  1. Hello everybody! Since all sets of the first half of this year are already out and we've already seen a lot of reviews of the sets of the second half of 2009 we now know - apart from some exclusive sets - nearly all sets of this year. Nevertheless it's regrettably about two months until rumours, information and pics about sets of the first half of next year will appear. So I thought it would be interesting to know what you think we might get in 2010 for new themes and new sets (please stay realistic, this should be no wishlist but a topic where you post what you think we might see next year). So what do you think we might get as new themes and new sets in 2010? Here are my thoughts: Duplo Creator Belville Cars (new licensed Duplo theme - already confirmed) Technic Ferrari Racers Castle Elves theme City Winter theme Shops and/or Housing Area theme (perhaps even with school) Transportation theme (many trucks, perhaps a depot or even a new harbor set) exclusive fans' choice set (already confirmed): either City Square or Public Transportation Center exclusive train set(s) Indiana Jones Toy Story 1-3 (already confirmed) Prince of Persia (already confirmed) Power Miners Bionicle Space Police Pirates Soldiers' Ship additional building for the soldiers big treasure island Greeks or Factory Western set(s) CC styled building Star Wars TIE Fighter Jabba's Palace SLave 1 And Carbonite Freezing Chamber Palpatine's Arrest many CW sets exclusive big CW set UCS set Multimedia and Games Others and Accessory Klaus-Dieter
  2. That's a great and very interesting topic, The Chronicler! Two things I want to mention: 1. If TLG releases a hospital which would in size and included accessory and minifigs be similar to last year's police station it would be surely a success! I bet that the reason for why hospitals until now weren't sold that good was simply that they were too little. Imo it would be much better if TLG does not release a whole new hospital line but a big hospital set which already includes an ambulance and a doctor's car. 2. Nevertheless I fear that TLG won't release a new hospital in the next year since TLG surely thinks (because of the not so much sold hospital from 2006) that JFOLs (and AFOLs) aren't interested in hospitals - which is imo false. Btw: Awesome torsos you designed there, The Chronicler - and welcome to EB! Klaus-Dieter
  3. That's a great and very interesting topic, TheBrickster! What I think: - 2 train cars (a sleeping car and a regular passenger car) this summer/fall as addition to the Emerald Night - no PF trains next year (TLG asked for our input on new City sets for 2010 - and what I see when browsing the web is that trains are not that much proposed plus PF driven trains are much too expensive) - regrettably no train accessory sets (like engine shed, cargo loading station, level crossing etc.) at least as long as there will be new regular sold train sets - regrettably no Western train before we will get a new Western theme - and even then I regrettably doubt it A very pessimistic view but I think that TLG will not release any new train sets - at least not any regular sold train sets next year since I can well imagine City 2010 will be more based on e. g. a winter theme, a transportation (not train) theme and a shop and/or housing area theme. But that's of course what I think. Klaus-Dieter
  4. Thank you very much for the new pics of the Home One set, legoman! I totally have to agree with CopMike and KimT! Of course it can't be denied that the most of us (me of course included) would have prefered to get a whole Mon Cal. ship. But since it's very supposably that we'll get the RBR this year it's comprehendible that TLG can't release the Mon Cal. as a whole ship, too. And it would even be much too expensice to have to pay two big vehicles. And the main locations are included in this set plus we get five totally new and awesome minifigs! And we get a green A-Wing which means that we can use the last version of the red A-Wing nevertheless! Of course the price of this set surely won't be cheap (120 Euros?!) - but you have to think about that new minifigs are the most expensive things for TLG . I at least am lucky with this set and will surely buy it! I really hope that since I must get this awesome Home One set! And btw: Sorry for that late comment on 7754, KimT, but I had no time to comment before. Klaus-Dieter
  5. That's an awesome Western minifig art, Apache! I really it! The paintings on the horse fir perfectly - as well as the ones on the Indian do, too! They are looking very realistic! I really like that the plumes are on the backside of the Indian's head and not on top of his head. Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  6. Yes, with classic design I mean the early Lego castles such as the ones of the Black Falcons, the Lion Knights but even the blue dragon knights (I regrettably don't know the real name of this fraction - with "blue" I of course don't mean drunken ). I'm not that sure. I mean: 1. If it's a/the jubilee set then it has to have really classic contents since it shall celebrate the 30ths anniversary of the Castle line. And so TLG surely would release something in more or less classic style - so supposable (and hopefully) without fantasy creatures. Fantasy creatures appeared in the Castle theme (when you don't count ghosts) the first time in 1993. 