how many stores actually sell Lego. -

The highlight of this wave for me is definitely Ahsoka, would've been nice to have Rex too but a 332nd trooper is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Honestly I'm just glad we're getting fresh season 7 content at all, kind of sad that I even thought that in the first place though. Might pick up Anakin's Interceptor too. I'm surprised by the minifig selection for Soulless One, not only is Obi-Wan recycled but Grievous is as well which is contrary to what leakers have said, too bad it wasn't "no Cody" that they were wrong on instead. Not too sure how I feel about the set at this point. The others I'll have to pass on, I really don't care much about the sequel era and the Final Duel is nice but doesn't really have anything pulling me in to make it worth spending $100 on. EDIT: Forgot to address Ahsoka's lekku, yes her old piece would definitely be more accurate but it doesn't really bother me, still looks more accurate than some other minifigs like Bossk with no dual molding (yuck). -

Same here, I got into Lego Star Wars around the same time so I'm very grateful for the re-releases, and even then I've had to wait almost 4 years for iconic vehicles like the AT-AT, with still no sign of a system scale Imperial Star Destroyer. I suppose you could argue that Lego should just produce iconic sets like the Falcon or an X-Wing for longer than usual rather than doing a re-release every couple of years and only doing re-releases when they can make significant updates and improvements, but that would probably just cause us to get less sets in the long run due to production and/or shelf space. -

For the record, I believe it's already been stated that Vader's sweater has a Death Star design on it, so it's definitely a new Star Wars-based print. -
