  1. I wonder who this guy really was. Clearly he doesn't have the kinds of answers you'd get from someone in charge, but he's at least somewhat involved in the process. Well, whatever the case, it's just one of those things, I guess. None of us is an expert in the field, so we can't really say whether or not the reason given is true, we pretty much just have to accept the reality that purple may be gone. Somehow, I doubt that trans purple will count, but who knows. At least I finally understand why I had an urge to buy up purple parts about a year ago. Might have to stock up a bit more before they're completely gone, though I never have figured out what I'd use them for.
  2. Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1399.
  3. It's amazing! It's stupendous! It's almost like WhiteFang is a reviewer with previous experience! It's almost like I wrote all of Shadow's lines! It's almost like Staudie is being as annoying as ever. Oh wait, that's all true! Great review of a neat little set. I used mine as the air conditioning unit on the roof of my Chinese restaurant. Then some dork told me it didn't look believable or something. I liked it. Um... so. Great review! Thanks for presenting it! I give you a And, let's just take a moment to get sentimental. A year ago, today, Staudie had a lame idea: Interview the members of EB. He flailed around with it for a few interviews, including the infamous one where Hinck attention whored Sinner into a corner and Sinner were featured, reprising their roles from the Whacker and the Walrus. It was quite memorable, but then, a short time later, someone new joined the team, bringing it to a new level of polish and bad jokes. Still, this tribute isn't dedicated to that genius of the written word, nay, it's dedicated to the whole staff, including the new guy who is still a secret so don't bother asking, I'm not telling! Ha! I salute you, EB News, it's been a damn fine year! I hope I can survive another.
  4. Have a mature and pleasant day, old-timer. Oh, and then go party until you puke, as all good partying should be followed by.
  5. You want me to ask the questions one week?
  6. I brought down Lord Ash on my own and voted for every traitor that this pathetic bunch managed to catch. The only person that always resisted voting for traitors is someone you don't even suspect because of the double-dealing of a certain party who has declared them innocent. And stop looking at my megablocks.
  7. Blah blah blah, if you kill me, it will only make me stronger, blah blah. Seriously, I'm shocked that with as poorly as some of this has been done, you didn't get the blatantly obvious clues earlier. For one of these to work, it needs to be more based on our own efforts and less on outside influences. Enough said there. I am disappointed to be double-crossed by one of my own. Vote: Lord Savril / Hinckley Oh, and my ghost will haunt you all. :skull:
  8. Was his interview in last month's newsletter? I didn't think he was interviewed in time, so I put it in this newsletter, but didn't know about ... are you sure about this? Well, whatever. Either way. Oh, and you still can't spell Bonaparte.
  9. I can't even begin to tell you ...
  10. People can be banned for a lot of reasons which are between them and the staff. Anyone who is banned is given an opportunity to present their side of the situation and discuss it in full, then a decision is made and fully explained to them. That said, I wouldn't suggest making posts asking banned people why they're banned. 1. They won't reply because they can't. 2. We aren't going to discuss it with you. 3. It's kind of spammy, and we frown on that. Thanks! I'll just go ahead and lock this now, to prevent any future unnecessary discussion.
  11. Why would a system pony come in a Belville set? That's a Paradisa set. Sorry to make fun of you, I'm just having fun at your expense, since you had fun at his expense. I must admit, it's a great little set, and the same one from whence my pony came.
  12. They are, sort of. As long as you know the 7 digit LEGO code #, you can always try ... http://assets.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/0000000.pdf ... replacing the 0000000 with the code #. In this case, it's easy since we have scans of the covers. 4529557 4529558 4529559 I think it's fairly brilliant of TLG to offer them this way, knowing that people will download them, then realise it's easier to buy the set than put it together on their own (when it's even possible).
  13. Hello ladies! Good job, kid. You scored on this one.
  14. I can live with this. I actually bought a lot of Rock Raiders at the very end of their existence while being clearanced out. I intended to use them as some kind of rebel workers or misc slightly space styled SW characters, but ended up liking the official line enough to leave them be. I will say this, though, unless they're amazing on their own, they'll end up a lot like Exo-Force / Agents to me, sets to buy at a bargain for parts salvaging. Shame they didn't officially release any pics before someone finds them on their own. Would save all that nasty leakage mess.
  15. Cobblestone paths, red and white colour schemes, small vehicles, convenient mail service, things to do inside and out, plenty of open airly lighting from the windows. Both are clearly winners, but in the contest of which is the best place to holiday, I have to say... Holiday Home, without a doubt. Since we're looking at what is intended to be a vacation spot, a summer place or something, I went with the one that looks more fun and less like a normal house. To me, both are incredible, but Holiday Home looks like a little Alpine Villa, while Holiday Villa looks like a more traditional style house. I feel like they named them backwards in that regard. To further the case for Holiday Home, it includes the ever popular and hard to get Cypress Yes, I'd gladly stay at either, but I'm making my reservation right now for a few weeks in Holiday Home. How about you? Edited to add: Am I the only one that thinks that the shovel in Hinck's review looks like a shotgun? Clem, the friendly but slow gardener steps out of the shed with old Bessie, intent on finally being united with his beloved Mildred once and for all. "Why couldn't she have ever noticed me? Well, no matter now, we have all of eternity." Someone call LEGOLAND CSI! Fabuland isn't the only edgy theme in my world.
