Very good, especially the landscaping has some nice techniques and comes together very well.

First MOC in a long time, I introduce the tower of midnight. So called because it is situated in a pool of oil. I'll let the pictures do the talking. The pale skeletons driven by the will of the necromancer enter the oil and head towards the central island. Climbing out they have been blackened by the thick liquid, but continue to climb relentlessly upwards. They have no idea of the resistance they will meet, this tower is inhabited by wizards. And they learn the hard way, the oil has made the undead flammable! High above the necromancer circles on his winged nightmare. But can he contend with the powers of nature? (Bird design inspired by SlyOwl) Or the forces of thunder, fast as they are powerful, striking at all angles simultaneously. Overview One Overview Two --- Hope you like it, I found it rather difficult to photograph!

How do you like my MOCing bird?

Wow, what a prize the winner of this will get now! Thanks to both Brickarms and Classic Pirates

Very nice! I wonder if you should paint the side of the head stud on the first figure to match the hair though?

I'm glad you all like the torsos, I actually used a very simple technique of sticking the design to a piece of sellotape and then carefully trimming around to leave some overhanging tape to secure the design in place. The head and legs also help to anchor it down. I've now updated the first post as a semi-final entry style. I've basically reached the end of the opportunity I have to work on it, though I may have a chance to make some quick changes in late May just before the deadline! Looking forward to seeing some more entries emerging over the next few weeks.

Decals applied (courtesy of the torso library), i'll hopefully post the finished product in the next day or two.

Thanks for the ideas guys, i'm thinking about elongating it and adding a cliff along one side at the moment. I don't think I can add the Russian batteries unless it becomes huge!

Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade! "Charge for the guns!" he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Someone had blunder'd: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell Rode the six hundred. Flash'd all their sabres bare, Flash'd as they turn'd in air, Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wonder'd: Plunged in the battery-smoke Right thro' the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reel'd from the sabre stroke Shatter'd and sunder'd. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well Came thro' the jaws of Death Back from the mouth of Hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred. When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honor the charge they made, Honor the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred. -Alfred Tennyson, Inspirational Picture: Pictures: Overview Amongst the action Overhead From Behind

Classic castle has a really useful page here: http://www.classic-castle.com/howto/articles.html#construct and specifically trying to avoid the big gray wall syndrome.. http://www.classic-castle.com/howto/articl...iggraywall.html Good luck!

I've been watching the rest of the series and was quite looking forward to this one as it was about LEGO. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in some respects. Obviously the project was very interesting and it was nice to see, but in the other episodes he's looked at some of the history of the toys and talked to enthusiasts. I was hoping he'd go to the LEGO vault perhaps and definitely talk to some AFOLs.. but instead it was all simply the building process. Furthermore, he didn't consult lego experts, but real architects and interior designers instead

The ship is obviously brilliant, but it's especially nice to see you both having fun making it

MOC: Hill House; Homage to the Horror Genre
Duke replied to einsteinonthebeach's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow. This is outrageously good and detailed. Even as a stand alone thing it's great but with all the small references.. -
Wow, great take on the faction. Interesting much more realistic style of art than the other stuff i've seen too. I think the horse especially looks great.

Excellent review, I do enjoy reading about sets i'm never going to buy if only to see the fun things you do with them on the building process. I have to say I enjoyed the horror of the decapitated horse as it whirled merrily round.

Thanks for the futher comments, I have to say i've been lacking motivation to do more on this after my previous frenzy of activity . I don't have any pictures of what it's supposed to look like Teddy, a google search reveals how a few people have interpretted the appearance of the city generally but I have an image in mind of what i'd like the creation to look like. The plan is to add another floor above the additional ones on top of the library and kitchens which contain smaller rooms. This level will then have a roof aside from the 'tower' sections which can be seen sticking out at the front of the MOC, as they will be several floors higher hopefully..

I think you've done a great job with what you've made, the details give it charm. I especially like what I assume are curtains in that final picture, I might have to borrow that some time

Ok brickshelf has finally been moderated! Here is the overview as it stands. As you can see, an additional piece has been added over the stairs and the whole MOC stretches back further. Two rooms have been placed at the back on top, and these are removable. Removing those rooms reveals this: And below are close ups of the library, forgotten storeroom and kitchen respectively. Thats all for now, I hope you like the progress that has been made. The red tiles will be replaced with bley ones when I can get hold of some, and another cook will be helping in the kitchen hopefully. @ Sir Dillon - Glad to hear you read the first few books, great to hear someone else getting into them and those starting ones are some of the best. It's not going to be a realistic size, but I see it as a cross section of an area of the tower rather than the whole tower itself but at the same time in a traditional LEGO way it will encompass many aspects of the whole thing in a smaller area. I know what you mean about those rock areas at the front, and i've tried to tackle it slightly by raising it in a couple of places and putting some plants in as well.. I think it's an improvement but could still look better. Any advice and suggestions are appreciated!

This is great, I love the scale of it suggesting a huge castle and the buildings behind the walls are a nice touch too.

Thanks for the comments guys, just a quick note to say i'm back and have made quite a bit of progress with this over the last day or two. I've ordered some parts and found some techniques to employ from brickshelf. Photos of the basement and redone front of the ground floor will be up in a couple of days.

Great ship and really nice to see the work process, particularly that you guys all met up and did it. It's nice to see positive things like that coming out of these forums. Are there any more projects on the horizon?

A nice little scene, great job on your first MOC! I especially like the construction of the tree, it looks quite natural (something I struggle with when making trees)
-
I like it, it's got a very official feel to it.

UPDATE IN POST 10 Over the last few weeks I began building this, the production being limited by brick orders not arriving. (I'm still waiting for a pick a brick ordered 3 weeks ago!) Here's how it's looking from the front at the moment, I wanted the appearance of growing out of rock, but also that spiral staircase which proved slightly tricky to incorporate. A view from the back, just experimenting with a cut away wall, that room won't necessarily be there but i'm happy with the interior. A better view of the room. Finally, some experimentation with torsos to make Aes Sedai. The one on the right is meant to be a novice in a curtsey position. I'm not sure how great the epaulettes look as shawl substitutes.. Anyway, advice/tips/criticism would be very welcome! I'm not going to be able to work on this for the next 5 weeks so i'd like to get lots of ideas ready to implement.
