Nocturnus Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Abu Dun replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice to see at least two entries being made for our guild. Sadly, I realized that with the parts I have at hand (which, actually, is only a fraction of my actual collection), getting the idea I had for my entry done has proven to be virtually impossible due to lack of bricks @Dr. Rod: That teaser is looking really good and I'll be sure to check it out as soon as possible. @Gilence/Angeli: It's nice to hear something new from you and I'm looking forward to watching at Netheril. From the few pictures you've already uploaded I can already tell that your take on Icewind Dale is gorgeous and probably your most delicate build as of yet -
A lovely build with lots of details to marvel at It's obvious at first glance that this is an elven site and the non-rectangular shpae of the base makes it stand out all the more. The white tower is among the most beautifully designed I've seen around here, its white colour really does make it unique. All in all, a truly great entry and best of luck in the voting

A gorgeous build with lots of interesting details The bell sitting on top of the church, the rebuilding of the tower, the camp with its different sections - nothing looks out of place, on the contrary, everything fits right in to the setting you imagined for this entry Great job and best of luck in the voting

At Ebay, I caught me another 2 Mines of Moria at 22€ each (without the figs, which I don't need multiples from anyway). Considering that this makes 44€ for ~1400 parts that almost all are really useful for MOCing, I think that's a pretty good deal.

A great addition to Scarbourough, indeed. As others have said, the crane and the smoke are excellent, but what I like the most is the slightly run-down appearance it has that goes very well with your story. Also, nice variations on those existing designs, they fit in really well

Just ordered Winter Village Post Office and Mines of Moria at a discount of ~25%.

Many thanks for all the kind comments and yes, I do intend to keep building for Nocturnus To me, a Wyvern simply is a special kind of dragons, kind of like the Lung, the Wyrm or the Amphitere. We don't want to make it overly complicated, do we

In the early days of the relation between Men and Dragons, it often occured that many a nest of the giant creatures got plundered by Drow, wild animals or other pests that inhabit the surrounding mountains. In part, this was due to the parents being away during military campaigns, leaving the nests for themselves, as was the habit of this species since ancient times. To reduce the loss of eggs and infants alike, it has become tradition that a caste of men would take care of them. Over the centuries, these men became known as Dreeders and have since earned a great reputation for raising more dragons to adulthood than ever before. One of the first jobs they have to attain to is keeping the eggs warm and evenly temperatured, which they achieve by placing them in a hollow rock placed atop of an eternal fire and turning them around at well-defined times: Just a quick build thrown together while thinking about the best way to approach the 5th Challenge, this is meant to give an insight in the daily life of the non-military people of the Dragonpeaks. As always, C&C are most welcome More on Flickr.

I wouldn't be in Nocturnus myself if I weren't at least a bit wacky Since I'm all for more life in all its colours to come back to Nocturnus, maybe Evilonia could introduce him/herself a bit.

A nice little vignette, going by the figs and the name I guess this is in fact a colaboration of several prominent members (Taz, Z,...) hiding in the shadows? Maybe a (not so) secret plan of usurping Avalonia is unfolding in front of our eyes?

A truly impressive work that certainly raised the bar for all entries by quite a bit. The detailing of the underground temple is just amazing and the second level feels very much alive. Are those white huts supposed to be built out of snow/ice? If so, how did they get that much if the forest above is so green? The single most unique feature, though, would probably be the working lift that connects the top level with the underground Once again, great job on this and best of luck in the competition

This is so utterly massive and yet detailed beyond comparison that I'm out of words fit to describe just how great this is going to be Watching it grow with every update is like following a great series - you're always eager to see what's coming next and can't await the upcoming episode

It's probably more the enemies that would be screaming Aaaargh, while the dragons would scream something more akin to Roaar But I get what you mean and certainly agree. I wonder if there is even one nocturnian army that doesn't employ different beasts or demi-humans of some kind to boost their strength. Given that humans are the minority in that region, it does make sense though to have much more diversified armies than, say, Mitgardia. Also, a lovely addition to the Phantom Legion, running into these certainly won't end well for oneself -
I really like this idea, I reckon it's supposed to be a part of the Petrea University? The detailing is really good and I like how it feels like an active place with all the different figs going about their different jobs As Niku already pointed out, it seems to somewhat lack flowers and plants, though, so there could be some more added to the scenery.

