Thank you very much for that information, Navy Trooper Fenson! Well, that's right. But better a bleary-eyed Tauntaun than die in the polar waste of Hoth! Still more than 4,5 weeks until we'll supposably get pics of the 10198 Tantive 4. Klaus-Dieter

I agree with you, Etzel! Of course a new Elven theme would be part of the current "Castle" theme and therefore there will surely not only elves be included in these sets. My guess is that TLG would take elves as the good fraction and orcs as the bad fraction plus some forest houses similar to the them in the forestmen sets and of course much war stuff. But since this year is already the third year of the current "Castle" line I could even well imagine that TLG ends with this year this current "Castle" theme (like they did in the past with several Castle themes after some years, too) and offer a complete different "historical" or historical theme to us in 2010 (supposably Greeks fantasy, but hopefully Western) and then bring back the Castle theme firstly in 2011 or 2012. Plus TLG did not satisfy all their customers' wishes - so it might even be that they won'T release an Elves theme although there are many people which want one (me surely not included). This doesn't sound very realistic to me but it is imo a possibility. Klaus-Dieter

If you could revive any one dead theme...
Klaus-Dieter replied to Darth Legolas's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Great to see that so many people would like to see a comeback of Western (like I of course do, too) - I counted 25 only in this topic! I partly agree with you, Tom Bricks, Natman8000 and Peppermint_M. If TLG brings back either the Ninja theme or the Western theme (which I would highly prefer over Ninja) it would be the best for both - TLG themeselves but even their customers - to release re-designed sets (meaning sets which were already there but which get a new face with new minifigs, new accessory and perhaps even different architecture etc.) but even completly new sets (meaning sets which haven't been there before). Let me give you an example for each theme: Ninja: There I see some problems with really "new" sets since - like you already mentioned - the most things you can think of were already done in the first line. But only think about some approvements: E. g. we got the emperor's castle - but it was much too small and the interior was plus minus sero. If TLG releases a new emperor's castle which would be much bigger and would even include a throne room with a throne and maybe even some sort of these Samurai knights which have barred helmets surely JFOLs as well as AFOLs would buy this set since AFOLs would be happy because they would get a more detailed version with perhaps even some new minifigs and JFOLs would be lucky since they would get one at all. Western: Here the possibilites are nearly endless and everybody who says that a comeback of the Western theme - if done correctly - would be no success is really crazy. The best would here be to bring back some of the old sets as re-designs (not as re-releases!) since a sheriff's office, a bank and perhaps even a fort are these sets which have to be included in a new Western theme since they are those things of which a child immediately thinks of when it hears Wild West. If TLG does not include these sets it's imo clear that these theme would be no success if its sets should be sold in regular toy shops. But this is not all since we - mainly AFOLs - are there, too. And many of us already own many of the old sets. So for us bringing back only the sets which we already own but in a new style would nevertheless be not attractive enough for us (and so even many of us wouldn't buy these sets). But the point is that there are so many sets of which you can think of and which TLG ununderstandable let out in their last Western theme that a new Western theme could last a whole decade. Only think of a stage coach, a saloon, a post office, a train with train station, a covered waggon, etc. which are in high demand among us and for which we surely would pay even a lot of money to get them. Plus the argument of no possibility for a fantasy theme is here wrong. If TLG is sceptical about whether a new Western theme would work well or not since there are no fantasy creatures included like in the current uggly "Castle" theme - why not releasing a Ghost Town theme?! Ideas for TLG going more "green"
Klaus-Dieter replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Again I must say that it is great to see so many people being interested in this theme! Thank you very much for participating, voting and sharing your great ideas! Thanks, TheBrickster! I agree with that it isn't Lego's duty to educate children. But on the other hand think about which influence TV and video games have on older children. So it's not far away to say that the contents of Lego sets influence younger children - not in that huge and surely not knowingy but nevertheless. And when you look at some current sets you even see that TLG wants to "educate" children (which is imo really not wrong). Only have a look at the great set 7641 City Life: The skateboarding kid wears a helmet. But in reality I only very, very seldom see kids with helmets on a skateboard. So why should TLG add a helmet and not a baseball cap or simply a hair piece to the kid minifigure? My thought is that TLG wants to show children that when you skateboard you should wear a helmet (and that because of reasonable reasons). I, too, think that already releasing some (City) sets with more "green" but not in the meaning of power meant indegriedants would help: more trees, bushes, flowers and animals, perhaps even recycle dustbins. And imo the new Farm theme is already something going in that direction. Klaus-Dieter -
Thank you very much, Alywin! So here my thoughts about City 2010: Klaus-Dieter
-
Thank you very much for that great find, Tom Bricks! When I read through this file I think that sets which are very supposably that TLG will release them next year (because of the high demand) could be: -post office -bank -grocery with delivery van -taxi station -hotdog Impulse set -zoo -public tranportation center wit helevated train (looking similar to the Airport Shuttle set) with hamburger stand as the ToysRUS fans' choice set -big family house with detailed interior as a S@H Exclusive -water tower as S@H addition to 10194 Emerald Night What do you think? I totally agree with you, fujikuro, ADHO15 and RoflWafls! A Obi-Wan's Home, a Luke's home and a new big Mos Eisley Cantina are absolutely necessary and would be absolutely amazing - so would do a new bigger and closed version of Jabba's Palace for our Tatooine layouts! That's a great proposal, ADHO15! I only miss one very important element which belongs to the tusken raiders and which has to be included in a Luke's or Obi Wan's home set: a bantha! As for a bigger Mos Eisley set I don't see a chance that it'll cost less than 100 Euros/Dollars if we want to gave it bigger and more detailed and with even some more new minifigs included. But imo that would be the money worth if TLG does it right. But for next year I regrettably don't see a chance that we'll get some Tatooine sets since these do only appear in episode 4 and episode 6. And since 2010 is the 30 years celebration of The Empire Strikes Back (ESB) and since the most sets will regrettably be from CW and all that other TV stuff there surely won't be many OT sets anyway (supposably a new Slave 1 (especially since there are now these new jetpacks), a new Cloud City, perhaps a TIE Fighter or TIE Bomber or Snowspeeder and if we've got much luck (which I don't think) a Wampa's Cave). But since the license will at least be until 2011, there's the chance that TLG offers some Tatooine sets to us in 2011! And what concerns some new fleesh Obi-Wan and Luke minifigs it's imo clear that there has to be at least one set next year in which Luke appears (since TLG ununderstandable missed him this year - and he's the main character about whom all the OT is about!)! Klaus-Dieter
-
I'm sure that whatever historical or "historical" theme TLG will release next year they will offer us some or at least one Impulse set/-s or at least a minifigure collection set, too, mikey. If the new theme is Greeks fantasy then there'll surely be a hoplite Impulse set - simply because TLG knows that their fans want it and because it will sell very well. If the new theme is Western then there'll surely will be some little sets like in the last Western theme - e. g. a bandit with a wheel gun - and/or a soldier Impulse set (if TLG included some sort of a soldiers' fort, too). ... Thank you very much, legomilk! Btw: Since TLG released this and last year always in January an exclusive set, do you think that there'll be an exclusive set in January 2010, too? And if so, to which theme do you think it'll belong? Pirates, again Castle, City or the supposable new "historical" or historical theme or some other theme? Klaus-Dieter

10196: Grand Carousel/Merry Go Round discussion
Klaus-Dieter replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Town
Thank you very much for the pics and the information, Alywin, legomilk and Thomas! Against the most of you I must say that I'm very disappointed about this set! When I heard of a merry-go-round set I thought about a fairground set in design similar to the awesome 10184 Town Plan with a merry-go-round, a candy stand, a shooting gallery, some nice minifigs and perhaps even one vehicle. But what do we get instead?! A totally overpriced, oversized and overdetaield self-built looking carrousell with absolutely ordinary minifigs, no accessory and a useless sound chip! You can't add it to your City layout since it is much too big and there are no additional fairground sets together with which you could build up a lovely fairground. It's a big Creator set for those which have got a lot of money and which want to add something on top of an empty frame or cupboard. Some fairground sets in the City theme would be absoletly  - but this set is really nothing I want and so will not buy, too! The idea for this set was a - the outcoming is regrettably a ! Klaus-Dieter -
