  1. LEGO's selection would look awfully barren without City. Police sets sell, and sell well. It is a success story within the LEGO brand pretty much year over year. While I do feel the pain of mostly Cops and Robbers I also appreciate the rest of the selection. The builds get better the pieces more diverse and the possibilities even more amazing year over year. Also the unsightly shooters and net launchers can be easily left out of builds if you don't prefer them to use them. To the target market though this level of interaction is necessary anymore and frankly I welcome it, it encourages further innovation and research on LEGO's part. Plus for the time being there seems to be something for a fairly broad market and of course being LEGO the potential to mix and match from the existing lines is always present. The limit is only what you one can imagine doing with the bricks.
  2. I liked these two episodes a lot. A lot more than I thought I would. The only thing was it only tangentially set anything up for the "Finale." Usually they give us a big problem to stew on before it is resolved but nope, this time I guess they will throw everything including the kitchen sink at us during the actual last show. Interestingly, this method of going about it has me even more interested in how it is going to shape up! I will miss this series, flaws and all, when it is all said and done.
  3. Being a huge nerd sure does cause me to have to choose between LEGO and other stuff. Usually if it is not LEGO it is Bandai or Hasbro action figures. On occasion I will pick up a FIGMA action figure or an Amazing Yamaguchi and even some Medicom MAFEX. But not much else besides that. My collection is still overwhelmingly LEGO.
  4. That feels faster than TFA for some reason. I hope that date is similar here in Japan.
  5. I felt the same way. The teaser spot did a better job of hooking me along. This longer version one has basically explained the entire movie in a sense. Now the question is: to watch it to see the details between point A and B? Or wait for it till goes on rent and get the scoop then? Hmmm? Or just skip it outright?
  6. This day was bound to come to Youtube. It makes Alphabet Inc no money year over year in terms of profit and only produces large public embarrassments. I am surprised Alphabet hasn't tried to rebrand this site at this point. But also it is a warning to many creators who make decent content such as yours. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Specially not Youtube. Try to transfer yourself out to other platforms if you can and grow a following in many places not just one. Meeting all these new requirements in such a short notice is both unfair and cruel for small creators but also they(Youtube) are stressing putting real eyes on everything so this is an efficient way to cull the field for them. Sucks but Youtube is not longer a small fry haven for creative minds. It has become one with the rest of the garbage that is the internet and is trying to clean up at the expense of smaller creators. This by the way likely signals the end of Youtube as a launchpad for small to medium sized creators. At the very least it is the beginning of stagnation for Youtube. As it will be the bigger channels going for more and more clicks at ever increasing heights of idiocy that will thrive until that is all spent and the rest of Youtube shrivels with them.
  7. Looks cool. Around where I live we only have the Bandai kits. Would love to try this brand though. Sadly, it is hard to get a hold off here. With Bandai though you can army build quite a few troopers and they're great fun to put together. Plus you can customize models which is great fun. 8. Does this mean this set has an iteration b? Does the Box art reflect this? Also to stay on topic: I got 75105, which is my first Falcon and I love it. And I got 75200. Love that Luke! IMG_7008 by Macster Tome, on Flickr
  9. While some of these ideas sound interesting, they only serve to highlight how little Star Wars ultimately has to offer. Basically every suggestion has the "good vs. bad" theme all over it. And it being Star Wars we all know how that goes don't we? I think this is one of the reasons why Lucas always used to say there was no story after VI. Frankly, Star Wars is a brand that, if it hasn't already, is going to get pretty tiring the more of it we get. Just to drive that point home a bit more consider that in EPVII we saw Rey beat Kylo Ren. What exactly are we going to be getting in EPIX that is going to top that and tie it all up? Dark Side redeemed and brought back to the light? Well we saw that already in EPVI. Whatever the path will it be the "bad guys" winning this time so next time the good guys win? At what point does this road get too similar to keep people hooked? Now I love Star Wars, don't get me wrong, but if we are going by what each trilogy has actually brought to the table when its all said and done we don't really have much to show for it beyond the pattern already established by the OT. The PT was just a side reversal of outcomes and the outcome was known long before EPIII even hit theaters which made the point of telling them what exactly? Same goes for Rogue One. While it is a bummer, I do understand why a lot of people are now tuning out of this world altogether.
  10. Likely you will need to provide pictures so it can be assessed. The chrome, I believe, was painted on, and the arms get in the way of some of it (no coating is provided for the parts covered by the arms) So you may be looking at the part of the body that was not chromed due to the arms being in the way and it is giving you the image that something is "off" or "wrong" with your figure. But until it can be visually assessed by others more knowledgable in the subject it is just a guess on my part.