Thanks Seeing that, aside from Siercon & Coral, not one other member of GoH employs flying beasts at a greater number (I've only seen one Griffin and a Dragon in the service of Avalonia), I figured that Nocturnus should have the supreme rule over the sky - if the troops on the ground can't match the military might of the other guilds. And calling them simply Dragons seemed rather dull Thanks for the compliment

Finally got around to finish editing the photos, so that I could publish the MOCS/Mods I announced earlier: Nocturnian Airforce Drake-Catapult Next I'm going to try to get something built for Challenge V, in the faint hope of being able to meet the deadline -
Thanks for the quick replies The classic dragons actually have the perfect size to have them pull heavy warmachines and I intend to keep this up when I'm going to build more of those. Since I think it's already done faily well, I didn't change the main body of the catapult all that much when comparing it to the official version, so it's not really my design. I mostly added the two drakes to have someone pull it, altered the shield section to some degree and, where possible, tried to conceal the technic beams to a greater degree and added more details overall

Since centuries ago, the dragons from Historica have had dealings with a number of humans, but never has there been a stronger bond betweenthe two species than the one that can be found among the inhabitants of the secluded Dragonpeaks. In fact, the bonding is so great that the dragons, who live for several centuries, share a fraction of their life force with the rider they choose, thereby allowing those to live far longer than an average Historician. Rhitharg the Young is a red dragon of merely 109 years who hasn't yet fully grown horns to indicate his adulthood. As his potential riders tend to die before the rite can be completed, he hasn't found a rider accustomated to him: Sirdthig, the current rider, seems to be quite affected towards him, though. Maybe because they both share a fairly violent nature even when compared to other pairs. His squire definitely thinks so and, since the rite includes the decapitation of the squire if the bonding between dragon and rider fails, would highly appreciate it if the soon to be held rite would this time be successful. Note: This is a slight modification of the dragon that appeared in set 7017. Unlike most other dragon riders, though, Thoragvil Son of Thror isn't fond of flying, at all. Perhaps that's the reason why he got chosen by Urhark the Fierce, one of the largest two-legged dragons to be known in the annals of Câr Thrakartis. His inability to fly doesn't reduce his might one bit and his surname is not without foundation, either. In fact, enemies reportedly flee the moment they notice that particular pair approaching them. Not that it helps, since despite his bulky appearance, no horse has ever managed to out-run Urhark. And once he engages in melee, nothing can stop him until the last foe is slain: Note: Obviously, this one is a modicifation of 2509 Finally, the Lord of the Dragonpeaks doesn't settle below accompanying the Lord of the Dragons themselves. Therefore, Thror III. has bonded with Thrak the Tall decades ago. Even among his kin, Thrak is unusually large and recently manifested his nickname by towering even above some of the elementals summoned by Victor Revolword. Some of which he fought personally while defending several cities. Unlike most other dragons that rely on their claws, tails and breath as weapons, he additionally uses a giant mace and a shield to increase his arsenal: Note: A modification of Ofnir from 7021 As always, C&C are most welcome and more can be found at Flickr

Even though the inhabitants of the Dragonpeaks had not much business with the dealings of Historica before, the troops of Victor Revolword march by their fiefdom without ravaging several cities. To meet the increasing threat, Thror III. ordered his best engineers to design a variety of warmachines that are to provide supportive artillery for the foot soldiers - and to rain rocks and missiles down on the enemies that dare to besiege their wealthy cities. One of the mightiest machines built is a twin-armed catapult that requires the strength of two green drakes to be pulled: While the drakes are just as sentient as all dragons, Argavius, leader of the palace guard, was bestowed with the command of the artillery unit that is to increase the military might of the Dragon peaks. Able to launch massive rocks as far as 300 meters, enemy troops will forthwith be hard pressed to get near the walls. More pictures can be found at Flickr. C&C are most welcome. Note: This is a modified version of the official catapult, which was part of the set 7021.

Thanks to you two for hosting the contest, it was quite fun and full of unexpected turns of events. That neither Maya nor U'klogi could advance any further is sad but both can live with it since their opponent was one they deemed worthy of the victory As is Fthagnella who earned that victory by being beautiful for some and terrifying for most

Great build, I guess that wolf head is from Hero factory? It definitely fits in perfectly into the whole theme of the build. If it's called werewolf regiment, I guess the flagbearer and his colleague currently are in their human form and will shift as soon as the gate is breached?

It's quite apparent that Angeli was the most active nocturnian, but there should be more around that can fill the gap. Once I'm done with editing the photos, I also can finally present my dragons (which, for several reasons, are more or less heavy modifications of already existing ones released by TLG). If nothing happens to delay it any further, I hope to get it done by tomorrow or Sunday. -

I can't say for sure if I'll be able to enter the 5th challenge (due to alarming lack of parts and a clustered schedule), but in the next few days I should be able to get some small free builds done. -
Those are some nice pairings, with upcoming battles that are bound to make their lords proud But, instead of Lady Maya, U'klogi was supposed to enter as representative of the Dragonpeaks, but I reckon I should have placed her first, then. Oh well, as experienced adventuress and master of the secret art of fan and goblet, I figure Maya will hold her own just as well. Altough I'm certain U'klogi will take her fury for being denied the participation out on some unsuspecting bystanders
