  1. MOC should be titled "Seconds Away From Rebel Catastrophe." Seriously: AT-ATs vs. grounded starships at that range? Good luck.
  2. So, I like the stock Pelta (ahem, Rebel Assault Frigate) - it has a lot of technic elements (and I do mean a lot), but the model feels fairly robust, and there's a fair amount of usable interior space, even if it's just one big, unusually-shaped room. However, the exterior is a bit of a drag - there are tons of studs for a ship that, in Star Wars Rebels, really doesn't have a great deal of greebling. Moreover, the color palette is... disappointing. So when I finished, although I felt like I had the bones of a really awesome ship, I was kind of underwhelmed looking at it on the shelf. Within a day, I settled on a solution that would resolve the appearance problems without breaking the bank: 'armor plating' the vessel from stem to stern. The result is as follows: Now, obviously, this isn't some kind of total reconstruction, nor is it incredibly creative. But I do feel like it makes this particular model look a lot more shelf-worthy (and I feel like the smooth parts make the greebled areas on the sides pop more), and I am so pleased with the finished product that I plan on doing another after Christmas in a blue/grey scheme. It actually turns out to be a pretty cheap way to flesh out a Rebel (or, I suppose, Imperial [though it would just be shades of grey]) fleet with small capital ships. Also, I wanted to add, I intentionally used contours where there were none in the show - I wanted this to look like it was an additional layer of protection on the outer portion of the hull. I may tinker with the design on the second go-around to make the other ship more angular (and thus visually distinct).
  3. Well, this is fantastic. Although I have no need for an X-wing in this scale, I may purchase the instructions anyway 'just in case,' as I can't imagine Lego topping this design in the near future.
  4. What's the part count?
  5. Really? I haven't noticed a significant dropoff. Here's a minifigs related question: why haven't we gotten a line of Star Wars packaged minifigs in one of the series releases?
  6. Honestly, I think the StarScavenger is a disgrace - that is such a blocky, unpleasant looking vessel.
  7. I've seen a lot of good Home Ones (its iconic and has a rather uniform shape, which is why so many people gravitate towards it) over the years - but very few MC80s that were even worth pausing to glance at. If you want a true challenge, that would be it.
  8. I'm kinda 'meh' on the casting myself, but look at it this way: it will be an opportunity for more ANH-era spacecraft and terrestrial vehicles to be added to (or back into) the canon. Considering how Disney culled the lore up and down, pruning awesome ships left and right, I'll be happy to see what they come up with for a Rebels-era timeframe. Still, it's a long ways off and not really worth thinking too hard about for now.
  9. In addition to about $600 on my pending MOC, I Ebayed a lightly used Tantive IV (the more recent release), which will serve as the medical vessel in my small fleet. All I have left to get this Christmas is a Bricklinked Nebulon B, and my strike force should be finished.
  10. Mort, I hate to break this to you, but I think you need to go the whole 9 yards - Mon Cal it up, man. I know that neither Home One nor the winged MC80 cruisers were present during the end of ESB, but if you were going to stretch this project out to its next logical conclusion, that would obviously be where to go.
  11. Welp, I've decided to go ahead and build it. I was really torn because of the sheer expense but, on the other hand, I felt like this would be a really good flagship for a hodgepodge rebel fleet. I'll update again with photos once the parts arrive and it's constructed, though it may be a while, since I am going to have to dye several parts.
  12. I can only speak for myself, but if there was a single word I would assign to the engine in this set, it would be 'pathetic.'
  13. All our X-wing pilots are suddenly obsolete.
  14. I actually really like the cockpit itself.
  15. Is there a way to export the LXF into a simple spreadsheet format so I can manually add the parts to a bricklink wanted list? It's not the fastest plan, but given that LDD Manager seems to 'lose' newer parts constantly, it seems to be the only practical route to ordering this out while simultaneously analyzing the color of every part.
  16. But what about when something is already built? Recoloring parts in the normal mode seems to require you to click and individually color every part - this is enormously problematic when a model is already built.
  17. One thing that greatly irks me about LDD is when you construct and 'paint' an entire project in the extended version, only to discover upon uploading your parts list that half of them don't exist in those colors. I was wondering what the best path was to avoiding this heartbreak on LDD itself? Coloring parts in normal mode on already-built models is, to say the least, hugely tedious, but is that the best way to go to assure that you aren't left out in the cold when it comes to parting a design out? Or is there a faster 'cheat' that will assign colors based on closest existent shade?
  18. I'm going to support Fuppy, and also add that, given what we see, for the model's size, the detail level seems very low so far.
  19. 75158 - Rebel Combat Frigate. Annoying build - way, way too much technic for my tastes. The final product, however, is solid and relatively pleasing to the eye, although I am going to heavily modify mine and tile it over in places, because the number of studded surfaces are just too glaring.
  20. Can I just say that, of all your creations, I find this the most singularly brilliant? The shape is just perfect. I only wish you'd attempt one in a larger scale just so we could see you do an interior.
  21. I gotta say, impressive as this ship is, its lack of an interior and flawed proportions on the front section rather throw me.
  22. I went ahead and attacked the structural problem head-on this morning, tearing down the entire front portion and starting from scratch. The result... is sort of a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's probably closer to the dimensions of the original ship. On the other, the bridge is substantially more cramped inside. I'll defer to the floor as to which you guys prefer, the original or this: The real shame of it is those tan curved pieces only come in very limited colors, so I'd be stuck dying those or changing the paint scheme :/.
  23. Yeah, I would have to dye it to make it work. I spent a good hour messing with part alternatives in the area and couldn't find any other piece that provided that sort of clean, rounded look, but I am still totally open to suggestions, because I hate hate hate part modding, so if there is another way to get that same look, I am all ears. No, I know the front doesnt bend in enough. The problem is exactly how I could achieve additional curvature on the sides without sacrificing the interior scene. This matter is made doubly difficult when you consider the nose - above all else, I wanted that clean, gradual slope (I, in fact, prioritized this lateral lines over horizontal ones), but, again, I messed with about 4 other approaches before I settled on that one. I also agree with you about the top of the bow/stern being a bit too smooth (although I did want some contrast with the more greebled elements). What I would *really* like in these two areas is some way to delineate obvious creases (or divides/breaks) between armored plates - thus still maintaining a smooth look, but with some additional eye candy. I'll mess with it again tonight ans see if I can accomplish any success. All your criticism is more than warranted, though - there were places I had to make judgment calls, and it's possible I made the wrong ones.
  24. Thanks. One reason you may not have heard of it is because it's from the old EU... and not exactly recent material, either. And thus you probably won't see more Dreadnaughts in the future, since Disney took a big Mickey-sized yellow boot and smashed all that into a bloody paste. In other news, I realized I kind of phoned in the engine compartment the first go-around, so I just redid it:
