Probability of returning to Classic Pirates after POTC...
MstrOfPppts replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
You are being to picky here. You are forgeting that LEGO is a toy, firstly meant for children. We also have thousands of cartoons, where the islanders (either in pirate or medieval era) are represented as a bunch of almost naked, bones in hair wearing guys with no culture and they're mostly canibals. For children that works, and there really is no more. I really liked the islanders line, it brought some diversity into pirates line, but speaking of political or racial problems some of you see ... I think there are no such things in toys nor LEGO. Besides they sticked with the neutral yellow for these guys, although I'd prefer them black, and the Western theme indians red. The world just is as it is, and noone can change it. Stereotypes and cliches will always exist and if they use them in toys, I have no problem with that. Children get the general ideas from the cartoons, in which case some are far more problematic than an innocent Islanders line from LEGO! -

Although I really like the picture, after reading the story I agree with Taz, that the BSB would fit in the picture nicely. Also I think that there's too much intro in the story, since the story should be about POTC and classic pirates meeting eachother and that's just the half of your story. But I know that 300 words is a big limitation. Else I like the idea ... and good luck from me too! -

Yes, I hope they last at least so long, that we get the sets from the other 2 movies as well! Anyway they still have a lot of material to easily make 4 more vawes, which is about 2 years time. -

I know, but the Simpsons are yellow as well, and yellow clearly represents the lighter tone of skin and they also have brown for black people. Even if they went for all flesh, they could just say their sets represent European cities, since TLG is from Europe and there's just not that many black people. Basketball players were all brown ... Edit: sorry for off topic, just realized that it's not the most appropriate theme to discuss this ... -

On the contrary to Zeya I only have QAR and I must say I really like it. Although I have no classic pirates big ships - only a small one, i think this one is the nicest. BSB is nice, but the color range in the past was not that wide and the lack of brown is quite disturbing. I think it would be great (though it most probbably will never happen) that LEGo turned his whole minifigs to flashies. In that case we'd have enough heads to create great MOCS for POTC and also other themes. I've seen some really great Western and castle MOCS with flesh colored heads, and they looked really good, not to mention more realistic. As the color schemes with brown and all additional colors are following the reality, the flesh heads are more appropriate too. -
Pirates of the Carribean Contest - ENTRIES CLOSED
MstrOfPppts replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Although I'm quite new to the pirates part of the forum and am not avare of how thigs here worked in the past, I have some constructive not creative critics about this competition. Yes it can count under the critic part of competition ;) Somewhere I read that the competition starts this weekend, so I presume the rules will get finalized and won't talk about them (yet). But I am certeanly not very fond of the voting scheme that is presented because of multiple things: First thing that bothers me is the ammount of points each voter gets. 5 should be maximum and bonus points should be added to a lower number if they are necessary. Or the max ammount you can give to one entry could be limited to lets say 3. Else I think the points will boost some entries too quickly, even though they may not be that much better. The thing is someone can easily pick top 3 entries, but more is more time consuming or hardly anyone does for different reasons. Also we all know the problem of voting for friends, where posts like X points to YGUY - where X is the ammount of points a voter gets and YGUY a friend of the poster might be problematic if giving each voter too many points ... Yes I don't have many friends :(.. The second thing is all the fuss about forum, blog and facebook. I mean why do we have to follow multiple things, when all the information can be gathered in one place. I rarely visit the blog apart from the forums site but I've never seen anything there, that would not be in the forums, make it be either a MOC, competition or anything else. Double work for people maintaining the sites. And if two things weren't enough, there's this facebook thingy. Come one people, I thought this was an adult forum ... not forcing but even encouriging us to use the social networks might give some people different thoughts (and they are not positive). Yes I don't have any social network account but still exist! Last but not least is the voting for yourself. I understand that it is in a pirates way to do so, but getting a 200% boost for the stupid reasons described above is a bit lame. Also the other competition about the comentaries to the picture might've been a bit off. That's why only a few people voted I guess. Many prefer voting for Mocs to reading a bunch of comentaries and then decideing which one suits them best (Many might only read half of them). I don't know is the pirates community so much smaller or why did competitions like minifigs and D2C get over 5-6 pages of votes. Please don't get me wrong and I'm sorry if the words used were to harsh. I really appriciate competitions like this and can imagine all the work there is behind the organisation and especially the rewards gathering. There for a big thanks to the organizers is in place! But the mentioned things bothered me and questions like what's up with the cometaries part? Who's going to judge them and how will it work? came to my mind. And then a competition of story writing (I do like it and will enter with something if only I find enough time). But! Won't there be too much reading and not enough people dedicating their time to read it all and vote for it? Is there even a point in entering then? The ammount of rewards is astonishing and someone could make a competition like make a MOC for each of the movies? Imagine the ammount of cool MOCS there could be. After all it's a LEGO forum ... I only suggest that the competitions are organized in a way, so that the entrants don't get the feeling it's not worth participating or that they don't have a slightest chance of winning and so it's as fair and friendly for everyone as possible. P.S. Sorry for the wall of text, I just thought someone had to point it out. Or is it just me? -
Why not just include the interceptor? That is a fine way of doing it - Lego usualy doesn't want to put 10+ minigs to populate a ship, so make it turn into story, put the mentioned minifigs in and get a nice ship!

Picture Comment Challenge - Counting up the votes
MstrOfPppts replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
My 3 points go to: Ed Boyd - It turned out that this was a really bad moment to pull a practical joke on Jack as he attempted to pull off the "Swords from the floor" trick that Barbossa and Elisibeth had used in Singapore. I really can't imagine how hilarious this situation would be. Expecting the sword and getting the fish from between the planks in the floor! I only think that Jacks face expression doesn't suit it. Or maybe it's after he realized he's doomed and goes into a fish slapping rage ... -
Hey, I'd like to note, that there is Samuel Nicholson's comment: Its like in the Bible, theres enough fish for everyone! attached to a comment above and displayed all in red, instead of being in a separate line and formted propperly!

