NEW BlueCoats are Coming! NEW BlueCoats are Coming!
Duke replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've found a working link to it: My link Looks like 4 classic minifigs, nice for you Americans! -
As the kind Admiral Croissant has pointed out, not everything fits into redcoats or bluecoats This ship fits into my imagined Cornish faction as a part of the British Empire around 1800. This is represented in the ensign and black uniforms. Thanks for the further comments, i'll definitely have a go at some headrails in the next couple of days. Any suggestion of what might be the best colour for them?

Ah, I must have skimmed over that bit, sorry! In that case she will be perfect -

This looks amazing, one slightly radical comment though, I feel like there should be a third mast.. -
Excellent MOC, I thought the category B entry was great but this is the icing on the cake. Nice landscaping with the graduation progression of colours, the light green looks very good.

I'm not familiar with the monstrous regiment, but this is a great little vignette and I especially like the leg/flag!

Hi, i'm glad you like it! It's two midsections, i'm not sure exactly what you mean by small and large bases, but they are the bases from the Brickbeard's Bounty. Thanks :). I had the blackcoats in mind before I built the ship as I rather like them as well, especially with the gold epaulette As far as updates go.. I have some new pictures today: A clearer shot of the bow with the black replaced and remodelled by red. The incline reduced in the middle so it looks less like it's breaking in two!
-
I don't really have the parts to make it longer, but I might reconstruct the stern to be a bit lower.
-
Thanks for the encouragement, I do value highly the words of such esteemed builders as yourselves. I did a little work today on the ship, restructuring one side to have less of an incline. I managed to loosen the hinges by accident and spent a good while taking things apart to get at them in order to reattach.. I'll try adding a bit of red near the front and then sorting out the other side when I have some time at the weekend.

Great work, and as you say a nice twist on the usual sacrifice image. Congrats on your mod-ship as well.

I had quite forgotten about the rigging, so present a new photo with a few (hopefully positive) changes. All the gunports are now black and i've added a few flags on the mastheads as well as an ensign. The rigging isn't really of an ideal length but I think it is an improvement..

1 Point each to: 8) lisqr 10) Darkblane 19) Etzel Lots of very good entries in this category but these ones stood out the most for me.
-
1 Point - #15 Traffic Cop Entry (Build by Profound Whatever) 1 Point - #23 Vampire Entry (Build by Darkblane) 1 Point - #34 Witch Entry (Build by Athos) All of the above chosen for their original takes on a situation for the minifig. All well constructed as well.

This is very nice, a fine backdrop for the pharaoh minifig. Are you planning a removable roof as part of the project or leaving it open?

Thanks for the comments all, I see what you mean about the slope being too much for a vessel of this size. The fault lies in my copying a technique meant for more midsections. I concede the bow is a little weak with just a covering of black plates at an angle, I was struggling to work out how it ought to look and fitting detail in the small space. As for the poop deck, I agree that it is probably too high, but after I built that staircase up to it which I rather liked, I couldn't bring myself to do a redesign and remove it. Anyway, as I said it was an experimental ship so thanks for the comments and I will take them on board for the future.

[pid][/pid] 101d Final Update? in post #35 (Page 3) Update of updates in post #31 (Page 3) Updated update in post #20 (Page 2) Updated picture in post #11 Hi everyone, long time since i've posted a pirate creation. This ship was inspired by several very nice ships on here and using the tumblehome instructions from Captain Green Hair. It's build on only two midsections and using the new brown hulls rather than old brown as I didn't have the bricks to fill the gaps in old brown. I've tried to give it a realistic appearance whilst at the same time keeping a lego feel. It doesn't have rigging because i'm just not willing to donate the time and effort to tie all those knots when I don't think I will be keeping the ship long term; it was more of an experiment with ship building so I can move to bigger projects in the future. Anyway, enough talking, here are some pictures: There are more close-up shots in the gallery when moderated. HERE On deck are the Commander (A ship of this side was captained by a Lieutenant acting as Commander rather than a Captain), two Midshipman, two marines and assorted crew. I've taken a slightly fictional angle and used black rather than dark blue for the officers because it complements the hats and looks rather nice Comments, criticism, suggests are all welcome!

What modern and old sets be good for a old west themed moc?
Duke replied to wolfwing's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The Prince of Persia sets have a desert setting and tan is probably the best colour to use for that. The Desert Attack set for example has a few tan plates and a nice tan bush, though it is mainly minifigures. -

There are a couple of western figures in the new minifigures range Tribal Hunter: Cowboy: -
Bricklink is great for ordering specific parts but i'd really recommend just getting some sets that you think look interesting and building up your collection like that. It gives you the pleasure of making a set, plus associated minifigs (always useful) and in no time you'll find you've got quite a good collection of parts. If you have a look through peeron at the sets available and make yourself a short list then head over to ebay you'll find most of them crop up on a weekly basis. If you have a bit of time and don't mind waiting then you can monitor the prices for a few days and keep checking/bidding on things until you find a bargain as you almost always can.

Thanks for the further comments and head suggestions, I agree that the caroler head would look good but I don't have one or plans to get one soon. I've added it to my bricklink wanted list of stuff to look out for though . I have ordered a few of the new series of minifigs from Lego so i'll have to see if I get a mime amongst them and if so then i'll try out the face Sandy suggested.

Very nice, good to see a large MOC encorporating one of the new minifigures and you've done the landscaping very well. Is that bearskin rug an official piece? I feel like i've seen it before (possibly in one of your older MOCs). Oh and of course I like the missing link and evolutionary line-up
-
Very funny indeed! I liked all the names and especially Hedwig and Lockhart as D2 and 3PO
-
Thanks for the comments everyone, any suggestions on how to improve the minifigure? I wanted to keep it quite simple.

I built a very basic bit of an art gallery setting the other day and today I managed to think of something to put in it. The people aren't wonderful since I don't normally do any present day MOCs but anyway the focus is on the painting. Here's the original for reference: Overview Shot: Angled Shot: Without people: There are a couple of close-ups in the gallery when it's moderated. Hope you like it
