[FAIL] Mini Fast car
Lego Nerd replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Could you move the servo or the rack to in front of the wheels? You could then sink the battery box lower into the chassis. -
In the videos that Richard showed above, you can see that the Chinese parts are low quality, but I hope never to have any of these parts in my collection. The big problem with these is that they took real Lego sets, copied them, and are now selling them as their own. Lego took the work to design the sets, invent the pieces, etc. and this company simply comes along and makes their own, without compensating Lego for their trouble. Buying Chinese (or any other countries') knock-offs is not something I would do.

Thanks a lot! Brunojj1's 458 is a great model. Now for how I made the pictures: I used a dark room, and put this on a table above the car: -

I experimented with some lighting and a dark room, and got these: I'm quite pleased with how these came out. -

One temporary workaround is to use archive.org and look at shapshots of technicopedia.com . It doesn't have a snapshot of the most recent updates, nor does it have all the pictures, but the technic fundamentals page was complete. -

Hey Blakbird, technicopedia.com is giving the 403 forbidden error message when I visit it. I hope it gets back online, because it's one of my favorite sites, and I've shared it with friends. Thanks for all the hard work you've done to make it. -

They can be, but Porsche only makes the GT3 RS with the PDK Dual-clutch semi-automatic gearbox, because they shift faster. -
[WIP] 1963 Corvette

Maybe you could put the HOG right in front of the 3x13 curved panel in the middle? I noticed that there's already a small gap, so placing an axle to axle connector upright in the gap could work. The work you've done with the new panels is impressive -
The review is very well done! (I hope this means you're doing better?) I found the speed build quite interesting, too. I think that it has so few pieces relative to modern sets because the ones it has are primarily bigger. Also, does the pneumatic hose count as one piece, because you have to cut it? When you said it would be "unfair" to judge this set by modern standards, did you mean unfair to modern sets?

The only image I found of it was a confidential one, but you can see it here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=547692 And here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99511&st=225

[MOC] ICARUS Supercar
Lego Nerd replied to Madoca 1977's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As far as I know, there are two L-motors per SBrick. Try looking at step 77, where it shows all the wires color coded. The four L-motors have the trans-red 1x1's on them, the two lights have the trans-clear 1x1's on them, and the servo has nothing. Then look at where he puts them in steps 82-84. Viewed from the top, they should be: L-motor L-motor L-motor servo Light Light L-motor Does that help?- 220 replies

Good point. Something else to consider is that the GT3 RS has less steering angle than the regular GT3. I tried to find the steering lock of the real GT3 RS, but couldn't. However, I was able to find specs of a different car. Its steering ratio is 21.4:1, and has 2.9 turns lock to lock, meaning that for each full rotation of the steering wheel its wheels turn ~16.8deg, and the maximum steering angle would therefore be ~24.4deg. I can't say what the Porsche has, but since it's a track-focused car I would expect its steering ratio to be smaller (quicker steering), with maybe 2.7 turns lock to lock. Even the rear wheel steering is rather limited: the RS has 1.5deg maximum angle, whereas the normal GT3 had 2.8deg. But the rear steer at low speeds would enable the car to make tighter turns with more limited front steering angle compared to normal cars. The video was well done, and enjoyable. The mix of vehicles was great, too! (I wish there was more footage of the 10x10, though )

Yes, the other axle is driven, at an increased speed relative to the normal drive axle. (His video shows this)

I think this set could be a great one for modding. Since all Porsches have the same overall look, it could be easy to change this to a different one, e.g. the Targa. Another idea: since it's built in modules, could it, like 8448, be an easy car to build your own body on top of? So the question for Jim: does the transmission have an output that could be sent to the front easily, like 8448's? (I always enjoy reading your reviews, by the way.)
