Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores
Hewman replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I tried a few of the pre-order sets. None would ship to Aus. They're not available until September anyway, so they'll probably come up somewhere at a good price before then. -
I can't believe they made the architecture Whitehouse set with some of the R-rated shenanigans that have gone on in there. Sorry, I just wanted to add a little frivolity to the debate. Hewman A big fan of Firefly that probably would have only bought the set if it included several cast member minifigs which I doubt they'd do unless they were guaranteed big sales.

Some positive news on Australian pricing. The Sopwith Camel is listed on shop at home to be released on June 1 for $130. It's a pity it wasn't released a month earlier to take advantage of the free shipping. Still, once it makes it to a retail shop here, we might get it 20% off which is a very good price. -

I didn't know you can't get points on an order if you've used some previous ones on that order. That sucks. From memory, last year there was just the one occasion with free shipping and that was the same promo as this year's. Although that was once more than most years. Also for May 4 toys r us have a promo where if you spend $100 on SW lego you get a clone trooper battle pack. I assume it's one per order, so not exactly a great saving. -

Very little chance it will be here for the mid-year sales. I'd say grab it at shop at home and you'll also get VIP points and the free chrome minifig which would have to be worth $20+* on the market after the promo finishes. And you won't have to wiat months to get it from another source. *this is not a guarantee and I will not be held repsonsible for terrible financial advice -
Thanks for the info, Lynx. Although I think their RRPs are made up (although around the mark). They don't fit Lego's standard RRPs and many sets (not LotR) there with a known RRP are wrong.

Do you know if it has to be Star Wars sets that you purchase to get free shipping? $100 minimum spend doesn't sound too bad to me to save $40 on shipping. -
Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores
Hewman replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I've been keeping an eye on amazon.it and amazon.fr and the pet shop was first available there on December 2 and January 24 respectively. I'm hoping that they make sets available to us in Australia after 6 months, meaning June 2 for amazon.it. I haven't been able to find a set with the right release date to test this theory yet. Now this will test who keeps reading my posts. The death star is back on amazon.it for just 347 euros. -

The modular Fire Brigade is back on amazon.com. For those in Aus, I think it's about $170 shipped. -

For those that want to visit the Adelaide store, they had one Queen Anne's Revenge there half an hour ago and $150 is probably as good a deal as you'll find in Aus now. They also had plenty of Architecture sets, and a surprising amount of Friends sets. Oh and Battle of Hoth for those that haven't been able to track it down on sale elsewhere. -
I'm actually glad that they've redone and greatly improved on the Sopwith. I owned the old one, opened the box and never built it as it just didn't excite me like the Red Baron plane I'd already built. Sure I wish I didn't sell it for $60, but I won't care once I get this new one in my hands. Hopefully it's the start of some more old planes at this scale. I guess that will depend on how well this one sells.

That's the best review I've read in a long time. Well done to you all. The seit is a big improvement on the Sydney Opera House. To me a lot of the beauty of Big Ben is in the clock face so that regular Lego clock tile really bothers me. There are some fun building techniques and I think the designer did one of the best jobs I've seen in the Architecture line. I just can't get over the clock which my eyes are drawn to every time I see it.

Grogall, a big thanks for the pics. Any news on a release date? I wonder if the RAF symbols are stickers or printed. With how close they are to the edges of the tiles they're on they'd be difficult to stick correctly (for those of us that are not the most coordinated with sticker placement).

LEGO Festival of Play: 50 years in Australia!
Hewman replied to Siegfried's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Wow, the 'big announcement' today was a little underwhelming. I guess I'll have a look at the 'Lego Forest' (that doesn't appear to be made of Lego) when it comes to Adelaide but I won't be getting impatient to see it. The other information on the site is good though. I don't know if this is on in other cities as well, but The Art of the Brick is having an extended run in Adelaide. I get the feeling that it's replicas of the original models used, rather than the originals coming from New York. Anyway, for those interested Art of the Brick. I don't know if this is officially connected to the Festival of Play celebrations or not. Edit: I see it's already been in some of the bigger cities. -
To me this embodies what MOCing is all about, having great fun with your lego and filling in gaps in what Lego releases on the market. This set really adds to the playability of the AC theme!

Those prices match with all the ones I took note of from Mr Toys while back. However, their early listed prices haven't always been 100% correct. I'm hoping MOnster Fighters are right though because they're not too bad with a 20% off sale. -

Yep, the wallets certainly will hurt if you pay full price. It is going to be $699 still, see here (Mr Toys site). I wouldn't be ordering many in if I was a toystore owner. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Hewman replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
If you look closely, this was carefully worded by TLG Sales of licence based product lines in particular were well above expectations in 2011. This was the case with, for example, with LEGO® products based on Star Wars™, Harry Potter™ and Pirates of the Caribbean™. I think there were two Lego products based on the PotC that probably sold well, the two ships, the Black Pearl in particular. However, I think the above does not state that all products in any particular line sold well. I know one Lego retailer who through his own experience and from what Lego reps said to him that PotC did not sell well at all in Australia, however we had extremely high prices for these sets compared to all other themes except possibly Star Wars. -
I finally got around to submitting my vote and saw you have well and truly passed 500 and have an encouraging message from Lego. Well done and good luck! Hopefully bumping the topic also gives you a few more votes.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

This was reported on Brickset flump6523 said: Incidentally, since TLG have now chosen not to continue with the PotC license (due to poor sales), The Flying Dutchman, despite already being designed and built will not go into production! :o( As far as I'm aware flump6523 has been a reliable source, but if anyone knows otherwise, please speak up! -
I've added my vote. The one advantage this has over regular scrabble is that the tiles won't slide around everywhere. Does it need a separate little display to explain what the coloured 2x2 jumper bricks mean, eg double word score et cetera?
