  1. It could be that you built it very carefully and almost frictionless the first time, so that the friction between the clutch gear and the driving ring was enough to drive the crane even though it was in neutral. This happened to me when I built the 42043 Arocs, It started tipping the bed whenever I turned the motor on. I just pushed one of the gears against a liftarm and suddenly the behaviour stopped.
  2. Thanks for all the replies, I think my best bet is to use the small wheel hub 6571. Hopefully you'll see what I'm using it for in another thread :)
  3. Well that is certainly a keeper then :) Are those system parts using the same ball diameter as technic parts? If so they might solve my problem.
  4. I've thought of using those, I actually own two from my power puller set :) Just out of curiosity, how expensive are they?
  5. Sadly way too big and out o scale :(
  6. Sorry if there already is a thread for these types of questions, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. After Appie posted his awesome tiny bulldozer I started pondering on building a small wheel loader. The trouble is that I can't seem to find a small ball cup part that works with the 6628 ball-pin. Is there any part smaller than the 6055628 4m beam apart from the old flex cable ends?
  7. Lovely 787b, too bad it doesn't brap brap at idle like the real one ;) My absolute favourite race car of all times!
  8. Sweet, can't wait to see the final version :) I really like these old machines, my father has had his 641 since it was new in '76 :) 6k hours later it's still running like clockwork apart from a leaking water pump that needs to be fixed.
  9. Nice work, would really like to the the finished version. The low and slanting bonnet makes it look more like a 218 than a 620, just saying ;) Have you made the parallell-thingy work? I don't know what it's called in English, but the mechanism that jeeps the bucket level while lofting amd lowering. Mad props if you manage to make room for a pneumatic bucket attacher as well :D
  10. I have pretty much decided on the 42043, (I asked just before you) because: A) it seems to contain a little bit of everything, both pf, pneumatics, gearbox, suspension and panels, in a compact model. B) the other sets will be available longer, since they are newer. Of course it's up to you to decide, but I made my decision on those grounds.
  11. So... I've pretty much given up on my TC10 entry, finding that my lack of parts is holding me back from building what I want. I know that bricklink can solve this problem, but I don't feel like spending hundreds of euros on loose parts when I can buy a set and just build it. I'm having trouble choosing though, and I would like some advice on which set to buy. First of all I'm a sucker for tractors, loaders, excavators and the like. I also have a soft spot for pneumatics, so I've considered the 42053 volvo ew160. I'm just wondering if it's better to buy the 42043 mb arocs, since I practically have nothing else to build with, and it gets me almost 3 times the parts for less than double the price of the 42053 + 8293 to motorize it. I've looked at the 42054 Claas too, which seems to be an interesting build even though there's no pneumatics. So which of the 3 sets would you buy? In Sweden they cost around: 42053 + 8293: €100+€35 42054: €150 42043: €190 Respectively. I dont mind getting other recommended sets, just keep in mind that I'm not interested in building car replicas or the like. I want a model with functions and interesting technical solutions, preferably jammed in a compact model. :)
  12. Nice build, I was thinking along the same lines after abandoning my trailer project. I suppose there's nothing stopping me from doing my version, it is actually quite different from yours. Have you tried dealing with something dangerous that may attack at any time yet? Would love to see it in action crushing a peanut or something. Model clay might be hard to clean off the press...
  13. Sorry to interrupt your question, but is that even possible? In theory you would push the same air to and from the cylinder with every revolution of the engine. The pressure would oscillate between negative and positive pressure, relative to atmospheric pressure, but the net sum of pressure would be close to zero. Even if it is or isn't allowed in the competition I would like to see if you can manage to create vacuum with a properly working pneumatic cylinder.
  14. The rules state: Only one entry per member. Does that mean you're stuck with your project once you've created the discussion topic or when you've actually made the entry-post? I'm wondering since my project got way too expensive and I've got a smaller and hopefully better one in mind.
  15. Those look good, but you can fit at least four hoses in the same space using string or cable ties. Just sayin...
  16. Right, I'll have to find a way to do it with lego then. I was just wondering since it would look better with cable ties. Sure, a lego solution might bring more votes, but I think I'm way in over my head if I'm trying to win. After seeing brilliant ideas like the flight sim I believe my trailer will look boring and too simple among the more unusual ideas. I don't mind participating though, since the contest inspired me to start designing and building again :)
  17. Hi, I'm back again with another rules related question. The rules clearly state that 3rd party string is allowed, but how about small cable ties to tidy up the pneumatic hoses? If they aren't allowed, may I tie the hose with string instead?
  18. I haven't used the v2 pneumatics, but the old ones worked fine raising and lowering things. You just need some practice in handling the controls, the switches are not just on/off like buttons for electric motors. If you've ever driven a real wheel loader it's pretty much the same deal, if you open the hydraulic valves fully the bucket drops like a stone. I've read that the newer pneumatic switches are stiffer than the old, so it might be harder to partially open the valves.
  19. Thanks for the replies, it looks like I'm spending a bunch of money on pneumatics soon... The first purchase is always the hardest, you never know what to expect buying stuff over the internet.
  20. So... I've talked to customer service now, the only thing they can source are fully assembeled cylinders, and they are long out of production. They told me to go buy "new" ones from bricklink/brickowl. Have anyone here at EB ever managed to fix broken seals? Is it possible to replace the original seal with an O-ring? I really don't feel like buying 3 cylinders that might well be broken from some guy through bricklink...
  21. I agree that the idea is nowhere near new or innovative, but then again neither are excavators or wheel loaders for that matter. If I were to build some kind of truck it would be compared with the 42043 arocs. As I've recently returned to building lego and my collection is fairly small, I figured I'd keep it pretty basic but functional and focus on a high quality moc rather than some 15-function behemoth of a digger that would cost me a fortune to build. My other idea was to make a hook-lift system that could unload the bed, but that would end up with a single pneumatic cylinder amd no way of making the tailgate open automatically. I hope this at least explains the choices I've made, there's still time amd nothing says that I won't try to incorporate more functions later in the project. The pneumatic support seems like a good idea for example I'll make sure to buy some extra cylinders ans switches when I get to ordering parts on bricklink. As for the project, right now I'm waiting for a reply from LEGO, to see if they can provide spare seals for my old pneumatic cylinders. After I've repaired them I'm building my 8459 loader so I've got something to pull the trailer.
  22. Good to hear, I emailed customer service at Lego and we'll see if they can help me out.
  23. So... I finally got one of mine open. I found some old yellow grease inside and I'm starting to wonder if that has been there all the time or if I've tried to fix them before... It looks and smells like regular grease, is there any specific property (color?) to silicone grease? Anyhow, the top seal is really dry, I'm amazed it hasn't crumbled to pieces yet. It's no ordinary O-ring, so I'll probably have to contact Lego and see if they are willing to supply a new set of seals for each of my cylinders. I could just as well change all of them while I'm at it, better to be safe than sorry.
  24. I'm having a similar idea, was planning on using hard lego hose to tidy up the boom. I'm not a fan of the clamshell bucket either, I'm pondering on converting it to a regular bucket with pneumatic tiltrotator :D The problem is that it requires even more pneumatic lines to be drawn, so we'll see if there's room when the time comes.
  25. Jim: Done, smaller pics uploaded. Dafgek81: Haven't seen the 8284 IRL, make sure you try in LDD first so the proportions of the trailer fit your tractor :) It's pretty easy to increase the size of the bed if necessary, and there are larger wheels available too if needed.
