  1. As LEGO , I think they are iconic to certain factions, just like black trees are Forestmen's thing (and a thing of the times with less brown bricks). Black is still more interesting then yellow. and with the right setting, and use of colour, they work well in fantasy / fiction. One of the best recent black castle builds honestly was 70323 Jestro's Volcano Lair , even if you remove the giant sawblade, flying throne or mouth creatures. If they make completely new / different factions, I think they can change things up, like they did for 7947 Prison Tower Rescue, a faction with yellow/darkgreen, but for Black Knights/Wolfpack, black walls with red roof are just part of that. Contrast of colours is important a small set like 6020 Magic Shop had brown panels but the tree branches were still black, probably to make the orange of the flames stand out more, where the same year dark dragon's den had brown trees, which honestly would've looked weird of those were full black. 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle changes thing up with using a lot more dark azur , just like a potential future serpent castle would likely be black/yellow, both new factions.
  2. I really hope they don't do a "baseplate" remake like Eldorado style. I think a Castle set with black walls + grey accents with red roofs that can split in 2 (1 section around water like Wolfpack Tower was) would be a nicer "icons" set. Also not 1 predominant faction, but more of a split between 2-3 factions , of course Black Knights and Wolfpack being included, optionally some Dragon Master figures. Question is how they can really "remake" those. Dragon plumes are pretty iconic, as are dragon horse helmets (Dragon Masters had no bardings) , but focusing on printed bardings, shields and flags could probably be workable alternative option. Would be nice to see more then 2 horses , another ghost and maybe a grey bird, instead of yet another majisto.
  3. I did not check catalogs, and yes, that definately changes my mind about those factions being able to appear together. Architecture wise , Wolfpack and Black Knights still share a bit more ( but all 3 do use black walls with red roofs), oval dragon shields, even blue ones, can be used by both Dragon Masters and Black Knights, as seen with the 1995 Royal Drawbridge set, there is a blue dragon shield.
  4. True, a 2-faction set with Black Knights, Wolfpack + Ghost could work very well, as they share more similar architecture compared to the more pointy roofs and yellow wall decorations + brown gate/cages of Dragon Masters which clearly were designed with those dragons in mind. What I could imagine would be a gatehouse/bridge section over water like Wolfpack Tower, which could be it's own thing, and then a Drawbridge+Portcullis large gate like Black Monarch's/Black Knight's Castle , with red roof sections and walls/tower. (Royal Knights also had the cheaper Royal Drawbridge set useable like that, to put in front of the main castle) Just not a direct raised-baseplate copy.
  5. Griffin torso would still work, even if the original set had blue or black arms, other Black Knights in set 6059 Knight's Stronghold had the same print and red arms. Scale mail print wasn't exclusive to Black Knights either, as Royal Knights used it later. For a GWP it would be a solution, for a full Icons / remake of Black Knights, of course something more unique and not darkred would be nice. Black Knights , Wolfpack, and Dragon Masters will have / had GWP or a figure, or a hint of sorts (lion knights instructions). Along with more possible Serpent Knights, so chances for some icons black-walled castle seem quite decent in near future. If it's a big enough set, could even have multiple factions included, Lion Knights castle had Falcons + Forestmen too, and Wolfpack could be the bandits. A big icons type of Black Castle set could have Dragon Masters / Black Knights and Wolfpack together, and as those factions used similar black walls and red roofs, they could even have some big set split in sections like Lion Knights Castle could. However, Black Knights and Dragon masters perhaps would be a bit weird to have together as they officially never shared sets, but they have shared helmet plumes, and shields.
  6. I find it funny, with that GWP, being Sea Serpent from the Black Knights, not to be confused with the official descriptions of Serpent Knight (wearing black) and Sea Serpent from the 3-in-1 Horse Castle + Dragon sets. Very good winner.
  7. Agreed , white and grey with some blue also fits with some of their artwork from Total War : Warhammer 3 Of course in-game 3d models, are different colors by faction, Bordeleaux does follow white/gold/blue , the others have red/gold and red/blue. Royal Pegasus and Grail Knight from the game : Grey, Darkred, and Gryphon would fit Warhammer (The Empire) Reikland very well : For Snake Knights, they could be Sartosa , in lore a City-State Pirate City, which even had conflict with the Bretonnian navy. Of course the LEGO version is more a Castle version, without the guns and undead parts, although Haunted Mansion set has a nice vampire figure that could easily be one of their vampire-captains with a change of a hat, and that set even comes with a pirate hat + ship build.
  8. Those scales from the Griffin knights Printed on white could still work for Horse Knights , but still probably look very bad, especially when missing leg print. White arms and legs were used a long time ago for the Royal Knight king, but still, even those legs used 2 colors.
  9. I was just thinking, after Falcons and Lions pretty much seem to retire after 2025, if there will be no new Icons set with those factions, one way for LEGO to keep Lion/Falcon torsos around longer, could be via a LEGO Fortnite set, which could have the Lionbrand character as lion knight, and then some generic falcon knights as in-game enemies, as in-game they populate castle ruins in the snow biome along with wolfpack figures, as a bonus they could feature a glow-in-the-dark skeleton as well.
