Train sets aren't actually all that common. Unlike City mainstays like Fire and Police that show every year, the cycle for train sets is (if I recall correctly) more like a four-year cycle. For the past few years the Trains subforum here on Eurobricks has had to rely a lot on discussion of trains from other themes like The Lone Ranger, Monster Fighters, and one-offs like the Horizon Express. Of course, Lego continues to sell the City train range for that whole period, unlike things like police cars that are replaced on a yearly or bi-yearly basis.

Once when I was fiddling around with extra parts from sets I came up with an interesting set of handlebars using the handcuffs. I put the... revolving part (I'm not a gun nut, clearly ) of two classic minifig revolvers into the cuffs. Since that part of the revolver is slightly smaller than a stud, it fits smoothly with minimal stress.

Hope it doesn't disappoint anyone (it might even excite some people), but the Robo-Emmet's "Piece of Resistance" looks almost like it could be Silver Metallic (aka the current Flat Silver on Bricklink), rather than light or dark gray. I think the enemy Octan spaceship is also pretty cute. I like the Octan Logo with a ring around it like a planet.

Maybe partly because it's not Reddish Brown, it's Dark Brown (a color shared by a grand total of zero constraction parts). It's still cool, but lacking other parts in the same color its usefulness is limited. I'm much more pleased with the Flame Yellowish Orange Savage Planet paws on the Lion vehicle.

Sand Purple doesn't exist anymore (and hasn't in years). It's probably the closest modern-day equivalent, Medium Lavender. Also, gray wings! Those'll be useful for statues and the like.

I dislike video reviews in general. They only rarely show you things that a good pictorial review will show, and the good content is often padded by so much chatter. I've seen a lot of complaints about a lack of research in The Brick Show reviews (for instance, pronouncing things wrong), but that afflicts pictorial reviews too. But a poor pictorial review can be skimmed, whereas a poor video review still takes 10 minutes or more to get through. However, my opinion of the Brick Show themselves (as a non-watcher) is positive, especially since I got some like-new sets they had opened and reviewed at Brickfair VA for a fantastic price.

The issue with releasing a lot of things from the show is that the optimal time to release many of them (the time when they were relevant in the show) has passed. For instance, the Serpentine mobile fortress would have made a great set, but the Serpentine haven't really been relevant in the story since then, so releasing it now would be a recipe for poor sales. The same applies to many of the unproduced Stone Warrior vehicles. I'd love a Borg Tower set, but since we don't know of any plans to release one it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Cuusoo could potentially provide an avenue for releasing these kinds of things, but even that would be highly dependent on whether such models would be able to sell well, and the long development period for Cuusoo proposals means that they too would struggle to be produced in time to capitalize on audience interest. I do think that there is a chance that minor characters from the show could be produced and sold, and it's a chance that could happen in the near future: the release of the planned Ninjago movie. A theatrical-length movie would offer plenty of chances for secondary-to-minor characters like Dareth, Mother Doomsday, Captain Soto, Misako, and the Mailman to show up, and The Lego Movie Minifigures series offers a precedent for using a minifigures wave to make those minor characters accessible to fans (alongside new costumes and the like for main characters like Nya, Wu, and the five Ninja).

As a kid, I loved Lego Technic, but I didn't care about accuracy that much. I cared that it worked like it was supposed to. And if it worked faster than a real one? I'd consider that better, not worse. Kids are concerned about accuracy to a certain degree, but the most important part is the "wow factor" and I think that loader has that in spades.

Does anyone know whether the Zane in the Battle for Ninjago City set is the damaged version or the undamaged version? I already have the Ninjacopter and would love for it to be the undamaged version so I wouldn't have to get Destructoid to get that one, but I fear they're more likely to use the damaged version since it's the one that appears in all the promo art for this year's sets... I'm thinking I'll pass on the Kai Fighter in favor of the X-1 Ninja Charger at this point; the latter just seems cooler and has everything the former offers (Kai, Techno Blade, Nindroids)

Personally, I'd prefer a science museum to an art museum. Brick-built dinosaur fossils and solar system models! There's also always the option of making a Lego retail store. I imagine the only reason they haven't done so yet is that the stores are still relatively scarce, but with more stores opening every year the business case for a large, detailed Lego store keeps getting better!

Probably because it's either a store exclusive or D2C set. We usually only get pics of those a month or so in advance, and they rarely get shown off at Toy Fair.

I actually just broke down and preordered it the other day. It won't feel like a downgrade for me; I haven't played any of the open-world ones and had plenty of fun with the "hub world" ones like Lego Batman. I'm sure the open-world ones are great (and I can't wait to play Lego City Undercover once I finally get a Wii U), but I think there's room for both, so as long as I can go back and play previous levels for fun and completion I'll be happy.

