Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion

I like the comment someone made a while back. The venom polybag is taunting us with lots of extra Venom heads, when what we really want is that Spidey head. -

Black costume spidey would be nice too, and that was also a SDCC exclusive. Same torso as Venom, so should be easy to recreate, but that head though ... -

To be fair, Iron Man is Lego's Marvel version of Batman. We have gotten many versions with 2 or more a year. They clearly don't see Spidey that way, and I think Disney's control over Marvel merchandising has something to do with it. Don't forget about another Spidey variant in wide release, Spidey with RED HIPS in the juniors sets! We have had a total of 9 PP Spider-Man variants plus a Duplo Fig. I think the blue printed on red versions look awful. We have (or will have) had 3 additional "Spider-Persons" for a total of 12. How could they actually make a "better" Spider-Man? -

Oh yeah, the art we have gotten is all over the place in terms of which "side" he looks like he's on. Even his motorcycle has the Bat symbol on it, and oddly this picture places him facing off against his own motorcycle!- 8,446 replies

DC Superheroes 2016 - Rumors and Discussion

Since Red Hood has the bat symbol on his chest, I'm guessing he's on the Bat Family side. When he's a straight up antagonist, I think his chest is missing the bat symbol. Neat that there are now minifigures of 4 of the most iconic robin characters!- 8,446 replies

I wouldn't want to abuse the goodwill they showed when they gave me one. They could have given more, but didn't, and I didn't push. Have you tried your local stores? -

Iron Patriot was a Gamestop preorder bonus with the Lego Marvel Super Heroes video game. Not at Walmart as far as I know. http://brickset.com/sets/30168-1/Gun-mounting-system -

I tried my local Gamestop and they had a big stack of Iron Patriots, but no other figures. They kindly gave me one. They still have several of them, so anyone interested PM me for location in NJ. -

Disney/Marvel is trying to limit merchandising for intellectual property it doesn't own the movie rights for, hence no Fantastic Four or X-Men related merchandise. Note that there hasn't been an X-Men cartoon in several years. Marvel Anime was the closest thing, and that aired in 2010. That limits young kids' exposure compared to Spider-Man, Avengers, and GotG-themed TV series. Bummer for us X-Men fans, but sad to say we won't be getting any more Lego sets based on them. SDCC exclusives are possible. On the other hand, it's easy to collect them all? No, wait, I don't have the Phoenix figure. Dangit! -

Nobody claimed there would be any kind of Daredevil set. That would be a terrible idea because of target demographics. A few of us suggested an SDCC exclusive TV show-based figure, which doesn't have to be that kid-friendly, and they only make a small number. We're having fun guessing what the con-exclusive will be. That is all. -

Daredevil at SDCC is a strong possibility that makes me incredibly pissed, because I would want it sooooo baaaadd. -

I would have to say the SDCC Green Arrow also looks TV Show based, but I am guessing that doesn't count either. I think it means if we see anything, it will be a SDCC exclusive. I love me some AoS, but the viewership is small, and mostly isn't kids, the biggest audience for wide release sets. There are a bunch of Ideas projects based on AoS. I have made my own mocs for these characters. -

My previous post points out that the "newness" of both figures actually isn't the printing at all, it's only because of the parts inventories that have changed: New Iron Man loses part 3062b New Loki swaps part 522c for part 522 As many have pointed out, printing variations are common batch-to-batch and year-to-year, and probably don't warrant new figure designations. -

Parts inventories for figures get even funnier for figures like Captain Marvel, whose red masked head piece is not an official part of her minifigure. Just goes to show the parts inventories are not always intuitive. Similarly with Star-Lord who came with a mask head accessory and a spare hair piece, the hair is not part of the figure, but the trans-yellow cylinders are included in the figure. Wolverine's claws are not part of the figure, so accessories on the hands don't count, but those on the feet do (cylinders, flippers, etc). -

You are correct, the Iron Man figure gets a new number (sh231) because it doesn't include the trans-blue cylinders and the old one did (sh036). The parts inventory for the "figure" is different. This is an extreme version of calling Scuba Captain America (sh214) a different figure from Space Captain American (sh228) because their parts inventories are different (flippers vs. jet pack) even though the head, torso, and legs are the same. There seems to be some system by which some parts are labelled accessories (e.g. Spider-Man's different webs don't make them different figures) and other parts are considered part of the figure. To me, the trans-blue cylinders should be considered accessories, and not part of the figure, but I don't make the rules. If the trans-blue cylinders weren't an issue, then the new figure would have the same base number as the old one (sh036a perhaps). Loki has the same base number (sh033) in both figures as the parts inventories are the same. The new figure (sh033a) is considered different somehow. A lot of focus has been placed on the printing and colors, which are subtly different. I think it is the cape material that makes these considered different. Brickset lists the old/new figures as Loki - Traditional Starched Fabric/Loki - Shiny Starched Fabric Cape. Something about the material or dye of the cape is different, so Lego says it is a different part. TL;DR The new figures are different because they have different parts, not because there are subtle differences in printing and color. (My opinion). -

I just built the Avenjet set. I know it's old news to some, but I just got it. I really like the jet, even though it looks terrible on the cartoon. The Lego version is sleeker and looks more airworthy, and looks like it belongs with the quinjets I set it besides (I only wish the fire extinguisher was red, I'll probably switch it). But what has really blown me away is the minifigs. A new Iron Man variant is nice, and Captain Marvel is terrific too (two heads!). I really like the colors and printing on Thanos. Cap is meh. But all this I expected. What I didn't consider before is the Hyperion figure! He's pretty amazing! The gold print on the torso looks great (though it is odd that the torso is gold on red and the legs red on gold, the former looks better), the asymmetric cape is very nicely done, and the arms are two colors (is that dual molding or printing?) I am really bringing this up to point out that this set has an amazing minifigure assortment with lots of great printing and attention to detail on 4 out of 5 figs (cap being the exception, and he's also the only one without printed legs). This same care does not seem to have carried over to the Civil War sets, where many have pointed out missing leg/arm printing in obvious places (Black Panther, Falcon, etc.). To put it in perspective, the Avenjet has the same number of new printed arms and legs as the entire Civil War line! Terrific set that has exceeded my expectations. That being said, I will definitely get the airport (mega Ant-Man is just too wow to pass up) and will probably get the Hazard Heist. The Black Panther set is really iffy for me - if the jet is in the movie it's a no brainer, if not I will probably just Bricklink Black Panther and give him Zod's legs (awesome idea!). -

Even in English rumor and speculation mean very similar things. I think what we are trying to avoid are WISH LISTS and WILD GUESSES. I don't enjoy lists of "we deserve a movie accurate ..." or "I can't wait for my favorite ...". Speculation on the contents of an unrevealed set based on the source material seem legit to me. The way this forum works, we are really only allowed to discuss leaks from those with insider information and then actual facts released by Lego, neither of which are truly rumors. -

You are correct, I shouldn't have said it that way. What I should have said is: There is no evidence that scale mail Captain America appears in the movie. We can hope he does, but there isn't anything concrete that shows us that he does. I am starting to sound really negative, and that wasn't my intention. I'm going to stop now. I am just as eager as anyone to find out what the 4th CW set that the 5xxxxxx polybag will be! -

You have proven my point very nicely. Box art does not mean it is in the movie. Even the Lego toys don't indicate what's in the movie (remembers Mandarin driving a flame thrower car, Hank Pym suiting up in a darker suit for the final battle...) Scale mail Captain America does not appear in the movie. -

My point exactly, that is artwork on a t-shirt. May not even be properly licensed, we don't know anything about it. Definitely not a still from the film trailer or film promotional material. The Iron Man is clearly a drawing for example. -

I am having a really hard time with this. First, I assume you mean scale mail, not chain mail. Second, I haven't seen any movie stills or promotional photos with Cap in his comic book scale mail outfit. For example, in the Airport battle, he is wearing this and even in the battle with Bucky and Iron Man (presumably late in the film) he seems to be in the same outfit. An image search for "captain america civil war XX" where XX= chain mail, scale mail, or scale mail doesn't turn up anything. Why does anyone think that Captain America wears scale armor in the movie at all? I saw the same early concept and promo art that suggested scale mail, but that was artwork on t-shirts. Full disclosure, I don't like the scale mail armor in general because it is silly, but I can understand wanting an old school comic version with the scales on it. If I am wrong, I am sorry and ready to learn. If not, let's stop talking about scale Cap in CW sets. -

I heard 4 minutes of screen time, that's why I said cameo, but you're right, that would be more than a cameo anyways. Definitely won't/can't be confirmed but can be suggested/confirmed without a picture. Even a set title could give that away. That would be a great exclusive for Brickset to get to reveal. I was totally in the "Spidey WON'T be in the 4th set" camp before this announcement, but now I am convinced it will be him. We'll find out if I am right within 30 days. -

Here is a bit of fuel to add to the 4th Civil War set rumor fires: Brickset announced that this month is "Super Heroes Theme Month" thanks to "Support from the LEGO ARP team" From the announcement (emphasis mine)" Given the present abundance of Super Heroes sets and films we have decided that this month will be themed around Super Heroes! These articles will include: Reviews of all the new Super Heroes sets. An interview with a LEGO Super Heroes set designer who worked on the Captain America: Civil War sets. Reviews of some rare and historic Super Heroes sets. An article looking at the history of Spider-Man in LEGO, in honour of his upcoming appearance in Captain America: Civil War. A Super Heroes themed building contest. There will be other surprises along the way so make sure to keep an eye on the homepage. So why would we be celebrating Spidey's brief cameo in the Civil War movie on a Lego website unless the two were somehow connected? And there are other surprises along the way in a very Civil War-oriented article (no mention of BvS for example), so I am guessing the 4th civil war set is among the surprises to be revealed. Correct me if I am wrong, but everything we know about the set so far (very little) comes from it being listed on Brickset in the first place, so what better place to reveal it than there?
