  1. In a pickle with myself. The Death Star 10188 is a really great looking set. My only problem is that I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. In fact, I enjoyed the movies growing up, but I haven't bought a LEGO Star Wars set yet, and don't really follow it. I have been eyeing Tower Bridge 10214 for some time now. While I realize the collectors value in the Death Star, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth buying if I don't really enjoy the theme a lot. Build, pieces useful/unique for MOC, etc Help/input?
  2. Tereglith, it looks like you're getting the 10% off in that pic. 10% of $159.98 is ~$16, but is that what you're referring to?
  3. grohl, I've been wandering through this topic, and I must say...I'm not a huge Technic fan, but your work is literally mind numbingly good. My favorite is still probably your praying mantis, but absolutely everything you've got in here is CRAZY good. Keep it up!!!
  4. Dear lord, I've been browsing Amazon for deals, and it appears as though EVERYONE is price gouging right now. The VW Van is up new for like, $160? There are also a LOAD of Grand Emporium sets going for nearly $200. I don't understand!
  5. I took a look at the Death Star after everyone was encouraging the above poster to buy it. Which will be around longer, that or the Tower Bridge?
  6. Interesting (and great!) replies. I'll probably make a trip to the local store soon. It's about a 40 minute drive or so, so I need to make it worth it! I do have 2 of the holiday boxes already for after Christmas, so I could go and work my way to a third, haha. If they ever ask you about your LEGO habit, do you divulge anything specific?
  7. I have a question - somewhat unrelated to the packing process...Do you ever get weird looks when you're sitting there doing an "optimal" cup packing?
  8. Oh Amazon Prime, how you tempt me... Got these both for $60 shipped. Saved me $15 + tax off of retail. <3 No VIP points, but saving ~$20 > 75 VIP points.
  9. I guess you have a good point. I mean, unless the piece is rare, I shouldn't necessarily be relying on that last piece to complete my build. :P And I'm all for coming up with a site or something where high quality scans are submitted and stored for printing! It seems like a smart idea...
  10. Once my fiance and I are married with kids, I fully intend to expose them to the LEGO hobby! If they bite and enjoy it, more power to them (and more fun for us)! That being said, specific stuff will probably be "off limits", but only until they're older and have a little more respect for it.
  11. This is where I'm at. I guess part of it is the fact that I'm not an experienced MOC'er, so I don't look at a piece's usefulness in MOC'ing yet. That's partially what makes it tough to decide.
  12. Man, if Robie goes down, I'll be there! But for $200, there are SO many other sets I'd rather have right now. I was fortunate enough to visit that and Wright's Home & Studio. He was DEFINITELY a visionary! Emerald Night is a BEAUTIFUL train set, if you're into trains. If trains aren't totally your thing, pass it up and grab a holiday set + some other stuff. Also, remember that last year, Lego stores were marking down the Bakery after the holidays, so they MAY do that again this year.
  13. So I decided to come back to Lego finally! I'm rebuilding my collection, and as I go, I'm finding a lot of these sets have a few stickers to go with it (be it 1-2 or upwards of 6+). So far, I've chosen NOT to apply them. I figure that once I've displayed the model for a little while, I'm going to take it apart and either rebuild it (for that tactile joy) or MOC with it. So as a result, I wouldn't want to lock a given piece into a given role by having a sticker on it. What are everyone's thoughts on this? The best example of this is, recently, the 4866 Knight Bus that I just assembled. There are two little stickers that identify the bus and such. But especially with those awesome purple bricks, I opted against it. The 5770 Lighthouse Island Creator set had a few reflective stickers on it that I also said no to because I couldn't see myself USING the bricks as reflective pieces ever again. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid/over-protective of my pieces, or maybe not. How do y'all go about this?
  14. I grabbed 3816 Glove World for $15 at Wal-Mart today. I also grabbed the new 4866 Knight Bus finally. It was on sale for $25 if you bought it online and did a delivery or store pick-up. Very excited!
  15. I had a friend look over it. His response: "It says, "beautiful" and "dragon". I might be wrong (I don't practice writing kanji at all, too lazy) but the box at the bottom of the dragon kanji might have a straight bottom, not curved like it is in the photo. " Double check that, and you should be OK!
  16. Thinking about biting. I mean, the VIP points + the Holiday Set 2 make it, uh, worth it? I try to legitimize my purchases too much, hahaha
  17. I visited the new store yesterday, and that's where I saw it [again]. I wanted the new VW, so that came first, the Lighthouse Creator set was just too good of a deal to pass up (500 pieces for $40? Yes please), so I passed on the Tower Bridge. But the more I think about it, the more I sort of want that thing. My family is always wanting to get me things for Christmas (even though I'm a grown man lol), so I may just tell them to get me a Lego gift card so I can apply it towards a nice purchase like that.
  18. As Spongebob is probably one of my favorite shows on (I remember when it first started, and I loved it), I'll probably work to start gathering up the various sets. I don't currently own any, but I need to change that! The show reminds me of a modern day Ren & Stimpy, and there are definitely some adult jokes going on under the childish coat of paint! Looking forward to these!
  19. *phew* This makes me feel...better. :) It bums me out when I miss a super great deal that I actually want because I'm not a Black Friday kind of guy. That being said, I'll still try and sort o it my Tower Bridge dilemma!
