  1. This looks like a lot of fun. I actually confirmed in the other thread, since it indicated that it was for introductions and confirmation, but the pm linked here, so I'll say something here as well. I like the characters. They're very Classic-Town, brought into the present day but still showing all of their smiley goodness. You can expect this to be blogged at Classic-Town.net as soon as I finish a few things, so head on over, folks, it's a nice place to visit.
  2. Ivan... to get this started! Jes, I will be speakings like dis threwout de whole game, so please try to make the understandings. I dun tink I even have an accent, it's all of you. Oh look, my wifes! I must make rememberance not to call her Mary, whoever dat is. Now, let us get the party starting, and dun forget, come to Ivan and Florence's for the lunch, I give you 10% off! (OOC: Man, this is going to be fun! )
  3. Sonofa... Hey, what do you mean again? I should have brought Mary. That guy smells funny. Like a clown or something.
  4. Happy Birthday, oh blue Admiral who I don't think I've ever talked to here.
  5. Absolutely great! I've actually been slowly working on a similar project, it's nice to see how wonderful it could turn out. Did you have to remove print for any of those torsos? I keep thinking there should be one more possible colour if you do, but I can't figure out what it is. I know we'll never end up with an all-fleshie, since they'd never have a reason to issue flesh coloured hips. So close... If your far left one is medium blue, the head and a nice helmet are available, but no hands thus far. That's where I'm stuck at.
  6. Did someone say Blacktron AND Fabuland?
  7. Happy Birthday, oh diminutive Emperor! Boner Party On!
  8. I like it a lot as well, it's much more natural than the screaming regular yellow we always get. I chose it as an example because it's on my "add to order" list, the things I'll buy up in any store I happen to already be dealing with on Bricklink. All the shades of purple were already on that list, as well as a number of other uncommon colours. I still don't have a plan for any of it, but if it's going to be difficult to get, I want more while I can find it.
  9. You know, I really don't understand why this was even mentioned. Colours come and go all the time. No one warned up when dark red was added, no one makes a big production about the lack of light-bright yellow or whatever that buttery colour is called, but they just had to announce the death of purple? I don't really have a point here, just wanted to share that bit of head-scratching thought. I'll add this... if they hadn't mentioned it, could they have simply worked around it without anyone getting particularly bent out of shape? I mean, without an announcement, would anyone have even thought to start a "where has all the purple gone?" thread, and if they did, would it get as serious as this one where we have specific comments to point at? Has there ever been a, "waaaah, my purples don't match!!!" thread? I don't think so. If I was TLG, I'd reconsider the nature of such announcements, official, unofficial, and sort of off-the-cuff as this seems to have been.
  10. I also know this one, but I had to comment ... Living up to your title, I see...
  11. There are no less than 182 unofficial theme discussions in Other Themes. Someone should rename that "All Other Official and Unofficial Themes", but dammit, no one has thought of it yet.
  12. Welcome to another exciting episode of EB News Recaps! I'm your host, Imperial Shadows and my special guest is the spirit of Rotrigous, misunderstood hero of the castle and all-around nice guy, mostly. Well, Mary liked him. A lot. So, tell me, Rotty, if I may call you Rotty, and I plan to call you Rotty, so you better get used to it.... Rotty. Tell me what you think about all of this. Well, first, thanks for having me on the show. You know, this whole experience was new to me. I've never been a traitor on a show like this before, and I really had no idea what I was doing. It didn't show, you almost had them, didn't you? Honestly, I think we were 1 vote from winning on 2 different days. If anyone, ANYONE would have just listened to me and voted for Kyle, I could have wrapped the rest of it up in no time, but once I realised it wasn't going to happen, I knew it was all over but the waiting. I just didn't discover him in time. That was a bad break, but what about Calvin? How did you manage to turn that one around? He should have had you on day one. Hell if I know. I hope he comes in and explains it himself. Tell me, do you find Staudie annoying? Actually, our initial plot was to kill him, but the King got hungry and went down for a snack. He ended up with Staudie's sandwich, and the rest, as they say, is history. I hope you can understand our feelings on this. Oh, I understand all too well. That kid... You know, if you aren't doing anything after the show, we could go steal his tank and drive it in the harbour. Ah. Well, I have a date, actually, so I should wrap this up by saying that it's been fun and I hope we do it again, soon! A date? You're dead. You can't have a date. Undead, actually. Draggy keeps a weird castle. When they buried me, Majiko was supposed to cast some spell to seal me in my coffin for all eternity, and instead... here I am. Another thing we have in common. You're ... Yeah. So then you'll understand that I need to run while Mary is still fresh. Ew... You wouldn't... No no, I'm going to bring her back from the dead. Sicko. :skull: Oh, that's ok then. Have fun, kids! And with that, we bring our first and hopefully last episode of EB News Recaps to a close. Thanks for watching and be sure to keep an eye open for Mystery Castle II, whenever that might be. *camera fades*
  13. First the Good Wizard impulse and now this? Stupid, TLG. Just stupid. As for the legal explanation, I doubt it. It would take a single sticker to fix that, they've used stickers before for choking hazard warnings.
