LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
jdubbs replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Perhaps 75217 is a Rebels spoiler set, which is why it is grayed out, and why it's only on the shelves for a limited time, given the show is ending... in which case it would clearly not be a V-whatever Torrent. It would be a fairly large set for Rebels, given there was only one small set for the show last year. Another possibility is that 75217 is only early retirement in whatever region the leaked catalog shots were created for. Certain sets, such as the Rebels A-Wing/Vader TIE set, retired in Europe several months ahead of the US. (I assumed that was due to poor sales at the time, but perhaps it was by design?) And stock of Winter Village sets seems to run out in England right around Christmas, whereas in the US they're available more or less year-round. -

I think it's a combination of things... 1) The Clone Wars ran longer on regular TV, with longer seasons (5 full seasons plus a movie plus the Lost Missions, versus Rebels, with only 4 seasons, which were all shorter) 2) The Clone Wars was more widely-embraced by fans (versus Rebels, which a significant portion of fans dislike) 3) The Clone Wars was pretty much the only Star Wars entertainment at the time (versus Rebels, which has to compete with a new movie every year) 4) The Clone Wars is still available on Netflix, which is increasingly the preferred/only means of watching shows for younger generations (versus Rebels, which is only on Disney/DVD) 5) Set selection by LEGO was sometimes a bit questionable for Rebels, which probably contributed to poor sales more than any of the above. -

Also, according to the leaked catalog pages, the set that is supposedly the V-19 Torrent (or V-Wing Torrent, or whatever the set description calls it) is a short-run set, only on shelves until Dec (similar to Advent calendar). I have to question whether LEGO would spend the money developing 3 new new molds for a set that's only sold for a few months. By comparison, the entire first wave of TLJ had something like 5 new molds, total... -
The ghosts would make a lot more sense in the Hogwarts D2C, to my eyes. And LEGO has made sets of Privet Drive before, which would be logical places to include the Dursleys.

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

For my part, LEGOscum, I didn't mean to imply that you were cribbing from other sources. It's sometimes difficult to know where information originates when it appears everywhere nearly at once. I tend to assume that wherever I see it first is the first place it appears, but that's obviously not always the case. -
This looks so much more cohesive as a building... I too like the 3-story variant a bit better. I guess the only downside is that this would probably fit in with other modulars even less, since it doesn't have the older-style architecture as a bridge to them.

LEGO could probably make a separate CMF for each of the 7 books. They won't, but they could. Focusing this CMF on the first book or two makes sense, since that book is the most widely-read and features a lot of iconic characters that appear in other books/movies as well. It also helps give the characters included a common theme since they could otherwise feel too disjointed, if characters from books 4-7 were mixed in. And it leaves the door open for additional CMF lines if the first one is successful.

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
jdubbs replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Brickshow has been reliable of late... they seem to have developed a new source from which they obtained advance photos for a few lines of sets. That said, this leak doesn't appear to be from the same source. It sounds like the set descriptions (only, not photos) were sent anonymously to both Rebel Scum and Brickshow (or one of them, and the other cut-and-pasted). The information posted on both sites was near-identical, and neither site mentioned seeing the sets themselves. Most of what I've seen Rebel Scum post about LEGO has appeared elsewhere first, so I don't know how many unique sources they have. -
I don't think we'll see a new AT-TE any time soon. The Rebels one is still too recent, and there are other walker-type vehicles that need releases first (AT-AT and AT-ACT). Jabba's Palace has a faux-controversy associated with it which may or may not prevent it from seeing a reissue. TIE Interceptor and Bomber are most likely, but not for another year... One or more of the TIE Striker, TIE Silencer and forthcoming TIE Fighter need to go away first. I would guess the TIE Interceptor gets released first, since it would be cheaper and there are more slots for cheap sets. TIE Bomber would be $120+ if scaled to match the other TIEs. (TIE Striker was basically Β½ of the Bomber, at $70).