  10. Horse Knights follow the style of Lion Knights, and have 2 prints as well, 1 different one for the King. But when it comes to generic leather, scales, platemail etc, I don't think every torso needs faction emblems, like I said before, Black Knights never even got any special minifig with emblems printed, instead they got 2 different size shields, 2 flag emblems, sails, special helmets with dragon plumes, and 2 printed horse barding .. Back then, those torsos could easily be armoured versions of Lion Knights , Falcons and the then new Black Knights, and the later "3d" platemail armour piece made it even easier to hide those emblems too. What's interesting is that they turned the "Black Knight" from 1988 supposedly into a ghost, as the 1990 minifigs have a new Black Knight with red beard, 1989 introduced new style of face via Pirates beyond just smileys, so I assume they made a little lore about "Black Monarch's Ghost, and used a similar Black Knight figure from 1990-1993, no real special torso to depict a leader/king etc as the unique face was already unique I suppose.
  11. Could make a lot of sense, since Friends hospital is retiring, 2025 releasing an ambulance that's not 4+, the airplane + the hospital bed soapbox , , and they have had hospital releases alternate between City and Friends years. Will be interesting to see the color scheme of the building, as Police and Fire changed to a darker color scheme with black, and the red/white/azure would not really make sense anymore with the current medical theme, they probably make some building with Turquoise accents and very little neon yellow, only around a helipad or ambulance parking spot or whatever. I have a feeling some Winter ski/snowboard set could also appear again, maybe a ski slope with more of a cave system, instead of a glass building, seeing how they introduced some caves and train tunnels, with the 2025 snow exploration, and they hint at a Yeti and $$$ mining. Could also have some sort of cave crooks hideout, going by the 2025 Police Car garage with a ski-car, and the off-road chase set.
  12. Agreed , I even prefer a Pirate Fort type of 3-in-1 set inspired by a few older sets/build styles, instead of a GWP. (3-in-1 pirate ship is retiring after 5+ years)
  13. So , after reading those Bricklink Designer progam rules, my theory of a mining theme next year seems more unlikely , Technic having Electric/Hybrid loader/excavator also seems to follow those rules regarding prefering Electric vehicles (last year also had that Mack electric garbage truck) Avoid highlighting fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas (e.g. depicting refineries, fuel storage or gas stations). It’s acceptable to showcase historical methods of transportation that rely on fossil fuels (e.g. steam locomotives). When honoring existing real-world vehicles, fossil-fueled ones are acceptable. For generic vehicles, consider making them electric to fit a playable and fantastic universe. Avoid showing any destruction of natural environments for human benefit (e.g., deforestation, logging, mining, land development, monoculture plantations, etc.)
  14. I saw the video, nice explanations, and love how they embrace the modular sections of vehicles and the design behind the newest vehicle chassis piece, along with how they had extra room for sets like Scrapyard or Lifeguard. It's at least nice they moved off their 1 police wave a year thing , even the 2022 Police station is apparently staying until the end of 2026, despite using the older color scheme. On the other hand , a great number of sets, all across LEGO , last 1 year or less these days, and that even includes larger sets. In the long run, it means more sets, more variation, but also a lot more rush to get sets before end of year etc.
  15. I also think it's good to have some un-factioned castle prints , the Snake Knight from 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle has prints on torso and legs that look like a mix of scales and Rivet/Splint type of armour, but can be used for other factions as well if you change the shield and plume. Even Classic Castle factions had a few variants of scale mail (Black Knights/Royal Knights mainly and some Falcons), and Studded/Padded Leather prints with Dark Forest, and some Rivit/Splint type of prints are found in Fright Knights. If you look at a big set like 6086 Black Knight's Castle it has 6 figures with Scale Mail , and 4 figures with a Breastplate print , or 6085 Black Monarch's Castle , which had 8 Scale Mail and 4 Breastplate figures. And the colors of the torsos and arms are generic enough to interchange with Lion , Royal or Falcon Knights or even Dragon Masters / Fright Knights, as they use combinations of black/blue, blue/red , black/red , just red . etc Wolfpack was more unique with it's brown/brown or brown/black torso, but brown also wasn't a very common color yet for regular parts, mainly seen in special parts like weapons, treasure chest, horses, palm tree etc. Horse Knights and Kraken Knights having faction emblems on their torso isn't a bad thing however, both factions follow the modern design that was used for the modern version of Lion and Falcon Knights, giving more a suggestion they wear a cloth piece over their armours, and Horse Knights follow the similar Ringmail neckline down to knees, that Lions and Falcons use. Kraken Knights have a more cloth/leathery look to them, which kind of makes sense if you like use them as a faction that might raid from the water (including hiding inside water), where metal armour would just be heavy.
  16. I think it's a seperate thing entirely, but existing prints/moulds will be handy to use, as they get a parts list to choose from, and there is a 1 sticker per 250 part limit with 25 maximum, and stickers are not allowed to be on minifigs (it's not the 1970s)
  17. True, Pirates won't have anything, as far as regular set wise in 2026 after 3-in-1 Pirate Ship retires. (I don't count Bricklink Designer Program or something like The Black Pearl, just like I don't count Star Trek Enterprise-D as "Space" theme)
  18. With the IDEAS minifigure machine revealed, those orbs could potentially double for pokéballs perhaps, if recolored to red/white ? I only see it viable if they do a very limited run of sorts, like under 10 pokémon that would fit in such ball, with the original 3 starters + Pikachu, and perhaps some classics like Meowth and Jigglypuff. I think just Brick-built with perhaps some unique parts + prints like they did for Mario/Donkey Kong sets is far more likely,. A brick-built pokéball set could somewhat work, especially if it's a 3-in-1 with Voltorb/Electrode options.
  19. I'm looking toward 2026/2027, since big sets of 4 major AFOL Castle (Lion Knight+Town Square)/Viking Village /Space (Blacktron), and 3-in-1 Pirate Ship (Eldorado also left last year) are all retiring at end of this year, there's bound to be something planned ahead. It's probably too early to see Kraken or Gryphon knights in a big 2026 set, but 2027 seems plausible (if made) , and 2026 could have some set with some nostalgia faction (Black Knights and more Wolfpack seems very possible as they just brought back the Ghost featured in both those themes) . and 2026 / early 2027 might still add a Snake Castle set under Creator ( 3-in-1 horse Castle basicly replaces the 3-in-1 Falcon castle , so with Lion Knights and Town Square gone, there's still -2 Castle sets on the market) I don't consider the unicorn castle as part of actual Castle, but more like part of the Unicorns/Pegasus/Purple Fantasy Owl type of sets they have been doing for the past years. Not setting major expectations here, just thinking ahead a bit with some major sets retiring at the same time, especially those 2 Castle Icons sets.
  20. 2025 sets look interesting for sure, as someone who was interested in Nexo Knights, those dragon figures and a set like 71836 Arc Dragon of Focus reminds me of the 2017 Nexo Lighting Jestro colours. Overall direction of the theme is just consistent through the years, and especially recently does still feel varied , with a mix between dragons, mechs and vehicles, there's a lot of choice. especially with added characters like Arin, Sora, Wyldfyre Not everything is super color-coded either, in hindsight, Nexo suffered from a lot of forced "each knight needs to have a vehicle", and thus ended up with very few location sets. Also Ninjago clearly shows it's for all ages, with products ranging from 4+ to 14+ sets. As for Monkie Kid and Dreamzzz, I think there probably will be some Action theme for late 2026 / early 2027 to "replace" something, but Ninjago looks strong and evergreen right now, even if the Dragon Rising might change up for something else (I don't follow the story) Overall, Ninjago has had a lot of dragon heads, wings and figures over the years, I think the real miss will come like 5 years after it's gone, like I remember Elves getting a lot of discussion after it retired as a theme that was overlooked. (Personally I also overlooked it)
  21. Same here, I got like a bunch of figures from sets, since 2016, and the only thing I ordered so far via PAB were some horses, and while those new Kraken and Gryphon figs, and new Classic space colors are nice, I don't just care about it as a set itself. Currently mainly looking at sets, in particular sets that are retiring this year. 2026 might have a lot of potential for at least 1 big new Icons type Castle set as sets like Viking Village, Lion Knight's Castle, Medieval Town Square are all retired by then. If I really want to see 1000s of knights / archers etc, I load up a Total War game, (currently Warhammer 3) to see massive armies of varied infantry ,cavalry, archers, artillery and monsters etc.
  22. I just looked at the 3-in-1 Horse Castle Box art again, and the Dragon from earlier this year has the Horse Castle in the background, and the Castle has the Dragon in the background. But right above the black and yellow Snake knight, in the distance, there's also a Black (or at least dark colored) Castle with a yellow flag, so I think a Snake Knight Castle seems a lot more likely in the near future compared to Kraken or Gryphon. Of course it's just box art, but LEGO has hidden things in plain sight before, with the back to the future like animation that showed part of Lion Knight Castle before that was revealed, and now the red/green dragon had the Horse Castle in the background all along, on both the front and back of box.
  23. Looking at 1988 catalogues on brickset. It was not Blacktron in Belgium catalogue apparently, they were called <<Black Star>> in both Dutch and French. UK however, "Blacktron Star Base" was the set name, along with Blacktron Prowler, Cruiser and Strider released the same year. US catalogue goes even further, with a unique big Blacktron font logo and BLACKTRONtm names , and the other set the names were given more sci-fi names, with Invader, Alienator, Battrax , and the Renegade. Regional differences were quite common at the time, as seen with Forestmen / Robin Rood, and Crusaders / Lion Knights / Lionheart Knights etc.
  24. I hope they actually make some sets for those knights later, even if it takes 1-2 years, and not just BDP stuff, for now they obviously want to sell their big set for those. CMF being one off is one thing, this set is not the same.
