Pandora

The void. White heat; a glorious inferno, so.. comforting. Then - darkness, soft and velvety, equally comforting and enveloping. Her soul feels it, but her body.... ah, there it is... She almost floats to it, reacquaints herself with it and her senses begin to return. First, hearing. Voices talking - her name. Raised voices, arguing; soft voices, concern. Then smell. Sulphur, brimstone and chemicals and a mix of sweat. The cold hard ground beneath her back.. toes, fingers... The smell is stronger as she feels the kiss on her cheek. Her face. Her eyes can see behind their lids, all she has to do now is open them and... ..she breathes in and blinks around, still disorientated. She takes Hoke and Thothwick's kind hands and stumbles slightly to her feet. She's heard everything. She looks at XX, her eyes filled with sadness and hurt. "You're leaving?" she swallows. Not here, not now, not in front of the others. "You're leaving.. me? After.. everything? You felt it too, you must have. Together, in the void. We're the same - we're linked, we both felt it!" She feels the fire, no, the passion, once more and the rest of the world fades away. "Think of what we could do! Think of what we could be together! Side by side, can you not see?! You said you'd stay, you'd help. Stay with me, please. Stand by me, as I would stand by you. Fight with me, please. Just think of how incredible we could be! Think of what we could achieve together!" He cannot leave, this is ... wrong. He's supposed to be hers and she's supposed to be his. How can he leave? She looks at him again, defiance and hurt burning in her eyes. "You said you'd stay with me." OoC Timezones

"Thank you Cronk; I'll, uhm, do my best to keep that promise." "I'll try to regroup with the other team as soon as I can, and I wish you all the best of luck too. You be careful too." Nyx smiles at her old friend, resisting the urge to hug him, and not wanting to consider this might actually be goodbye. "You've been a good friend Cronk, and I'll see you again soon, I'm sure." "Uhm, thanks Alexis" Nyx manages a small laugh "I'll certainly do my best. Keep going with that assassiney thing, you've clearly got a knack for it." Nyx turns to the rest of the group, most of whom seem annoyed at her leaving. She looks at them as if about to say something, but just shrugs slightly. She walks past Arthur still grimacing on her bedroll and dips her hand into his pack to retrieve a Mead, which she knocks back before anyone says anything. "I'm sure he would mind. If he ever notices, tell him to send me the bill" she mutters to no-one in particular. She looks over her inventory, wishing she could be lucky, blessed, hastened... but that's just impossible. She has no idea what to expect, but something is telling her to go, so go she must, whatever the consequences. She waits with the others, so that they can leave at the same time.

Unfortunately people often believe that surviving to the end is an achievement and are unwilling to sacrifice themselves for that end. To survive to the end through cunning and artful manoeuvring is an achievement, but to do so by sitting back and doing nothing is most definitely not. Vanillas are able to play, and should play, fearlessly. If you play hard and lose you should feel better than by not playing at all and winning.

Nyx listens as everyone speaks. She didn't mean for this to be so.. public. She will always feel bound by her duty, but the draw is almost too much. She speaks quietly. "Cronk, this is so... difficult. I don't believe he would harm me, he's saved my life before, and there are many times he could have killed me if he wished. I know what he says - that he cannot be bought, but what if we could have him as an ally? Please, don't think I don't know the risk I'm taking - with everyone. I do, I really do." There is a lump in her throat now as her emotions flow. She fights internally to keep them at bay. "I know it sounds selfish, but I still believe in him, that he can be good - I've seen it! I am hoping to prevent him opening a spire and possibly gaining us an ally in the process." She sighs, herself confused. She's never required more self-control than now. She could just turn and walk out. Just go. But she doesn't. She looks at the kind face of her Orc friend. "Cronk, you are our leader. If you believe in me at all then give me this chance, but if you say you want me to fight at the Court or with the main party in the sewers, then... I will." She's blinking hard now, angry with herself for being so... weak. The anger is fighting for control, and it's almost too much to take.

Yet Nyx stubbornly refuses to dislike him.

Nyx listens as Vipera speaks, the shrieks almost painful to hear. She turns away as she hears his name, so many feelings washing over her. She had hoped.... she has been foolish to hope, she realises. But still.. She sighs, and moves back to the group, towards Cronk, just in time to hear Arthur's exclamation. "I see Arthur's gone odd again. I hope he doesn't pee on my bedroll. Cronk... I don't know how much you know, but part of me is drawn to seeing XX. I.. find it difficult to say more. I fear, though, that I would engage in a similar mission to Atramor's. I understand if you have more vital tasks for me, but.. if you send me, I would need a Smoke Bomb, and.. I should like my Explosive Staff back. Wherever you feel I would help our efforts best, I will go." She looks at Atramor as she speaks of the Staff. She knows it's a big request, and that he can wield it well with his poison, but.. the connection.

