  1. Wasn't there a ruling during the Great Free-Hit Argument so that the first hero would have to tank all of the combined free hits? Has that ruling be changed? EDIT: Maybe it happened at some other point, but I definitely remember such a thing. Found it: Although it appears that I misinterpreted the whole thing.
  2. Haldor yawns, again. "Well, thank you for the fascinating conversation, comrades..." He adds sarcastically. "But I've got better things to do. Well, different things at least." The nord rises to his feet and heads across the hall towards the questboard. One of the entries catches his eye - Something about overthrowing a tyrant and helping rebels into his palace. That sounds like a fine enough mission, although Haldor would have to be careful about which side he chose after what happened in Haddon. Lazily, he signs his name for Quest #80: Sic Semper Tyrannis.
  3. "Ah, a lottery again. I love those things, got me some free stuff last year. Count me in."
  4. "Ahhhh... of course that's what you meant. Yeah, I knew that's what you meant all along." There is a brief moment of awkward silence. "Haven't had a chance to give it a roll yet, but it looks to be a nice bit of kit."
  5. Haldor winks. "Ah, you know me. Who could resist this hair? Bet you suffer from the same kind of problems as me, Karie. With this hair... what can I say? They throw themselves at me." The nord bursts into laughter, but soon finds himself looking around nervously on far away tables for something to drink. "Tired? Yeah, but I don't plan on going to bed, got better things to do... like sit here chattin' to you guys. Nobody's going to be waiting for me back in my room anyway." Haldor looks sideways at Romulus, eyebrow raised and mouth in a curious expression. "Beg your pardon, Lycan? You asking if I've been 'enjoying my hood'? Forgive me if I consider my answer carefully to that one."
  6. Haldor yawns loudly and rises to his feet - it'd been a long time since he'd had someone of interest to talk to, and in the warm drowsiness of the hall there was little else to do besides. The nord strolls nonchalantly over towards the table occupied by Karie and some young lad that he didn't know, and made the others aware of his presence; ignoring the form of Romulus standing nearby. "Well ain't this the nicest gathering? Mind if I join you lot? Karie, my lass, it's good to see you again. And you, kid, even though don't know who you are. This your first time inside these walls? Me, I'm always happy to welcome the newcomers. Name's Haldor; nord, fighter and mead-drinker extraordinaire." He grins jokingly. "Popular among the ladies too, mind."
  7. 2010's Robin Hood. An entertaining and relatively historically accurate film with no major flaws, although it turned out that the movie is rather more of one big origin story than a collection of outlawing adventures. Russell Crowe's accent was Godawful at certain points as well.
  8. Ooh, that Quest #80 sign-up! Julio's last words had better be "Et tu, Brute?" or else...
  9. I guarantee that every QM who is planning to host over the next indeterminate time period will be aware of this change, and so make sure that rouges are provided with enough opportunities to steal.
  10. Haldor ran his fingers through the soft silk of his scarlet hood, memories filling his head as the nord leant back in quiet thought. There was a name there, not a particularly bold or profound one, but a name nonetheless. Haldor scarcely mentioned her, but whenever he did so, the tough-looking man always felt a sharp pang of sorrow in the corner of his heart. His lips formed the word, and a single small tear ran down his face into his beard. "Gerdur..." But this wasn't who they thought he was. Haldor had to keep up appearances, lest his older, weaker side come through again like it nearly did while fighting Wren. He couldn't let that happen. The people of this organisation and its clients expected a certain type of person, and Haldor had to try and keep them all thinking that he was that person. So far, the Grey Wizard had been the only one to see beneath his half-lie, and things would stay that way. The nord wiped the lone tear away and stood slowly up, soon making his way to the questboard for a chance at trying something new. "What's this? Saving some Abbot's brother? That sounds alright - not too complicated and I might have half some luck at doing good." Haldor signs up for Quest #78.
  11. Why is it that the name of the weapon never ceases to make me hysterical? Nice sentence you got there, Pie. Someone needs to rush forward those changes so we can all start talking like this ASAP.
