  1. Okay, technically the deadline for signup has now gone by, but seeing as I can't do anything about the player selection while at work I'll leave this open for a while longer, hope no one minds
  2. Uhm, right. I should have been less specific it seems. I've now changed it to "private communication", which includes all sorts of communication outside the Day threads, and added the fact that the Not Loyals are allowed to communicate in private. For those of you who assumed the scum weren't allowed to communicate in private in your signup PMs, don't worry, I won't hold it against you. (and some of your ideas were in fact quite clever). Now, I realize I can't possibly enforce this rule, so I'm asking you all to respect it, you really will only hurt your chances of winning if you start breaking this rule, so please don't do it. Obviously, if someone comes to me saying that such-and-such player has been breaking the rule I will investigate, and if it turns out to be true a warning will be given, and if it's a repeated offence they will be mod-killed. I don't believe in penalty votes, if you mess up you die. Consider yourself warned. You are of course free to PM me with questions unsuitable for the discussion thread.
  3. Quentin de Belle-ville had it all; tons of money from a business empire dealing in chocolate and perfume, more power than any sane man would want, and a loving and caring family to share it all with. Except.. they were perhaps not all as loving and caring as they would like to pretend to be.. in his later years it became more and more obvious that some members of the family were Not Loyal and plotting to take control of the family business empire. So in an attempt to solve this problem once and for all Quentin has gathered the family for one last reunion at his splendid mansion. Luckily one does not make it to the top of the lucrative chocolate and perfume market without acquiring more than a few enemies along the way, and thus making it necessary to have means to deal with such enemies. So Quentin has, with the help of various old accomplishes and henchmen, solutions to dispatch of the dead bodies without the FBI finding out what is going on at the Belle-ville mansion and will have his family vote to kill one member each Day until the threat to the Family is dead and buried... There are two sides in Belville Mafia (BM): Loyals and Not Loyals. To win the Loyals need to find and kill all the Not Loyal family members, while the Not Loyals need to outnumber the Loyal family members. Belville Mafia mostly uses the standard rules for mafia games that most of you should know by now, so I'm not going to waste your time by repeating them here. There are however a couple of differences: There are no clues in the pictures, anyone referring to them as such will be mod-killed The use of private communication* is forbidden (yes, really. It would only hurt your chances of winning anyway) A Day will last a maximum of 48 hours, followed by Night which will last a maximum of 24 hours. This means you have quite a short time to send in your Night actions, and will have to pay close attention to what's going on. A Day that ends without a conviction will have a random death among the non-voters (*: by "private communication" I mean communication outside the Day threads. The Not Loyals are of course allowed to communicate in private though, details about how I prefer this to take place will be in your role PMs.) As there is only 13 slots available in Belville Mafia most of you will not get to play, this is unfortunate, but that's how it has to be to get a small and fast game. (it also happens to be the amount of Belville figs I have available for this ) And a final warning: if you're easily offended, for instance by LEGO figs doing "adult stuff" you might want to avoid this game.. So, assuming you still want to participate in this silliness I want you to do two things: First, post in this thread about your desire to play (feel free to include anything you think might be relevant regarding your performance as a Mafia player on Eurobricks, but this is not required) and any plans to be away from Eurobricks during the month of July. (I honestly don't expect this to take all of July, but better safe than sorry) Secondly, send me a PM answering two questions: a) assuming you're Loyal please outline how you want to find and get rid of the Not Loyals, and b) assuming you're Not Loyal please outline how you want to maximize your chances of winning as quickly as possible. Signups closes at 00:00 UTC Friday 1st of July, which is a little over 74 hours after this post, good luck.
  4. And now for something with more substance than the previous post. First of all, though the Westin is pretty good (with the mess-up they did with our rooms being the biggest problem, but I blame Hinckley for that ) I fear Brickworld might go stale if it stays at the Westin forever (and when talking about events 5 years is close to forever), as the hotel is now maxed out. Brickworld has great potential for further growth and to become even better quality-wise, but I don't think that potential can be unleashed at the Westin. So pretty, pretty please with ultra-rare Q-elements on top () consider moving to somewhere else if it's possible. Apart from that I'd love to see some grouping of awards categories, it would just be so much simpler to compare MOCs when deciding who to vote for when you don't have to visit four different ballrooms. Obviously it's not possible to do this completely, but it could be better than today. I can see this being a bit much work to implement though. Well, the large bag, the bag from the shop and my camera bag, but the camera bag is pretty small. It did also contain LEGO though. I considered for a second or two to take the metro, but quickly realized that the walk home from the metro station would kill me, so I took a taxi instead. Totally agree about the discount being an improvement, after discount and taxes I on average saved 60% on sets compared to Norwegian prices, which is pretty damn good. And I don't miss the 50% off damaged boxes sale at all, doing such a sale just isn't possible to make even slightly fair, so it's good riddance in most ways. (though I did get a 10179 from that last year, and I probably wouldn't have bought that set even with 30% )
  5. "In grab-bags" kinda implies that there was no box. But seeing as a box would have had to go to get it back home anyway it's no bother. Besides, I don't care about boxes, they take up too much space and serve no function.
