[MOC] Northern Pacific A4 4-8-4 #2678
Jeffinslaw replied to thesnoqualmieroute's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looking forward to seeing the Z8! I went through and redid my version a few months ago. I have the parts sitting in a bag... haven't had a chance to build it yet. -
Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system

Michael Gale has stated he won't be doing that. However, there is something in the works from me. Money is tied up in other projects but I am working on them. See here. -
Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system
Jeffinslaw replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have been working on exactly this. It has taken a back seat to other things from my business such as instructions and getting injection molded accessories for custom minifigures done but the custom power pickup wheel sets will be next. I discussed this with Michael Gale last year at BrickWorld and he thought it was great as it provides another option and doesn't clash with his product. If you want to see more. -
The "team" is now just a one man operation and like other shop owners, including myself, work full time. However, 6-8 weeks without any correspondence is pretty rough...

[MOC] Nickel Plate Road S-2 2-8-4 763
Jeffinslaw replied to Glenn Holland's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thank you! I believe the dual IR receivers was due to them not being the V2 IR receivers. The V2 IR receivers can withstand the higher current draw of the two L motors. I personally don't use the IR receivers as I prefer the Sbrick. - Jeffery -
[MOC] Nickel Plate Road S-2 2-8-4 763

The difference shouldn't be that noticeable. I've been using the opposing L motors in a few engines of my own with zero issues. - Jeffery -

Can you host them on Imgur? That picture is maybe 100 pixels by 60 pixels. -
That's pretty well done! Proportions look pretty good. Unfortunately, I think the coloring is pretty far off... the top half of the engine was not a grey color like you have. Looks almost like a "grey goose" I'd encourage you to re-do the top half in a closer matched color. This engine is on my list to do as a personal build so I'm happy to see someone has attempted it. As for the hose bending in studio: it has gotten better. With the large amount of clips you have on the model, it makes it easier as it allows you to rotate and move nodes in the hose using arrow keys and WASD, respectively.

Do we have any updates on designs for ballasting the switches? -Jeff -
Looks like an interesting rabbit hole to go down this afternoon! I do think this ends on it being a 32bit application issue though. -Jeff
-
Thank you for that bit of information. Sadly, didn't work for me. Apple has killed support for 32 bit applications as of recent so BlueBrick still won't run. Not sure if Michael Gale is looking but having an issue ordering from his site... getting a message stating: "This order can’t be shipped to the address you entered. Review your address to ensure that all fields have been entered correctly and try again." Have ordered from him in the past so idk what's up. -Jeff -

A review of the first elements from the FX Track system
Jeffinslaw replied to zephyr1934's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks like prices were posted incorrectly. The smart bogie was expected to be priced around $100. Michael Gale never specified a price for the switches but said it would be “much less than $100.” - Jeff- 199 replies

My Updated Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" Model
Jeffinslaw replied to Jeffinslaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'll have to check it out, thanks! I am partial to the modified plates with handle and closed ends. I do still wish to retain a little bit of LEGO-ness to the model. I may revisit this part though... thank you for the comments!! Thank you! Appreciate the kind words. Thank you very much! -Jeffinslaw -
My Updated Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" Model
Jeffinslaw replied to Jeffinslaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Both correct! It takes some serious time to create the flex tubing in LDCad and then exporting it into Studio. It will be done eventually. Just not ready to fight with that just yet. I have several to to as well: left and right main hand rails redo left and right hand rails for the pilot truck there is a U shaped handrail that goes over the front of the headlight some other L shaped hoses that come down from the boiler to underneath the cab Thanks for the comments guys!! -
Posted with Moderator approval Hey guys! I am super happy to present my latest steam engine MOC! It is an update of my original Big Boy model. This version has been completely reworked from the ground up with the idea in mind of what a museum quality/collector piece of the real life Big Boy would look like when modeled in LEGO. I will let you guys decide if I achieved that goal! Some of the updated features of this build are: correct boiler diameter with correct boiler expansion and contraction as you move back towards the cab strength improvements to the boiler/drive train accurately modeled details such as boiler backend, piping, and valve gear a display stand for the model when not running it on a layout Remaining pieces have been ordered for my test build. Should be arriving late this week, early next and will have it built soon. Expect lots of videos once it is complete! How about some pictures? Would love to hear all of your comments/thoughts on the model whether positive or negative! Finally, you will be able to purchase this model as a full kit. Featured in the kit is: all of the brand new LEGO pieces required high quality and highly detailed printed instructions decals printed directly to bricks display stand with UCS style plaque two custom printed minifigures all custom pieces needed (battery box, train control method of choice, 3D printed drivers and side rods) lights and sound from BrickStuff and Fx Bricks, respectively (available as add-ons) Kit can be pre-ordered from my site at: http://www.pnwsteamshop.com - Jeffinslaw

One thing people seem to miss is that these speed regulators can also be used by the GBC community. I'm not in that community but they buy up the old 9V style speed regulators in droves.