Thank you very much for the new pics, Bricks and mutley777! I can't await to see the review of the Endor Bunker, mutley777! For interior I could think of a little floor with blasting away door, escape pod, cockpit and some sort of lounge or other room with some seats and a table. I could well imagine that there will be a tilting handle on the top to let the vehicle "fly" (like in the Venator and the Republic Dropship). I totally agree with you, KimT! There surely won't be more than eight minifigs. Since TLG already includeded that many new SW minifigs this year in the sets and since the AT-OT set includes only two different minfigs (and it's surely less expensive to include eight minfigs of which there are only two different types in contrast to five totally different minifigs) I even highly doubt that we'll see eight minifigs in the Rebel Blockade Runner. I could well imagine that TLG only includes the five minifigs which are absolutely necessary (Leia, R2-D2. C-3PO, a Rebel Trooper and Captain Antilles) - but no additional one. This catalogue scan shows us that the At-OT set is 40 ? and the RBR 25 ? - which means that it will not be 250 Euros/Dollars but somewhere between 150-200 Euros/Dollars - I'd guess 200 Euros/Dollars. And that even means that it will surely not be bigger than the UCS version. In contrary - since it will imo at least include 5 minifigs (Leia, R2-D2, C-3PO, a Rebel Trooper and Captain Antilles), some interior and some action elements which the UCS version did not include plus you have not to forget the inflation since the release of the UCS version - it will perhaps even be smaller than the UCS version. So hopefully we won't get such a flop as the Repblic Cruiser which had no interior and an absolutely to small cockpit in which only one minifig was aible to sit! Klaus-Dieter

I don't know. I thought that TLG will supposably wait til BrickFair. But if we trust the rumours it's highly supposable that there'll be a Castle jubilee set and a CC styled building as Exclusives appearing still this year, too. So if TLG shows the merry-go-round and RBR tomorrow TLG would nevertheless have something to reveal on BrickFair. But actually I think not since rumours said that the RBR will be sold in September - and that is (at least at TLG's point of view) still a long while until then. Otherwise the RBR might perhaps even be for preorder in the beginning of June - then it would be possible that they reveal it tomorrow. But like already said: I don't think. In any case we'll know tomorrow whether we get pics or not. Klaus-Dieter
-
I am not sure, ADHO15. It may be very similar the old UCS version but with interior and minfigs - against which the price speaks since it won't be as expensive as 10195 (I think it might be about 200 Euros). It may even be a downscaled version with only very few interior and only the most important minifigs (Leia, R2-D2, C-3PO, Antilles and a Rebel Trooper) - which would imo firstly be too less for the supposable price of around 200 Euros and secondly it would be quite disappointing. But before we haven't seen pics that stays a mystery. But since TLG will reveal the merry-go-round set already tomorrow I think and hope that they'll reveal the RBR at BrickFair - so still six weeks to wait. Klaus-Dieter

That's a great and very interesting topic, ApophisV! Regrettably I firstly noticec some days ago because captaincreek commented on it. I wouldn'd say that Playmobil rules Lego out. But it's right that there are some cases in which Playmobil does better than Lego - but I wouldn't generalise that. Cons: 1. Playmobil's current Ghost Pirates theme and the current Castle theme are as ugly as Lego's current "Castle" theme (except the awesome 10193 MVV). So there is no improvement. 2. Lego's new Pirates theme looks in historical regard very good! Pros: Mainly with its Roman theme but even its Egypt theme Playmobil showed and still shows that historical sets do not necessarily have to include many fantasy elements and fantasy creatures in order to sell well . And they set measures with their historically very accurate minifigs, accessory, vehicles and buildings. That pro point of Playmobil concerning historical sets is imo what TLG regrettably seems to have not realised too much until now. The excepption is the new great Pirates theme. And so I wish that TLG will offer us some historical sets with more accurateness and without fantasy creatures in the future! Klaus-Dieter

Rediscover the bustling streets of Classic Town CONTEST
Klaus-Dieter replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Town
Oh, very nice prices! They are not originally Town sets but their design is very similar to them - because of which I even like them all. Absolutely right. So I am that modest to only want to win the second price. I totally agree with you, svelt_corps! Come on, some more entries would be actually nice! To have only that few entries to vote is really disappointing! (Please don't get me wrong: not because of their quality - in contrast they are all great! - but because of the quantity of entries. ) Klaus-Dieter -
