nicoga3000 replied to Locutis's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Oh my, I was JUST thinking about this set on my way back to the office over lunch. Might have to pony up some Benjamins for ANOTHER mega set. :P -

This is super incredible! Great great job. -
Little scenes and creations like this are what have me excited to start creating my own MOC's. Great job on this!

LEGO VIP Program Point Problems
nicoga3000 replied to Capt. Thomas Foolery's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The website made it sound like you only got VIP credit for purchases made online or over the phone. How can you get credit for purchases made at the store? -
I'm setting up an account now. Thanks for the heads up! I also got some info on a nice TRU sale that I'll be running over to after work today, haha. And I have one of the Spongebob sets already, and I'll be grabbing the other one after I find it!

See, I've got a niche place for boardgames in my heart (Runebound, Castle Ravenloft, House on Haunted Hill, etc). So I was unsure if these would seem...I don't know, grossly watered down or not. But if any of the pieces are worth buying some of the games for, I'll keep an eye out for sales on these suckers.

New Lego Exclusive 10217 Harry Potter Diagon Alley
nicoga3000 replied to GRogall's topic in LEGO Licensed
The set seems amazing, but I'm just not a huge fan of the Harry Potter stuff. This MIGHT be the one set I consider picking up though, since there's SO many wonderful pieces that can be used for modular MOC's. -
Thanks for the warm welcome - it's nice to know the AFOL community isn't full of elitist jerks. And also, I'm glad there's at least one other adult Spongebob fan, haha. The show is starting to introduce some adult humor underneath it all, and I approve! As for the "collectible" sets I have...I'm actually tempted to unload the Indian set. For the going price I'm finding online, I COULD pretty much pay for that amazing Tower Bridge set I've been eying, too. Tough tough tough decisions...

That's too bad - I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. And that's how I think I could get my fiance on board with the large amount of LEGO I'm amassing, haha. We got engaged in Disney, and she's looking to do our wedding there. What better way to get her involved than letting her build something she absolutely loves? The Pirates of the Caribbean sets might be on my list, but I'm a MUCH bigger fan of modular sets. :) Thanks anyways for the info. I'll try and keep an eye on what's coming, too.

While in Disney World last week, at the Lego store nonetheless, I started to wonder why I hadn't seen any Mickey/Minnie/etc based sets yet. Someone at the Lego store said something regarding licensing issues, but I want a little more info (if it's even available!). I can see a few mega sets being viable, and a lot of neat landmark/nostalgic pieces as well. So are there plans for future Disney themed sets?

I'm curious - do the older Lego fans buy these for the pieces or for the actual game? And are the figs unique to the games, or can you find them elsewhere?

Hi there - while visiting family over Thanksgiving, I found all my old Lego sets! I couldn't wait to get started building again, and shortly after stumbled upon this site. I'm a structural engineer, and I think that's where my interest in modular structures comes from. I love the bridges, buildings, and all the little nuances that go with them. I'm waiting to pick up Grand Emporium until I get all my other stuff sorted, haha. I've recently purchased: Scorpion Pyramid Good Neighbors at Bikini Bottom Apple Tree House I've been a fan of Spongebob since the show started - I guess it's the kid in me! And I really enjoyed the idea of the standard house. Not only does it give me some excellent pieces to put together some ideas, but it was a fun build. The Pyramid is definitely my engineer coming out - really loved the build, too. Building sets is proving to be a great way to understand building techniques. Anyways, I look forward to building more, growing my collection, and learning how to create the amazing works of art I've run across on this site so far. As a parting note, here's the few things I found that grabbed my interest again! Apparently, the Indian set goes for a LOT online, as does the Mos Espa set. I'm pretty sure that X-Wing is the old 7191 set, and I'll be visiting family for Christmas to try and find the box. It feels good to have some "collectible" sets. Chances are, I'll just end up adding the pieces to my sorting, as it's not about the money/value. It's all about the hobby. Thanks all! E: Ick - typos.

The nearest LEGO store to me is nearly 3 hours away, so this is relative. S&H charges for standard shipping is $12.95. So I paid $113 (after my $5 coupon) versus $112.94, which to me, sounds like a pretty obvious choice. E: Not meant to sound like a dick, sorry if it comes off that way. :) Just pointing out the uniqueness of my situation. Low taxes here in Indy, and oddly low markup compared to what I'm reading in this topic.

This would be really cool - a large grocery store would be a lot of fun and a GREAT addition to the collection. But a cinema would also be neat...Do it like one of the new megaplex style. :)
-
Wow, just ran across this and I have to say - GREAT job!
-
Thanks for sharing. The space stuff has always been intriguing. This will be a good time for me to grab a few sets. :)
-
I appreciate what you've done - if you could get your hands on a less explosive color set, I think it would really add to the ship. And if you could smooth out some of the transitions with slope bricks, it would take it that extra step. I dig it though - nice work!

I bought the Pyramid mega set from TRU for only a $8 markup. I don't feel that's too terrible given the cost of shipping from the online store or taxes at the actual LEGO store. The only thing I hate about buying at retail stores is the incredibly bare selection. My local Wal-Mart, Target, Meijer, and K-Mart are all carrying nearly identical product, and it's all really kind of crappy. The TRU has the best selection, but the highest markup, so it's definitely a tough game.

REVIEW: 7327 Scorpion Pyramid
nicoga3000 replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
So I bought this sort of on impulse last night, and wow. I've already had a thing for the Egyptian themed "stuff", so this fits my style. After getting the set put together, I was excited to put it on my display shelf as a boxed set I will probably NOT be taking apart for pieces. :). Oh, and the Anubis minifigs are my favorite thus far. 100% worth the cash on this one.
