Yeah, I realize I won't be judged, I just need some help deciding. :) Obviously I'll be holding onto the instruction manuals in case I want to rebuild/glean building techniques, but it's sometimes hard to toss the nicer boxes or mix all those neat pieces in, haha.

So as I start to grow my collection, I begin to realize the...situation that I've put myself in. I have around 8 or 9 boxes that sets came in. Is it "standard AFOL practice" to keep these? I'm weird in that I find it hard to throw them away, but they're taking up a pretty hefty chunk of space. My next question. This is probably preference, but I'm a bit weary on this one, too. My "larger" sets that I have right now include Grand Emporium and Medieval Market Village (amongst others). The Emporium has been put together for close to two weeks now, and I recently started on the MMV. I also finally started sorting everything. I have like, 14 medium/large containers that I've sorted by color. Eventually, I'm going to try and figure out how I want to sort the colors, but until then, this will do. My question is this - for those of us interested in MOC'ing, do you find yourself assembling the new set, admiring it for a little while, then combining all the pieces with your buckets of LEGO? Is splitting up the set into sorted containers a "bad" idea? I know it's a very subjective topic, but hearing people's thoughts and opinions is what helps sway the new AFOL's like me. ;) Thanks for the pro-tips everyone!

I think it boils down to preference. I care more about the entire feel of the model - how much does the piece suck you into the world you're building? Example, I was sort of let down by the Grand Emporium after I finished it - the first floor was amazing, the outside was amazing, the facade was amazing...But the second and third floor (minus the chandelier) were uninspiring at best. Some of the MOC's I've seen (the Russion Subway by Konnak for example) have just been AMAZING with the level of detail. But again, whatever makes you happy as the creator!

5766 Log Cabin (III) LXF File Errors - The turkey leg piece is connected, but the piece (Neck Bracket with Back Stud) will not connect with the turkey leg. As such, it's hiding behind the cabin. - I could not get the boat to sit on the water because of the two round plates on the underside. If anyone can help me figure out how to get the white background in LDD4, I would love you. Also, I'm almost positive all of these colors match up the Peeron color chart. If there's any hidden bricks I missed in my recoloring, let me know and I'll get it adjusted ASAP.

Tower Bridge is on my list for sure...Just waiting until I find the right time for that one! :) Taj Mahal is a sexy piece, I must say. Problem is, I don't know where to find it without paying a small fortune!

It's nice - I'm just sad that you didn't check out the reservation post about me having reserved that model on 5 Jan (work takes precedence, got it done in spare time). I finished it and was JUST about to upload it. But at least it's done!

Great job - a LOT of hard-work and dedication went into this one I'm sure. :)

Yeah, I have Grand Emporium, Apple Tree House, Log Cabin, Medieval Market, and Winter Bakery Village. Just trying to see if there are any other "must haves" for modular fun, or just for really sweet, hard to find, rare pieces. Is the Diagon Alley set worth it for creative modular builds?

Is there a good set out there that has a solid chunk of "hard to find" pieces in it? I know that's a really vague question, but after I finish putting together 10193 Medieval Market Village and 5766 Log Cabin, I'm going to start disassembling everything I own and sorting out everything. After that, I'm going to delve into the world of MOC fun. That being said, I'll probably start with modular stuff. Any tips/help/suggestions for a set or two to grab?

This is the sort of thing that you can show people who don't get the whole AFOL thing to help them see the beauty of it all. Wonderful piece of work!

Very cool! Question - is that windmill from 7747 Wind Turbine Transport?

This is stunning - awesome piece!

How open are you about your Lego passion?
nicoga3000 replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm a younger AFOL (read: 24). I just came out of my "dark ages" about a month or so ago, and I would say there's a bit of a weird feeling to it at the moment. My friends don't care, but then again, most of my friends are into "different" things, too (40k, Magic the Gathering, etc). We're the guys who look normal at the bar but have crazy nerdy hobbies. :) My thing is the whole resurgence that happens. I've bought quite a few LEGO sets in the past month due to that overwhelming joy of LEGO being new to me again. That much doesn't bother me, but I know I'll have some explaining to do when my fiance visits again! Haha - but that's another bridge entirely. When I buy sets at the store (which I seldom do thanks to the crappy selection and no nearby LEGO store), the clerk almost never asks. If a comment is made, I'll merely agree with them to make my life easier! When I bought the Fallingwater Architecture piece at the LEGO store in Chicago (while I was with my fiance, so there's another boost to getting her on board!!), the lady asked who it was for. I told her straight up that it was for me and for my office - which it is. She thought it was pretty cool and started talking about how obsessed she still was with LEGO, and it made it sort of fun. :) So would I say I'm ashamed? Not really - just not ready to share the art that is LEGO with everyone who asks. Yet. -
Can I ask a "noob" question? I want to grab some stuff from Bricklink to just increase my collection for MOC's. Is there big collections of LEGO that people sell, or do I have to go and grab individual bricks that I think I might use?

I really loved all the pieces for modular structures included, so I bought: 10193 Medieval Market Village

I enjoy New Year's typically. I try to go have a good time usually, but this year, my fiance had to work the next morning at 8 am. So we watched a movie and ate food. Not bad, but nothing too exciting.

So I'm about to buy 7747 Wind Turbine Transport. I'm also looking to get either: 10210 Imperial Flagship 10197 Fire Brigade 10155 Maersk Container Ship Only looking to grab one right now. Any suggestion on which of those to grab?
