REVIEW: 70165 Ultra Agents Mission HQ
GregD replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I think this is a great set, the whole Ultra Agents theme is excellent, but this is the best one. Even though I voted for this one, the 8635 set was a huge step forward for Lego and more iconic - for me it's the one set I would choose that really marked the start of a huge improvement in sets and theme development. -
I remember that on Farran's level I found the last brick on the extreme right hand side, halfway up the screen. I won't be buying any Elves sets, but I think Lego have done a great job with this theme, story, characters, colours. It was the natural progression to have minidolls in an adventure, and will be interesting to see if any dangers await Elvendale in future years.

Top 3 - GG, PR, FB (since FB was the first one I built it's special to me - also table tennis table is the best interior piece of all modulars). Middle 3 - GE, PS, TH - although TH is stunning from the outside and the town is not the same without it. When I saw first pictures of TH released that's what convinced me to start and finish collecting all the modulars. Bottom 3 - PC, CC, MS - although again I like exterior of PC, and I like the colours of MS and CC. DO will probably be in my middle bracket - I think it's a great modular but missing a little wow factor (although not possible to have wow factor in every single building...)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
GregD replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The Pet Shop takes up only one third of two buildings in the set. I think Detective Agency will be similar and upstairs of a shop (my guess is fishmonger!). I think they've only called it Detective Agency to help advertise it, as it will be slightly hidden away... -
This is....... tremendous! Congratulations on making this, it's a perfect modern Snack Bar with plenty tributes to the old one. 675 was a very emotional set for me, one of my all time favourites - I had planned to add to my modular town somehow, but might copy parts of the way you've done it - great roof!

What a great set! Love the glow in the dark pieces, that's a really nice touch... Kind of had a full idea of what to buy this year, but might just end up getting this too...

REVIEW: 71005 LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Simpsons Series
GregD replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Licensed
Is that a new colour for Grampa's torso... anyone know? Can't work out what it is, looks like kind of a light sand red... Figures are good, I won't collect them though, I stopped at S11. Been nice just to get a few Lego Movie figures for parts, and will pick up 2 or 3 of Simpsons ones.- 118 replies

Hi LegoDr - here's link to my Bakery pics from last year: - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84912&hl=%2Bmodular+%2Bbakery
-
This is mine - 10 altogether including 2 custom ones - medium lavender GG as a bakery, and 2nd PS changed into a toy shop. Only got room for 2 more at the moment, 1 of which is the PR on its way as of now, and I need to develop an anti-dust plan. My plan is to incorporate all Lego colours, past and present, into my modular street somehow. Managed to get around 40 colours not used in regular modulars into my bakery and toy shop. Got 42 colours to go! Have the pieces but anyone's guess how I can get a metallic green bionicle arm to not look out of place... Would like to display them in such a way that you can see the backs of them too, since that does them justice - can look a bit flat all in a line.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures - The LEGO Movie Series Discussion
GregD replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
In 2 minds whether to get this series - I've been an avid minifig collector with 3 sets of each series so far. But this is a change of theme now... Love the fact there's a Lego Movie coming out, it should be great - and no problem with a minifig series coming it to promote it. Some of the figs really look great. I think on balance my minifig collection will end now, but might get a few of this series. My collection was going to end on series 13 anyway as I have 0% interest in Lego Simpsons. Mini-panda can go in the modular toy shop I'm building... -
If there is to be a new colour then I'm going to hazard a guess at light flesh bricks, since a lot of buildings in Paris are light coloured. Although tan would probably be more accurate. And olive green for the awning...

Simpsons Collectable Minifigures aka Series 13 (non-official term)
GregD replied to kasmca's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I thought for a while the CMF would run out eventually, they won't want to bring out too many series which would eventually lead to a dip in ideas/quality, but that the blind packets would always continue in some form, maybe not quite so regularly, but could be done with some of the other licences/ranges. At the point of series 8 I thought they were running out of ideas, but then 9,10,11 were very good (apart from the lady robot!) Would be surprised if they actually named these series 12 and 13 for Lego Movie and Simpsons - would be disappointed if they did. But even if they did call these 12 and 13 I would stop collecting since that's a clear change. I wasn't interested in the Olympics figures. One figure they are missing though is a fireman - surely they can't miss a fireman out! -
Series 1 and 2 had a smaller production than series 3 onwards, and I believe S1 production was a good bit less than S2, so it's really just a case of supply and demand. Even when a zombie goes to auction starting at 0.99 it ends up at about the buy it now price or sometimes a little more. Would say there are not as many zombies available as there were before so I think they can really only continue to go up. Could be another 50% more expensive in another year at a guess. Nurse and zombie were the rarer ones from S1 along with wrestler, clown and some others - 5 crash test dummies for every 3 clowns for example in every box. Spartan was rarer in S2, as well as being sought after for armies. These are a great collection, and just like the early modular buildings can command high prices. You possibly get more value by buying a complete series 1 set - then individually sell the ones you already have?