This is really beautiful and intricate work. There are so many fun features outside the building as well as inside; I like the shoeshine and the tram stop. The curve of the building looks great, and the tiled floor inside is lovely. The interiors are well divided and packed full of interesting (and recognisable) builds, without being too fussy or full. I even spotted the nice detail of the curtains in the examination room. The fun feature of "uncle Frank" under the dome at the top made me smile! A great build, with more to spot each time you look!

def, thank you so much for letting me play, I really enjoyed playing this game a lot and it was lots of fun. I liked the fact that the focus was much more on the game itself, and less so on roleplaying (apart from those who were cursed, of course). You've heard some of my opinion on having a miller, a godfather and a role which both tailors and frames in a game where the cop gets returned the result of "scum" or "not scum" and there are multiple conversions, all of which severely weakens the investigative role. I know that you said this was strengthened by having a watcher and a tracker, but I disagree, I don't think those roles did balance the many things the cop was up against. I suspect you will disagree with this, so I hope we will amicably disagree. As I said, I had a lot of fun playing, and I enjoyed it while it lasted. There were so many twists and turns in this game, with unexpected consequences, and there really was a town-plosion with a catalogue of calamities. Thank you for hosting a fun game, and for keeping such a great pace.

Nyx watches as Atramor walks in, and he's clearly not his normal self. She hears what he says in the gaps between his words, and says nothing in reply. She can feel his regret, though. More regret... She sighs. Triad was a brave fighter, and Nyx would have liked to find out more about her, but this was her time, and she died bravely. Nothing to regret there. She looks around some more, glad to have brought Felton and Mallelio back in one piece. Mostly. It sounded as though there were yet more of these damn spires; splitting up the team was dangerous, and even last time, as two teams, it had clearly still been hard work. The others looked exhausted, and her own team were fortunate to have been healed by Mallelio. They needed time to regroup. She steps forward. "Glad to see you back safely Cronk" she nods to the other members of his team. "We should prepare ourselves, these fights are getting tougher. Save your Ether and Grand Tonic" Nyx gently moves Arthur onto one of her bedrolls; he could clearly do no more than rest right now. "I have another bedroll for anyone who needs it. I'm fortunate to not need to rest at the moment, so I would strongly suggest that those of you who need to, rest right now while we discuss our next move and the information we have. Skrall, these murmurings from Arthur, are they from his imagination do you think, or should we pay them more heed?"

Nyx shall just wait for a victor to emerge.. ..and then punch them into a week next Tuesday. It's time for a Queen!

OoC Did Mallelio heal Thothwick back to full health with his Shield too? Nyx grins widely as she definitively ends the Chaos Beast. She adds in a little dance as Mallelio conjures an electrical storm at the remaining enemies and they crackle and fizzle lifelessly. "Well, you two both do look a little rough around the edges. Mallelio, I'm not counting how many times this has been, I'm just really glad you're still alive; you couldn't patch up Felton a bit could you? I know you can't fight, but can you still heal? Oh, and if Thothy needs it, could you tend to him too, please? Thanks. Right, onto loot: Everyone gets 30 gold; Hoke and I get a Fire Bomb each, and Alexis and Thothy get a Venom each. Any questions? If not, we should poke around here a bit in case there's anything to find, otherwise we should head back to the others. I really could do with a bit of a rest to recharge my Ether."

With the promise of wine, hitting people, and a vague hint of power? Uh huh, I certainly think so. That too!

Zeph, my counter should have been a magic counter and I'm also Encouraged, so I believe my damage dealt should have been [(36x2x2)-5] = 139 (minus 1 Ether). Reference here. Things are moving along well, and Nyx feels herself begin to relax more and find the flow of the battle. Just a few stragglers to mop up. She moves close to the Dragon, and nods respectfully. "Vipera, once more I would like you to attempt to raise Felton please. He is a brave fighter, he deserves to live. Please focus on whatever it is you need to to bring him back to us." She sighs, hoping Felton isn't lost forever. She looks at the remaining few enemies and grips her book tightly with a glint in her eye. "Mallelio, I think you would gain some satisfaction from attacking Advanced Chimera Guard F. Gray Wizard, thank you for healing us all, could I impose on you to try to heal me once more? I myself will keep at the Chaos Beast, as before. As Hoke has suggested, we should leave Advanced Chimera Guard B untargeted so he can counterstrike it to the scrapyard." Nyx feels the surge of emotions through her body as she projects a powerful, pure, bright light at the Chaos Beast. She pants a little, having never felt the Diamond's power so strong before. A new element to get used to.. with it's own... flavour, for want of a better word. Half-blinded she looks around at her brave and fearless team, seeing very little damage taken. They're getting somewhere. The numbers are more favourable. It's going to be ok. Probably. "Gentleman Hoke! Haha, good to see you put that weapon of yours to better use! If you would be so kind, though, I should like to take on the Chaos Beast myself. Potentially, I could even take him out in one go. Do you think you could take on one of the Advanced Chimera Guards instead? Alexis, I really think you've got this assassiny thing sorted, so please feel free to do it as many times as you like. Vipera, we must have Felton back, he's fought so hard for so many things, please see if you can revive him once more. Mallelio, please attack Advanced Chimera Guard I from the back row with your Topaz, and Gray Wizard, I should be most grateful if you could heal me a bit, in case I should be horribly unlucky. Aside from that, we need to focus on these silly mechanicals, so if you can withstand a blow from the front row, then feel free to move forward. If everyone attacks a different target then there will be just one free hit, that Hoke can shield without pain." Nyx still grips her Diamond, and prepares to cast at the Chaos Beast B from the back row. I also agree with option 3 for the Witch buff. It would be useful to know if Lucky does affect other actions - all the things determined by further die rolls, not just scrolls. A clarification one way or another would be handy, as there's clearly disagreement and confusion.