  12. I can't see this being any kind of a problem in reality, to be honest. If a QM or hero finds themself in a situation in which they are unable to recognise the 'sea', a 'lake' or a 'river' - something has gone very, very, wrong.
  13. Why should it have no drawbacks? In the right situation, the item is insanely powerful, and thus the only adequate way to balance it is have it only usable in those certain situation.
  14. Just to clarify: Sandy, we will be getting a full list of the 108 stars complete with pictures, names and biographies after this quest, right?
  15. Haldor smiles and downs the last of his ale. "Aye, see you around, mate."
  16. I believe that Bricksandparts is actually attacking, only without using a weapon.
  17. We can always rely on Zepher to resolve issues and offer us Life Lessons over the internet. This is how I think it should remain also. The general events and happenings I think are common knowledge, whereas more close details and things that one would rather keep secret should only be passed on by word of mouth.
  18. What? You're saying that, despite long posts admittedly being usually good roleplay, they "piss [You] off like nothing else"? How the does that work? Why does the commitment of some people to this game irritate you? Why is it that you find long, often 'good roleplaying' much more annoying than short, equally good speeches? Really, the obvious thing to do if you are so averted to the effort of some players is don't bother reading their posts. I admit not trawling through the length of some players' monologues, but going so far to say that the sheer idea of a long soliloquy 'pisses me off' is a unusual step to take. However much you may dislike Walls of Text, there is nothing inherently wrong with them in the right context. I also personally dislike abrupt personality changes that happen for no valid reason, but to say that such events 'piss me off like nothing else' would be offensive to the players who put their time into writing such a thing. Have respect to others in their work, if you will. Please, don't change your writing style just because of a couple of players voicing that they personally do not like it. There's no valid reason for Dyric to shift his way of speaking, so do continue what seems natural to you.
  19. As far as I know, you're not a character. But if you're referring to Mizuki... then yes, I suppose she fits the bill.
  20. I apologise for using you as an example again, Flipz, it wasn't really necessary or a polite thing to do. But really... I'm sure that everyone could create a massively long Sherlock-esque deduction to work out everything they wanted their character to know; but that doesn't mean that we should all do it. In the same way, it would be possible for me to write pages and pages of exquisite nonsense about why the moon doesn't exist - but that wouldn't make a single word of it true. Incidently, there is a big difference between a good, well structured argument and a right one. What's the point in having a hero recognise an extremely minor NPC from a quest before their time anyhow? It's unrealistic and also breaks the concept of roleplaying to some degree. Remember, folks, one is not just an extension of one's character - it takes far better writing to turn up a lack of knowledge and slip that in rather than just make one's hero a huge genius for the sake of ease. Roleplaying in itself is the concept of acting as another living thing, and thus one must take into account natural and likely mental and physical limits. Unless you're Brickdoctor, obviously, the key is trying to separate one's emotions and personality traits from the character one is playing. I.E. Don't just end up placing yourself into a fantasy setting. For this, one needs to know when to draw the line between a realistic inference and just plain lazy "I recognise him". And on another note: we need FAR more stupid characters in this game. Not uneducated characters, we have plenty of those; but rather ones who don't argue great tomes of philosophy and do what they're told on quests without questioning the morality of the job.
  21. I can't possibly support this post enough, this is one of the re-occurring issues that irritates me the most, yet is not seen by many "hard-core" roleplayers as a problem. I'm sorry, but that time in Quest #38...
  22. That is kind of the point to the film, that much I can gather by just watching the trailer... Hugh Jackman exclaiming "He took away my healing power!", and that other man saying "I have the power to make you... mortal" give that game away a little to be honest.
  23. This is exactly true. The community hasn't become more averted from roleplaying, we as players just are beginning to properly understand what is and is not fair game in quests.
  24. I think that the lack of healing classes is down to the fact that Expert Classes are designed to bring a new, unusual and innovative aspect to the game, and thus standard but more powerful healing or spell-flinging classes are less in demand because they are lest interesting.
  25. I believe that in many respects, Haldor is pretty much the archetypical Shaman with his inventory and stats build; and I haven't changed the way that I play very much at all since his first quest.