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
MstrOfPppts replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Ha, that really is a strange answer ... though there is still time to change it and I think the current height is quite enough and it already has the over top feeling, since it's higher than the rest of the scenario. I usually always mess my MOCs when it comes to angles in my head, which come out quite different when I put it together. Anyway I'm not trying to convince you anything, it's just a sugestion from how I see it. After all it's still a great MOC and I'm hardly waiting for upcoming updates! -

Amazing work, I just have one question - why do you have to reach that height in the corner? The road just looks to steep in the middle section, especially for pulling carriages ... -

Since there's a lot of talk about the movie here, I'll share my oppinion with you. I must agree with what Deckard said about the score. Really couldn't give it more than 8/10, but still it's a good mark. Though all the previous 3 movies deserve a 9 if not 10. I don't usualy read reviews of movies - especially not before I see one, so I can create my own pisture about it - so I can't say I read anything bad about it. But to the movies ... I really saw no lack of Will and Elizabeth. Can't say their acting was bad or anything, but since their story came to an end in the previous trilogy, there was no need in pushing them inside. The actors are really cool and Jack and Barbossa do the majority of hte job in this movie. Blackbeard is also well done and fits in the story well! On the other hand I must agree with David that the part with Syrene and Philip is pretty annoying, but luckly there's not too much of it! All in all the movie is great, it has a great story and most important did not loose the pirate feel! For my taste it was just a little bit less action oriented, since there is no ships gun fights and no major battles. Some more thoughts in spoilers: -

Why is everyone so eager to see Davy Jones in the Black Pearl set? He was never on the ship ... I'd prefer to see the flying Dutchman made as well! -
Should paint the legs and torso as well, since the reference picture shows a lot more skin. And I'd go with white eyes like in reference, but nice job anyway. The hair looks original ...

Steampunk is fiction where everything, well most things are powered by steam. So yes the tubing and plumbing is necessary if you want to make a nice steampunk presentation. For air vessels zeppelins and helicopter like rotors are also necessary, since it's the only way one can imagine the thing flies. Steampunk is meant to be a historic universe with steam doing the job of electricity. Brown color? It's also a must. I myself have a big lack of that color, that's why I don't doo steampunk stuff. As said it's an historic universe, where most things are built of wood and brown is the best color to represent it. Of course different metals are also used, but since golden and chrome pieces are even rarer than brown (ordinary gray looks more like stone) people use brown as the main steampunk color. And about cannons. Every historic universe has wars, so yes they can be included but are not that mandatory. You can always create a civilian type of vehicle or building...

Although I hope the contrary, I doubt this is the exact model we'll see. Lego ships never had the whole top deck - cannons deck totaly covered. Maybe the outline will be similar, but the deck is only for the playability of the game I think. And again as I already said, I still hope the crew is from the first movie and we get more interesting zombies ... -
A interesting build and I must agree with Danthebrick, these pictures don't do the model justice.

Design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) Results!
MstrOfPppts replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Congratulations to everyone from me as well. I too agree that the resoults could be displayed for everyone to see. All the pints counted and displayed, so not everyone would have to count them for himself, since it's already done by the competition organizator. I understand that it's hard to say someone came in last, but it's an adult forum and I think everyone would understand that they didn't come in last becouse their MOC is terrible, but because others ure just slightly better either in idae or realisation ... -
VOTING: Design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) set
MstrOfPppts replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Hero go my votes: 13 Attack on the Nile by Yatkuu - 3 points - Simply my favorite entry from the day I saw it! 14 The Cairo Bazaar by Athos - 2 points - Really like the idea of multiple smaller parts being put together as a whole. 12 Attack of the Dojo by lego-maniac - 1 point - Huge and also beautifully created with a lot of nice detail. 10 Ninjago Battle Chess Arena by Kris Kelvin - point - As already mentioned not representing a D2C nor theme the best, but I think the realization is so good, it deserves at least a point. And honorable mention to 31 Sharktopus Attacks by chief, for probably creating the smallest D2C set ... As always, good job guys, there were so many nice entries it was really a hard choice, but it has to be done! Good luck all! -
The ship looks interesting, though not too star war-ish to me, but the glowing thingies are awesome!!

I just did a few weeks ago ... here.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. I like Star Wars the most and all historic themes (Pirates, Castle and Western), also like Fiction, but am not that much into town and train part of this forum. Also Bionicle and Technic I find too complicated, since I take Lego as a relaxing hobby and prefer the looks over functionality ...

Hello, I'm not so new, but never really took time to introduce myself. I'm from Slovenia, 27 years old, work as an IT and am stil trying to finish my studies. Besides LEGO I have a lot of time and money consuming hobbies like plastic modelling, computer games, inline hockey, skiing and so on ... So sadly you won't be seeing much of my work, but note, I always watch and admire the masterpieces on this forum. I like challanges, so I might enter some competitions, which are really great, but time is my problem. As an IT I spend a lot of it on computer, and when not, I prefer spending it beeing outside ...

Hi, I'm planning to order some sets in this may the fourth action ... And I have a question. If I use the link you mentioned it takes me to the US site of the shop. Does it matter if I then change the location to Germany or Austria? The thing is that they still have Mace's starfighter there. And second thing, I'm from Slovenia and these countries are closer to me. Or does the free shipping on purchase over $75 go to any country worldwide even from US? And also in the US stores the prizes are a bit cheaper than the € ones, so I really wonder where to order from, what are the conditions and what are the benefits?