  14. Happy Birthday, guys! Cake. LEGO. Cake. LEGO. LEGO Cake. Mmmm, crunchy.
  15. Welcome to EB News. I'm Staudie, and this is ... well ... I don't know where the hell everyone else is. I'm pretty sure I'm not early. I'm never early. Well, my mom says I was early, but that was a long time ago and I don't remember it very well. Actually, she says they weren't really ready for me, but I don't know what that means. Wait. I think I hear something, it must be Shadows arriving in his little space scooter. I've never actually seen it, but he was trying to act like it was some big thing and I'd be all impressed, but I doubt it. Oh my... Look at that thing! I... AAaaahhhh! Impressed? Yeah. B-b-b-but isn't that ... I borrow it when he isn't using it. He throws in the guards to carry my luggage. Y-y-y-you kn-nuh-nuh-nuh-ow him? Of course. Wait a minute! What? Why don't you need a helmet? Huh? Oh... that's hard to explain. I don't want to know. Good call. Excellent! Our guest is arriving now! Aw, it's a cute scooter thingy. Welcome KDog! Thanks, Shadows! Good to see you again! You too, Stutter. Stauder. Close enough. Why is that Blacktron guy stealing my ship? Oh, he isn't stealing it. He's, uh, parking it. We're a top notch show here, we have valet parking. We do? Shut up. Right, we do! Isn't that Hin... *smacks Staudie* So, let's get started! Well, KDog, mind explaining your name? It's really a crap name, isn't it? I've never use it anywhere else, just on Lego forums. What happened is that when I started the Lego: Space comic, I hoped my friend Dan would help me with it, as we both like Legos and moronic humor; I thought this project would be a perfect outlet for that. And I thought we'd publish the comics under two names that sounded like they belonged to club DJs. KDog (with the K for my first name, Kevin) and DHub (D for Dan and then the first three letters of his last name). I went ahead and posted the first couple of comics I did on my own, but Dan didn't seem very interested unless it was Star Wars. And I had my own ideas about telling a backstory for Lego's Space theme. So, Dan just reads the comics on occasion, now. But he had a great idea for a Star Wars comic that I might work in somewhere. It's better than Staudie, which means "annoying" in 13 languages. Really. I have a list somewhere. What is your sig fig? I change it now and then, but it's currently Commander Schwartz, the slacker main character of my comic, dressed up as Indiana JoneIndiana Schwartz! Yeah, well we appreciate you appearing in space form today, it made it a lot easier since I didn't actually look up your sigfig. What is your favourite theme? My personal guess is Classic Space... But of course. It's the theme that always most captured my imagination. The Lego designers really got to let loose with Space as compared to something more realistic and terrestrial like Town. But I would say I love Space as a whole, not just Classic (although it was my first love). For some strange reason, I go rabid over UFO sets and have almost the whole collection. I do have other themes that I love almost as much as Space, although I don't have that many sets from any of them. Castle would be second (I want Black Falcon's Fortress soooo bad...), followed by Indiana Jones and Classic Town. Classic Town? Well, have I got the place for you! Classic-Town.net! Proud sponsor of EB News, more or less, and personally run by that guy who keeps interrupting the show, what's-his-name. Hin... *smacks Staudie* He-who-shall-not-be-named. Right! And your 3 favourite sets would be? I think that changes on a daily basis. But I can tell you what my current three favorites are. The FX-Star Patroller (6931) might be my favorite Classic Space ship. It's both elegant and badass, and is hella fun with its detachable, smaller ship at the front and its lab, which includes a robot on a moon buggy. It's also the soul sister of the Gamma-V Laser Craft (6891), known in my comic as Commander Schwartz's ship. Another current favorite is King's Castle Siege (7094), which I recently broke down and bought. I never had a Lego castle and always wanted one, and this set comes darn close to the aesthetic of the classic sets. And it's honkin' huge and is immensely fun. I think the current Castle series is the best since the original years. Love the skeletons! Finally, Indiana Jones and the Lost Tomb (7621) is one of my all-time favorites. It's the perfect Lego playset and captures the feel of the Indiana Jones movies. Lego packed a ton of great things into what is only a medium-sized set; the dropping snakes, the falling Anubis statues, the skeleton bursting through the wall, the Ark of the Covenant, great Indy and Marion minifigs, the Droids hieroglyphics - this is just a fantastic set. The greatest Lego related moment for you would be? It's more a period of time, which would be the mid-1980s when I would visit my friend Scott's farmhouse and we would play with his Space Lego. I didn't have a lot of