  1. We don't know any of the combi models apart from the ones that involve putting the Protectors' weapons on the Toa. But that's not to say there won't be any. We'll just have to wait and see.
  2. To clarify—when I mentioned "the parts they're missing not affecting the look" I meant the new, not available in any sets parts. Some of their other missing parts and substitutions SIGNIFICANTLY affect the look—specifically, the way that the spikes attached to his neck are attached wrong. In the set, those fit OVER the chest armor and make for a really cool look. In the review, since they're placed farther back, they have to stick off to the sides to even fit on. That changes up the look a lot—enough that someone who's on the fence about his unique build might easily think that it's a poor fit when in fact, built correctly, it fits together quite cleanly and elegantly. Forgive my earlier rudeness, but the YouTube-ization of the Bionicle community has not, from my perspective, been a positive force. More and more I find myself having to clear up misconceptions STARTED by TTV which are then circulated by fans who take their word as gospel. So needless to say I don't think much of error-prone "reviews" like this (or similarly, speculation-driven news stories) which mainly serve to "scoop" sites like BZPower by putting promptness before accuracy, and leave a mess of misconceptions for other fans and websites to have to clean up.
  3. He'll look even better when he's built correctly. TTV could've easily Bricklinked some of the missing parts, since they have almost all of the new ones (and the ones they're missing don't really affect the look). But no, gotta jump the gun if you want those views and the sweet, sweet ad revenue that comes with them.
  4. Looking at AntiMatter all I can think is "Wow, I sure hope those axe blade pieces will show up as part of the weapons for minifigs in the new Bionicle theme." Seriously, this year's Hero Factory has spoiled me and now I REALLY want Bionicle figs that are just as good. And those weapon pieces look perfect for new Lewa's axes. :P
  5. You shouldn't need to resort to such measures for the arms to hold a pose. The official sets mostly just use eight-tooth gears and friction pins to provide the requisite amount of friction (Onua uses a ball joint with through hole and ball cup since his hammer arm needs to support more weight). Your version of the gearbox also doesn't connect in the same places as the new one, really, meaning it wouldn't make a very good substitute if you wanted to try and recreate the builds of sets or design builds which could be retrofitted with the new gearbox. Did you see my Flickr gallery?
  6. The bugs have been fixed! Can't wait for someone to post a file of all the new parts!
  7. The function on the heads is strong enough to work for knocking the mask off cleanly but is certainly not strong enough to function as any sort of launcher (especially for Skull Spiders, which thanks to their legs are significantly heavier than most masks). I've done a brief review of the gearbox on my Flickr but not any of the other parts.
  8. They didn't do set design wrong. If anything, Greg wrote the story wrong, insisting that they were mostly organic when clearly they weren't. The sets, as always, came first, and if the story is inconsistent with it then that's the part at fault.
  9. I fully expect they could. But I'm not about to test it to find out.
  10. Almost forgot to post this here. I have a Flickr gallery of pics of the new gearbox, including a fairly generic configuration for it to demonstrate how it works. Front Back Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Full Gallery
  11. In which configuration? It can be used as a warhammer or split apart into two large claws.
  12. Duplo can be a great solution for internal structures of large MOCs but isn't reliably cheap if you're getting the parts individually off of Bricklink. What you want to do is search eBay or local yard sales for used Duplo. Folks unload it for cheap even more frequently than regular Lego (understandably, since kids outgrow it), and if it's used for an unseen internal structure then things like part color don't matter.
  13. Kopaka's leg shells have never been printed either.
  14. They do exactly that. It's slightly odd when the mask is off (perhaps someone could figure out a part to wedge in and prevent that movement), but that is an intentional design decision—the eyes function as a lever that knocks the masks off if it's hit. It's basically designed to recreate the original 2001 mask function without the connection being so flimsy or perceived as a quality defect by buyers. The patterns on Kopaka's legs and Onua's chest are stickers. Everything else is printed.
  15. I don't think we're likely to ever see a set like those parts buckets again. Those weren't just made as a treat for Bionicle fans—they were made because sets like the Rahkshi and Vahki had been overproduced and they needed to get rid of the overstock parts. Since then Lego has done a lot to eliminate that sort of waste, so the chances of a lovely CCBS bucket in our future are quite slim unless the new Bionicle is an abysmal failure.
  16. Nope, I'm pretty sure it's Glow White (Lego's current glow-in-the-dark color).
  17. Usually it's good to just trust your gut. A lot of the same sorts of rules about which Lego parts are more expensive apply to Duplo as well, so you'll generally get a better value out of a set with mostly small, basic bricks than one with specially designed parts or characters. Bigger sets with more parts generally have more value relative to their size than smaller ones with fewer parts. And finally, the non-brick content of the set factors into the price too, so a set which features a board book or comes in special packaging will typically get you fewer bricks for your buck, although the non-brick contents have their own value—it's nice to have a book that can inspire your kid or a nice sturdy box to put everything away in when playtime is over.
  18. It's not that I don't like the croc or even don't like the idea of printed eyes. I just didn't particularly like of the eye design itself. And actually, upon closer inspection, it looks perfectly fine. The reflection on one of the pics made it look like the eyes had whites, which would be a bit TOO much detail for my liking, but a second look made me realize that that was just a trick of the light and the yellow irises and brow/lid were the extent of the printing. With that in mind, it looks much better.
  19. The old crocodiles were some of the blockiest animal molds that hadn't yet been updated. The new one's contours are more in line with newer animals like the new horses, dogs or sharks. I'm not sold on the printed eyes, which lack the simplicity of the old indented eyes or even the printed eyes of typical minifigures. But otherwise these new crocs seem to be a welcome improvement.
  20. Luckily it seems like we'll see plenty of that torso in Bionicle next year.
  21. If the top two rotors do spin in opposite directions then I don't think it should need a tail rotor. Tail rotors are mostly needed for helicopters with only a single propeller to my knowledge.
  22. "Dispenser" more likely than not simply refers to the cardboard display shelves in the original leak.
  23. At the very least, the Toa masks will provide one alternate mask option for each of the Protectors. Maybe we'll see more in the future. I still think it would've been neat if each Protector set had featured a bonus recolor of one of the Toa masks, as a substitute for mask packs. But I can see how that might be a logistical nightmare... As a final note, I wonder if the Protectors having a different mask from all the Toa is meant to finally provide visual representation for powerless Matoran masks? The idea that Great and Noble Kanohi had distinct appearances but that Matoran masks could look like any type of mask always seemed confusing to me. Maybe the Protector masks are meant to represent powerless Kanohi. If that's the case, of course, it'd still be nice if they were different from one another... but again, I can see why distinct masks for small sets like we had in 2008 might not be economically viable.
  24. Frankly, I feel the Invasion From Below sets were a heck of a lot better than the Stars as a send-off for the theme. IFB gave us iconic minifigure versions of the majority of the Heroes, so that even once the theme is done fans can continue to use the Heroes alongside their minifigures from other themes. Perhaps it's just The Lego Movie that makes me think this, but I've got a feeling that I'll be getting more use out of the mini-heroes after the theme's end than I ever did with my Bionicle figures after Bionicle ended. I wonder if we'll see minifig-scale Bionicle sets at any point in the next few years? Seeing as the builds of the new Bionicle sets are so similar to those of HF, many of the mini-hero parts would work just as well for Toa minifigs. I'd love to be able to integrate both Furno and Tahu into future System displays, and the mini-hero build is so much better than the old Bionicle figs... I guess I can only hope.
