  1. I think it would work only from a definite perspective...
  2. Hi Everyone, Let me share with you my pirate vitrine! I can display the Pirates of Barracuda Bay set only this way at home: 2F0823A1-6D04-491A-BCC1-E39D2B44DEA2 by Gyula Herr, on Flickr I had to rotate the island, thus there was no place for the original azure blue plates. Therefore I've built the surrounding water with transparent blue tiles, like others did before (I always wanted to try this technic). There are three layers, so it's quite sturdy. The second layer consists only of tan and LBG plates. Other mods, specifications (mostly because of lacking space): - front mast is removed - main mast is 4 plate shorter - no flags on the top of the masts - one palm tree is removed on the right - no rock on the front-right side - custom background based on the box art - custom sails based on @Alazon's vectorized Silent Mary sails. I used my modified skull-crossbones logo for the big one - maybe it's a bit to emphatic... These are only prototypes made of paper, I'm still working on them. Thanks for stopped by.
  3. Under construction... IMG_20200621_153941 by Gyula Herr, on Flickr
  4. The biggest one is from the Skull's Eye Schooner, the other are from the Renegade Runner. All sails are original.
  5. I’ve just found this MOD at a hungarian forum. The island is combined with the Old fishing store set. Brilliant! 350493E1-02AC-4AD8-BC0B-E207FBE02A8A by Gyula Herr, on Flickr
  6. I've just read your post. You've raised the Black Seas Barracuda to a higher level. You've created a beautiful ship based on your knowledge and research about sailing ships. Although I love the curves of the official ship, it lacks of many practical and fighting functions, what you've already solved here. I hope we'll learn a lot of from you.
  7. Now that looks like a real shipwreck! I like you colour mods and sails! I think I'm going to do something similar to this.
  8. Nice MODs! You've captured the look of the original docking rings well! How secure are they? Could you show some other pictures from other angles and a total? Have you modyfied the back of the cockpit as well? It's a tricky area, since it's complicated to place the minifigs to the second row without a complete rebuild .
  9. What is the size of the completed model (how much space does it require)?
  10. That's a good idea! I think I'm also going to do that way. If you don't have many parts at home, the best way to build a MOC is to design it in Stud.io software. You can upload the part list to Bricklink then (it useful to check meanwhile, whether a special part comes in the desired colour). It's a time-consuming process, but you can avoid unecessary buyings. You can find the digital file of this set somewhere in this topic.
  11. I've just modyfied the new logo for my own taste. I like to share with you. Skull logo MOD by Gyula Herr, on Flickr You can download the vector file from my Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dbEUxHU846LBBfKmeu1T-qViLcPAq92u/view?usp=sharing Hope you like it.
  12. What a beautiful monstrum!
  13. I love your custom minifigures! The buildings capture the feeling of the islanders theme well. It's funny, that you've left the sand in the mouth of the totem's head.
  14. This topic generates interesting conversations about design, minifigure anatomy - I like it. This is a little experiment comparing regular/classic minifig head, new skeleton head and the new skull logo: LEGO head blend by Gyula Herr, on Flickr LEGO head blend2 by Gyula Herr, on Flickr LEGO head blend3 by Gyula Herr, on Flickr As you can see, the classic minifigure head has his eyes and mouth a little too close to each other in compared to the skeleton head, but this was the first design. The new skeleton head and the new skull logo can be almost perfectly blended. The mismatch occurs at the top, both compared to the classic minifig head and the skeleton head: designers couldn't deside how tall it should be. Its height is between the top of the stud and the top line of the head. I think it would be better, if it followed the top line... The jaw line reaches only the bottom line of the head, that's ok for me.
  15. Hi Everyone, I love this set, but unfortunately I've ran out of space at my appartment. I'd like to display it in a closed glass vitrine which has 57x48 studs area and 52 studs height. I've meassured the set in Stud.io, and it doesn't fit into it. I want to display it in any case, so I decided to modify it. First, I have to angle the island about 60 degrees. Thus, the base almost fits, however there isn't enough space for some angles of the plates and the rock at the front-left side - the latter must go. Inspired by @Robin_IV, I'm going to build a water base from tiles around the island. This what I came up with. It consists of two parts as the original base. Vitrin-alap by Gyula Herr, on Flickr I'm going to place it that way. It has two layers at the moment, but I think one more layer should have been built to the bottom... I'm not sure, whether it's secure enought. At this stage, it will cost about 90 USD according to my Bricklink wish list. It won't cost much more with the third layer, since I can use the azure blue plates for it. In addition, a have to remove the whole foremast, the upper flags and some side parts of the other masts, but I think it won't affect the overall look of the bay as much - it will look more weary... At the end, I'd like to add some custom torn sails.
  16. However, I think the graffic designer did a great job by creating the new logo based on a minifigure head. As I was inspecting it over and over, I realized that my biggest problem is, that it's too bulky. Well, it's a LEGO skull, but feels very unnatural to me. I've made a sketch only with smooth modifications (sorry for the bad quality): IMG_20200427_014845_edit by Gyula Herr, on Flickr It is more pleasing to my eyes with a litlle more angular scalp and jaw. I'd like to vectorize it soon.
  17. Aggred, the new one's forehead is too big. I prefer the old one for that reason.
  18. Congrats to you for your new child! I have a new son since 2019 October. I had also lack of spare time and space, that's why the project progressed slowly. I had all the parts at the end of 2019, but I could make the assemble just a few weeks ago.
  19. Hi Everyone, Finally, I've just finished my Tantive IV. It is a huge and long model! A had to make an extension to the stand, so it fits to the top of my furnitures. I followed the instructions and part list strictly. My only modification is that I used DBG wheels at the engines instead of white. The UCS plaquette is not connected to the stand, it is removable. DSC_0007 másolat by Gyula Herr, on Flickr DSC_0014 másolat by Gyula Herr, on Flickr DSC_0017 másolat by Gyula Herr, on Flickr I would say, that I'm an experienced UCS SW builder, since I own many official sets, but this model containes so many clever solutions, that I wasn't expected. I think it's a higher level to build it. I really enjoyed the build of the core and cockpit. They are quite sturdy. However, I had some issues to put the engines together. They are heavy and fragile. Some underside panels tend to fall down. I solved this by putting a 1x8 white tile underside: DSC_0099 by Gyula Herr, on Flickr As I assembled the ship, the "stem" of the lower-lateral engine broke off because of it's weight. IMG_20200206_094516 by Gyula Herr, on Flickr I tryed to put some extra bricks for more stud-to-stud connection. It looks more secure now, but I'm not fully satisfied with it. The other problem is, that the middle engines hold the whole weight of the rear part and they tend to angle upwards a bit, since the are connected only with a few pins (or axles?) to the center part. My future plans are to make these connections stronger and secure the end of the engines as possible. Sometimes they fall off and it's hard to reconnect them without braking. Otherwise I love this model, but the engines can be improved in terms of stability.
  20. Wow, that looks much better than the original!
  21. Looking forward to see, how it looks overall once you've finished building!
  22. Already supported!!!
  23. Updated Caribbean Clipper!
  24. Yes and he completed it with classic sets. My only complaint is the water... it's so unnatural with those straight lines. Yes, that is what I plan to do. Maybe I'll give a try to the torn sails as well.