  11. In a lot of ways it always has been. Strip away the doodads and the setting and the same type of story has been told in literature and other media since the dawn of story-telling. Now, I love me my Star Wars and will take all I can (except the prequels, they put me right to sleep). Yet, what makes Star Wars special is, ironically, how mundane it actually is and how pedestrian its themes and stories flow. But like I said I love it to death. I can see its faults but I let it entertain me, boring as it's themes and rhythms are they do make approaching those a lot of fun. Disney should muster some courage though and take the franchise by the horns and steer it someplace new. I know they prefer the sure shots and the money in the bank but if they want it to keep printing money they need to really take the online rage in stride and keep at it. Let us recall EPV was not well received back in the day and RoTJ was and largely still is the butt of pop culture jokes to this day so there that is. Disney just needs to entertain and surprise us or they will kill this brand due to sheer saturation and underdevelopment.
  12. Personally, judging by the treatment of the older characters in the main line series of films I am surprised they bothered with a Han Solo movie and, apparently, an Obi-Wan stand alone movie. It just feels like they are ready to move on to the wider galaxy and tell us new stories but at the same time are too squeamish about how to handle that. One thing is for sure though, given the current climate online and offline; they will lose either way. Would not surprise me if they phoned them all in at this point since it seems they already broke even from their purchase of the brand. The rest is just bonus now.
  13. Love Rebels and really like the Ghost. I missed my chance to get the commercial set but staring at this beast more than makes up for it =) Great job! But now I cannot wait to see how you do the Phantoms!
  14. Almost neck and neck for me with Zimmer and Williams. Loved the EPV score from Williams but also have loved the many scores from Zimmer as well across multiple franchises and films. Can we put two at the top? Oo If so those two for me.
  15. The film does fail to explain the origin one these powers but it does very poorly explain how the younger force users best their masters. For Luke he had cut himself off from the Force which gave Rey an advantage when she confronted him after her chats with Kylo and his side of the story. For Kylo it is shown clearly during the first Force connection with Rey that he knows something is off. He states to Rey: (attempting to ascertain what is happening) "You aren't doing this, the effort would kill you." It is subtle but it hints that he has some knowledge of this power or has heard of it, plus that no one does it because it would kill them or at least kill humans like Rey. Thus by process of elimination he can deduce that since Luke would have no reason to connect them it must be Snoke. Sadly, the film was poor at setting up what Kylo did with this knowledge but we can surmise given later events that he must've set up a counter somehow such that Snoke would only see what Kylo let him see. The film does have plenty of weaknesses which I did pick out clearer during my second viewing but overall I still rather like and enjoy the film. I also picked up a lot more to appreciate the second time I saw it.
  16. That is the best attitude by far to be sure. I saw it with a few of my friends and thankfully we all just went to be amused and we were, we loved the flick and will see it again. Though I do find it engaging to debate on some chains of thoughts within films overall I try to enjoy them. So much of the commentary online just seems like problem invention cause heaven forbid one goes to the movies to enjoy them. If the samurai-space-wizards are that insulting just imagine the damage the Marvel movies are doing! Of course this does not mean there aren't bad movies but I can't fault TLJ as far as others seem to be doing all over the internet. I just don't see the terribleness they see I guess.
  17. 7. I can see that but in general she is no more a Mary Sue than Luke in my opinion. While you do have a valid criticism based on what you have seen I would like to add that by the time Kylo faces Rey in TFA, he has taken a shot from a bowcaster to the gut (which if you need to see what that does to people rewatch every scene where a bowcaster is shown literally blowing people into the air) and also received a wound to the arm (with no armor to deflect it) from Finn. Anyone in relatively better shape and able to hold their own in a fight would have beat Kylo Ren. (except Finn, cause SW plot armor is very strong in all these movies) I realize there a lot of fan theories about this but let's get real, TFA has given us more than ample evidence within its run time to let you know that a shot by a bowcaster causes serious damage. On Luke, it is also a fact that he had cut himself off from the force and he is not a spring chicken anymore. Without it foreseeing her moves with any weapon would not have been as easy as one would imagine. I think anyone in better shape not as old and in tune with the force would have wiped the floor with Luke at that point. But your overall conclusion about this movie dividing the fans like mad is correct.