  6. Second Brickworld for me, even more awesome than last year, despite the lack of a 2 meters tall Australian madman. Really loved that we could start setting up on Thursday morning, and I think having the opening ceremonies on Wednesday evening worked very well too, everything just seemed a lot more relaxed and laidback than last year, which was very good. As for more constructive criticism I don't have much to add at the moment as I'm currently at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris on my way home and have jetlag from Hell, so I'll post more later. But I do have to say that having the flight home being 3 hours delayed, and those 3 hours being spent sitting in the plane without working aircondition, and due to the delay missing the connecting flight in Paris so I have to wait here for 4 hours while I should be at home already SUCKS I am, however, amazed that AirFrance let me take a way too large bag with lots of LEGO and a LEGO Store bag with a MISB 10219 in it as carry-on on the plane from Chicago, going to be interesting to see what they say at the next flight.
  7. Right, I see it now.
  8. Various. The main effect came from two pretty large blacklights placed beneath the huge laser beams from Norro's Galidor ship (first good usage of Galidor pieces I've seen I think ), Rufus had normal PF lights and a light brick in his spaceship, the lights on the sign of Plasmo's are from Lifelites, and I manually wired up 3mm ultra-bright white LEDs for my hover truck (did that at the hotel with no soldering iron and crappy wires, lots of cursing could be heard during the process, and the lights were never stable, monorail passing by could often make them switch off due to the crappy connections). In no particular order: Stash2Sixx Norro CopMike Quarryman Rufus Pandora I Scream Clone (shipped over awesome stuff from Australia) Peppermint_M (sent her stuff with Rufus and Pandora) Ricecracker Hinckley CarrollFilms Siegfried Polish Guy (detail handler )
  9. Broke Hinckley's dick - because I did just that. (and then I had to fix it)
  10. I don't either, but deboxing does wonders, so there's hope. Anyway, that's a problem for another day, right now there's more drinking to be done.
  11. Uhm, quite possible, what did I miss?
  12. Brickworld has this "must buy lots of LEGO" effect on me it seems (probably related to the much better prices here in the US compared to at home in Norway) So I've bought.. 4181 Isla de Muerta 4191 Captain's Cabin 4192 Fountain of Youth 4194 Whitecap Bay (in grab-bags for 16 USD ) 4840 The Burrow 7066 Earth Defense HQ (in grab-bags for 16 USD ) 7189 Mill Village Raid 7306 Golden Staff Guardians 7307 Flying Mummy Attack 7570 Ostrich Race x 2, on clearance at Target 7984 Deep Sea Raider 10211 Grand Emporium 10218 Pet Shop 10129 Maersk Train Various stuff from Pick-a-Brick, in part to get a proper cup for drinking beer. various Brickarms and Brickforge stuff, and a t-shirt from brickshirts.com. And I think that's all.
  13. so there you go go - No idea who gave it to me or what it's about. Anyone?
  14. In Chicago for Brickworld, where else would I be?
  15. And speaking of being ready I've just spent a long time cursing while trying to add lights to a MOC. Halfway there now, just need to finish the difficult half.
  16. I have no idea either, but I brought a monorail train and some other stuff, so we'll see. Ended up skipping most of the stuff I was planning on bringing though, just not enough time to get everything done (or at least almost-done enough to finish them in Chicago).
  17. Well, ready or not, here I come. Next stop Chicago! (after 15 hours or so of travelling that is)
  18. Figure LBaixinho's information from the events forum is worthy of a repost, detailed pictures of Series 5 are up in Comunidade 0937's Flickr stream. Thanks for these!
  19. And about 40 hours until I leave for the airport, of course still not done building, so tomorrow will be stressful I think
  20. I'll definitely be there. (assuming no serious illness or natural disasters get in the way) Maybe not this summer, but what about next summer? Next summer it's probably time to get some daughters after all those sons.
  21. ...but there's lots of members here - for pointing out to Pandora at the EB Event that there was a lot of members present.
  22. That sounds suspiciously much like some incidents at LEGO World Norway 2008.
  23. Lovely number 6 there doc (but it should have been made with dark blue instead of regular blue )
  24. Ready.. no, far from it. Waiting for a couple of Bricklink orders, and have a lot of last-minute building to do before I get on the plane, but that's how I work best, need the pressure of a deadline to get things done.
  25. Been meaning to go to Skærbæk for quite a few years, and it looks like this year I'll finally make it (also, it looks we're going to be a quite large group of Norwegians going, which is always good)
