Interesting. This makes two sets now (the other being the hospital) where I like the Friends version better, much to my surprise!

Comparison of LEGO rendering engines
DangAndBlast replied to bartneck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Neat! The eyesight one is rather impressive. At least on my phone it looks real rather than a render. -
I'd say the local LEGO store removing all sets on August 1 and removing the shelf header, and telling people they can order the last wave's sets online while they last, does suggest that Elves is done. I mean, I'd be thrilled if it remained, but I see nothing but its demise.

Elves Autumn Animals Voting
DangAndBlast replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
One point each to 5, 15, and 16. Still haven't unpacked from moving, wish I could have entered this one, as it's just up my alley! All look good :) -
Advent Calendar looks to be like last year's, the weakest of the bunch. But the hospital is great! It's flying off the shelves in my local store - I was walking around with it under my arm when two separate people came in each looking for it. There's a huge medical center here in town, which may affect demand (they can't keep the space shuttle in stock either, all the NASA people buying it!). But always good to see demand high for the larger/pricier sets. (The much-maligned puppy car set is also very popular with the littles.)

For all those asking about stairs - a higher level (either for observation/stationary seats or, on the largest, another tier of moving animals) isn't at all uncommon on larger carousels. Here's one in a mall near me:

I really like the way you've done the doorway with the curves behind it - I usually see them used as arabic-looking windows or balcony supports, but here those pieces look like a curtain swag that's caught up off to the sides of the entrance. Really imaginative!

I really like this one, especially the mechanic/garage section. Looks very true to life. -
I'm really enjoying all these. Thanks for sharing your town with us so often.

I spent hours and hours going through every set from 1989 back on brickset and then Peeron in order to figure out what that one set was we had when kids. Finally found it (on Peeron only). It's such a thrill of delight when you find it! I need to go get the directions and build it again myself - turns out it was one of those creator or classic-style build fifteen things sets (507? Not at a good searching computer now), and I remembered only the house, but it's just regular system bricks, so I'm pretty sure I could still build it :) As to OP's question: probably a big castle, though I remember wanting a big house before I switched over to Meccano around 1993 - but I haven't found evidence of any big house set in the 1980s or early 1990s, so it may well have been a MOC I saw somewhere! Either that or it was a castle my memory's turned into a house. My sister and I had that one big standard set (and, going through the bin recently, several aquanauts sets people must have given my kid brother), and just built houses over and over with it -- and now my house is full of Lego and I just build houses over and over with it :)

This one was certainly the best from that sub theme. The bike is great, of course. And it's actually a party for the animals to attend (it's a different animal's birthday, from another set), so it's a slide for the animals :)

Maybe to put scrapped builds totally away (not just in the "to be sorted" bin) before starting something new or buying something new. When you can't make what you want because the parts you want are somewhere in a mixed bin rather than nicely in their drawer, that's no good.

Too much spinning! I feel dizzy! Rather hard to watch when it won't stop spinning around. From what I could tell, though, it's a nicely composed scene.

(My first time posting, rather than replying, so apologies if I do it wrong.) After lots of sets, lots of following online instructions with my own bin of bricks, and lots of random freebuilds with my kidlet, I've made my first ever real MOC - a scene of the Friends girls off to church at Christmas. The stained glass I've seen around, but had no idea how to do it, so it's rather unsteady - just slotted inside the archway at the top and held in by tension alone, with 1x2 clear plates between the window frames at the back. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, overall. Lego Episcopal church at Christmas, with Advent candles lit (three purple, one pink). My first ever MOC of more than small furniture. by Marguerite Radhakrishnan, on Flickr (I know my photography needs work, and I wish I'd squeezed those top bricks a bit more before the photo!) How do I know it's an Episcopal church and not a Catholic one? Because the closest thing to priest-appropriate garments was Mia's tuxedo. So, Mia's the officiant! Emma and Naomi are enjoying the service. by Marguerite Radhakrishnan, on Flickr

*American* Thanksgiving comes after Halloween. Canadian Thanksgiving comes before.

Seeing all the complaints about a picnic in February being unrealistic... It was 82°F in Houston, Texas yesterday. Pushing too *warm* for a pleasant picnic. So I suppose maybe mid February is a bit too late in the year for a nice picnic So glad they're back to vignettes.

Got the Disney castle bought for me :) .... which leads me to wonder - am I the only one who gets gifts and feels a bit sad the buyer didn't also use my VIP info to get me the points as well? I mean, that would be an extra $35 or $75USD (depending on purchase date) of free Lego...

I will say, Palace Pets is probably my four year old's favorite theme, though I could do without it! :) Guess she's the target market! I'm with you on favorite theme and best sets of all sizes, though.