Great work, Bonaparte! So we'll see some good pics already tomorrow! I would have thought that we'll minimum have to wait til Brickfair - but now I don't have got to - great! Klaus-Dieter
-
I totally agree with you, Sandy! Who doesn't want to see pics and get information about new sets is not forced to visit EB and to read through the mentioned topics. If someone firstly wants to be promised by new sets when he or she sees the customer's catalogue or the sets in the stores or on S@H nobody keeps him or her from that. I at least am glad that pics and information leaked! That's always better for planning for what sets you want to buy or not. And if you firstly see new sets in the official catalogue or in shops and you really like them but didn't know of them before and therefore bought some other sets before and now have no money for the new sets you are very disappointed - and I think TLG wants to have its customers not disappointed but happy. Btw: I think we should stop this discussion since it's boring and useless. Let's better discuss about the sets themselves. Klaus-Dieter
-
I totally agree with you, svelte_corps. At least legomilk's list says that there will be two new themes in 2010 - Disney not included. On the one hand I - like already stated - have my doubts about there being a new historical or "historical" theme next year. But on the other hand: If TLG really relases two new themes in 2010 (which very supposably won't be licensed themes since there'll be already the Disney license and the SW license) then there has to be one new "historical" or historical theme. Only think about if TLG relases a Rockband theme (I really am not familiar with that - but it sounds very unsupposably). But what should then the second theme be?! We already have got all regular themes such as City, Creator, SW, Technic, Racers, ... and even enough fantasy themes (the current "Castle" theme and the Power Miners theme) and SF themes (Agents and Space Police) which will surely - if not new sets then at least the sets of this year - be available in stores. So another SF or fantasy theme would imo make no sense since then there would be too many too similar themes and sets for sale. And I simply can even not think about any other new non-"historical" or non-historical theme which isn't available at the moment. Ok, perhaps Space Port or Aqua Mission. But the new Aquazone theme of 2007 was a big letdown (it actually was too bad with all these mutated sea animals) and a real Aqua Mission theme would strictly be counted to City - as Space Port does. But for City legomilk already wrote that there'll be new themes. So what leaves?! In contrast there would be many historical themes - comebacks (Western, Indians, Adventures) and totally new ones (Romans, Egypts, Greeks, ...). So I really don't know, too. But since there shall be two new themes in addition to the Disney line I tend to say that there'll be a new or brought back historical theme among them. From where do you know that one of the new themes will be a good vs. bad theme with primarily vehicles? We already have got Power Miners this year and Agents this and last year. But now to next year's Star Wars sets since we at least know that SW will continue. I firstly read yesterday that next year will be the 30ths birthday of The Empire Stirkes Back (EBS). I really don't understand why TLG offered the Echo Base to us this year since this takes away the chance for a big and detailed Echo Base next year. So my thoughts on OT sets for 2010: January/February: (one or two OT sets) Snowspeeder Wampa's Cave and/or TIE Fighter and/or TIE Bomber July/August: (two OT sets) Slave 1 Twin Pod Cloud Car and/or X-Wing (Dagobah) and/or Wampa's Cave and/or TIE Fighter and/or TIE Bomber September Exclusive: (one OT set) Cloud City I bet that we'll at least will see a comeback of the Slave 1 and some sort of Cloud City - about whether it'll be only the carbonite freezing chamber (like proposed in the fans' choice at TRU last year) or a facile design (like the last version of the Cloud City) or the Cloud City as a big and detailed set. But even as a big and detailed set there could be two different versions: One for about 200-250 Euros and one in the size of the 10188 DS for around 400 Euros. I'd prefer a closed version with which you can all play scenes from the movie (like in the older version of the Cloud City) but which looks more finished and closed and with some more details and mainly minimum one included ughunaut - so it'll supposably be in the price range of 200-250 Euros. But either a high-detailed version for around 400 Euros or an only facile design would not be my interest. What do you think? Klaus-Dieter
-
This actually is a MOC, Raphy. But nevertheless 10198 is a real existing set number - namely the Rebel Blockade Runner. Klaus-Dieter
