Thanks for those answers. The larger radii are certainly welcome. Sounds like outside use would be OK for RC (no rust from aluminum, probably using wooden sleepers to avoid UV issues with the plastic parts) but you might get some conductivity issues for rail powered systems. I guess for the complex stuff your stock can serve as a basis for scratch building. :classic:

[rant]This is not a slight problem with my order, it is an infringement of my rights as a global citizen.[/rant] :laugh&cry: At least that gives you a list of the part numbers you need to power it (amongst other things). :classic:

Thanks very much. Hopefully it's free shipping that is restricted to the US. Looking out a few more things for an order before I proceed to checkout and find out. Doh....you were right, I can add it to my cart but they won't ship it to Australia. (or any of the other power functions bits and pieces I was trying to order.) Thanks anyway. :classic:

Ditto. :-) These look great. What different radii will be available and will there be points and crossovers, particularly high speed points (smooth turnouts)? What sort of metal is it? Are they suitable for laying an outdoor track? :classic:

Could you please post a link. I couldn't find it when browsing. :classic:

Nice one, RK. Very jealous. I've just been checking the inventory and instructions to see if I can build one in different colours with parts I already have. I might just be able to do it. Feel like buying a few more and shipping to Australia? :classic:

I think it's the nozzle from a fuel hose with the string removed. Nice one, LT. :classic:

Well, I've got to admit I would have believed it if you'd said you bought the windows instead of painting them. Nice job. :classic:

LifeLites Releases Self-contained LULs
AussieJimbo replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Wow, very cool. I can imagine many applications beyond lightsabers too. Self contained street lights, traffic lights, headlights, signs, fireplaces, .... ..... Will they be allowed to sell this? The guy who made a powered railway switch solution using Lego parts received a "cease and desist". :classic: -
US price is $US 120. Australian price is $US 207 ($AU 200). The price gouging we have to put up with is an absolute joke. I'll have to wait for these to show up on Ebay or a non-Australian online store before I can consider buying it.

Nice one, mate. I've always been a fan of the Chinook. :classic:

I for one welcome our hot pink feline overlord........NOT! :classic: -
Getting pretty bored of this thread. For me hype creates suspicion not expectation. Why does the product need to be hyped, is that an indication it doesn't stand on it's own merits? If you've got a product to release, announce it and forget all the faffing about. :classic:

MOD: "Emerald Magellan" Presidential Rail Car 10194
AussieJimbo replied to AussieJimbo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks LGG. I wonder how much a genuine copy of the original newspaper is. The stickers were just plain sticky labels printed out on an inkjet printer. I found the images I needed on the net and just resized them to the Lego dimensions. LightningTiger put me on to the technique. He's found some glossy labels that I want to try out some time but the plain paper ones worked fine for this model. Glossy ones would probably be more durable. One tip, leave some extra on one side of the sticker and start peeling off the backing before you do the final cut or you'll struggle to separate the sticker from it's backing. :classic: Cheers LT12V. Roosevelt and particularly Truman used the car extensively so they needed some home comforts. What a great way to travel. :classic: -

MOC: Texas State Railroad Engine #400
AussieJimbo replied to SavaTheAggie's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Another masterpiece, Sava. You've got a great talent for capturing all the important details. Sounds like this loco had a colourful life. Very well done. :classic: -
The new billboards and shrubs look good on the curve coming into town. Would be nice to see some gum trees if you've got the bits to do them. :classic:

What a fantastic creation. So much excellent detail. Top tier. :classic: -
Look forward to judging your Lego crime, LT. ;-) I can understand your predicament though. I wouldn't want to pay $15 each for a few windows. Personally, I'd draw the line at custom detail painting, eg minfig torsos, dials, anything Lego applies painted details to. Haven't done this before but I'm considering it for the Maersk train. If I've viewed the pictures correctly it commits the other sin of stickers across gaps, particularly at the front. I'll look at scanning the sticker, turning it into a stencil and spray painting. What paint are you using? I'm guessing you did some research into ABS compatibility. :classic:

MOD: "Emerald Magellan" Presidential Rail Car 10194
AussieJimbo replied to AussieJimbo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks LT and L@go. Had to give the stickers a go. It was nice to find the original newspaper online so I could just shrink it down. Wouldn't look real flash with a clock and a computer screen. I'm really happy with the way the hula skirt worked out too. :classic: -
Before air travel was common, the President often travelled by rail in specially chartered Pullman observation cars. When America entered WWII, it was recognised that enhanced security was necessary and the "Ferdinand Magellan" presidential rail car was born. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Magellan_Railcar Modifications included armour plating, bullet proof glass and extended accomodations for the President and First Lady. It also had staff quarters, a kitchen, dining/conference room and an observation lounge. http://gcrm.org/magellan.aspx The rail car was initially built for President Roosevelt who used it often. President Eisenhower used it on occasion and President Reagan also made use of the preserved car in 1984 for a one day whistlestop tour of Ohio, long after it had been withdrawn from formal presidential duty in 1958. President Truman also made extensive use of the car during campaigning and the end platform was the site of the famous shot of the incorrect "Dewey Defeats Truman" headline in 1948, when Truman was in fact re-elected. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewey_Defeats_Truman With all that as inspiration I had to see what I could do within the limited space of an Emerald Night carriage. Of course there was no way to fit all the facilities of the real thing so I decided to do the conference room and the president's bedroom. I also wanted to capture that historic moment from Truman's successful campaign. Here's what I came up with, click images for larger versions: Those are inkwells/penholders and writing paper (probably should have angled those tiles). Jug of water and an orange in case the POTUS gets hungry during the night. Feedback and suggestions welcome. I hope you like it. :classic:
