  1. 42030 because it was my first remote controlled Lego set which is really neat to control the functions in this way. 42042 is next and would be my favorite if it were remote controlled too (my 1st technic purchase for me). I'm a little bummed that I missed out on the 42025.
  2. Thanks folks. I'll give it another shot using these new ideas, though it will probably take several weekends to figure it all out and build it.
  3. Thank you for your advice. One question, how do you determine what should be in a module? I've used the hide function before when building large (system parts) models, so I'm familiar with the value of using that feature.
  4. I would skip the arctic truck* (especially at MSRP), but either of the two mentioned are really great. I'd also recommend getting a 42042 crawler crane before they become discontinued. 42054 was such a great buy before the holiday that I purchased two, but the 42030 also has neat functions. * I bought mine at a much better price and still scrapped the main model for parts in the end.
  5. Unfortunately, I had to give up on building the saddletrac. LDD's building guide has too many floating parts that do not connect and I'm struggling to keep track of where they go. It was a good (& expensive) lesson to learn as a new technic builder, though it's not like I can't use the parts for a different project.
  6. Excellent. After today's mail I should have all the parts to build the saddletrac and complete your steering mod to this set.
  7. I wanted to verify something about efferman's mod before I start the upgrade. After reviewing the instruction guide(pdf) it appears that there is a medium motor instead of a servo. Is that correct or did I overlook an important detail? Thanks! P.S. I did notice that the picture of the parts list has a m-motor too.
  8. I just held up some spare 42054 tires to the set and it looks like the set would need to be modified to accommodate them. The rear ones might be okay, but the front would lose turning ability Update: disregard my previous statement. I just put on the tires and they appear to work without issue. My only concern is that they rub against the front fenders, so it may be a little better if those were moved back by one stud.
  9. I don't know if Technic parts are made out of a different plastic, but they do seem to have a greater chance of becoming brittle and cracking/breaking. Maybe it should be more comparable to the old thin clips on plates and horse bardings and how those had a greater tendency to break.
  10. After several months of gathering parts for the model I was able to build it last night. Excellent model with nice working functions plus the instructions were very professional looking and easy to follow. Kudos!
  11. I had an issue opening the v2 file as well. For me there was a studio update that was preventing me from viewing it. It worked fine after the update. Another thing that I vaguely recall as an issue was that I could not open the v1 file by just double-clicking it in my downloads folder. I think it may have opened studio, but not the file itself. You may be better off starting studio and then choosing to open it in the menu bar.
  12. Nice! What piece did you use to keep the tension, but also allows it to flex (the rods that whack the bell)? Is it those rubber 1x2 liftarm like pieces?
  13. Thanks! I don't find Studio to be very user friendly, but I was finally able to figure out what you meant by hide/unhide. Time to start collecting the parts!
  14. This looks really nice: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/RB-instructions/mower-for-claas-xerion-5000-mhwerk At the moment it's not worth 20 euro to me, but maybe it is for you. Updated: It looks like their ebay account has more nice attachments.
  15. You may get a more accurate response to your poll, if you wait until all of the above sets are released worldwide.
  16. All 3 complete sets for 250 euro (about $263 usd) would require no thought on my part. Then again I rarely see deals on Technic in the USA. There are a good number of European sellers on BL that sell new Technic sets for a fraction of what they cost here, so maybe it isn't as good of a deal for you.
  17. I had a spare 42054 sorted into my bins and possibly a small amount of parts from other technic sets and need to spend about $80-90 in parts for the Saddletrac. I hope that helps you to have an idea of how much of the 42054 is used (maybe 60% as a rough guess).
  18. Do you know offhand, if the "Light Bluish Gray Liftarm 1x4 thin (32449)" pieces are really important to the build (color wise)? They are a bit more expensive and harder to come by compared to Dark Bluish Gray.
  19. What do these designations like 1H, 2H, etc. stand for?
  20. Excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. I love the fact that it's motorized, but doesn't require all the receivers and remotes (which bump the cost up significantly). Much like the 42042 crawler.
  21. Were you able to get Studio to create a step view for your model? I can get it to "fetch" the parts for smaller models, but it cannot seem to load yours.
  22. Awesome model. I was able to open the file in Studio. That's about all I can see what to do with it at the moment. I might build it in orange, if I can make some kind of parts list and instructions from your file.
  23. Thanks! This worked okay and I've begun to pull the parts from what I have on hand. Started at 220 lots and now down to 118.
  24. I tried to gather a parts list by converting the LDD to Ldraw and opening in Brickstock, but I came up with some weird color combinations. Magenta and Trans-Medium Blue parts that don't exist. I'll have to try another time with your older file.