Lego of my own, as I was more focused on Transformers, but I would be in awe when I saw the great Space stuff he had. I don't think I even knew they existed until going to his house. He had so many of the awesome sets from the early to mid-80s. It was a magical time, not just because of Legos, but because of childhood and those feelings are part of the reason I haven't let Legos go. And the equivalent of that moment here at EB would be? It would be all the positive response and interest the comic generates. I didn't know what people would think when I first posted a link to it. Would they hate it, think it stupid? I used to draw webcomics and not only was I not that great at writing humor (since my own is pretty offbeat), but I would be lucky if the comics got 10 views a day. But people have been really supportive of the Lego comic. It's something that interests all of us here and it fits my storytelling style and humor, I suppose. At this point, I think I have between 700 and 1,000 regular readers. And being interviewed, of course! Oh, of course. What figure are my SF's torso and legs from? Mike the Fabuland Monkey? Be nice to Fabuland, it never did anything to you. How is the SPACE Comic coming along? I'm just shocked that I've kept up with doing three comics a week since early February. The process is becoming somewhat more streamlined, thankfully. Perhaps the EB News crew could show up in one of my storylines involving the DACTA news agency. That would be a perfect fit! Perhaps so. We're always available, though I don't really have a space sigfig. Well, let us know and we'll come up with something. I was wondering if we can see your whole Space Collection (Gotta love teasing the people who missed out xP ) ? A photograph of a nondescript cabinet of Tupperware shelves isn't very interesting. However, I can snap some photos of my "Cabinet of Wonders," which is where I (messily) store most of the Space sets I use frequently and don't feel like rebuilding each time I shoot pictures for the comic. It's reminiscent of the cabinet in which Mr. Rogers kept his "Land of Make Believe" toys. Am I annoying? I don't think so. But you're talking to the king. Did you ever see the Dragonator interview? Staudie is the queen... That makes you two a couple! Couple of what, I don't know! Hahahaha... Er. Sorry. What is your opinion on the re-release of a Classic Space fig in the Vintage Figures set, and the New Space Skulls/Police theme? I like that Lego is honoring Classic Space and putting some red torsos with crisp, gold logos out there. I think it's lame that they're not bothering to use the original helmet. Space Skulls and Star Justice are wonderful, imaginative sets that implement building techniques that are incredibly fun and that I hadn't really encountered before in Lego setAnd those sets were designed by our own, which is awesome. I'd like to see sets like these on retail shelves outside of the Lego Store. How do you this TLC is fairing this season? Lego is at a high point, I think, putting out really strong sets both in its original themes and licensed themes. I'll always love 1980s Lego out of nostalgia, but man, these are some good times. And your thoughts on Mars Mission? It's had some great sets with highly imaginative designs, especially in the 2008 line-up. I don't find a bunch of miners fighting somewhat bland aliens all that exciting, though. I hope the rumors of Space Police (and hopefully Blacktron) coming back are true. Who should we put in the hot seat next time? I would say one of my readers, since they're pretty insightful people. Did you interview Inertia yet? Yes, we have. Doesn't anybody read these? I know I don't, but still... And that's our cue to wrap things up! Is it? I don't know. You said he was supposed to have a cameo appearance, then didn't explain why. Oh, right. He's blurry too. That's to simulate movement. He's running through quickly. Sure. Just shut up. Well, special thanks to KDog for joining us and for all of you who managed to sit through this much Staudie. You know, this is the first interview of our second year of EB News, and I feel that warrants my taking a moment to tell you all just how much I appreciate your continued support. I realise that coming in and telling us it was a great show over and over could get a little repetitive eventually, but just knowing that you read them makes it all worth while. Thank you! *camera fades*
  16. You think? Oh yeah, you'll regret that one.
  17. It's certainly possible. It always seemed odd to me that they switched back and forth between Shell and Exxon over those years. This first appeared in set 554: Fuel Pumper, which TheBrickster has been kind enough to review here and then in set 6675: Exxon Gas Station that he reviewed here. Some sources indicate the station came out in 1979, some say 1980. Looking on Bricklink, it seems to have been a torso that faded like a lot of the late 70's / early 80's ones did; their sample pic looks terrible.
