Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Muakhah replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Please don't get me wrong. I definitely would not promote clone brands or other companies over Lego. I sincerely hope for Lego's continued success and hope to live to see a new castle line. -
That temple is a very good buy. I would recommend it to anyone really. I agree with everyone that I should have found a way to reduce the lip height. I'll make sure it isn't in future builds. The base seems to get worse everytime I look at it. I just wanted to build something! The asian themed stuff in Historica seems mostly to be concentrated in Eastern Kaliphlin (near to Khadira) and some parts of Nocturnas i think. I am basing that on Exetrius' builds of Zotharith I think. So to me it seems that that region would see the most cultural spread. Glad you liked the merchant stall. I will have to try and put together some larger market scenes in the future. Thanks @Grover

Besil and Bernando are my favorite of the two. They couldn't be more different. I love the statue waiting for the final touches. Also the expression on Bernando's face is perfect. As Kaliphlin is not as settled politically as other guilds at the moment, there could be opportunities for adventures for Bernaldo there. I can imagine the exasperated father sending him to spend some time with the Knights of Aslan in order to get the adventuring out of his system and learn some discipline and devotion.

Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately google.docs don't work in China and I don't have a vpn... is it possible someone could message them to me or email them somehow? I want to do a few little builds for lore purposes but don't want to muck up previous lore. Especially because the Desert King is a contentious topic. I have seen several people mistakenly place him as on Ravaage's side in the civil wars, despite his early pledge to support the resistance and call to arms to fight Ravaage. Ark Mora Ra is really the victim of bad propaganda! -

I thought I saw something that prohibited it for Challenges. Does this include HSS? As a piece that Lego doesn't produce it fills a nice gap. 90% + of the pieces are straight copies of lego bricks though. The bricks do not hold together as well as proper lego. I think that company also has different horses and minifigs but essentially the core stuff is just copied...sigh. I was going to make a list of questions based on the Kaliphlin Civil war story builds and results. I remember seeing a post saying that over 300 pages of Lore had been archived somewhere. I can't find that post now and wanted to check to see if it answered the questions I have or raised more. Does anyone know where I can find it? Searches for Historica and Lore bring up a lot of results... -

Those pieces are from a Korea Lego copier. A friend got me one of their sets when they heard I liked lego. I am trying to sift through it and keep bricks that are actually not lego designs while giving the others away to kids. I think the company was called Oxford toys and it was an arc de triumph set. Their design, but bricks are mostly copies of lego pieces with a few exceptions. Being in China its amazing how many copies of lego sets are around. They all seem tempting but you can almost feel the quality difference in the plastic by touch. Anyway that particular piece I hadn't seen elsewhere and thought it looked middle easterny. I can swap it out for other things if needed. -
Now the story is really warming up and looking good! I hope to hear more of Conrad’s transition to a stone cold killer. The execution posing and blood was very well done. The prison and mercenary camp are both charming in their way. Especially touches like the mercy playing cards.

That fireplace made me stop and stare too! The wall effect looks really good from the right distance. Up close it can look like the gaps are a little big, but the cobble path, greenery and the details of the shop itself are brilliant and draw the eye. I know I have the pieces to recreate that inkwell somewhere!

Muakhah Adil, Master of Khadira and Chosen of Mazadar is ready to spread the word and tip the scales in the eternal cosmic struggle twixt good and evil. He seeks to develop his town of Khadira (currently a hamlet ) spread the word of Mazadar and seek diplomatic solutions to the ongoing strife within Kaliphlin. OOC: I would have given him a white cloak too but I don't have one... -
Thanks! I think Kaliphlin and Nocturnas have the most diversity. Thanks again! I think small builds are the way to go for me as I have yet to put down roots and have a dedicated work area. Everything has to go back on the top of wardrobes at the end of each lego time! I also lack a good photo spot. At least when I was in Paris the setup of the apartment and the light was a little better... Cheers! I am glad people like the concept. The problem is more that the lego I have here is in desperate need of organising and sorting. There is enough to build nice things its just finding it and organising it better. I always try and have something angled a bit, glad that the detailing helped add a bit too it too. I know what you mean about the roof. Unfortunately the combination of slopes and the width of the build meant that it had to be 2 wide at the base but not at the top. It does look pretty wierd. If I had the right bricks I would make it flat and put a gutter or decoration along the rim instead. As for the base...I hate that shade of gray and found much better colors to use afterwards. I agree I should have looked at reducing the hight of the "Rim" of the base. As for the brown tiles...they were there to cover up studs that enabled the landscape to lock into the frame. And what did I find after I posted the pictures...gray tiles which would have blended much better. Thanks, as mentioned Kaliphlin seems to be one of the most diverse guilds for building styles. Its just a matter of making it work. The roof idea I simply copied from the Temple of Airjitsu set. It works nicely though I still need to work on improving it a bit. Thanks! I either build the frame and think what I can build inside it or build the main draw of the vignette (in this case the house) and then work out how big the frame needs to be. I find it helps keep it more organised in my head (because its not like my lego is organised at all!) Thanks Basilicus! I think the roof turned out ok. A good first effort with room for improvement. Glad you like the contrast of the floors. If I could do the base over I would replace the hated Avalonian Gray...and yes the brown tiles draw the eye which was not the intention at all... Thanks everyone for the comments and tips for improvement. I would just like to say thank you to the Eurobricks/Guilds of Historica community for always been supportive and constructive of builders like myself. Thanks again!

