Believe that time is now. At least, at Walmart. -

In the US, the $100+ sets rarely if ever see discounts in the first 3-6 months of release. I suspect LEGO stipulates this in retailer contracts, as it seems to be the case across most lines. -

I think most collectors recognize that updates/re-releases of existing sets are going to happen, and in some cases welcome them. The issue that most of us have is when the same sets get re-issued over and over, whereas other ships/locations have only seen one release (or none). Those who didn't pick up the AT-AP or Droid Gunship a few years ago are of course excited at a second chance, but there are ships that haven't been touched in 10-15 years, and are either so dated that they're not worth owning, or so expensive that they're out of most buyers's reach. I'd personally rather see those get new builds first. -

U-Wing: very unlikely. UCS Resistance X-Wing: fairly likely. System X-Wing: only if itβs in episode 9 (but it would be different, since Poeβs was destroyed in TLJ). -

That's wishlisting as well. FWIW, was being tongue-in-cheek, not wishlisting. -

If LEGO ever did a Jedi Temple, it wouldn't be 4782 pieces. More like 1000 (if we're lucky) or 500 (utterly disappointing, but the most likely scenario). Nor, I think, would a playset come so soon after Cloud City... one playset every two years is more the norm. I could maybe see it being Jabba's Sail Barge (which LEGO could market as a hybrid playset/display piece, with lots of interior/action/play features). But at 4782 pieces it would be enormous, several times larger than the last System set, which was already pretty big. I'd bet we don't see another playset until 2020, and at that point my money is on either the Sail Barge (at closer to 3000 pieces) or an Endor Bunker, given the success of the Ewok Village and how long it's been since we've had anything Endor. Imperial Star Destroyer seems the most likely candidate if the piece count is accurate. I doubt most people would spend $500 on anything other than that. -

"Hard to Find" is used for large D2C sets that were originally LEGO Shop exclusives (typically the first 3 months of availability) and are now available at select big-box retailers like ToysRUs, Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc. It is not an indication that sets are retiring soon, as these sets are usually available for 2+ years. That said, the Slave I has outlasted several UCS sets that were introduced after it; as such it likely won't last more than another year. In the US, the Snowspeeder is the only set I've seen get the Retiring Soon label in the last year. The US website used to apply it to older sets in their last 2-3 months of availability but it's now become the exception to the rule. (Your mileage may vary; the UK shop may still be applying it semi-regularly.) I assume the Snowspeeder got the Retiring Soon label either because they wanted to warn buyers that it is retiring early so as not to be caught off guard (since most UCS sets are sold for 2 or more years, and this one is retiring after 18 months) or because its sales were so bad that they needed the label to help push stock out the door. -

There is supposed to be a Hoth-themed set at around $50-60 coming that I would assume includes a snow speeder, though I don't know for sure. 3 rebels + 1 snowtrooper, so Rebellion-oriented. Could be just trenches, etc., but at that price I would expect a vehicle for play value. -

Donβt forget the microfighter, sandspeeder, and two UCS models! And I hate to say it, but It looks like there is another System snowspeeder coming in March (and a Naboo Starfighter microfigher in January, of course). -

I also would have preferred almost anything other than those two RotS sets. It kills me that LEGO insists on re-releasing near identical builds of the same vehicles every 3-4 years (Landspeeder, anyone?) when there are so many sets that last saw releases 10+ years ago. AotC and RotS are especially lopsided in their representation, and these two sets don't help at all. I get that kids like Jedi Starfighters, but if there's yet another one in the 2019 lineup I'm going to lose my mind. -

When I first saw the leaked pics I thought as you do. Similar profile and color scheme, and a ship that Iβm not that interested in to begin with. But comparing the official pictures of the new set with the old set, I was much more impressed by the new build. A lot more detail throughout, making the old build look pretty dated and clumsy, side by side. Versus the walker which just seems like minor changes for the sake of changing things. But, youβre entitled to your opinion of course. Just saying it might be worth a closer look. -

To clarify, Iβve been told a price, not a piece count... I extrapolated that comment about several hundred more pieces based on past modulars. Iβm not sure where the police station idea is coming from or why it keeps coming up. Probably because a post office, police station, and train station appear on wishlists every year, despite them all being problematic in one way or another. Iβve been told itβs a mixed-use corner building with a body shop/service station type garage on the bottom and 1 or 2 other establishments above. Someone here mentioned a vet which might be the case, but I would guess an apartment since there wasnβt one in DD. Any or all of this could be wrong. -

Sorry, I thought the pricing became public when the set identity did. I donβt know that Iβm allowed to repeat it, but if you read my above comment then you should have a rough idea. Suffice to say itβs more than the typical $10 annual bump, from what Iβve heard. -

Moving on... Given the price of this modular, itβs safe to say there will be several hundred more pieces than the DD. So I would guess it includes multiple vehicles (tow truck plus a car or two?) or a taller/more complex build. -

At least the Droid Gunship got a meaningful upgrade to the build. The walker is near-identical to the last release. -

The US website stopped applying the Retiring Soon indicator to sets (with a few odd exceptions) a year or so ago. -

There is a large number of sets that retire at the end off every year. Same thing happened last year and the year before. The US website, with a few exceptions, no longer uses the "Retiring Soon" flag. -

The design is similar, but noticeably different from the RotJ biker scout helmet. I really doubt LEGO would use the clone scout helmet for OT scout troopers; it would not go over well if they did. -

I think it's very likely that one or both of these ships will be see better/updated sets released in the next year or two. These were very early UCS sets designed before many modern building techniques were common and SNOT/specialized parts were available, and they relied on the use of rubber bands, magnets, etc. to stay together... which many owners have reported to fail over time. If it were me, I would pass. I forget the exact details, but I believe there were two box designs due to a flood at a warehouse storing the sets, which necessitated a reprint of the boxes. -

They most definitely compete in the same market. Adults choose between Hasbro and LEGO constantly... whether buying toys for their kids or for their own collections. From what I've seen there's a pretty substantial overlap between adults who collect the Black Series/Vintage Collection and adults who collect LEGO (myself included). And kids (who are after all, the target market for both companies) make the same choices with their weekly allowance, birthday money, etc. -

Yeah, you would think... But Hasbro recently launched a line of 1.5" figures in blind bags that I can't help but think is a defensive measure against potential LEGO CMFs... so that they can say, "Look, we have a product that competes directly with what LEGO wants to do; this is our turf". It looks like they're even doing an advent calendar with them, which is right up LEGO's alley. I think the bigger question is whether LEGO actually wants to do a Star Wars CMF (or wants to do it badly enough to pay additional licensing for it, at a time when SW toys aren't selling as well and LEGO is still rebounding from a weak year). They may feel that a CMF would cannibalize sales of the regular Star Wars sets, or that they have enough licensed CMFs in the pipeline, that's it not worth the bother. -

Their current license runs through 2020, last I read. Which means it will probably get renegotiated by early next year. If LEGO is so inclined, they will press Disney to create an exception for them to release standalone minifigures, but it's not a foregone conclusion that a) they would want to and b) that Disney (or Hasbro) would agree to this.