  18. 1979 in Minifig History The population of LEGOLAND increased in 1979, bringing a new assortment of both uniforms and civilian clothes. We see our first printed police uniforms (the 1978 offerings were stickers) including a leather zipped jacket and a new ranking officer with badge, as well as a new chef in town. Further, Exxon built a new gas station and along with it came employees wearing their company logo. Workmen and other city folk appeared in buttoned shirts, sweaters and even a leather jacket. Where were the platform shoes and disco clothes? Apparently, LEGOLAND citizens avoided that whole craze, and so should you. Enough introduction, on to the art presentation! Optimized for printing at 600dpi (1.551cm x 1.227cm). (thumbnails link to full size decals) As an additional project, we at the CT MoAH have decided to offer recoloured variations of common torsos, giving them some new life and adding variety to your Classic Town minifig assortment. Of the torsos available in 1979, these are the three most suitable for recolouring, in our opinion. We would consider variations on the others, if you have specific requests, just ask. Classic Recolours 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. So there you have it, a look back at 1979. Hope you enjoy these offerings, and as always, if you decide to use some, please feel free to post pictures of your efforts in this thread, we'd love to see them!
  19. Funny, I could have sworn there was one left. With that, Rotrigous, noble but misunderstood hero of the castle, locks the door for the last time. From the outside. And runs like hell! LOSERS!
  20. Wait... am I innocent now? Who wants to unvote me, since that traitor Byron has revealed himself? Why is this cat peeing on my foot? <Don LaFontaine>In a world gone mad, the answers to all of these questions and more await you ... tomorrow ... whenever the hell that is...</Don> I thought he needed a tribute. Oh, and I will haunt you people in a way so horrible you can't even begin to expect it.
  21. Oddly, he has a whole team that does that, but honestly, they've gone to pot since the prequels destroyed their world. George apparently wanted all of the books prior to that to made at least a fair amount of sense. The flaw in the plan was that he hadn't hired anyone to stop him from destroying that. But, to be fair, he always said that anything he didn't film was to be considered non-canon. Just to share my own views, I never actually planned out the prequels as I thought they simply would never exist. Once the books started, especially the Zahn stuff, I was more than happy with the universe in that form. The books went wrong on their own eventually, but that's another matter. Episode I didn't really shatter the dream though. The jedi were large in number, Palpatine was plotting and gaining power, people were meeting the right people. It was Episode II that killed it by destroying Boba Fett and all the potential there. I actually had mentally connected Clone Wars and Mandalorians to the point that I pictured a huge army of them. That even fit the books, where you are led to believe that he was just a cop who wanted to go bigger and thought that using the visual impact of an army of extinct but powerful warriors would help instill fear. The funny thing is, I only mentally created one movie in my mind. Episode III. Here's how it went, all the way down to time. [00:00-00:20]: Anakin and Obi-Wan on a mission somewhere. They disagree and Obi-Wan finally grows tired of Anakin's insolence. After the mission, which they barely survive, they are called before the Jedi Council and give differing stories about the mishap. The council sides with Obi-Wan and dismissed Anakin from the order. Anakin storms out into the waiting clutches of Palpatine who had been manipulating him privately for a long time, acting as the father he never had. In my version, he might be his real father. [00:20-00:45]: Obi-Wan is sent to deal with another situation. The specifics are unimportant, but he finds out that Palpatine is behind it. He plans to confront him, but Palpatine is aware and sends Anakin to deal with him. After a prolonged space fight, Obi-Wan crashes on a volcano/lava planet and Anakin chases after. [00:45-01:00]: Battle. Anakin 'dies' in the lava. Obi-Wan leaves to report the situation to the Jedi, taking Anakin's ship. [01:00-01:15]: Interchanging scenes of Palpatine travelling, Obi-Wan flying, Padme worrying, Palpatine doing dark deeds, Obi-Wan arriving and approaching the council. Palpatine issues orders. Buildings on Coruscant blow up. Terrorists are blamed and quickly revealed to be the Jedi. Jar Jar falls down a ventilator shaft (it could happen...) [01:15-02:00]: Black leather. Heavy breathing. Massive death. [02:00-02:15]: Wrap up. Birth and placement of the twins. Death of Padme. Palpatine declares himself Emperor to fight the Jedi scourge. Crowds cheer. Roll credits. Honestly, it isn't a well planned plot, but it features what people expected and it gets Vader out there a lot faster and with the right tone. I don't care for the weak, crappy Vader we've been left with. I also don't want to wait until Episode V for him to remember how to fight. It was the weakness of Episode IV... slow pathetic lightsaber fight, horribly weak flying skills. Can I pull a George and redo episode IV next?
  22. Great review of a neat way to bulk up your castle guards and their associated weapons and shields. I hope we continue to see sets like this in the future, they have to be a good money maker for TLG and they always please the fans. ... with that lovely new barding. Nobody would complain about the price then, even if it was $15.
  23. Some things live on forever.
  24. Nice job! It's crazy, yet it all comes together. Despite the SW elements, I think this qualifies as more Castle, so this seems like a good spot for it. Well, until we build the Pretty Pretty Pink Theme subforum, then you're going right in there! Someone has been Mary just a little too long.
  25. Well look at that... you've been blogged.