-
It's great that we now finally get the RBR! Like RoflWafl I highly doubt (and even hope not) that it'll be epsisode 3 style, Ras. Why should it be that bad when it is in minifig-scale, darkrebellion?! I could well imagine that TLG simply took the UCS version, let out some exterior details but include some interior, an escape pod and some minifigs. I persoanlly really like it to be minifig-scaled and with minifigs (and hopefully even some great interior) included since UCS sets don't interest me. As for the minifigs I don't think that we'll see a Vader and some Stormies since the price (which is less than the AT-OT set) tells us that there supposably won't be many minifigs. Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, a Rebel Trooper and Captain Antilles have to be included - that's clear. But will there be some more minifigs? Perhaps Lieutenant Pello Scrambas and/or the silvern protocol droid? - That would be awesome! When you look at its price it's less than the AT-OT set - supposably 200 Euros. So I hope it nevertheless won't be too small and that it will include some great interior and at least two new minifigs. Well, I think that TLG will reveal it at BrickFair (like last year the 10188 DS), don't you think? Klaus-Dieter
-
Thank you very much for that information, Etzel! Btw: I looked again at this catalogue site where the merry-go-round appears and notice that I told something wrong: The three new regular Castle sets are there. But I can't see the MVV. So I'd say that nevertheless there is hope for another Castle Exclusive in fall. Klaus-Dieter
-
No, it's not a ferris wheel - it's a huge merry-go-round. The baseplate seems to look to me like 32x32 in green. Btw: I think that these won't be all Exclusives we'll see in the second half of this year. Only remember the rumours about another exclusive Castle set and the rumours about a CC styled building. And it's exciting that the three new regular Castle sets don't appear in that catalogue, too. So there is hope for another Caslte Exclusive and (for those who like) even a new CC styled building. Klaus-Dieter
-
Now I saw the pic of the merry-go-round (sorry for the wrong spelling before ): It looks very, very huge and there seem to be a lot of minifigs included (I count eight minifigs). But the price is very huge, too. Until now I don't know whether I'll buy it or not since the pic is too blurry. It isn't very supposably that TLG will release more fairground sets. And only one merry-go-round but no candy stand, shooting gallery, ferris wheel, ... doesn't look that good. Apart from that I won't have the money anyway since I firstly want to get the RBR (of which I did only find a pic with a blue background with nothing on it - was that before like that, too, or did someone see the RBR really?) and that's a big hole for my wallet anyway. And since it is that hugeI fear that it won't go in size with the regular City sets anyway. Well, let's see. Klaus-Dieter
-
Oh, what a pity - I missed these pics! I hope that someone of them who saw (and surely saved them ) will be that nice and pm me. Rebel Blockade Runner sounds awesome! That's finally what we're waiting for years! And the price of 250 Dollars (supposably even 250 Euros) is what I thought it would be like. The marriage-go round set sounds very interesting. Without pics it's hard to judge. Is there only a marriage-go-round in the set or even some other fairground stands (would be awesome)? Are there minifigs included in this set or is it only a Creator set? Klaus-Dieter
-
Regrettably I have some vague information of which I conclude that there has to be a not Western theme in 2010 and from which I conclude (even in combination with the Minotauris board game) that there'll be a Greeks theme. But perhaps my conclusions are even wrong (at least I hope so). Seeing TLG bringing back the classic themes - or let

Ideas for TLG going more "green"
Klaus-Dieter replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thank you very much for that information, Eilif! I didn't know that TLG already resized the boxes - good job, TLG! Nevertheless the changes can not be too big - I indeed did buy only very few sets until now (you can see in my signature) since the most of the sets I want are firstly comming out in summer. But at the sets I bought until now I regrettably must say that - apart from the Farm set which I didn't open yet but about which size I was a bit iritated since it looked a bit strange in comparison to the other sets of the same price class - I didn't notice any smaller boxes. Mainly the box of the Harvester but even the one of the City Minifigure Collection were totally oversized. But there is hope for improvement! And perhaps it's even better if TLG resizes the boxes not to rapidly. I agree with you, Tyrant. A nuclear power plant would be cool. But in environmental consideration it's not optimal because of the nuclear waste. But what about a nuclear fusion plant (nuclear fusion )? Klaus-Dieter