Kylo has already been released in a microfighter at this point, so I think any premium value that LEGO might have assigned to him is gone now. I don't think this list is real β at all β but I do think Kylo and Rey would both be included in whatever this set ends up being. -

I would like to see more Rogue One sets too, but there are only a few more vehicles they can make β both very large β and location-based sets are few-and-far-between, even for current movies. The Imperial Cargo Shuttle won't get released while there are two other shuttles still on shelves, and the AT-ACT won't get released with another walker (plus 2 scout walkers and that heavy scout walker) also on shelves. I think our best bet for another Rogue One set is this fall, once one or both of the shuttles retire. -
Nice MODs, and nice photography, too. Portrait mode? Or do you have a tilt-shift lens?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
jdubbs replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I wouldn't even put it in the class of the Haunted Mansion. At least that set is a complete 4-sided building. The Sanctum Santorum is just the facade of two adjacent buildings... it's no more compatible with modulars than Arkham Asylum. -
None of the previous HP sets (which were 7+ years ago) at that price point had nearly that many figs. None of today's other licensed sets at that price point do either. Sounds a lot like someone's wishlist turned into a "leak". (I'd be happy to be wrong... but I think we should all take this with a huge helping of salt until someone corroborates it.)

14 minifigs in an $80 set? That doesn't sound legit.

Another potential license just occurred to me for the Mystery D2C: Goonies. Could be One-Eyed Willy's pirate ship + boobytraps. Seems less likely given the PotC ship still has another year on the market, and I'd still prefer Hogwarts first, but it's a possibility. I think this is actually the most compelling evidence there is for this set being Hogwarts: there are definitely people who know what the set is and for whatever reason can't confirm its identity... but there'd be nothing stopping from them saying what it isn't, and yet no one has come forward saying, "It's not Hogwarts".

I think someone's wishlist has morphed into a rumor, either deliberately or by the game of telephone that we call The Internet. There are only 4 non-UCS set numbers unaccounted for through August, and those will likely be more Solo and TLJ sets, since we've only had 1 or 2 waves for each of those movies. I guess there could be another fall wave we don't yet know about... maybe there is more to the October wave than the Advent calendar, or a December wave again, or more retailer exclusives. The supposed dropship could also be from Solo, since there has been leaked artwork of ships that could fit that description. -
Just wait until Amazon gets its LotR series on the air (or... on the WiFi?) That thread is going to explode... all the old speculation and wish-listing will get rehashed once again. (Can't wait!)

Yeah, I was aware of that, but there are still one or two existing licenses in the LEGO basement that could fill the slot. Could be Barad-dΓΌr, for instance. (I don't think it is, and for the record I think Hogwarts is far and away most likely, but anything is possible.) LEGO skips numbers all the time. Would be nice to get 7, but wouldn't count on it.

Rumors of HP sets/CMF began in August (see first page of this thread). Of course everyone speculated about how Hogwarts would be handled, and I'm sure many of us hoped for a UCS-size D2C set... whether you'd call that rumors or just wishing is up to you. I do know that the idea really gained traction after the "licensed IP D2C" listing was revealed. Agree that it's hard to imagine what else it could be, assuming it's not an existing license like Marvel. And given that the first wave of regular HP sets is pretty small, it would make more sense accompanied by a D2C set and CMF line.

That's an interesting idea! With different minifigs so we're compelled to buy both, of course.

Cost is another factor for me, and probably for others as well. Anyone who wasn't collecting modulars when Market Street came out also missed out on Cafe Corner and Green Grocer, which are β to me at least β much more iconic (and aesthetically appealing) modulars. If I'm going to shell out money to buy any of those at insane aftermarket prices, it's going to be for CC or GG.

It looks like it's slightly more than half of the structure... basically a facade plus a little more to make the top look complete. To me, the bigger issue is the color... seems like it should have been much darker since in-movie is basically all dark brown on the outside? -
It's been gone since Brick Friday (in the US, at least) which is a long time for a set to be out of stock and then come back (excepting the UCS Falcon, of course).
