Purist Star Wars Figures
ProvenceTristram replied to IronFish's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Done a Bastila Shan? She's far and away my favorite character from that game. -
Everything works but the superweapon discharge, which comes out looking black.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
ProvenceTristram replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
Great, another minifig series I almost skip entirely. That makes three in 2 years. About the only figures I see of even remotely redeeming value are the rabbit costume girl and Harley Quinn. What a bust. -
Mini [MOC] Imperial Assault Hover Tank
ProvenceTristram replied to Irish437's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That's a heavily modified pickup tru-- Nevermind. New normal. Yee haw? -
I'm torn. Jar-Jar aside, "little" Anakin was my least favorite thing about the prequels - he was just such an annoying, bad actor. Obviously, the set itself is excellently done, I just cringe at the source material.

Mini [MOC] Imperial Assault Hover Tank
ProvenceTristram replied to Irish437's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Are those crates from the Rebels speeder bike? Regardless, they look good, although I think it's kind of a shame that Lego/Disney relegated their tanks to cargo duty in the first place. -
I never know how to react to the Friends stuff. On the one hand, this is brilliantly done - I like the staging, the colors utilized, the way the scene is divided into vignettes. On the other appendage, while I am infinitely grateful to the Friends line for introducing new hairpieces (particularly the long in the back, short in the front bangs), it's so sugary-sweet that just looking at it makes me want to go into convulsions and barf lollipops like I've been possessed by the unholy spirit of Rainbow Brite.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
ProvenceTristram replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I would have bought just the TIE Advanced, but the funky A-wing did nothing for me, especially in those colors. I feel like it's a really expensive set for what you get. -
Thanks! Put in the order for the parts last night. It's going to be a Christmas present from my parents, though, so I won't have the built pics until about a month on.

Where's that friendly robot's hand? He's trying to either high five or hug that emo fellow.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

It's been like that for a while, sadly. Let's be honest: for most of us, the micro fighters are just $13 minifigure boxes. -
"Extra pieces" in Death Star 2 (10143)???
ProvenceTristram replied to Lego39842's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Interesting question: why does Lego do this? And how did it begin? I recall thinking that the extra pieces were an error when I was growing up. Regardless of whether or not that is true, these days, the extra parts are clearly an expected part of the build... which is sort of befuddling, considering what a premium Lego themselves places on the value of an individual part.- 8 replies

new REVIEW: New LEGO Store - Leicester Square, London
ProvenceTristram replied to Pandora's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Jeez, I wish that minifig was more widely available. I'm such an Anglophile... -
Yup, that looks about right. I can't stand those friggin' books anymore due to the way she phoned in the last one (and cashed in on the play/script whatever the Cursed Child was), but that in no way detracts from the excellent work here, particularly on the interior. I want to say the outside could use something more... plants? Dilapidated siding? Something. It just looks a bit too clean. I kind of imagine the Burrow not only being half tumbled down, but also shrouded in vines and unkempt shrubbery. That side with the ladder leaning against it and basically no windows just screams "COVER ME IN IVY!" Alternatively, you could also accomplish the same effect by edging in some stonework in places - sort of remnants from older incarnations of the structure that have been replaced over time by less expensive wood.

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors

Anyone else disappointed by the hair on young Kenobi in the Naboo set? That clean parted piece is so tired, and he looked nothing like that in Episode I. -
LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
ProvenceTristram replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Gee, so far the new Phantom is really the only one I care about. Yoda's fighter has kind of a nice shape (sort of a mini TIE Interceptor), and the Naboo Duel is an obvious buy just for the three minifigs (but looks otherwise useless)... but the rest, outside the minifgure packs, look pretty forgettable. Particularly disappointing is the Battle on Scarif - yes, nice mix of minifigs (and who doesn't love Shoretroopers?), but I could easily see that set running $35-$40, and I don't know that I can justify that for 4 minifigs (2 of which I basically already own). -
What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?
ProvenceTristram replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Bought the U-Wing from Walmart the other day - was very pleasantly surprised. Honestly, I could see this easily becoming as iconic a ship as any of the traditional Alliance fighters - it's just got "the look:" that peculiar blend of sleekness and clunkiness that makes Rebel spacecraft so lovable. As for the Lego build itself... eh. I'm not a huge fan of models that are over 3 part bags - I just start to zone out at some point, and want to be finished. Having said that, there wasn't a ton of Technic, or anything particularly odious about the construction process, so that was pleasant. -
It's a colloquialism. It means that, in attempting to do one thing, you have sacrificed from another, and in the process the net gain is either neutral or negative. In this case, in trying to achieve a more accurate cockpit shape, you've produced something that jumps out glaringly at the viewer in such a way as to draw attention to its discordance. Lego simply doesn't produce a fine enough set of parts to believably achieve a crafted cockpit in this scale - the shaft pieces are too bulky to be the outline of a glass canopy. It's just my fifty cents, but I think you'd be better off incorporating one of the stock cockpit pieces.

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
ProvenceTristram replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Isn't 75078 cheap Stormtroopers, though? I've picked up a few of those this year. I'm going to pass myself. I have the previous model, and this really doesn't look like an enormous visual upgrade. Now, the next time they release a B-Wing, provided it isn't yet another 1-plate-thick-wings hack job? I'll be all over that. -
LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
ProvenceTristram replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The best thing about the rebel pack is that they don't job things up with two aliens this time. We get it: the Rebellion is "culturally sensitive" - that doesn't mean, however, that every 4th dude in my army has to be a Rodian. -
Lol. If this forum had a +1 feature, I would have given you one. Definitely. I have shot one - as in single, lone, individual - stud in my lifetime, never to have seen it again. I don't understand what age group this is even supposed to appeal to - loading the weapons is tiresome, they shoot once before requiring a reload, and look like ungainly black hair dryers. I know that 10-year-old me would have found them just as annoying as 30-something-year-old me.
-
Now, before you shoot me down with 'because they're meant for children,' consider these two points: 1) it's arguable that the people most concerned with 'army building,' and thus having the money and the will to acquire multiples of these packs, are AFOLs. If I had to guess, the majority of discerning parents - being neither huge Star Wars nor Lego buffs - aren't going to line up to buy many boxes of the same kit, reasoning that little Billy or Sarah already owns it. And 2) if the stud shooters were some kind of massive 'oh my God I've got to have this!!!!!' kid magnet - if their draw was so out of proportion to all other factors, and the need to have projectile weapons created this aether-level of impulse - then why haven't they replaced the traditional weapons in larger (and more expensive) sets? The fact that I find the blasters completely worthless as a part is almost secondary here to my confusion regarding the weird double standard on their marketing.
-
Probably. But I could also fit a full-size astromech by removing 2 small plates and fitting a 1x2 plate in their place, thus dropping the floor slightly. It just didn't look as good sitting in there... that's why I went with Chopper (one of the things I like about Chopper is that he's closer in height to actual astromechs, whereas the current R2-D2/etc. are enormous). I've also test-fit a removal of the cargo space/droid by supplementing it with a small bedroom for long spaceflights.