These are all great! So full of personality! I especially love Sand Cat and The Ship's Cat! My brother made a Robokitty before we even had Uni-Kitty herself!

It might not even have to be cut to length. A short flex tube (about 3 modules long, more or less) is used in the TMNT sets in that very color.

We haven't had a good hot-air balloon set since Adventurers, have we? I'd love to see one done with modern parts and techniques (particularly for a more rounded balloon).

Is that the one that will be in sets or the one they used for filming the movie? I can't tell. On the one hand, it looks as faded as an original classic spaceman might be (although that may just be the lighting). On the other hand, it seems to lack the dings and scratches that movie!Benny has, and the print looks like a stippled print instead of a print with realistic wear.

I don't mind the crowbar instead of a cane. The Riddler isn't enough of an A-list villain to deserve a new mold that won't ever be able to be used for anyone else. But I DO think they should have done it in gold since his return in 2012. The gold helps to subvert the initial mental association with a crowbar, and if they had never given him the red one more fans would probably be thinking "NPU!" instead of criticizing it for not being the right shape.

Okay, yesterday I saw a new Lego Movie TV spot while watching My Little Pony. I don't remember how it went but I do know it featured Uni-Kitty's line "Any idea is a good idea, except the not happy ones!". I can't seem to find this commercial anywhere online though! Has anyone here seen it? Can anyone track down a link?

So tonight's episode of Suburgatory (an American sitcom) featured Bionicle prominently. Lisa (who always played second fiddle to her adopted jock older brother, now in college) was upset when her parents adopted Vincent, a little Asian boy who claimed to love [American] Football, on a whim. She had a feeling Vincent was lying to get her parents to like him, and when she went through his room she found that stuffed in his trunk was the 2010 Takanuva set. She recognized him (having been a massive Bionicle fan herself) and got Vincent to come clean, but it turned out her parents loved hearing Vincent talk about Bionicle even though they had never cared when Lisa was into it, setting up a sibling rivalry between Lisa and Vincent. I think Suburgatory has referenced Lisa being a Bionicle fan before, but I don't remember it ever being this prominent. Vincent even started explaining the part of the 2008 story where Takanuva got part of his light drained by the Shadow Leeches.

Bumping threads for no reason whatsoever isn't really something that's done at Eurobricks. It's not the most stringent as far as rules about thread revival are concerned (if there's truly something new to add, revived threads are just fine). But you've just been spamming in old reviews and posting your own "reviews" that aren't really reviews at all. Is it any surprise members are finding it a little hard to take you seriously?

The movie is essentially about the fight between President Business (who requires all his underlings to follow the instructions exactly, representing conformity) and the Master Builders (who reassemble the ordinary models of Bricksburg and beyond into zany vehicles and weapons to fight back, representing the classic Lego spirit of unbridled creativity). However, from what I've read it's not necessarily putting one form of building above the other; rather, President Business's fault isn't that he follows the instructions or makes models that make sense so much as that he micromanages the lives of his citizens and makes them all do things his way. It seems that the moral is that you should do things your own way, and that there's more than one right way to build. I don't think the sets look at all like they made sets from "random" pieces. There's a clear emphasis on rebuilding, so you have sets such as a helicopter made almost exclusively of windmill parts or a robot made primarily out of fire truck parts. There's also elements that reinforce the fact that, yes, these are Lego toys. Lord Business' ultimate weapon is the Kragle, a worn away tube of KRAZY GLUE, and Vitruvius's magical staff is really just a chewed-up lollipop. Lord Business' forces represent conformity, either in the form of the robotic sci-fi Super Secret Police or the boxy, jet-black Micro-Manager robots. Other characters include Uni-Kitty (whose candy-colored domain of Cloud Cuckoo Land adds a bit of a feminine angle as well as a feeling of pure whimsy), MetalBeard (a pirate who rebuilt himself into a mech when he was killed by Lord Business' forces), and of course Benny the Spaceman (from the Classic Space sets of old, with a broken helmet like so many figs of that era). All in all, you can't look at this theme or the movie itself with the serious lens you'd look at Lord of the Rings or Super Heroes or Star Wars or even City with. It's not trying to recreate a singular subject so much as it's trying to capture the Lego experience as a whole, which means humor and whimsy and creativity and fun.

I thought of two more that would be nice: a boomerang and a more reasonably-sized bug-catching net.

I think a more likely reason for the lack of an open world is that the world presented in The Lego Movie is vast (with oceans, deserts, etc.) and that unlike past Lego video games, everything is going to made of Lego. I can imagine that'd make modeling a complete open world for the game quite difficult.