2. At the moment (and in the last years) there are already a lot of fantasy related Castle sets for sale - and there is already the Knight's Castle, the Wizzard's Tower and soon the Orc Fortress. So another castle set with many fantasy creatures wouldn't make much sense since there are already and even will be a lot of regular fantasy sets for sale in regular shops. Imo this wouldn't be a great idea - an even not worthy for a jubilee set. But I could well imagine that TLG will enlarge its assortment of Castle related bricks on PaB. I totally agree with you, Lordofdragonss! This seems to be the most supposably to me: Similar to the awesome 10184 Town Plan which orientated on the classic Town Plan set the Castle jubilee set imo will (hopefully) surely be something similar to that, too - a more detailed, with grey bricks and more accessory included set orientated on the classic Yellow Castle. Imo it's now time that TLG gives us a hint what we might perhaps await. For pics or more detailed information it's of course too soon - but at least a hint - please, TLG! Klaus-Dieter
  7. I totally have to agree with TheBrickster: This is a great contest and the entries so far are really great, too! My entry is nearly ready. I glady recived the last parts yesterday. So I'll finish my entry and take some pics of it this weekend and hope to show it here the coming week. Klaus-Dieter
  8. Thank you very much for that great review, svelte_corps! I voted for Above Average  mainly because of the lack of interior accessory. Bus station: - no real seats - the bus sign is only readable on one side + very nice complete design + great street lantern Bus: - no line number in the back - no signs on the dash + awesome exterior deisgn + great interior deisgn Bicycle & skate shop: - to less interior decoration (there should at least be a cash point) - no door + awesome exterior design Pizzeria: - no interior in the attic - only two pizzas - oven for only two pizzas (instead of the opening mechansim TLG could have used the doors from the last version of the mail van and (instead of the mechanism which needs much place) offer place for two pizzas on the top of each other in the oven) - window as stove door?! + nice interior in the guest room + awesome exterior design + three floors big civilian building (the first one ever!!!) + enough minifigs (in comparison to the sets of the last years/decade) + awesome minifigure combination + a kid + a woman I really this awesome set and can't await to buy it. Klaus-Dieter

    Treehouse

That's an awesome MOC, Athos! I really it! The idea is simply perfect - and the conversion of course, too! I really like all the details (e. g. the one child which plays that he is a pirate) and the design of the treehouse itself! That's something very nice which should imo not miss in a City since all the kids living there should have some place to play. Perhaps TLG should think of that, too, when planing new City sets ... Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  10. That's a great Town layout, TheBrickster! The houses are all on their right place - I only would add the stables to the farm and not let it stand seperately. It's really nice to see the Main Street appearing there! Although you already have some of them on your layout I'd perhaps add some more minifigs and cars - but that's my opinion. The train crossing is a very nice addition, too, and adds more realism. Klaus-Dieter
  11. Thank you very much for the pics and the link, Holodoc! Having looked closer at the pics I think the wind turbine isn't that small we all fear. Of course it's only half that big than the Vestas one - regrettably . Nevertheless I'd say: better this small wind turbine than no wind turbine! Plus the transport vehicle and mainls the little escort vehicle are deisgned perfectly! Since I regrettably can't afford the Vestas one I'm really looking forward to buy this awesome set with the transport! (Perhaps TLG will offer us a family house next year so we can add it to the bottom of this wind turbine snd then have something similar to 4999, too. ) Klaus-Dieter
  12. That's an awesome entry, eti! I really it! The interior as well as the exterior of the building is designed perfectly and very realistic! I really like the many details you included: that old lovely tree, a playground, a school bus, a kitchen and a canteen and two classrooms (although I miss the blackboard (or even newer: the whiteboard ) there). The only thing I don't like is 1. that the kids have no legs and 2. that your entry is designed in a very minimalistic design - but that's how CC was. Otherwise it's perfect! Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  13. That's an awesome entry, svelte_corps! I really it! The interior as well as the exterior of the building is designed perfectly and very realistic! The tree, the gate, the fende, the fountain and the foliage plant add a very lovely atmosphere to it! The only thing I don't like is that 1. you entry is based on a movie and 2. that you gave these little creatures brick-built legs. Otherwise it's perfect. Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  14. That's a great and very interesting topic, TheBrickster! This is a very hard question. Or let's say it isn't a very hard question but it's hard to have only one choice to vote for. Nevertheless I'd say the most important thing for me are the Minifigs. European Charm/Design Please correct me if I'm wrong but about some years ago when I browsed Brickset I looked through the old catalogues and I remember that there were a lot of European houses before, too. Use/combination of the traditional Lego color palette Since I have - apart from the new greyish color TLG uses for the weapons in the new "Castle" theme - no problems with the new color palette this is for me no argument. I'd of course be unlucky if the old colors would disappear completely - but as long as the most of them don't that's not that important for me. "Minimalist" design (more with less) This is surely no argument for me! And that's even one point because of which the Classic Town sets have been always not my favourite sets (I do only own one or two very little - but I mean even if I'd have the chance or the will to buy some). Too minimalistic is bad. Imo the more realistic the sets look the better it is - the only thing is that the buildings and mainly the vehicles should nevertheless don't get too big. It's not that the Classic Town sets were absolutely bad - in contrary mainly the architecture of the buildings was even much better and mainly much more varied than nowadays buildings (which look often too much like only functional buildings). But the interior of the buildings was bad (often there was nearly nothing which you could count as interior) and the vehicles looked too simple in comparison to vehicles of the late 80ths and early 90ths. Imo a Classic Town set can not concurate with a that awesome set like 10184 Town Plan and even not with the great 7641 City Life! 4-stud wide vehicles That's simply a big pro of the Classic Town sets since I really prefer 4 stuck wide vehicles over 6 stuck wide. Of course TLG showed us mainly this year that 6 stuck vehicles do not necessarily have to be big and nothing else but that the "6-stuck-wideness" brings even a lot of opportunities for awesome details and more realism. So my complete animus was destroyed and I now accept 6 stuck vehicles as long as they include car doors and awesome details. Nevertheless somewhere in my heart I still stayed fan of 4 stuck wide vehicles and nevertheless like them more like 6 stuck wide. Open back structures That's again a big pro of the Classic Town sets. Open backwalls are 1. cheaper, 2. they make playing much easier, 3. they need less space and 4. it's imo much nicer to be aible to look inside a building without having to put away the roof or other walls. But remark that this was only a development in comparison to the sets before - the open backwalls luckily stayed (apart from a few exceptions) until now. Unique elements/pieces This is one argument, too, which adds that classic atmoephere to these sets. Indeed there were some elements you regrettably can't find in nowadays sets, e. g. the big antenna or some of the great minifig torsos. For my final City layout (and even for my center of my Lego City (which of course mainly will consist of 10184 and a little park) I wanted to add a special street lantern like seen in the classic set Main Street. So the last days I tried to find some simple 2x2 transparent clear bricks - but they seem to have completely disappeared. I'm wondering a lot since when I bought the release of this lovely set in 2003 this brick was included. And on PaB as well as on Ebay you can well find all sorts of transparent bricks - only no transparent clear 2x2 brick. I really don't understand that. So I'll try and search if there is at least one of these bricks left by my father's "collection" of Lego bricks. I think I'll find at least one - but it surely won't look that good and fitting to the nearly new one of the rereleased Main Street set. So I know this problem, too, and so I'd even say that the Classic Town sets were and still are valuable because some of their rare pieces. Minifigs This is the most counting argument for me! The sets before Classic Town appeared contained minifigs, too, but these didn't have moveavle legs and arms and were very simple regarding the color. So the new minifigs were a big improvement! But like with the open backwalls here it's the same: we luckily have minifigs included in all City sets today, too. The torsos imo partly improved from the 70ths until today. But the heads imo didn't. I much more preferd the classic smiling face since it was universal useable. Every minifig had the same face. No, they were no clones but since every minifig had the same face there was no problem with giving a minfig a special character. But today with the many different faces it looks simply bad if you have some minifigs side by side which have the same face since the faces show individual attirbutes. To have some minifigs with different faces if of course a big improvement - but when TLG includes always the same faces or the same torsos in different sets that becomes unrealistic and boring - and it simply doesn't look nice. Another aspect is the number of minifigs. Whereas the count of minifigs in the most of the City sets after the early 90ths up to today's City sets is regrettably very, very minor (apart from some exceptions like in the awesome 10184 Town Plan or the great 7641 City Life), the Classic Town sets included masses of minifigs. And for me the minifigs are the heart of every set - if there are too less minifigs or bad designed minifigs heads and torsos there must be a very attractive other element included in this set that I decide to buy this set. New factor (the sets were a 1st for Lego) Not much to say here since I mentioned this point already with the last points. Nostalgia factor (they came out when most AFOL were kids) I can regrettably only partly agree here since in the 70ths I was not yet born and I can't remember the sets of the 80ths and early 90ths since I was only a young child there (of course now I know these sets - but I can not remember having known them when I was a young child). But I agree that they have a nostalgia factor for me, too. Not very much because they are now that old but supposably because of their so peaceful and lovely atmosphere and supposably because of their high count of minifigs and different architectual buildings - and even buildings which were desgined not only like functional buildings. Abundance of standard bricks (opportunity for lots of alternate creations) That's no argument for me. When I want to build some MOCs I can buy bricks boxes with different bricks and even doors and windows seperately. Simple boxart I think that this is not a that important argument. Nevertheless I want to mention that with the new background of City sets TLG has since 2005 imo the set boxes don't look more attractive than the boxes of the Classic Town sets which had actually no background, Idea Books, Catalogues, & Box Art (provided lots of inspiration) Like the abundance of standard bricks this is no argument for me, too. Overall opportunity for creativity I have to agree here. Since there were not only functional buildings included in these sets, since there were many vehicles included in these sets and since there were so many minifigs included in these sets the opportunity to create something on your own, the possibility to use your fantasy and your talent to build something on your own, was much bigger than with the most of the sets of the last 15 years. This year TLG made - mainly with the new awesome sets in summer - a big improvement forwards and more in the direction of City sets of the late 80ths and early 90ths. So let's hope that this will continue some years! Rarity/Scarcity (never had a chance to purchase) This is not a very important point for me since 1. I bought the very few sets I want some years ago (of coursed used but nevertheless in a very good condition) and 2. since when I look at this year's City summer sets I have the hope that TLG will release some sets similar to the Classic Town sets (of course no rerelases and there even will be many changes - but nevertheless) in the next years and so I'll perhaps have the chance to get some classic looking sets but with more interior in the buildings and more accessory soon. The only thing I wish I'd have is the Cargo Center and the Airport Shuttle. Sorry for the very long comment. But this is imo really a very interesting and even very important theme - so I wanted to write a bit more detailed. I hope somebody will read it (at least some parts of it) nevertheless. The next days (and supposably even weeks) I'll come here only very seldom since semester has begun this week and now there is really much work - so in the next time you won't have to read that detailed comments from me . So have a nice time and see you soon! Klaus-Dieter
  15. That's a great MOC, TheBrickster! I really like it! I personally don't like that minimalistic style. But otherwise it's great - it looks really like a Classic Town set! When I thought about possible sets in the Ideas for new City sets topic I even thought about what should be included in a taxi station set. Some things came to my mind: of course one taxi (or even two), a little office where the drivers answer the phone and have a drink and relax after their work, some minifigs, some foliage plants and some accessory. But I didn't think about a garage - that's a great idea which would make the possible set much more attractive and increase the play value! Very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  16. These are some very nice street scenes, Calvin! The screen looks great and the house with the broken windows looks very nice, too. Very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  17. Great ideas, Clone Commander Assassin! I totally agree with you! These sets would be totally awesome and are absolutely needed (since the first version of the Cloud City was a flop and we regrettably haven't got a Yavin base until now)! So I really hope that TLG will release them soon! Klaus-Dieter
  18. Thank you very much for the pic, legoman! Like already wrote earlier this version of the MF is deisgned absoletely perfect but doesn't interest me. It's not in minifig scale - so it is for me useless. Without wanting to hurt somebody but I did never understand people who buy not minifig scaled sets - and I still do not understand that. Imo that's really not worth the money. But that's my opinion. I totally agree with you, legoman! We already had this rumor about a Tantive 4 last year - and when I'm right I remember one of our former admins (xwingyoda) told us last year that it actually is already designed. And now it's the tenth anniversary of Lego SW and the Tantive 4 is the first ship you can see in the OT and it's the counterpart to the already existing minifig-scaled ISD and there isn't yet a big OT vehicle this year. So if TLG doesn't release it this year then we supposably will firstly see it in 5 or 10 years - or very supposabley even nowhere. I mean: The CW/PT fans get two big vehicles this year (RSD and AT-OT) - so there really has to be a big OT vehicle, too! At least one thing is imo really clear: Since 10195 was released that early this year it's very supposably that we'll see another exclusive and not yet known (or at least not yet confirmed) SW set in summer/fall. Klaus-Dieter