  18. Well that is an instance where actually you highlight a very real tradition in Star Wars since the very first movie hit theaters. That tradition being "plot armor" and all of them have had it to varying degrees. In fact it is things like this that lead to a very rich EU back in the day and will likely lead to all sorts of new expanded stories for the current generation of Star Wars. Trying to account for those kinks in the plot armor is fun. But in short all of these movies have had a few moments where you can legitimately ask "why did they do that and not this?" This one is no different. Yet, somehow, the OT gets a pass on a lot of this stuff but the newer stuff does not.
  19. I think with some clever edits of Leia's scenes in sick-bay(some unused footage perhaps) we can open EPIX with her a bit broken hearted and giving herself to the force then. So the opening crawl would be something like: Devastated by the loss of her husband and brother, the fall of her son to the darkness and the decimation of the resistance Leia is dying. Feeling abandoned by her allies she calls on her closest companions to keep the flame of hope alive in a galaxy further teetering away into the total domination of the First Order. Meanwhile......blah blah Rey blah blah new rebellion blah blah. But yeah something like that would tie it up nicely if weakly. And frankly I don't know what else they could do unless there is a trove of unused footage from EPVII and EPVIII that can be turned into something like her commanding from afar or being tied up elsewhere. Although I think it would be cruel to depict her as being "busy" elsewhere at this point. This trilogy transitions us out of the OT cast and gives us new characters to stand on and new things to build going forward toward the end of EPIX.
  20. My parents had much the same concerns when I was your age. They just want to see time being spent more productively, probably school and what not. If you are pulling good grades and being responsible for your other duties then just do it in moderation. Believe me by the time you get to be 15 or 16 LEGO will likely be the last thing on your mind. I stopped thinking about LEGO around the age of 12 or so. did not get back into it until I was 38 some years back. So yeah there that is.
  21. Just peeking back at what is being written in the thread and it seems the movie has garnered a lot of reactions and points of view. I knew walking out of the theater it was going to be instantly divisive within the fan base. I was mostly shocked at my own reaction in that I accepted it all. The series is in transition so to speak. No longer is Lucas helming the overall vision, the original cast is literally dying off and a new generation of youngsters will have new heroes to anchor them to the series. The thing with Snoke? I say good riddance. The story is the last of the Skywalker saga and as such it is about Kylo Ren. Snoke served his purpose now erase that cartoon off the screen. Luke using all of his might to his last breath to keep hope alive? I am fine with that. I actually loved how his arch ended with him looking at twin suns. Likewise, from the get go were we supposed to take these villains all that seriously? I mean Snoke common? Kylo fighting a shadow in front of all his troops? Hah! In EPIX I predict the FO will shoot itself in the face, just like Kylo slicing Snoke. I would not respect Kylo after a display like that if I was in his army. And taken altogether these people have galactic ambitions? When Snoke was berating Kylo he may as well have been berating himself. Finn is Finn he represents that aspect of Star Wars that no one knows what to do with (Stormtroopers) so likewise he is just there in the movie taking up minutes. A shame really there is something there to work with but they choose not to see it or not engage it. Everything else: plot armor, but it is not thinner or thicker than it was in the OT or PT so I can live with it. All in all for a franchise in transition I really loved TLJ. I liked being surprised, I liked how messy it all is. I hope they keep throwing curve balls like that going forward. But that is just me, the movie did its job as a movie. I was oogly eyed all through it and it made me really crave the coming of EPIX.
  22. I am cool with Rey just being Rey. I mean do people ask who are Kit Fisto's parents? Or Obi Wan's? Like all those Jedi from the Prequels she is just a person born strong in the force. Personally I took it as a huge public rebuff of that awful midichlorian idea from the prequels (even though they're still canon). But it does sorta restore some of that old charm about the force.
  23. Saw it and I loved it. Definitely going to see it as many times as I can on the big screen this season. Virtually every prediction I saw online was waaaay off. I was literally taken by surprise by so much in this movie and I loved that. I am not sure every fan will react positively to this flick since there was a lot going on. But ultimately I like I am still not so dogmatic to Star Wars that I can't enjoy surprises =)
  24. I may have splurged a bit on myself this holiday >.> But I am still trying to round up mainstay characters and vehicles which I am sorely lacking and a lot of these sets were relatively small and not too pricey. 75168: Yoda’s Star Fighter (needed Yoda and R2-D2) 75172: Y-Wing Star Fighter (need the Y wing) 75173: Luke’s Land Speeder (needed all of the characters) 75183: Vader’s Transformation: (needed Emperor Palpatine)
  25. Saw the Chinese trailer and it shows a nano second of footage of resistance troopers fighting in some trench oh what I assume is Hoth 2.0. >.> I like what I am seeing so far, I hope the film delivers!