  16. A fascinating thread, and one that strikes close to my heart as I love this particular style, 30's/40's in general, film noir, etc. I can't help but imagine a LEGO representation of Metropolis. To coincide with some of what has already been said, the wiki Metropolis article states: "Rotwang's Art Deco laboratory with its lights and industrial machinery is considered by some to be a forerunner of the Streamline Moderne style, highly influential on the look of Frankenstein-style laboratories of "mad scientists" in pop culture. When applied to science fiction, this style is sometimes called Raygun Gothic." Sleek, retro-futuristic, bordering on dark and potentially ominous. Good stuff, and a damn fine idea for a LEGO theme. I hope it reaches some level of popularity, and I'm entrusting all of you to make it happen! So, get building!
  17. You never know, though I think the current Agents map would make a better hint in some ways. I actually thought of Pirates the first time I saw it, did a quick decal based on a pic (which turned out to be pretty accurate) and then made variations of it, in a more Pirate style, as seen here: Original, then variations ranging from colourful to more parchment historical looking, all done at 600dpi. (Click thumbnail for full size image) It's either that or a small stone window, like a ruined fortification, it's very hard to tell. As for making them better, I was in my dark ages for the first Islanders, so if there is another run, I'll just be happy to get them.
  18. Currently, Classic-Pirates.com is undergoing site maintenance, so certain images and features may appear and disappear at random. That doesn't sound right. Let me try again. Har! There be rough seas ahead! You might want to be holdin' on tight to avoid goin' overboard! There be a flag on the horizon! Prepare the guns, ya scurvy dogs! That doesn't sound right either, but it was fun. Everyone should remember that September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day. What did that have to do with this post? Nothing. But thanks for noticing and reporting the temporary image disappearance and rest assured that it will reappear soon.
  19. Never tried a vectorization. I do them at 600dpi with no antialiasing, so they could be an easy conversion, I've just never done it... Maybe you could explain the process?
  20. Excellent job, and one of the best sets in history, if you ask me! 5/5 all the way. This is what we need more of. Hmmm... He does look a little familiar, and I definitely recognise the lovely Alice. Now stop staring at her. Actually, Salvatore, as I like to call the chef, was in the navy where he reached the rank of chief, a nickname he holds to this day. So both work in this case. Surprise? Free? I'm not even close to free, I'm rather expensive, but I do have a surprise for everyone! I think you'll be interested in the companion article to this fine review, my first set restoration project. Again, great job WhiteFang, excellent review, and TLG, this is a star amongst your sets. Think about that when you're designing new ones. Seriously.
  21. In his entertaining and informative review, WhiteFang was gracious enough to show us a classic set in all of it's glory, the legendary Pizza to Go. It's a beauty, a set that I suspect many of you would love to own. Of course, it's no longer easily available, but why should that stop the devoted fan? It shouldn't, assuming you own an assortment of basic bricks (or are willing to purchase them) and have access to a colour printer capable of making decals. The first step to set restoration is to find out what pieces you will need. Securing an inventory and instructions is easy, just take a trip over to Peeron and look up the set. The inventories aren't always perfectly accurate, but they're usually very close. Next, dig through your collection and find what you'll need. Of course, you won't have the decal sheet, but that's ok, we have another plan for that. If you have everything you need, great! If not, a quick trip to Bricklink should fill in most of the gaps. Just remember, if you can get the official printed pieces, do, if you can't, substitute plain pieces of the same type and colour. I don't provide decals for those, since they were never meant to be made as stickers, but in this set, it's basically just the umbrella and small sign on the top of the van. Those can be replaced with plain pieces without major loss, until you find the real ones. Now that you have the set, minus the decals, all you need to do is print out these custom decals that I have made for you. Included are the main sign, the van panels, the torsos for the chef and delivery boy, a custom pizza based on the sign design (for variation) and a new pizza box which would go nicely on a 2x2 white tile. If you didn't buy any official pizzas, the substitute will work in it's place, but the pizza is a cheap part, and having multiples makes for a nice look, so try to pick some up. I also prefer the real, printed minifigs, but I'm giving you the option of making a couple of your own here, in case they aren't readily available. Optimized for printing at 600dpi (various sizes). (thumbnails link to full size decals) Set 6350/10036: Pizza-to-Go (1994/2002) Torso 3: Coming Soon! Pizza-to-Go Bonuses (New Pizza and Pizza Box) Once you're printed and applied your decals, you can finish up the set. Now, you own a modern restoration of a Classic Town set, soon to be the pride of your display! If you actually try this, please, take some pics and post them here, we'd love to see your efforts!
  22. She'd rather die than spend the night with you! HAHA! Vote: Staudie, and his little dog too.
  23. WHAT IN THE NAME OF HELLO KITTY ARE YOU DOING? I hereby disavow all knowledge of Stauder, EB News, and pretty much anything else contained herein. Geez, what happened to the live format? And my cape. And my sigfig. Oh, and the cats. Well... Whatever. And geez. Geez. Did I say geez yet?
  24. You know... I can buy that, but ... So you're suggesting Lord Savril? If you swear that Michael is a loyalist, and Savril keeps blocking his night actions, they must be on opposite sides, making Savvy a traitor. Is this what you're telling us?
  25. I wish I knew what kind of night action can't be blocked, yet still gets you whacked in the head... Now what? I know! Everyone pick a number. If your number is divisible by 1, we kill Draggy!
