  1. Nice compact layout LT, should work well for the train show. :classic:
  2. Wow, what a great station. I don't mind the studs. It makes for a translucent rather than a transparent roof which is fine. Top job. :classic:
  3. I saw one of them in DJs Woden (Canberra) at full price a few weeks ago and it was gone the next day. This is the only one I'd seen there in months. Perhaps this was the one that was listed on their computer but they couldn't find for me during an earlier sale several months ago. :classic:
  4. Oh well, we can only hope the popularity of the set changes that and a few make their way into a container. I thought I'd have to import the EN until I saw it on the shelf at DJs, then Myer got additional stock about 6 months later. :classic:
  5. Got a pretty good result from the minifigs. Duped the mad scientist (cool, especially that nice bi-colour flask piece), figure skater, hockey player (wow, Lego ice skates), geisha, artist and the punk rocker (nice guitar, mad hair). Missed the swordsman, the viking and the gnome fisherman. Thanks Target for releasing them during the sale. Any news on which Aussie retailer/s be getting the Maersk train? I only ever saw Emerald Nights at DJs or Myer but I may have missed it at smaller retailers. :classic:
  6. Checked Target's website, they said Tuggeranong was open until 7pm, got there at 6.20pm, closed. Plan B, across the border to Target at Queanbeyan where the shops are open until 9pm Thursdays. Giddyup, one almost full box of Series 4, like others it didn't scan properly but I got them for $3.92 (20% off). Picked up 19 *blush* Didn't have a cheat sheet but got plenty of different codes, fingers crossed for a set. Also bought the little creator truck for $23 and the space shuttle for $39. :woohoo: :classic:
  7. :headbang: So unlucky, can't be long now though. :classic:
  8. I picked up some transparent ink jet labels that I'm keen to try out (wish I could print in white ink, can any consumer printer do that?) and some plain paper ones. Couldn't find any photo/glossy paper ones at the local Office works. What brand/product code do you use, LT? :classic:
  9. Excellent work, Hoexbroe. You've created such an interesting scene with so many great details. Very well done. :classic:
  10. Thanks again for all the nice comments. Cheers mate. Yeah it looks nice alongside the station but I'm feeling the need for a cargo handling facility. Some cranes, somewhere to stack containers and transfer them to trucks, a warehouse and perhaps some industrial activity. Maybe a fuel depot and railway maintenance buildings can go in this area too. :classic:
  11. Just picked up the big and little rocket sets from DJ's in Woden (ACT), 20% off until tomorrow (I guess that means including tomorrow). :classic:
  12. Ah, I see. Nice one. :classic:
  13. How did you do the red lids of those white bottles, LT? :classic:
  14. I really like the way you are going about this. I'm sure the final model will be very impressive, can't wait to see it. :classic:
  15. Nice update, LT. You must be just about ready for the train show by now. :classic:
  16. I also correct the steering wheel location whenever building vehicles. :classic:
  17. Thanks everyone for your kind comments. The "Shell" colours just evolved. I started out simply replacing the maersk blue with yellow and doing everything else in the stock colours but it wasn't really gelling with the yellow side panels I had to use. I also had white windows instead of grey so decided to continue white along the top but I felt it needed a separator between the white and the yellow, red looked good so that was the scheme. I won't put Shell logos on it because then the question is "why is it pulling a container train?". I'd been meaning to try dual motors in my existing locos for a while and it just seemed natural to try it with this loco. I can't recommend it highly enough. I've been double heading trains for a while but struggling with traction on my current twisty, undulating layout. This loco is a powerhouse and performs much better on it's own than two of the 7939 locos in tandem. It's pulling a nice 12 car train (6 container wagons, 3 car transporters and 3 tanker wagons) at the moment with no dramas at all. It also drives nicely at low speed, though my slight grades mean I have to run it a little faster. I look forward to seeing your Norfolk Southern version. The more variations the better. Cheers mate. I'm still super keen for the genuine article too but I'm so stoked with my copy I'm happy to wait for now. I hope you can find the bits to make one too, it's worth the effort. :classic: I'm glad you like it. The container carriers are basically just extended version of the ones from 7939. I've got some other similar ones without the special triangular gird pieces. I think someone else posted some similar designs a bit earlier but I can't recall who it was. :classic:
  18. They've been posted in various threads but here they are again, pdfs from the Lego website: http://cache.lego.co...ons/4632677.pdf http://cache.lego.co...ons/4632672.pdf :classic:
  19. Fantastic station, mrts. Very well done. :classic:
  20. I'll have to wait a while before I pick up an official copy of this magnificent new set but in the mean time I've managed to scrape together all the pieces to do a faithful build of the loco in a nice yellow and white livery. I've fitted it with dual PF motors and I have to say I'm thrilled with the results. It's an excellent loco with great pulling power and traction. The online instructions from Lego made it all possible. Thanks Lego for this fantastic resource. http://cache.lego.co...ons/4632677.pdf http://cache.lego.co...ons/4632672.pdf Also invaluable was the bricklink inventory: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10219-1 I started looking through it a few days ago and found I had a good shot at doing the build with available pieces. My buying of multiples in the last couple of years has paid dividends with various pieces, eg. turntable bases from railway crossing hi-rails for fan bases on the top of the loco, yellow 1x2 cheese slopes from the same set and the Octan Tanker set, long flex tube lengths from extra Emerald Night sets. Other parts I had to shop for. I bought 4 x Atlantis Ocean Speeders and 2 x Clone Trooper battle packs to get the 18 droid arms I needed for the hand rails and the Space Police ship 5974 for the four 3x3 Technic discs for the fans. All in all I've barely had to compromise the design and have made more changes to accomodate the PF switch (to change 2nd motor direction) than due to parts limitations. Anyway, after many hours work I've now got a great new loco, the new pride of my goods locomotive fleet. Large Large Large Large Large
  21. Roger that. I need to find a few droid arms so I can finish off the hand rails and do a bit more tweaking. I've also got to see if I can find the bits to do the subfloor detail (the thing between the two bogies). For the moment I've just transplanted the pieces from under the yellow cargo train loco which actually looks fine but I'll see if I can find the parts to make it look as original as possible. Should have some shots up later today. :classic:
  22. Well after many, many hours of digging for parts and building I've finally got my very own yellow Maersk loco running around the tracks. Lego have really done a great job with this design. I used two PF motors and it makes for a really strong and well performing locomotive, certainly the new top performer in my fleet. I've got it pulling 12 Maersk style containers (6 wagons) through curves and grades with ease without any wheelspin and I'm sure it's capable of much more. I'll definitely have to buy several more motors to give the official version the same treatment when I can get my hands on it. Enjoy your trains everyone. :classic:
  23. Well I hope all you lucky purchasers have been enjoying your builds. I've made great progress on my alternate coloured loco but it's extremely time consuming hunting out all the pieces. Just got to build the extended bogies and do a bit more tidying up but I'm really happy with how it's looking so far. :classic:
  24. I'm also cautious about the potential wear of metal rails on plastic wheels and would interested in any information about this. A potential solution to this could be replacing the plastic wheels with metal ones which may have the added benefit of reduced friction. Any plans in this area? :classic:
  25. Nice one, Locutis. I've started work on my alternate livery loco using the instructions posted earlier and the bricklink inventory to track down parts from various sets I have already. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10219-1 :classic:
