  1. Did my moaning about poor suspension geometry have an effect?!!
  2. Absolutely.. this whole set is making me a car-guy (briefly! ). The general levels of support are higher than normal too, which is good.... but to pick up on a couple of previous topics, it was only recently that someone was doubting the ability of TLG designers and that mocs were 'better'.. (cough) - well, this set is visually stunning. Validation if it was needed, as to why these guys do this for a living. And they've achieved this within the constraints of costs, target demographics and restriction placed on them by Lambo (probably). Very impressive. This is why TLG and they guys they employ are awesome... and pushrod suspension!! Add me to the happy camp... its the first car i want. I feel born again!!
  3. I'm usually not too excited about another supercar... I mean, i'm excited cos its a new technic set, and if that doesn't excite you, you're dead!... but i generally prefer construction and agriculture. But this is one mighty fine looking set! I'm much more enthusiastic than i was about the chiron. In a few months, once the price drops i'll probably buy this.. credit where its due, TLG done good. Plus, once i've built it, looked at it for 1.5 days and taken it to bits, my Xerion V3 will have a lot of lime green parts available!!
  4. There used to be a distinction.. 4wd was very simple and robust, like a landrover. AWD was sophisticated and less agricultural. But these days? That distinction doesn't really exist.. its become more of a marketing term. And the presence of a central diff isn't the difference between them.... but we're into semantics more than anything else here!
  5. That sounds just like me... i rarely keep anything built for long. The fun for me is in the building process, the puzzles and challenges, the trying and failing, and sometimes the success! But then i want to start the process again. Looking at the finished model has a short-lived appeal for me.
  6. Hey you know what? I applaud this... We see too many cars claiming to be 'super' that are just a gearbox with a pretty shell. This may not be pretty, but its what technic used to be about and still should be. Going crazy and building stuff! No ldd, not intended to sit on a shelf gathering dust. Its even got an airbag?!! The builder admits its not as beautiful as others, but i don't care... i absolutely love the sheer technicality of it. Sure there's reliability issues, but they can be fixed. V2 will be better, V3 better still.. progressive refinement is the JOY of lego. Its what lego should be about, not perfection on V1 and sealing it in a display case. Nothing replaces the crazy joy of building, and building, and building with real bricks. Wedging that extra function in and creating a hugely complex beast that has a life of its own!! And i suspect when modifications are started, it will fight back!! Like all great moc's do! We all know there are issues.... but so what. The awesomeness, the craziness, the AMBITION beats all of that... dull suspension and a gearbox in a pretty shell isn't very ambitious any more.. I love this for just having the balls to go for it!!! ..in fact remember the good old days when official sets were a 'car chassis'? Ditch the bodywork.. show off the functionality. Display it in all its complex glory!
  7. Suspension.. my favourite! It does on something as siginificant as suspension.. what is a supercar? Engine, transmission, chassis and suspension. Everything else is just a pretty frock its wearing. They may as well stick a straight 4 engine in it and use the same argument... TLG and Mocers go to immense effort to recreate the same number of gears and the same engine layout, and stick a spring between two 5L liftarms and call it suspension.. blows my mind that such attention to detail can be so selective and ignore such a massive technical element... i've raised it so many times, and no mocers have ever replied to say why they didn't try harder with suspension. Why moan loudly over the absence of ackerman steering, but not the inaccurate suspension... and the modded version never address it either. Everyone is suspension blind!!
  8. 28z wouldn't fit in 3L gearbox... 24z/8z is as big as you can go..
  9. The real chiron gearbox will look much the same... its what constant meshed gearboxes look like. Input shaft, output shaft, dogs and collars for selection and engagement. With only 2 ratio's, a lego gearbox cannot look like this... well, it can if its 2 speed! The original design has zero bearing on the lego design...
  10. Really?! None of the previous one have... its a pet gripe of mine!! I hope you're right... but history suggests suspension will be ignored
  11. Very true! Maybe the Tatra builders should show the supercar builders how its done!!
  12. Thats really easy... and the same as for most mocs ..stop ignoring suspension. The basic lift arms and hubs is lazy and unrealistic. I've only seen about 2 mocs and no official sets that have realistic suspension. I've no idea why its universally ignored by everyone when its a key complex technical system.... When i was 11 in 1983 and building group rally cars from lego, my suspension was more complex and realistic than whats being churned out these days... anti roll bars? Heave springs? Proper geometry? Add that to the Lambo (and 95% of mocs) and its starting to look interesting...
  13. I agree! It is a good looking set, its probably not for me but i'm open minded enough to compliment it still!! Maybe in the sales in a few months time when its 60% of rrp...
  14. No evidence or reasoned explanation - Just trolling for a reaction...
  15. Amen to that!! In the comparison pic above i think the Lego version looks better than the real thing! Visually i think its great, awesome looking set... but as mentioned above, the sacrifice of function means it doesn't grab me at all... Unless it turns out it has an average interior but accurate suspension. (never understand why the opposite is the case....)
  16. ??What ?! Not even close to the benchmark.. its a complex gearbox and..... not a lot else. A creator set with a gearbox? Possibly. Suspension totally inaccurate for a start and its form before function... Arocs is visually accurate and is a TRUE technic set from nose to tail... but before i go off topic too much... This Lambo looks great, love the colour, the styling is very attractive from what i've seen... but to be a truly great technic set is needs to learn from the 'one-trick-pony' chiron and have realistic technical elements, it is technic after all. I know the vast majority of them will end up on shelves... and thats not for me, but each to their own... but just because it is going on a shelve, should the suspension be as unrealistic as the chiron? Heave springs, anti roll bars, proper wishbones... maybe the Lambo will have them? I'll buy it if it does, but not if its just a gearbox in a shellsuit.. ..again,
  17. Visually i think its the best looking car yet produced... What are the chances the interior will be more realistic than the suspension geometry?!
  18. Perpetual motion! Check out the laws of thermodynamics... you're violating them!!!
  19. Too many display-only cars already!! Lets have a none-car super special range, designed for function rather than looking pretty.. a 4k piece flagship back hoe or something
  20. I think you are correct!! I've often suspected some 'leaks' are designed to raise the hype!!
  21. ..but this is technic?! Surely what you're describing is Creator or something.. technic should be all about functionality under the hood..