Thanks LT - sure will have a look into deep linking tomorrow night, I never heard of it until now, just did a quick search. Totally useless with photos - couldn't even get my profile pic the right way up!

http://www.flickr.co...os/97858998@N07 Here are some pictures of my modular bakery, it's my first own build. Since it's copied from GG can hardly call it an MOC. Really makes me appreciate real MOCs and the huge amount of work and obtaining the bricks, since even the bakery on the ground floor took a lot more planning than I had thought. So I wasn't content with the full modular collection, I wanted to go further (like many others it seems) - I'm fairly useless at designing my own so looked around for instructions to buy, but in the end felt that an actual Lego design would fit better on the street, even though it's a double (GG is my favourite). Changed colours and a number of little things here and there. Mostly thanks to minifigs I created a number of firsts for the series: - Medium lavender for front of building First blonde hair (bright light yellow) Construction worker Old female hair with pigtails Medium azure for woman's trousers Dalmatian, seagull Bright pink on veranda and entrance Adding the minifigures was the fun part with so many torsos and colours to choose from now - think there's a good chance either the dalmation or seagull will be in future Lego modulars. Chose a bakery for a few reasons - since they have a winter bakery and a Friends bakery I didn't think a modular bakery will be any time soon. Also the pieces - breadsticks, cupcakes, pretzels etc are easily available. And a street needs a bakery - so if a bakery comes out in future... - oh well, they'll just have to be in competition with each other. And I'm happy to have the chef figure from 1979 snack bar set 375. The middle floor and top floor interior are at best average - I'm limited with bricks, but happy with it - more residential space. I think sand purple would have been the best building colour (retired colour from Life on Mars), but bricks to do it are just not available - also considered sand red, medium dark flesh masonry pieces, and olive. Only coloured the front of course, dark bluish gray on the other sides. Straight after I built it I thought the medium lavender was too garish, but it's settled on me and have now added it to my street... Got the bug now, my next modular I might even try to design myself, or copy little things I like from other modulars - choosing between fishmonger, butcher and toy shop. Thanks for looking...

Just been trawling through the modulars from this contest. Think is one is fantastic, this would have got most of my votes if I had been on the forum then. Think it fits with the actual modulars the best, and think that a corner police station would be best way for TLG to go once they get round to releasing a police station. Staircase at the front is great, very effective. Saw another police station modular a few months ago which had the chima wings and eagle head on the front, that was a great idea.

I hummed and hawed a bit before getting Market St but it definitely fits well in the street - there are a lot of unique, clever design features in it, even though it's just a half size one. Once Lego put it in the mini-modulars that kind of clinched it for me. So it is both a non-modular and a modular, both opinions are valid I think!

Not even train related, but just last week I finished my bricklinked Market Street, but ended up at close to the going rate on eBay - I had something like 15 orders - however set feels more personal to me, and also I specified nearly all new bricks which has made a big difference to how the set looks for me. A very small percentage of 'new' bricks I bought are not new. For expensive rare bricks I settled on used ones where the seller noted good condition, and they were truthful comments. Hope that helps a little!

Maybe since we know there'll be a police station at some point that could come out as a second one that year - seems like people will be disappointed to wait a whole year just for a police station. I agree there should be a couple of shops first before it comes out... I vote for florist next.

That's 8 modular buildings now and I can hardly find one fault with any of them. Each design is fantastic, the colours are amazing, each one has its own unique character and they are even better side by side. The minifigures and their colours are really well thought out. I love the fact they use the traditional smiley face for each figure - that was a great decision for a classic range. Here are some thoughts for what I'd like to see in future years, interested to know what others feel: - Know there was rumours of a florist last year - maybe that's for next year then, but with the Friends sets and new flower moulds, and added colours, pinks, lavender, bright blue, bright yellow this could have an amazing window display, and street display too. Would really like it if they brought back the old female hair with sidey-ways pigtails from 70s and 80s - maybe it could be blue for one of the children, or an extrovert librarian! I don't have a problem with lots of residential space - only MS, GG, PS have residential, but would be nice to see a dentist upstairs of the bakers for example, or a lawyers office, or even a private detective haha! I hope to see more shops over time - it doesn't get boring, it just adds to the street, so fishmonger, baker, butcher, bookshop, antiques etc are all welcome. There's been talk of post office, bank, library, medical centre - there's a lot to look forward to really - I'd like to see a doctor's surgery/medical centre, but top of the list would be a police station - they can't not do a police station, it's just a matter of when - I trust they'll make an amazing job of it. Finally I'm OK with the one per year ratio, two per year is a bit much, but maybe two coming out in some years might work... Best Lego theme ever!

My plans for 2013 have changed in the last 2 days: - Was collecting LOTR (not Hobbit stuff), but the Chima sets and story just look better and better each time. I think they're great, and with 3 new tribes to come yet. Always have liked what Lego do, I feel like I want to stick to a 100% produced Lego theme and not a licensed theme. So I think it's goodbye LOTR and go for Chima. Planning on Horizon Express, Palace Cinema and series 9/10/11 of the CMFs. And I like the new cement mixer, probably get that too for a shelf somewhere...
