  1. Well some of the 4 x 2 Wedges are not really safe and securely build into the slices. The original build has wider gaps but is a lot more sturdy since the slices construction is mainly 5 parts with 2 big wedge plates each. It does increase the part count aswell, but the main problem for Lego would probably be the lesser durability.
  2. Nope, I mainly used the picture from Dameronian below. For the underside of the slices you actually just need two different kinds of build and you can see both of them very clear (they are pretty basic but effective), the one with the communication dish will be repeated 3 times (8 Studs long), the others are the 7 stud long versions (the only difference is that you need to build some of them in reverse, but the structure is still the same). It confused me a bit at the beginning, but once you built the first two or three the rest go pretty fast. Overall it goes together pretty well and you can still adjust the construction to your liking.
  3. Pretty amazing how many details you were able to squeeze into this scale! Also the proportions are great and seem to be pretty accurate. Thumbs Up!
  4. Looks great, fantastic angles and definitely has a different and unique overall design touch to it. @krisandkris12 From a functionality perspective, yes. But from the design and the look, not so much in my opinion. I think the best representation of the real thing is still the UCS Version from Anio, especially in regard of the proportions and the design of the front: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54597&st=0 Comparison to the real thing: http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/f/f7/JuggernautROTS.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20091201162123
  5. Agreed, my guess is 70 - 80 Dollar minimum. But since we havent seen detailed pictures of the builds it could very well be around 800 pieces, and with that 100 Dollars seem possible.
  6. Well, maybe because Disney condemned the Expanded Universe as not canonical, Lego themselves are not allowed anymore to do products based on EU Material.... which would be a real shame, especially when we instead get fictional designs BY lego (which are the least canonical to me/ random generic Sci-Fi stuff with a Star Wars label smacked on)
  7. Whats that ship type actually called? I really like the design, looks a bit like the OR Zenith Escort Cruiser
  8. Last week I "analyzed" my First Order SF Tie Fighter to see what I can change in order to make the Set better/ more accurate without redesigning big parts of it. As you can see on the pictures below, there wasnt really much to do. The most noticable change is the inward facing side of the solar panels, that were changed to be more accurate in colour and structure. Aside from that, the other changes were: - Removed/ Replaced Spring-Loaded Shooters - Turret on the underside of the central body can rotate And thats it, the mod was roughly 100 parts. Of course you could argue because its a fairly simple build, there isnt that much do mod naturally. But I think the very good shape of the whole ship (central body, wing connections, wings), the proper Red Stripe as well as a good colourization should really be acknowlegded (especially when we look at other, way more inaccurate TFA Sets, like Kylo Rens Shuttle or even the First Order Transporter in regard of the proportions). The point I want to make is that the Set really met my high expectations (due to the high price) and really feels proper to what we see in the movie. So even with a controversial price I still think this set is the best on the TFA Line so far.
  9. So I finally decided to give the modification a try in addition to countless minor changes. I am really happy with the result. I hope those pictures will help other people to decide to do this kind of modification and if its worth it. I probably used around 250 pieces in total compared to the original. I would say it is worth it as long as you dont need to pay too much for the parts, especially the 4 x 2 Wedge Plates (I had to buy them for 50 cents PER piece, resulting in 18 Euro just for the Wedges alone). Regarding possible pressure on the pizza slices because they are thicker and closer together: There is little pressure on the ones that connect to the espace pods on both sides, but I dont think its much of a big deal. The parts are not bending. And the original for comparison:
  10. I highly doubt a UCS Cantina. Not only is the latest system cantina not that old and would "colide" with a similar UCS playset Cantina, but also because the Cantina itself is just not that spectacular. Sure its one of the most iconic Star Wars Scenes, but its not really fascinating from a design perspective. Even as a high budget playset its not that good since its onlys 2 scenes (compare that to the Death Star and its numerous scenes in both Ep. 4 and 6). In terms of Remakes, as long as Lego doesnt perfrom a design miracle with durability and stability, I wouldnt get my hopes up for a UCS AT-AT. But as far as I know at least the Snowspeeder is already a confirmed/secure rumour for UCS this year.
  11. From what we know the price will be 130 Dollar, I highly doubt that the final piece count will be so low for that price, EVEN for Lego SW Standards. @Slurpifier One the preliminary picture its clearly a standard 41st Elite Trooper (with the Scouttrooper Helmet) that controlling the AT-RT, and I dont think they give us a unique figure with a unique helmet mold just for the secondary miniature build of a big set. But weยดll see.
  12. Well it seems random at times but mostly their Remakes are getting more lazy. Same thing with the "new" Homing Spider Droid...
  13. I know right? The normal grey/white and blue looks much more crisper and fitting to me than the black and orange. In my opinion the X-Wing just doesnt work with those "extreme", almost comical colours. Might even picking that one up, especially since we get a normal Poe as well as a Flametrooper, just sad if they are not going to include a normal Stormtrooper as well.