  19. That's a very nice entry, LuxorV! I really like it! A hotel is a great ideaand imo even a must-be-included in a classic set if TLG releases another set similar to the awesome 10184 Town Plan or the great 7641 City Life! Therefore I, too, included a hotel in my entry, too, which I hope I'll be aible to show soon. The building looks very nice - imo only a bit too big and too much Creator-like. But the yellow car looks awesome! Very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  20. These are totally awesome MOCs, Guss! Although you supposably know that I'm really no fan of CC styled buildings I really your MOCs you show here! The architecture of the buildings (mainly the one of the café) look brilliant and very realistic! Plus you added a lot of great details, interior (in the café), accessories, vehicles and minifigs to them! Imo the updated version of the café and the truck are much better! Whereas I don't like the older version of the truck that much the new one looks great. The most I like the swimmingpool with the big tree since these look that and the yellow sports car with car doors. Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  21. That's an awesome MOC of your brother, Peppermint_M! I really it! With its very realistic style, the trailer, the minifig and the equipment it could well be an official set! Only one suggestion: Since this is a MOC based on the emergency theme I'd use a minifig of this theme and not a worker - but supposably your brother didn't have a minifig of this theme he was aible to use. Otherwise it's perfect! The most I like the quadbike itself. Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  22. That's an awesome entry, TheBrickster! I really it! It looks really like a set from the 80ths! There are stunning details you included: a telephone cell, a taxi, a skateboarder and two archtitectual very different houses. The most I like the house with the half timbered work. Very well done! Btw: Does the farmer with the brush burgle the house or does he clean the windows? (Only joking. The window cleaner is a great idea! ) When I look at your great entry I get the impression that the entry I built (and will show after my PaB order hopefully will arrive before the end of the contest since I need these bricks for my entry) looks more like a set from the 90ths but not from the 70ths or 80ths. Klaus-Dieter
  23. That's an absolutely awesome vignette, Thrash! I really it! The architecture looks great and the minifigs are awesome! It looks perfect! The minifigs are designed perfectly - the most I like the legionnaire. They might well be an archetype for some official Lego minifigures! After a new Western theme a Roman theme would be absolutely amazing (if it doesn't include too much fantasy elements)! Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter
  24. I totally agree with you, Ronacanator and CloneCommanderDelta7! A new TIE Fighter in that black-grey style would be awesome! But why shouldn't there be a new TIE Fighter and a new TIE Bomber?! Since TLG redesigned Vader's TIE Fighter in black-grey colors it's really necessary that they'll offer a regular TIE Fighter in this new style to us, too, since otherwise the new re-designed Vader's TIE Fighter would not make much sense. And a TIE Bomber and a TIE Interceptor in this new style would be awesome, too! The only thing which TLG should really not forget when re-designing those sets is to include somthing new - meaning at least one new minifig and perhaps even some new accessory, a new little vehicle or somthing like that! Because if they don't do that then the result is only a "better" rerelease like this year's Darth Vader's TIE Fighter - which is imo not that great since the attractive aspect of re-designs is to get some new minifigs and some new accessory - only because of the new style you don't buy a set. (I only bought the new Vader's TIE Fighter because I really hope(d) that TLG will release a new TIE Fighter next year, too - otherwise I'll sell it in the not yet opened box in some years.) Klaus-Dieter
  25. To the new grey head piece of R2-D2: I like this new head much more than the older version. Of course the grey disturbs a bit. But having the printing not that at the top (like in the older verisons) looks much better and much more realistic. I totally agree with you both, Millacol88 and legoman! The most Lego fans which are proud of all the CW sets (which are without doubts great Lego sets) are the main audience of all that CW movies - meaning mainly JFOLs but not mainly AFOLs. So it wouldn't be wise of TLG to totally concentrate on all that CW stuff and forget all the OT "lovers" like us which surely will spend some money on new sets - or even re-designed sets with new indesgriedants and new minifigs - but which will surely not spend any money on all these CW sets. At least I surely will never buy some of these CW sets - unless I'd be a millinaire (but that surely will regrettably not happen )! Btw: If TLG hopefully releases the long awaited Tantive 4 set this year, when do you think we can await evidence, information and/or pics? Around middle or end of June (like with last year's DS)? Klaus-Dieter