Only just looked at this and the door itself is wonderful and looks like a real, paneled door made to look good and be strong. The cliffwork is really nice too and it works very well as an introduction, hinting at what lies beneath.

New build for Khadira. I will also look at updating my Sigfig. The good news about having the other half of my collection is that we will actually see Muakhah. -
When the wave of Nocturnan refugees crossed the border during the war against Ravaage, they brought with them new styles of clothing, food and entertainment. They also had an influence on the new buildings of Khadira. This business has a repaired stone lower story with a wooden and lacquer upper storey. The Red and Black are typical Nocturnan colors for this kind of construction. This building has become a massage parlor, or so the owners claim. With so many refugees in the city some turn to desperate sources of income. The authorities have turned a blind eye during the wars but now that there is a High Queen upon the throne they may seek to investigate the premises. Masseuses try to attract potential customers from the balcony. A potential customer? Or merely a curious onlooker? This being Kaliphlin, any patch of shade quickly gets snatched up by traders and market stalls. It remains to be seen whether businesses like this will be allowed to function, suffer regulations and inspections or simply be closed down as order reasserts itself across the land. OOC: So you can see why I will never criticise other's photography eh? In a different country with a different half of my collection. Had a look at what could be pulled off and thought that a Nocturnan inspired business would fit in. Thought about the general situation, My pieces and what could be represented with them and thought of this "Scarlet House". I may try photoshop in the future but I mainly want tot build and share. I will look into getting a better background than a dog diaper though... I hope to build a few small pieces and slowly work on Khadira. I guess for HSS this would count as Hospitality - Entertainers?

This is really shaping up to be an amazing and large scale shipyard. Am I right in thinking this is in Peregrinus? Also I would be curious about where you stand on the Political situation in Kaliphlin. Can't wait to see the finished piece! -
Challenge 1: The Far East Guard Tower (Mitgardia)
Muakhah replied to A_Goodman's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really like the trees with the white bark and red leaves. Is that a type of birch or beech? I can never remember. -
I like this, I like that Historica is a land with many beliefs. Can we get a pic of the priest from the front though?
-
This concept just fits Mitgardia so well.

This is a really nice sturdy looking manor house. The roof and the angel carving over the door are my favorites. But the details of the gardens, the digging up roots, clearing the pond and pruning the vines are what bring it to life. My only question would be is there any way to cover the door from inside? I presume there are murder holes or something concealed in the giant archway?
-
As a small vignette it captures the restoration very well. You'll just have to make a finished version too if you aren't happy with this one! I like it and the only advice I could give would be what someone told me for one of my builds, maybe cluster the different green together so it looks like new growth in a patch rather than sticking out on its lonesome. I haven't made anything in a year but little builds like this show me I have no excuse for my laziness so well done!

I'm never going to criticise anyone elses photography because mine has always been terrible... What I really like about this castle is the textures that fit together but are subtly different which makes it look like different parts were built/repaired at slightly different times. The texturing on and in the walls is great, especially the arches built into the wall. I also like the custom portcullis!

CHALLENGE I: Rebuilding the City Wall
Muakhah replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really like the medieval crane, stone cutting and carpentry. As others have said it really looks bustling. I love the addition of quicklime! My only query is that quicklime is very dangerous and can burn skin and eyes easily. I recently visited a tiny coastal hamlet and they built the quicklime oven on a cliff stack completely seperate from the rest of the village. Maybe some protection or something for those working with it? I has also head about Guedolon as a living history project and would love to go and visit it. As for the build it is a little plain but you have done an excellent job with the pieces and colors you have. I like the fact that the walls are built atop a natural small cliff. I like that the angle of the cliff and distance from the walls means it wouldn't provide cover for attackers but would be a formidable obstacle for siege towers. -
Khadira - Kaliphlin Khadira is a settlement in the far east of Kaliphlin. Where a river flows into the sea very close to the borders of Nocturnas. REQ - Agriculture - Grains & Produce: Irrigation ditches and gullies Agriculture - Livestock: Nautical: REQ - Military: Khadiran Barracks Religious:Temple and Garden (Mazadar) Medical: Hospitality: Street Food REQ - Hospitality - Lodging: REQ - Laborers: Adobe Makers REQ - Craftsmen - General Goods: Craftsmen/Merchant - Arms & Armor: Craftsmen/Merchant - Clothing: Craftsmen/Merchant - Specialty: Flower Sellers Services: Scholars: Entertainers: Scarlet House of Khadira Administrative (Town or City only): Council Chamber Reading through the Guidelines at the start some of these may not be acceptable to count towards a settlement. Just let me know and I will remove them. Also can I find out whether a Specialty Craftsmen/Merchant counts towards the Minimum requirements as a General Goods one. Is it that you can have any Craftsmen/Merchant or must it be the specific type?

Simple, yet extremely practical looking ship that can easily be imagined as a warship or trading vessel. It is always great to see ships like this.

This is such a beautiful temple. It makes me really envious as I wish I had one of those green domes. It really shows the grandeur of Kaliphlin and the Aslanic order, the importance of religion in people's lives and the multi-cultural nature of kaliphlin. It really looks like a living, breathing temple to a higher power.

I like this origin story and look forward to seeing how he becomes a mercenary.