  14. Hm the Blockade Runner is definitely an interesting idea for an UCS Remake. Its actually pretty amazing how well the UCS Blockade Runner aged, to me it still stands the test of time in its design and overall quality. A mere update for the framework/stability would already be enough in my eyes.
  15. Ok this is disappointing. The "new" CTT just looks like the old ones.... Where is the improvement? Especially the front of the upper body is still as inaccurate as before (in my opinion)... Seeing those prelim pictures, the Resistance X-Wing looks most interesting now.
  16. Noone saved the image? Cant find it on Instagram and I scrolled down pretty far A Resistance X-Wing would not make a lot of sense since we already got Poes X-Wing, but it would actually be more interesting to me. I like the standard colour a lot more and a Poe with his normal look (hair and jacket) would be a great addition to my SF Tie Fighter (In that case we would only miss Finn in Stormtrooper armor).
  17. Oh please, as if Lego is hanging on its last brick and seriously has to carefully calculate their costs/ prizes. They make less for more because they realize they can squeeze more out of their consumers, especially with Star Wars (since the Hype has returned with the new movies). Thats in particular obvious when you compare certain sets that are placed in different price/part-count segments and you realize that the prices are completely all over the place and sometimes are just randomly way over the top. But its not only the price-per-part count but also if you look at what you actually get for 10/20/30 bucks or more (Not all sets have a good mix of small and big parts), and with the recent small sets most of the times it felt to me that you got not enough for the actual price (Obi Wans Jedi Interceptor, Carbon Freeze Chamber, Attack on Hoth...).
  18. Looks amazing, but one thing that I am worried about is the stability of those lower Wings (especially in the S-Foil position). Are they only attached by 2 studs?
  19. Not too bad at all. Maybe making the Canopy one Stud longer, but it might be too long then since on this scale its hard to get something inbetween one stud. I actually tend to like those Midi-Scale X-Wings more than the System Scale Ones. The reason is that the visual quality doesnt suffer from either bending problems of thin wings nor do you need any special S-Foil mechanism. So yeah, nice design work and good colourization! Whats that tile on the back? Sticker?
  20. Dude there is expensive and then there is absurdly overprized. And this Set, that probably has a sticker sheet thats wider and longer than the ship itself, is the latter category. @atlas Its too many stickers for the size AND the prize of the ship. 35 Bucks for little over 200 bricks and no printed pieces? WTF. Compare it to the SF Tie Fighter, who is also considered a bit overpriced but at least has 3 big printed dish pieces...
  21. Probably, but I am 100% sure that it will not be a UCS Minifig-scale Slave 1 again. Only 5 years after an extremely good UCS version? Doubt it.
  22. Oh boy, just imagine how the price for the UCS Slave 1 will skyrocket until 2020 and after the Release-Date of the Boba Fett SpinOff... Time to buy those UCS Slave 1ยดs as long as they are avaliable for being Life-Insurance
  23. Completely agreed. Its a good review, but in my opinion the final score is still too high (7,6 out of 10 is still a very decent score). Its too expensive, its too many stickers and the droid looks completely off. In such a case I would actually prefer if Lego just went for an extra Droid head to simply place on the wing (or at least suggest people to do so with the one R4 you get). Just mind boggling how they made it worse in several ways, to me its basically a useless set (especially for the price).
  24. Absolutely agreed. Altough I really doubt that we get an updated version any time soon. I dont really know why, but I just dont feel that they will do it. Also an UCS version seems even more unlikely than an updated System Scale Version because that one already has huge wings. If you want to make them able to get in V-shape for an UCS model where the wings are even bigger and heavier, you would need some serious build (if its even possible).
  25. Absolutely agree with you. When I looked at pictures, Dioramas etc. I always would be a the-bigger-the-better person, but actually having several SW Lego Sets again and getting a feel for Lego again, I tend to like Mid-Scale Models/ Models with 2000 pieces max. more than giant versions that take several 1000 pieces (Of course depends on the original/real model size and the scale). For example I think the UCS Model that just has the perfect size for me is the UCS Slave 1 I bought when I returned to Lego after more than a decade. Its big, but not gigantic and at the same time the design is just amazing and worht of a collector/display label. Like you I dont even think that bigger automatically means better detailed. As I build several Lego SW Sets again and modding nearly all of them more or less, it feels like it absolutely comes down to the specific design. Even to the point where design aspects are not 100% accurate but instead are designed with Lego in a way, that they hint towards fine/real details or shapes (Greebling is the best example, since its impossible to get 100% accurate but still gets the effect done). The real big advantage of smaller scales/models however is the higher stability/durability they seem to have most the time, and thats not just for a playability reason but very much for the display quality as well (Looking at bending problems that get worse over time and really can hurt the visual apperance).