  20. I just grabbed the new VW and the Lighthouse Creator Set. I'm kind of trying to decide in if the Tower Bridge (10214) is worth the high price tag. The set looks nice, has a lot of pieces, but in terms of MOC use - how viable is it? Are there better options for that price point? I want to take advantage of the double point thing they have going on today at S@H. I'd maybe wait for some crazy sales or whatever, but I hate shopping Friday after Turkey Day...I'll probably miss out on some crazy good deals on Lego, but it's the price I pay I guess, haha.
  21. I've edited the first post with a better idea of what's going on. I'd really like to get an idea of where people stand if I can't end up selling the entire lot. If the actual value that I get out of it is not near what I would sell the full lot for, I probably won't piece it out. The time it will take for that will take a VERY long time, and I don't have too much more time to deal with it. :|
  22. NEW FIRST POST: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prices based off of Amazon for the hard to find sets. 3181 - Tank Truck - $19.99 - No box 3661 - Bank & Money Transfer - $49.99 - Have box 3833 - Krusty Krab Adventures - $19.99 - New in box 3834 - Good Neighbours at Bikini Bottom - $39.99 - No box 5766 - Log Cabin - $29.99 - New in box 5891 - Apple Tree House - $44.99 - No box 6180 - Hydro Search Sub - $59.95 - Old set. No box, not sure if I have instructions. May be missing a few pieces...I have not parted it out yet, but to my knowledge, it is at least 95% complete, potentially 100% 6766 - Rapid River Village - $269.99 - Old, very collectible set. No box probably have instructions, but I'm nearly positive the set is 100% complete. Would have to part it out, but the main "collectors" pieces are there (teepee, Indians, baseplate, etc) 7171 - Mos Espa Podrace - $249.99 - Another old and collectible set. No box, but I do have instructions for sure. I would again have to part it out, but I know it's almost complete (if not 100%). The pods were put together a few months back when I took it apart and sorted the pieces. 7191 - UCS X-Wing Fighter - $1099.99 - INCREDIBLY collectible set. I do not have the box, potentially have the instructions. The stickers are missing, but the main "display" sticker is still there. The sheet goes for ~$60 on bricklink.com, so with that + this set, you've got a crazy deal. I should have all the parts to this, but this is easily the centerpiece of this collection. 7327 - Scorpion Pyramid - $99.99 - No box 7566 - Farmer - $3.99 - New in box, have 2 7639 - Camper - $16.99 - No box 7936 - Level Crossing - $19.99 - No box 7937 - Train Station - $49.99 - No box 7938 - Passenger Train - $129.99 - No box 7939 - Cargo Train - $179.99 - One is new in box, one does not have box, have 2 7946 - King's Castle - $99.99 - New in box 8061 - Gateway of the Squid - $39.99 - New in box (opened box, but never removed anything) 8259 - Mini Bulldozer - $9.99 - New in box 10193 - Medieval Market Village - $99.99 - No box 10194 - Emerald Night - $99.99 - No box 10211 - Grand Emporium - $149.99 - No box 10216 - Winter Village Bakery - $54.99 - No box 30002 - Police Boat - $1.99 - No box, have 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The value of everything, including all the RC track, is just shy of $3500. When PM'ing me what you're interested in, please put what you're willing to pay for the set alone. If anyone DOES happen to have interest in the entire collection (RC track included), let me know as I'm looking to get just under half of the value of everything here so I can afford to help out the family. Thanks guys! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was a very recent family situation within my immediate family. In order to help out, I'm looking to sell off some of the Lego I've gotten as gifts and bought for myself in my short time of coming out of my Lego dark ages. http://www.brickset.com/search/?OwnedBy=nicoga3000 Here's a list of all that I own (I think, may be missing a set or two). All the pieces are broken down into my crazy sorting method that I've got. I also have a LOT of RC track available (I can give information on this if anyone is interested). I'm looking at keeping a few special sets, but most of what you see is up for grabs. Contact me via PM if you're interested or have questions. This is not an immediate need to sell, but what I can start helping them with now is welcome. Also, in terms of how I'm selling it...I have very few boxes (except for sets that I've added a NiB or other such comment to). I have all instructions. I haven't decided if I want to piece by piece it out for resale or if, after looking at what I have, someone is interested in putting together specific offers. Just give me an idea. As I said, there are a few sets I'd like to hold on to - the Falling Water, Spongebob, and probably Emerald Night because it's so gorgeous. The rest is pretty available. Thanks all - hopefully we can get this sorted out in my family, but until then, family before play. ------------------ E: I'm thinking that, if you are wanting a specific set, I'll sell it for 30% off retail. It will include the instructions, all the pieces according to the instructions, and shipping to US locations. The reason it's not cheaper is because I have to go through and pick out all the pieces from all of the containers I have sorted out. This is just what I'm thinking for now.
  23. This really is a beautiful piece. I dig the simplicity yet high level of detail in your creation here. Can't wait to see the rest!
  24. Oh my gosh, wonderful! Time to spend money...lol
  25. What are some good "train bases" to buy for custom trains? This would be for RC trains, not sure if that plays any role in the decision.
